Chapter nine:
Mello stands there for a moment watching the other. He sighs and finally decides to go over to Near. He stops once standing next to the other but he looks outside to the sky.
"Can't sleep Mello?" Near asks.
"Maybe." Mello mumbles as he begins to wonder what the Hell he is doing here.
"Mello…." Near speaks almost softly.
Mello's eyes flicker to him.
Near continues to watch outside. "If they didn't have a choice to become how they are….. Are they truly evil?" He says almost as if he is wondering out loud.
The question makes Mello pause and really think.
The elements of insanity didn't become this way because they one day woke up deciding to be killers after hopping out of bed. Their souls were forcefully combined with monsters that possessed them thus creating them different…. Evil…..
"Well." Mello begins and he glances back to outside as Near's eyes flicker to him. "They accepted themselves as now insane beings instead of fighting it." He points out. "I mean they went in as us but left as them as we were told."
Near turns back to look outside.
"So really I would consider them evil." Mello continues. "They could have fought but instead allowed themselves to go insane."
"True but what if they only snapped because of the evilness suddenly inside of them when they didn't want it?" Near questions. "I can't help but question if just getting rid of them is truly the right answer." He sighs so quietly Mello wonders if he even heard the sigh come from Near instead of someone sleeping. "Though I have a feeling we are going to have to face them pretty soon. Our showdown against them is drawing close. I can feel it." His eyes flicker down.
"So then we defeat them." Mello responds as his eyes flicker to Near just before he himself spoke. "It really is the best thing we can do for them. Perhaps like you said maybe they only snapped and accepted it because the sudden unwanted evil in them was too much and they knew they cannot escape it."
Near's eyes flicker to Mello as he speaks then he turns back to outside. He is silent.
"Don't overthink it." Mello says turning his back to the window one hand on his hip that is now the side facing Near. "They are enemies and we shouldn't just overthink it. If we overthought about such things we wouldn't be alive today. All we need to know is that they are evil no matter how you really look at it." He is about to walk away. "Just get some rest." He then walks away. He tries to push away the thoughts that he actually talked with Near as he heads to try to get some sleep using his willpower to not look back.
Near soon follows Mello's example and heads to try to get some sleep.
….
Brutalight looks up as he is sitting on the bed.
LawPerfidy comes into the room closing the door.
"So I take it that there is more to the answer of the charade they pulled when splitting into groups?" Brutalight asks his love.
LawPerfidy goes over and sits down next to Brutalight. "Well I didn't have much time to explain but yes." He says. "They are trying to get home as well as trying to defeat us."
Brutalight puts an arm around LawPerfidy. "They are fools if they think that they can defeat us." He says.
LawPerfidy smirks and nods. "Yes quite."
Brutalight smirks then leans in to kiss LawPerfidy.
….
It's the next day and the group thanks the elderly man before leaving.
Suddenly Mogi finds a not written in blood.
"Hold on guys." Mogi says.
The rest stop and turn to him as he takes the note off of the tree branch it was stuck onto.
The paper is yellow and the writing ink is confirmed as blood now that Mogi truly gets a look at it.
"All those not from this world. Follow the trail of papers dipped in blood to come to finish this showdown once and for all." Mogi reads it out loud. "No more cat and mouse games of hunting you down so let us get this show on the road. Come find us for your deaths."
The group glances around and notices the trail of yellow papers hung on tree branches and the bottom half is bloody with some dripping a drop of blood once or twice.
"We need to defeat the elements of insanity." Light says.
And so the group begins to follow the trail to find the elements of insanity.
Hearts pounding and breaths quickening as they know that this is it.
This is their time to finally face the most evil and most dangerous enemy they have ever faced before.
"No matter what happens in this fight we will give it our best." Light says in encouragement seeing most of them are looking anxious and a little scared.
The others nod and make sounds of agreement.
They follow the trail until finally they arrive to a clearing that the elements of insanity are waiting at along with RaiVicious and SilverSlayer.
The groups stand facing each other with a good amount of space but close enough that they won't have problems hearing each other.
Brutalight takes a step forward. "This is it." He says. "No running. Winner is the winner and losers lose more than this battle." He states in a tone that's obvious for no argument.
The ones behind Brutalight smirk evilly and insanely in agreement along with Brutalight.
"Prepare to die weaklings." Brutalight says with a slight hiss in his voice.
"We are capable and we will win!" Light counters with his head held high.
The ones behind him cheer in agreement.
"Bring it on." Brutalight challenges.
The ones behind him shit as if getting a little impatient to get this started.
The ones behind Light tense ready for the battle.
The air between the two groups is so suspenseful that if this was a movie there would be low dark music being played in the background.
The two groups take a few steps forward first the elements of insanity group then the other group.
It's time to battle!
Brutalight makes his sword appear then raises it to glance at the blade for a moment.
Those behind him look more than ready to charge.
Brutalight then points the sword at Light.
The group charges with Brutalight who shifts the sword to attack.
Light puts an arm out as if to say 'wait for it' then waits for the right moment. "Scatter."
The group scatters and the fight begins.
The elderly man watching from a safe distance. "That group is true idiots." He grumbles to himself.
A young adult girl comes up to beside him. Her chest bound by ace bandages with no shirt and dark purple pants with black boots. "Well they'll learn that the hard way. Some need to be taught it this way." She says.
The elderly man nods. "Yes." He turns. "I have seen enough death in my time." He says sounding quite old. "I should be getting some money." He begins to walk back to town.
The girl watches for a bit and begins to turn but can't help to look back. "Hopefully they all won't have to die for those idiots challenging the elements of insanity is an idiotic idea in the first place." She says to herself then she too heads for town.
Both of them not even bothering to watch the fight.
