The next morning the twins are woken by two large men, who then lead them down stairs. They're lead into a large dining hall with a stone fireplace and a large oak dining table. There's warmth coming from the fire that fills the room. Normally it'd make the place feel cozy, homely but mixed with the anxiety and tension it makes the room feel uncomfortable, unbearably hot, the heat creating a feeling of inescapability. The boys are pushed towards opposite seats and are forced down in to the chairs by the guards, they don't fight back as even Robbie can tell it'd be pointless, the men are armed for one thing, plus their twice the size of the two boys. Jason gives Robbie a quick panicked look, wondering the same thing as Robbie – what the hell's going on. Before Robbie can answer their dad walks in. Both boys immediately stiffen. Robbie's ready for the next fight and Jason's ready to defend himself. But instead of any conflict arising, their dad just simply takes his seat at the head of the table. Once he's sat down food begins to get laid out, there's pancakes, syrup, three types of cereal, bacon, eggs, and baps to go with them, there's perfectly toasted toast with marmalade, three types of jam and chocolate spread, and there's a big bowl full of fresh fruit. They also bring out jugs of orange juice, milk and coffee (although the coffees inside a kettle). Jason's mouth can't help but water at the sight but Robbie gives him a look that tells him not to try any of it. It makes sense to Jason as they don't know what their dads planning to do with the food, but having such an amazing meal set out in front of you makes it torture not being able to taste any of it. Their dad starts tucking in, going straight for the bacon and eggs, after a few seconds though he notices that both Jason and Robbie haven't moved. He motions towards the twins then at the food with a huge accusing finger, "both of you eat. Now," he tells them with a deep, threatening voice. Robbie reluctantly takes a slice of the toast, Jason does the same. Jason takes a bit but the toast tastes too dry in his mouth and he begins to choke, Robbie stands up instinctively, wanting to go help his twin but big, strong hands push him back down, forcing him to stick on the chair like glue. Their dad slowly makes his way over to the choking Jason and reaches over for the jug of water, pouring it into a glass and handing it over to his son. He puts it to his son's lips and Jason grabs onto it, drinking quickly to dislodge the toast. Once he's finished he has a couple more coughs then feels better. He looks up to his dad in shock, he had expected his dad to hit him or even just let him choke to death but instead his dad helped him. Even Robbie can't help but stare, mouth open but when his dad looks towards him he quickly bows his head. Jason however does not, and when his dad continues to look at him in his eyes he doesn't even flinch. His dads face quickly turns angry, noticing this, a rush of panic washes over Jason as he realises what he's done. "You think you can disrespect me like that? You bow your head when I look at you, you didn't even say thanks for saving you" his dad yells, getting closer and closer to his face, he then roughly grabs Jason's shoulder, putting so much pressure on his shoulder that there's a sickening pop, Jason screams in pain and Robbie struggles to get free of the strong hands forcing him down. Robbie calls out to Jason, cursing at his dad but it makes no difference to the sadly familiar scene about to unfold. "Your disrespect cannot go unpunished. You need to learn your lesson" their dad growls before throwing Jason to the ground, his dad then beings to kick and punch Jason who cuddles into himself, moving his good arm to protect his face and bringing his legs into himself to protect his body. After five minutes his dad moves to sit back down at the table, leaving a bruised and bloody Jason gasping for air on the floor. Robbie can't take his eyes off the sight of his brother. Feelings of anger and hatred towards his dad fill him, as well as the self-loathing thought that he was in the same room as Jason, just centimeters away and he couldn't protect him. Their dad begins tucking into his eggs, acting as though nothing's happened.
As the day draws on Sandy starts to wonder how late Jason and Robbie are getting back, whether she's going to have to cook them some dinner or lunch for them or if they're going to have takeout with their friends. She looks down at her phone again and sighs when there's no messages from them, she doesn't want to be the kind of mum that's constantly checking up on her kids, she's already raised three boys and knows at this age its best to give them space, independence. But she does expect them to keep in touch, let her no their plans so she's not left worrying about them. She texts both Jason and Robbie to give her a ring then goes upstairs to shower, confident that they'll text back soon.
