CHAPTER 10: WHAT HAPPENED
The bells toll to signal the end of classes at Mitakahira Middle School. Along with other students, Mami just reached the first floor; walking to the exit. That boy… Mami thinks, Who is he, really? During the lunch period, Mami sat down with Sayaka and Madoka. Sayaka told her of their encounter with a silver-haired boy. Though Sayaka didn't go into many details regarding to the fight. What Sayaka says though contradicts with the actions the boy did when she met him yesterday.
Flashback
*RIKU'S THEME*
"Who are you?" Mami asks as a silver-haired boy turns around and looks at her in the face. They are in the middle of a park, dowsed under the rays of twilight.
He waves a hand to the side casually, "Oh, just someone that's passing by," he answers casually.
"What was that bright light?" referencing to the light she saw that drew her to this spot.
"Oh, nothing important," said the boy. He looks at Mami before bringing a hand to his chin. "This might sound weird, but are you a Magical Girl?" Mami's eyes widen. How can a boy know about Magical Girls? That question echoes in her head. The boy grins, making a sound of amusement. "From the looks of your expression, I guess I'm right."
"Again, who are-" Mami stops as she sees monsters appearing behind the boy. The monsters wear silver helmets with an antenna, blue tights with a symbol that looks like a black heart with a red outline along with a red 'X' going in the center of the heart, connecting to the red outline.
The boy turns his head around before sighing. "You guys are just as persistent as ever," He says as he turns towards the monsters. The boy raises his right arm over his head, at that moment a strange weapon appears from a burst of light. Before Mami can take in the details of the boy's weapon, he leaps towards the creatures with a slash. He lands behind the monsters, which immediately disappear and heart-shaped objects appear from their positions before floating up and disappearing.
"What were those things?" Mami asked with wide eyes. Witnessing the power of this boy; with one strike, he eliminated the monsters immediately.
The boy turns around, "Heartless. Creatures born from the darkness in people's hearts. They're the reason I travel a lot." Mami notices the details of the weapon the boy is wielding. A handguard, followed by a demonic wing as the blade. But near the tip of it, a small angel wing protrudes from it. But the entire shape of the weapon is what got her attention. She swore she saw something like it before. The weapon disappears from the boy's hand before she could think about it more. "It's my duty to stop them from hurting people."
"Is that why you're here?" Mami asks.
"Not really, I'm here to check up on a friend of mine."
"A friend?"Mami asks with a tilt of her head.
"Yeah. Someone I've known for a very long time," he said calmly before looking up to the sky, smiling. He looks back at the girl. "Anyways, I got to get going." The boy walks towards the girl. Mami notices the boy taking something from his pocket. "Here, you need this more than I do." The boy tosses something into the air as passes by Mami. The object stayed in the air for a few seconds before dropping into Mami's hands. Mami's eyes go wide, seeing the Grief Seed in front of her. She turns around but the boy is no longer there.
Mami walks through the doors of the school, heading towards the gate. Could it be that he's the same boy that attacked Sayaka and Kyoko? Hopefully they will tell me all the details in the meeting.
Meanwhile, Kairi is walking towards the gate herself. She still has to pass a few blocks before she gets there. "I wonder what's so important that Homura wants us to have a meeting at her place?" she says softly to herself. Earlier that morning, Mami told Kairi that Homura wished to have a meeting after school today. "I hope the others like my gifts," Kairi again speaking to herself. She just bought a bunch of Command Cards to hand out to the girls in order to help them.
"Keep talking to yourself and people think you're crazy." Kairi stops and looks towards an alley. Leaning on one of the walls is Kyoko. She walks out of the alley and up to Kairi. "So what have you done all day?"
"Nothing much," Kairi responds before the two head towards the gate.
"Hey, remember that boy I told you about?"
"Yeah?" Kairi looks at Kyoko.
"Well, me and Sayaka ran into him,"
"What happened?" she asked with a curious tone.
