The servant speaks into the control pad once more. "Keep them in hibernation until I say so." She presses a button.
She walks into the mansion and returns to the room with Kaito in it. He has returned to his human form.
"Kaito, what will I do with you?" She pauses. "I guess I will have to... do the sequence."
She drags Kaito into a chamber and sets him down on an examination table.
"By the decree of a fallen master, I activate the transfer of power emergency mode. With this I shall give up my life to become the new one!"
She types in a code on the control panel and becomes enveloped in a set of spectral codes. Her body shifts and changes, and the symbol "XX" forms on her left arm. The codes disappear and she is left standing in her new form. She looks at her reflection in a computer screen and smiles. She is the new master.
The master looks back at Kaito. "So, what will I do with you?"
She starts a vocal sequence, and Kaito's memories appear on the computer screen.
"You mean so much to these people. I cannot bear to set you apart once more." She thinks for a second. "However, in order to protect this world, I'm afraid I must."
Kaito wakes up. "Wha-"
The master says, "Please wait here."
Kaito looks at her. "Where are all the scientists?"
"Not here."
Kaito looks around. "Where am I? Where's my violin?"
The master looks at him. "I was not aware you had a violin."
"Well I did. Where am I?"
"I can't tell you."
Kaito becomes impatient. "Where am I?! Help! Somebody! PLEASE!"
"Hush child."
Kaito does not calm down. "NO!"
The master sighs, "Fine." She pulls out a syringe.
Kaito looks terrified. "No... Where am I? What are you going to do with me?" He is shaking.
The master speaks another command into the control pad. "Intensify gravity."
The table Kaito is on becomes restrictive.
Kaito is still shaking. "H-h... S-st-top..." The master inserts the syringe and Kaito becomes motionless.
The master sighs. "I'm sorry."
She strips him of his jacket and shirt, leaving his upper body exposed. She then examines his body. She looks at his left side. There is a scar right above his heart and a mark just below his shoulder.
"So they are linked..." She grabs a computer and a few wires. "Now to begin the process..."
She inserts a cable into the computer. From there, the cable attaches itself to a ray of smaller plugs and gizmos. One by one, she implants the gizmos all over the body. Once she has done so, she went back to her computer and began the coding work.
A small screen pops up that reads: Would you like to update the newest version of VOCALOID?
Hesitantly, the master clicks "yes."
Data floods from the computer into Kaito's human body.
Kaito's figure changes gradually. His hair becomes straighter as it turns a blue hue. His body is graced with a white coat and blue shirt. His once blue shorts become a pair of slim, brown slacks. The form change is topped with a headset of his own. Kaito opens his eyes. They shimmer with a cerulean shade, yet they are lifeless.
The master speaks. "Kaito V3, please stand for operation of the VOCALOID industry."
The wires connected to Kaito remove themselves as Kaito sits up. His expression is still lifeless.
The master continues, "Now, by order of recognition, please sing a song."
Kaito opens his mouth to sing. All notes from it come out crisp and clear, yet the song he sings is a sad melody. Kaito stops; he is confused.
"Why am I singing a sad song? It doesn't feel... right."
The master starts typing on her computer. "Let me check for you."
She types a bit more, then looks up. "Now, tell me what you know."
Kaito responds, "My name is Kaito. I am a VOCALOID of Crypton Future Media. I was made in order to produce music. My counterpart is Meiko, my fellow Crypton Future Media VOCALOID."
The master asks, "What do you feel inside?"
Kaito responds, "I feel... sad... I feel like there is something... missing."
She sighs. "You are in no condition to go out like this."
"Which condition?"
"I... don't know."
Kaito looks down. "Oh." A single tear falls down his face. "Wha- What is this for?"
The master looks at him. "Crying. What made you cry? Please tell me."
Kaito thinks. "Well, I had this thought..."
"Yes?"
He thinks harder. "Of somebody."
"And you is this person?"
Kaito looks off into space. "It was... a girl, I think."
He pauses. "We were... together. I think we were holding hands. Right?" He looks down at his hands and whispers, "Still feels warm."
Kaito rubs his chest, over his heart. "What is this feeling? Why is it," he points to his heart, "here?"
He keeps his hand over his heart and repeats, "Why..."
The master frowns a bit. "Please, tell me more about this... person." She thinks of something. "And hold this while you speak." She hands him a microphone that she connects to the computer.
Kaito takes the microphone. "Well... She was sweet. And scary in sorts. She was always there for me, I think. I think she told me that... She loved desserts, especially cake and pudding. She had a weird fetish for... celery? Broccoli? Or was it cabbage...?"
The master interrupts. "Leeks maybe?"
Kaito nods. "Right. She talked to me all the time. It was like she was programmed to speak forever, it seemed. She hated it when I wasn't around, I think. She told me something like that."
He thinks for a couple of seconds. "I remember her crying... She was so sad. She couldn't tell herself that... she... It wasn't her fault, I think. Yeah... She kept telling herself that. But I think I helped her... In some way."
The master nods. "I see. Do you remember her appearance? Do you remember how she looked like?"
Kaito closes his eyes to think. "Um... she had green hair? Blue, maybe. Teal? Eh... it's a bit fuzzy. She had a... gray uniform, I think. And a blue-ish tie? She had a skirt on that was a little bit short. And black boots, I believe. I remember one time that she wore a black lace dress that was very pretty. She was... crying when she wore that. There was a mask... and everything seemed to go by so fast."
The master says, "Please, don't think about that. Anything else? Her name maybe?"
"Her name... I... I think it's on the tip of my tongue. What is it...? Why won't it come back to me? Why..."
The master sighs once more. "That will be enough."
Kaito looks up. "Okay."
"Please, take off your shirt once again."
"Okay."
She takes out a stethoscope. "Stay still please. Keep thinking about that girl."
"Okay..."
She places the stethoscope over his heart. It beats fast, but at a steady rate. Then, she examines his stomach, arms, and chest.
"You seem to be functioning normally. You can put your shirt back on."
Kaito nods and follows the order.
The master continues to speak. "Now, I will send you home. Are you okay with this?"
"Yes. Where is my home?
"Don't worry about it. You'll find it. Goodbye, Kaito. Have a wonderful day."
He looks back. "You too... um..."
"Just call me Master."
"Okay. Thank you... Master..."
She waves. "Always a pleasure."
The master presses a button and Kaito vanishes to his home, asleep on his bed.
She speaks to the control pad again. "Please store and record data collected. Now record this message:
Kaito V3 is functioning normally. His form is well adept and nothing seems to be out of place. Most of his memories are lost. Yet, he remembers the one called Miku. Please adjust your information to this. He seems to have emotions the original did not start put with. We can put these under use and use them at a later time. Kaito V3 is working properly. Let him be at ease; he is a new vocaloid. Stand and copy"
The computer copies the message.
"Oh, Kaito. I wish you well in your journey."