After dinner the two guards take the boys back upstairs, throwing them back in their room roughly and closing the door behind them. Robbie runs to Jason's side, up close he can see the damaged cause by their fathers cruel, cold hands. There are bruises across his face, a large cut across his cheek, bleeding down his face. Robbie lifts the shirt of off Jason's torso gently, ignoring the weak groan coming out of his mouth as the movement aggravates his shoulder. Robbie's eyes open a little wider with the shock of Jason's damaged chest. It's a rainbow of colours, blues, purples, greens, yellows, and a burning red. Blood seeps from cuts caused simply by the brute force their dad had kicked and punched him. "Shit Jase" Robbie mumbles, gently putting the shirt back down on the barely conscious boy. Robbie's body begins to shake with anger, how dare their dad do this to Jason, how could Robbie of just sat there when this was happening only centimeters away. Robbie's Jason's older brother and he should've protected him. He'd failed Jason. He won't fail him again. With newly found courage and guilt weighing on him Robbie gets up from Jason's side, placing him in a more comfortable position, careful of his arm, before walking over to the door and opening it to reveal the two guards who'd thrown them both in there. Robbie scans them as they turn and spots what he's looking for, a glistening rectangle of plastic and metal sticking casually out of the left ones pocket. Smiling his cocky smile he raises his eyebrow at the one on the right, which immediately seems to anger him. Robbie chuckles cockily and both the men look at each other, anger building across their expressions. The left one, clearly the smarter one although Robbie doubts they have even a single brain cell between them, manages to reign in his short temper as his face twists into a serious mask.
"Kid, you'd get back in there if you know what's good for ya" he tells Robbie, motioning towards their room. Robbie looks behind him then turns back, chuckling cockily.
"Sure I will," Robbie chuckles again turning to the guy on the right, knowing that he'd have a better chance of angering him than the guy on the left. "What you got nothing to say princess, rather let clever clogs over here do all the talking" Robbie's smile widens as the guy on the right beings to turn red, "I mean I wasn't expecting much intelligence but I thought you'd at least be able to string a sentence together!" Robbie plasters on a mockingly shocked expression.
"That's it" the man on the right growls, stepping closer to Robbie and raising his fists. 'This is it' Robbie's thinks to himself, this is what he was hoping for – a distraction. Robbie looks towards the phone in the lefts pocket then back at the menacing brute coming towards him with his thick fists. Just as he brings his arm down to hit Robbie the man on the left blocks it, grabbing the gigantic wrist and turning himself so he's in-between Robbie and his friend, not realizing that in this position he's gotten his back to Robbie with his phone sticking out of his back pocket, directly in front of Robbie. Seizing his chance Robbie reaches his hand slowly and steadily down to the guy's pocket, Careful not to brush up against the guy's trousers Robbie takes his index and middle finger and grips onto the phone. Once he knows he's gotten good grip he pretends to stumble into the guy, pulling out the phone and sliding it into his jacket before picking himself off of the guy and regaining his footing.
"Sorry about tha-" Robbie begins but before he can finish the guy he just 'bumped into' turns around and roughly grabs his arm, tightening his grip until Robbie yelps, grinning he pushes Robbie back into the room.
"Lousy kid" he sneers at Robbie before slamming the door shut. Robbie rubs his throbbing arm grumbling. He pushes himself off the ground and moving himself over to Jason who's still slumped against the far wall. Robbie leans against the wall and slouches down next to Jason.
Jason lifts his head at the sudden presence, his mind is foggy, and the rooms dizzy. Every movement causes the constant throbbing in his head to explode with pain, and the sharp pain in his arm to increase dramatically. He knows he's concussed, heck he's suffered enough beatings from his dad to know what's wrong with him, and how to treat it without a hospital. With a concussion all he can do is wait, rest, just like with the bruises. Its his arm that he's worried about, he's pretty sure its dislocated but there's nothing he can do other than get Robbie to pop it back into his socket. The rest of I will heal; it'll just take time. Jason blinks away the blurriness and his eyes focus on Robbie concerned gaze. Jason can't help but smile, his brother's presence an instant comfort for him.
"You alright?" Robbie asks Jason, feeling his forehead to check for a temperature. "Your hot" Robbie tells him, removing his hand and looking his brother in the eye, "you need a hospital Jase," Robbie tells him, Jason replies with a shake of his head.
"I need you to sort out my arm" Jason tells Robbie, attempting to move in to a better position and cursing when this only causes more pain and black spots to dance in his vision.
"Jase!" Robbie's voice calls out as Jason slumps forward further. Jason takes deep breaths, gaining control of the pain and his vision, and then looks up to Robbie.
"Please Rob, its going to get worse unless you put it back into the socket" Jason's voice is even weaker and with a sickening feeling Robbie realises what Jason wants him to do. Steeling him self, Robbie maneuvers himself so he's got one hand on Jason's good shoulder and the other hovering over his bad one. Jason nods to Robbie, bracing himself for the pain. "Just do it" Jason mutters, weak voice filled with determination.
