"M-Mayu?" Dark eyes underneath drenched hair, Mayuri looks up at Rock Lee with both shock and lingering fear from the storm. Lee crouches down and moves her hair out of her eyes. "Mayu have you been crying?"
Momentarily calmed, Mayuri opens her mouth to respond when another crash of thunder has her jumping into Lee's arms out of instinct. Not really sure what to do, Lee gently puts a hand on her shoulder and is shocked to find her trembling. This is so unlike the Mayuri he's come to know, he isn't sure how to react…
"Mayu, let's get you home okay?" He waits for her to nod before helping her stand up. He picks her up bridal style and carries her through the village, her jumps and cringes at every clap of thunder and every bolt of lightning has him hurrying, Mayuri clutching at his neck the whole way. When he finally steps onto her porch he looks down at her. "Which room is yours?"
"….Th-third door on the right…. Past the kitchen…" Her voice shakes and Lee hears her hiccup, probably a side effect of her crying. He takes her inside and closes the door behind him before proceeding into the house, his usual respect for being somewhere other than his own home momentarily forgotten as he carries her to her room. He sets her down gently in a chair and she slowly detaches herself from him. "You need to take a bath or you'll catch cold. I'll go start the bath okay?"
She nods and points to a door adjacent to her room and Lee heads there, not even caring that he's totally soaked through and dripping water everywhere. He starts the hot water and adds some of the bubble bath sitting on the edge of the tub before going back to Mayu. She sits in the chair, not having moved even a little, shivering and jumping slightly at every sound of thunder. Lee moves her soaked hair out of her bright eyes and offers a smile. "Hey, the water's running. I added some bubble bath to help you relax. Why don't you go get in okay?"
She stands up slowly, as though she isn't sure that her legs will hold her up, and heads towards the bathroom, pausing at the door. She turns around and looks at him. "Promise you won't leave."
A little shocked at her request Lee just nods. Satisfied with his answer she closes the door and Lee drops into the already wet chair to wait for her to return.
Mayuri gets out of the bathtub thirty minutes later feeling much better and yet completely horrible because she was basically a complete nutcase in front of Lee. He probably thinks she's completely insane and will never want to train with her again. She wraps a fluffy towel around her body and another around her head before wiping off the mirror.
With a sigh Mayu looks down at her completely soaked outfit and rubs her temples slowly, a slight throb from all the crying she did. She heads towards the door and puts her hand on the knob, her plan to go into her room and get a fresh change of clothes, when she remembers Lee is out there. She stops and turns around, leaning her back against the door and taking a deep breath as she tries to decide how she's going to go about this.
She opens the door slightly, just enough to peek out. "Lee? Uhm… C-Could you go out into the hallway? I need clothes…"
When there is no answer Mayu grows bold and sticks her head out the door to look for him. The light from the bathroom illuminates the chair in the corner and Mayuri is surprised to find Lee fast asleep. She smiles a little and tiptoes out of the bathroom and to her dresser to grab pajamas before dashing back to the bathroom and closing the door.
She dresses and ties her hair into braided pigtails before going back into the bedroom. She gently wakes Lee, ushering him to her bed and tucking him in before going out to the living room with a blanket and pillow to crash for the night.
Lee wakes up in the morning and is at first confused. He doesn't recognize his surroundings and it takes a moment for him to remember the happenings of the night before. He bolts from the bed and quickly walks the halls of Mayu's house looking for her but he needn't have worried. Sleeping soundly on the couch, looking perfectly peaceful and content, is his Mayuri.
She holds a pillow captured between her arms and her braids are coming undone but over all she seems to be just fine. With obvious relief, Lee heads to the window to find the storm has gone and left the village thoroughly soaked. Judging by the light outside, he's over slept and Gai-sensei will be wondering where he is soon.
He walks back over to Mayuri and, for a moment, indulges himself in her image. She looks peaceful, as though the events of the previous night never happened, and a very slight curvature in the corner of her lip gives Lee the impression that she's dreaming something wonderful. He crouches beside her, being more selfish than he's ever allowed himself before, and moves her silver fringe out of her eyes. She stirs but doesn't waken, nuzzling into his hand almost in her slumber. A light blush colors his cheeks and he leans forward, placing a kiss on her forehead.
She stirs again and Lee quickly jumps back, for fear of being found out, and races out of the house, a broad smile on his face and a lightness in his step.