"Well, he just ran into us and next thing I know we fought against him," Kyoko eyes are closed as she said this. Little does she know, Kairi's face goes completely blank with a slight jaw drop. Kyoko looks at Kairi, who managed to turn her head the other way, facing towards the ground. "What's with you?"
"Oh…ah…well," Kairi stutters before looking back Kyoko with a smile, "Are you doing okay? I mean he didn't hurt you or anything?"
Kyoko makes a sound of amusement with a smirk, "He's the one that got hurt. After me and Sayaka finally got a jump on the guy, he completely gave up and gave us four Grief Seeds." She looks up to the sky curiously, "Then again I guess we didn't hit him too hard, since he just bounced all over the place when he left. Well, I guess we showed him how tough Magical Girls are."
"Right…" Kairi said nervously. She turns her head away from Kyoko, looking down as she brings a trembling fist in front of her face. I can't believe he did that! Kairi practically screamed in her head. I told him to check up on them, not fight them to work together! Kairi sighs as she puts her arm down just as Kyoko looks at her with curious eyes, "Well," Kairi looks back up to Kyoko "I'm just glad you and Sayaka are safe."
Kyoko smirks, "What did you expect? I hate to admit but me and Sayaka could be the best team." Kairi smiles in response to Kyoko's comment. The two girls soon arrive at the gates with Madoka, Mami, and Homura waiting next to the gate.
Kairi immediately notices someone is missing, "Where's Sayaka?" she asks.
"Now that you mention it…" Madoka says before looking around. It didn't take long for the bluenette to walk out. Kairi notices something is off about her; Sayaka's looking at the ground wearing a near emotionless expression. "Sayaka," Madoka calls out to the bluenette.
Sayaka snaps out of her thoughts before looking at the others. "Oh, hey guys," she says with a weak voice alongside a sad smile.
"Is everything okay?" Kairi asks with a curious tilt.
"It's, it's nothing," Sayaka says soflty as she slowly raise her hands in a defensive manner.
"Okay…" Kairi said, not buying Sayaka words.
"So…ah…well" Sayaka says as she looks to the side, "Are we doing this meeting?" she asks sheepishly.
Homura nods. "Follow me," she simply says. She leads the others away from the school.
Homura's Apartment (Thirty Minutes Later)
Kairi blinks with confusion, "Walpurgisnacht?" She blinks several more times, "What's that?" The girls sit on two semi-circle green couches with no backrests. On the left side, Mami is sitting on the middle of the couch. To her left is Sayaka and next to her is Kyoko. On the other side, from left to right, is Homura, Madoka and Kairi.
Mami looks at Kairi with a serious face, "It's an extremely powerful Witch that appears once every year. Since ordinary people can't see it, they all assume they were afflicted with some natural disaster, like earthquakes or tornados." Mami close her eyes, "But in truth it is the work of Walpurgisnacht, leaving populous cities to mere ruins with hardly any survivors."
"Wow… a Witch that can cause that much damage…" Kairi says softly. Is that it? Kairi thought. Is this Walpurgisnacht what I've been sensing since this morning?
Kyoko looks at the raven haired girl, "And you're completely sure it's going to show up here?"
Homura nods. "If we are to defeat Walpurgisnacht, we have to fight efficiently and cooperatively."
"Well," Mami starts out, "It's pretty much impossible to know when and where Walpurgisnacht will appear."
"It will come here. That much I can guarantee."
Nothing is said for a few seconds. Kairi leans back a bit, "If Homura says that Walpurgisnacht is going to show up here, I have no choice but to believe her." Kairi looks at Homura, "So what's the game plan?"
"Walpurgisnacht will appear here," Homura states as she points to a specific spot on a map of the city.
"Are you sure?" Kyoko asks.
Homura nods in response, "Our objective is to stop Walpurgisnacht from reaching the center of the city, no matter the cost. Until the time comes, I recommend we collect as many Grief Seeds as possible."