"Wait" Robbie tells him, moving round the room searching for something. Groaning Jason follows Robbie's movements, wishing for the pain to end. Finding a thick pencil Robbie comes and kneels back down next to Jason, putting the pencil into Jason's mouth he moves his hands back onto Jason's shoulders. "For the pain, I don't want you biting your tongue off" Robbie shrugs and then takes a deep breath, "ready?"
Jason nods in response, tensing up as he prepares for the onslaught of pain about to hit him. Closing his eyes and putting his trust in Robbie he waits.
Robbie rotates the arm until it's at the right angle, trying hard to ignore the weak groans coming from Jason. Once he's gotten it at the right angle he applies pressure, more and more until he hears a pop and Jason scream with pain. "I'm sorry Jase" Robbie struggles to keep his emotions in check. Jason's eyes are closed; his breathing deep and tiny groans of pain are escaping his mouth. Robbie gently lets go of Jason's arm and Jason quickly brings it towards his chest hugging it.
It takes a few minuets but Jason manages to get his breathing back under control and with it the pain. He opens his eyes and is meet by Robbie's concerned face leaning over him, Jason smiles weakly to show him that he's ok now but Robbie doesn't move. "You need a hospital" Robbie states, leaning backwards onto the wall, suddenly exhausted.
"How would we get there Robbie, we're trapped" Jason tells him, is voice still weak, but his breathing more normal.
Robbie hides the concern or how weak Jason looks and sounds with a prideful grin, reaching into his pocket he pulls out the phone. Jason looks at it with shock, eyes wide open, a stark change to the half shut position they were in before. "What the hell Robbie!" Jason raises his voice, a bit more strength behind it now e's got adrenaline pumping through him. Jason cant believe how stupid his twin can be, "What happens when they notice that the phone missing, what happens when dad finds out" Jason asks Robbie, who just shrugs in response.
"Honestly Jase I hadn't thought that far ahead, all I know is that we need to get out of here. Now" Robbie's voice is full of determination and protectiveness and Jason knows that he can't argue with Robbie. Robbie's stubborn on a good day, but when his brothers are on the line he will do what ever he can to keep them safe, especially if its Jason, Jason knows this, he knows this because he feels the exact same way about Robbie.
Having used up all his energy yelling at Robbie Jason doesn't have enough left to argue anymore, he's hot, he's covered in sweat both from the rising temperature and the pain, and all he wants to do is rest. Deciding its best to just agree with his twin he slouches down further against the wall. He struggles to keep his eyes open and decides that a little bit of sleep might do him some good, especially since Robbie's plan is bound to have consequences, consequences that Jason needs to be alert to deal with. "Wake me up in two hours" Jason tells Robbie as he falls further down the wall till his head is resting against the floor, "ask me some questions about what day it is" Jason mumbles as he drifts off in to unconsciousness.
Robbie looks down at a now sleeping Jason. He's positioned him self uncomfortably, his head still resting against the wall but the rest of his body on the floor. In that position he's going to wake up with a stiff and painful neck. Sighing Robbie takes off his Jacket, removing the phone and putting it next to him on the floor. He folds up the Jacket and lifts up Jason's head, placing the jacket underneath he then gently places Jason's head on to the jacket. Looking down at Jason resting on his new 'pillow' Robbie smiles, his brother looks so peaceful, the only signs of the beating he received is the cut on his cheek and the bruises on his cheek, forehead and eye. Even them though don't seem as bad without the pained look on his brother face. Robbie reaches down and grabs the phone; it's just a simple Nokia, no passcode lock or anything to protect it from hackers. Feeling hope well up Robbie types in their home number, bringing the phone up to his ear he feels that flame of hope distinguish as the automated voice tells him tat he's ran out of minuets. Mentally cursing the guard for using up all the minuet Robbie opens u the messages, typing in Joes number then texting him – Help, kidnapped by psycho dad, Jason's hurt. Come quick. – Wondering if that's enough he clicks send, wishing that he could give them more, like his dad's address for starts.
Waiting for a response seems endless, time goes by slow, each minuet feeling more like an hour. Robbie looks at the phone again, getting that same sinking feeling in his gut when theirs no message on there. He looks down at Jason next to him, his face turned from peaceful to one of discomfort and Robbie cant help but notice Jason shivering. Concern filing him again at the obvious climb in Jason's temperature, Robbie gets up and grabs the Spiderman duvet from their 'childhood' bed and brings it over to Jason, wrapping it round him. Jason immediately snuggles in to it, looking all the more comfortable, and shivering a lot less. Robbie smiles leaning back down next to his twin. No matter what his dad isn't going to get his hands on Jason ever again.