Kyoko makes a sound of amusement, "Sounds good enough to me. Besides if we can beat this Witch, then that guy doesn't stand a chance!" She added with a smirk.
"Speaking of that boy…" Homura said before looking at Kairi, "You wouldn't know anything about him do you?"
Kairi anticipated the question since Kyoko gave the very short version of the encounter. "Actually…" Kairi started out, all eyes on her. "I did ran into him last night as well," she says as she turns slightly to the side, scratching her cheek with one finger. "He actually saved me from a Witch I happened to run into."
"And…" Homura said with a harder gaze, seeing that Kairi is trying to hide something.
"Well, he finished it off with one strike, although I had already weakened it. Even then it still had a lot of fight left in it and I would have to use more of my magic in order to defeat it."
"With one strike?" Sayaka asked, eyes blinking, the talk of the boy got her attention.
"Yeah, I doubt I can beat him in a one on one match though," Kairi says sheepishly.
"I knew it," Sayaka said, clenching her fists, "He was holding back on us."
"Doesn't matter," Kyoko says nonchantly, "I doubt he can handle all of us at the same time, even with that bizarre sword of his."
"What did it look like?" Madoka asks curiously.
"It's like a demon's wing with an eye on it."
Mami looks at Kyoko with a curious glance, "If I may ask, how he summoned it?"
"Just raised his hand and poof, came out of a black cloud."
"A black cloud?" Mami said curiously.
"What something wrong with that?" Kyoko asks with a raised eyebrow.
"When I met him, his weapon came out of a beam of light and not to mention it had an angel wing near the tip." Mami said as she looks up, eyes closed as she recalls the details of her encounter.
"He fought you as well?" Kairi asked with a shocked expression.
"Not me, when I found him, these monsters appeared behind him, and he struck them down with one blow. And when he destroyed them, some lights appeared from where those monsters were before disappearing."
Sayaka's eyes widen, she recalls monsters that disappeared in the manner, "Um, did they have some sort of symbol on them?"
"Actually…" Mami started before taking a piece of paper and a pencil from her bag. After half a minute, she drew a simple heart with an 'X' through it. "Is it something like this?" she asks as she showed it to the girls.
Sayaka's eyes widen before looking at Kairi, "Hey, isn't that the same symbol that was on those monsters that you and Madoka fought?"
"What was that?" Homura instantly looked at Sayaka just as Kairi froze with a slight jaw drop. Sayaka realizing what she said covers her mouth. Homura turns to Kairi with a glare of killing intention, "Care to explain what she means?"
Kairi chuckles nervously, "I guess it would come out sooner or later." Homura's gaze hardens. "Don't get mad at me," she says with a defensive gesture with her hands, "But I've been teaching magic to Madoka." Homura eyes widen, pupils shrunk, interpreting that Kairi broke her end of the deal. Kairi realizes that she has to say something fast, "but I gave a few conditions for her in exchange for teaching her magic."
"And what are those conditions?" Homura said in a low growl. Her eyes boring deep into Kairi's."
Before Kairi can say anything, Madoka speaks up, "Well…" Now all eyes are on Madoka, "she made me make a promise," she said as she twiddles her thumbs.
#SIS PUELLA MAGICA#
"A promise?" Homura hissed.
Madoka nervously nods before looking at Homura, "I…" she trails off. She takes in a deep breath, regaining some of her composure. "I promised Kairi that I wouldn't make a contract with Kyubey." On that note everyone else's eyes slightly widen except for Kairi. Homura's eyes start to soften. Madoka looks at Kairi, "Did you make me make that promise because of what Kyubey does with their soul?"
Kairi nods. "I thought if I could teach you magic, then you have no need to make a contract with Kyubey," she explains before turning to the others. "I also didn't want any of you to know because I didn't want her to be forced to go on Witch hunts. On top of that, I didn't want Kyubey know about it. If he did," she looks back at the pinkette, "he could pressure you into making a contract."
"Is that all?" Homura asks with an impassive gaze.
Kairi sighs, "Well, now that Kyubey knows I guess there's no point of hiding it any longer."
"Hold on," Kyoko calls out. "When I told Kyubey about our duel, he said that you're not a normal Magical Girl. And I can see that considering that you use different kinds of magic. So what kind of Magical Girl are you?"
Kairi gives a soft smile, "The truth is…the power I received wasn't meant to defeat Witches." All eyes are focused on Kairi, Sayaka's and Madoka's slightly wider. "It is meant to defeat the black monsters that have been popping up lately."
Mami's eyes widen. She begins to see a connection but decides to refrain from speaking out. Instead she asks a question to help confirm her suspicion, "These monsters… are they called Heartless?" Kairi nods in response. Since she knows Mami had met Riku, she concludes that he told Mami about them.
"So what are these Heartless?" Kyoko asks.
Mami speaks up, "According to that boy, those creatures are born from the darkness in people's hearts."
"There's more to it than that," Kairi adds, catching the others' attention. "The Heartless are drawn to the darkness in people's hearts. They seek those hearts and take them away," Kairi looks down to the floor, "and the victims of the Heartless, become Heartless themselves." That bit of information sent a shock to the girls. "The power I was given, allows me to free the hearts that are trapped inside of Heartless. Once a heart is free, it is possible for the person that lost it to return."
"Then why are you here fighting Witches instead?" Kyoko had to ask, seeing that Kairi does not have a reason to fight them.
Kairi looks up, "I'm looking for something in this city. And I believe that if I hunt down Witches, I would be able to find it."
"What is it are you looking for?" Mami asks.
"To tell the truth, I honestly have no idea," Kairi says with a sheepish smile making the others, except Homura, look at her awkwardly. "But other than that, now that I know about Witches, I can't just turn a blind eye on them. So I decided. I'll stay here and help you fight against the Witches."
Madoka smiles, "I'm glad you decided to stay here and help."
"Thanks," Kairi says, "that means a lot."
"Wait a minute," Sayaka, who is looking down, says in a low voice, catching Kairi's attention. "You didn't make a contract with Kyubey, correct?"
"Correct."
"Was there a price to gain that power?"
"No, like I said, the power I have was given to me. Though, I guess being away from home can be considered a price."
"Then tell me…" Sayaka looks up with a hard gaze at Kairi, "Do you still have your soul?" Everyone's eyes are directed to Kairi. A look of pain can be seen on her eyes on the accusation. She closes them and nods in response. "I see…No wonder…" Sayaka mutters as everyone looks at Kairi in shock.
"I'm sorry that I didn't tell you that I'm not exactly a Magical Girl. It's just that…"
"No need to explain." Kyoko pipes in catching Kairi by surprise. "It's quite obvious that the reason you didn't want us to know about you is because you didn't want Kyubey to know." Kairi softly smiles before nodding; appreciating that at least someone understands her situation.
"Are we done here?" Sayaka asks bluntly. All eyes are drawn towards her. Since there is no immediate response, Sayaka stands up. "If so, I'm going home. I need to get ready," she says before she limply walks to the door.
Sayaka is halfway to the door when Kairi's eyes lit up, "Wait a second." Sayaka stops before looking at the Keyblade Wielder as she puts a hand in her pocket. A second later, she takes out a gold card. Kyoko's eyes slightly widen, knowing what it is. Kairi walks to Sayaka, offering the card to her, "Take it. I'm sure it will help you against Witches."
"Huh?" Sayaka responds in a daze.
"Just focus on it, and it will teach you a new technique," Kairi said with a smile.
"Whatever," Sayaka simply says after taking the card before she limps towards the door.
Kairi, knowing something is bothering Sayaka, looks at her with a pensive expression. She quickly walks to Madoka. "Can you keep an eye on her?" She whispers into her ear.
"What?" Madoka says in response.
"Just make sure that she's okay," Kairi whispered. Kairi takes a bunch of golden cards from her pocket and hands them over to Madoka. "These contain some spells that you would find useful. Just focus on them and the cards will do the rest." A second later, Madoka nods with a smile before she takes the cards and leave as well.
Mami's Appartment (Thirty minutes later)
Kairi and Mami walk into the latter's home. Mami has several envelopes in her hands, most likely bills. "I still can't believe that you are not a real Magical Girl." Mami says softly as she walks to the table.
"Sorry for keeping you in the dark," Kairi says as she closes the door. "But if Kyubey knows who I am, let's just say that things can get very complicated for me."
"Kairi," Mami says, her back facing towards Kairi.
"Yeah."
"That boy…" Mami says before she turns to Kairi, "He's a friend of yours, isn't he?"
Kairi makes a small gasp, eyes slightly widened. Kairi then sighs with a slight smile before looking at Mami, "That's right. How did you figure it out?"
"It was during that meeting when we were talking about the Heartless. I was confused how Kyoko described his sword and how it appeared. But when we were talking about the Heartless, things started to come together," she looks slightly towards the floor, " When I met that boy- I mean, your friend, I couldn't help but notice his weapon looked familiar for some reason. He also said that he came here to check on a friend," she looks back at Kairi with an understanding smile, "Considering that the two of you fight against those Heartless, with similarly shaped weapons, it wasn't really that hard to think that you two know each other."
"Why didn't you ask that in the meeting?"
"I have a feeling that you have been keeping all sorts of secrets from the rest of us. But I can tell you're a good person, and so you must have a reason to keep those secrets." Mami gives off a sheepish smile, "I also didn't want you to get interrogated by Kyoko and Sayaka."
"Oh, you mean the fight they had with him?" Mami nods. "Actually, that is partially my fault." Mami looks at her curiously, "I just asked him to check up on them." Kairi close her eyes tightly, bringing a fist in front of her face, "If I knew he was going to fight them, I wouldn't sent him in the first place," she says frustratingly. "Next time I see him, I'm going to tell him off big time!"
Mami slightly chuckles, making Kairi look up at her in confusion, "But he's really a good person, right."
Kairi gives a contented sigh before looking at Mami with a small smile, "He is." Kairi close her eyes, "One day, I would like to tell you everything. But for the time being, there are some things I still have to keep secret," she looks back at Mami. "I hope you understand."
Mami nods before going through the envelopes. Her eyes widen when she reached the last one. "Hey, Kairi."
"Yeah?"
"There's a letter here for you."
"Wait. For me?" Kairi asks.
Mami nods before walking to Kairi to hand the envelope. Kairi grabs it and looks at it on both sides. See notices the front only has her name. Kairi never told Riku where she's staying so she wondered who could have sent it to her. She opens the envelope, taking out the letter before unfolding. In just a second of reading it, her eyes widen. Mami notices Kairi's expression, "Is everything okay?"
Kairi looks at Mami with a sheepish smile, "Yeah, it's from someone I know." Kairi puts the letter in her pocket.
"Another friend?"
"Not exactly. But it's something you shouldn't be worried about."
Mami stares at her before giving a slight sigh with a smile, "How about I make dinner? Afterwards we'll go on a Witch hunt."
"Sounds good to me," Kairi says with a smile. Mami nods before heading to the kitchen. Kairi's expression then turns to worry before taking out the letter. Her eyes focused on what is written:
Congratulations. You passed our test.
As a reward, we shall tell you a secret.
In this world, light always falls into darkness.
Night once again rules over Mitakahira city. Kairi and Mami walking in a busy street. This time, Kairi is taking the lead. She already told Mami that she can sense Witches due to the darkness emanating from their very beings. So far, Kairi hasn't sensed anything out of the ordinary. Nothing is said between the two. Kairi is deep in her thoughts, thinking about the letter she received. There's no doubt who sent that letter. What I don't get is why they would bother with telling me this secret. It's almost as if…
"Kairi," Mami said, catching Kairi's attention.
"Yeah"
"Just curious, can you sense Walpurgisnacht?" Mami said a worried expression.
Kairi slightly nods, "Since this morning, the city itself felt different. Though it's very faint, I have no doubt that what I'm sensing is darkness. If I'm right, the feeling would probably be stronger tomorrow. In return Homura maybe right that Walpurgisnacht is coming here."
"Even if that's the case, I still hope it doesn't come here."
"If it does, then we'll knock that thing back to where it came from," Kairi said confidently.
Mami smiles, "For some reason, you truly inspire confidence in me."
"Just curious, has anyone ever defeated Walpurgisnacht?"
Mami shakes her head, "Unfortunately, no one has ever defeated it. And if they did, they may not have survived the battle."
"Don't you worry," Kairi says catching the blonde's attention. Kairi looks at her with a smile, "I'll make sure you and the others stay alive. After all, that's what friends do, right?" Mami nods with a smile. Kairi keeps her smile for a few seconds before her eyes suddenly widen slightly before she focuses on something to the left.
Mami has an idea of what's happening, "You sense a Witch?"
"Not sure, I have to get closer to find out it's a Witch and not just another Familiar," Kairi looks back at Mami, with a determined expression. Mami reflects the expression with a nod and the head off towards the direction of where the source is.
#Decretum#
The sky of the Witch's barrier appears to be made of crystal. The battleground is on a statue's arm extended forward. In the hand of the said arm, is a torch, where the red flame goes up cylindrically before sprouting into a glass model of a sun. Before the torch is a figure praying towards is. At the other side of the arm, Sayaka pants, as does Madoka, holding onto her staff. Snake-like appendages with different animal heads spring from the ground yards away from Sayaka. Sayaka charges in, slicing through the incoming creatures before sprinting to the Witch. After reaching the half-way point, ten of the Familiar's spring out, towering over the surrounded Magical Girl. Madoka raises her staff, casting a Thunder spell, dispatching them, allowing Sayaka to continue her dash. Sayaka reaches the Witch, stopping for a moment, her cutlass glows with a faint aura, before she leaps at the Witch, unleashing a fury of swift attacks. The aura still holds on the blade, as Sayaka swings it in heavy strokes. Sayaka yells out for one final cut, severely damaging the Witch.
Unexpectedly, a massive tree sprouts from the Witch's back, pushing Sayaka into the air before consuming her. "Sayaka," Madoka shouts as she launches three Fire spells consecutively. Though the explosions are well-made, the tree still stands. A second later, something slashes through the tree several times, destroying it and freeing Sayaka. Her savior, Kyoko, grabs the falling bluenette and lands next to Madoka, who uses a healing spell on Sayaka.
"Sheesh, what are you trying to prove?" Kyoko said with annoyance. At that time twenty more of the Familiars rise from the ground before diving onto them. Gunshot after gunshot is heard, taking out the Familiars one by one. Five managed to elude them and got close to the girls. A small light come from behind the girls before looping towards the center between them. The light transforms into a barrier, protecting them from the black 'snakes' before they get eliminated by the counterblast.
"Sorry we're late," Mami said as she and Kairi join the others.
"Madoka, are you okay?" Kairi asks and the girl weakly nods.
"Why are all of you here?" Sayaka asks in a low voice.
"We're here to help," Kairi proclaims.
"No need." Sayaka says as she crouches, "I can finish it off from here." Sayaka sprints forth. Only took her seconds to reach the Witch before cutting through, before more of the Familiars spring up and bite at her. Instead of wincing, she continues to stand. She begins to chuckle before it turns into mad laughter. "He's right," she says maniacally before bashing what is left of the Witch with her sword like a blunt weapon. "I really don't have to feel the pain. It's a lot easier when you know how to do it!"
The girls can only look on in astonishment. Tears start to well up in Madoka's eyes, "Stop…Please stop…" she softly begs.
The Witch starts to fade away as the barrier breaks down. However, Sayaka continues to bash into it. Sayaka stops as soon as the dead Witch disappears, leaving behind the Grief Seed on the top of a roofless building under construction. With a sadistic grin Sayaka picks it up before tossing it to Kyoko. "There, it's all yours."
"What's with you, you idiot?" Kyoko calls out.
"What do you mean?" Sayaka says before she walks towards them, using her magic to heal her wounds. She transorms back into her normal clothes when she reaches the others. She continues to walk towards the stairs.
"That was reckless of you," Mami scolds her. "If you took things slow, you could have defeated it without using so much of your magic."
"Who cares," Sayaka says as she continues her tread weakly. "There's nothing left for me now."
"Sayaka, wait up," Madoka says before following her.
Kairi looks at the bluenette, "I'll make sure those two get home," she said to Kyoko and Mami before following the shambling Magical Girl and her student. What happened to you Sayaka?
Riku's Log 9
Witches are truly creatures of darkness. But to be more precise, they are mutations of emotions. During my most recent victory against a Witch, I began to get an inkling of the nature of Witches. To make better sense of my thoughts, it is best to describe my experience in a place I hope I don't have to visit again, The Realm of Darkness.
From my experience, there is hardly anything there. The closest space to the Realm of Darkness from the Realm of Light I visited is the world the original Organization XIII resided. If one were to walk through those empty streets, they too will find emptiness. As recently discovered, Nobodies have the ability to grow new hearts. However the ones truly in charge of the Organization led the oblivious members a false path in hopes of using them to fulfill Master Xehanort's intentions. But I'm getting off track, the point is in that world, there is nothing to be found.
It is such a place that Heartless roam, free of anyone's command. Even the most powerful Nobody is powerless to control these creatures. Though they can summon them, the summoning of one Heartless would draw in thousands. The Heartless act upon instinct; drawn to the darkness in people's hearts. But if they are already in a place where darkness rules much like the realm of their origin, no doubt they will drag anyone, even their so called 'masters' into its depths.
The same can be said of the barriers created by the Witches. Unlike the Realm of Darkness, there is a certain sense they give off. Though each barrier, as well as the Witch behind it, gives a unique vibe, the power of darkness still reigns. These barriers can be described as miniature pockets of the Realm of Darkness that exist in this world. Kairi explained to me that another one of our enemies tried to use Heartless, but they turned against him. If the Witches are the source of these pocket-sized Realms of Darkness, then the Heartless would perhaps protect the Witch in order to protect their new home.
Until now, I could not discern the unique vibe each one is giving off. But based on new information I acquired from Kairi, along with my working theory, I am positive what it is that I'm truly sensing. As I mentioned before, Witches are mutations of emotions. In other words each barrier is filled with emotions belonging to the Witch. Emotions tied to darkness range from sadness to sorrow to rage. Based on my experience, many of the Witches gave off atmospheres filled with regrets and sorrow. I have a feeling that these emotions are a key ingredient to a Witch's birth.
On another note, there is one that thing that confused me. Based on how long Witches have existed, I find surprising in the lack of veterans. To rephrase my statement, of all the Magical Girls I ran into; not one I found to be older than me. Why are there no Magical Girls at the age of adulthood to pass on their knowledge to younger ones? Do they lose their power at adulthood? If I were to follow my theory to the letter, I probably have found my answer to these questions. There's a high probability that those that form the contract with Kyubey and become Magical Girls have no chance of reaching adulthood. They have either died or met a fate that makes death seem like a form of sanctuary.
Author's Note: Here's the next chapter. Don't know when the next chapter will come up due to the amount of time I need to put into my education.
To answer a couple questions, the original Heartless from last chapter does not have a name.
Kairi's new design for this story is from something in my head, no images available.
I'd like to thank all of you for your reviews and taking your time to read this story.
From now on, I'm going to give small previews to the next chapter. The format will be key words and quotes related to the next chapter.
Until then, have a good day.
