RWBY FANFICTION
Chapter 10
Authors Note: Hey Everyone! Sorry this took so long. Real life has been busy, etc. So I haven't had a lot of time to make a new chapter. But this one is worth the wait I assure you! I made sure to fill this chapter with lots of good stuff so please sit back, relax, and enjoy!
"I hope you boys understand that we have no intention of putting you in harm's way," Ozpin began. Team DLTC stood in Ozpin's office each of them standing at attention.
"I've already spoken to team RWBY about this, and they seemed all for the idea. You boys however, I suspect might have different ideas,"
Cheo stepped forward first.
"I'm ready to go out there and kick some Grimm ass. Just say the word Ozpin. I'm ready,"
"Understood Cheo,"
Tristen stepped forward next.
"Am I correct in assuming that you've already sent out scouts to make sure Roman doesn't actually blow the wall?" Tristen asked.
"You are correct. So far we've found nothing, but we're not finished yet," Ozpin stated calmly.
"In that case, I'm not willing to chance it, for the safety of everyone here, I'll go," Tristen said firmly.
Lorenzo stepped forward next.
"Fighting Grimm is what we're here to do. And we wouldn't be very good huntsmen if we didn't rise to the occasion now would we?" he said.
"Very true," Ozpin commented.
"And what about you Mr. Delta?"
Dylan stepped forward.
"… I'm not sure we should do this. Something about it seems… off," Dylan said cautiously. Ozpin stood up and walked over to the window in his office overlooking all of Vale.
"Seeing as you all have encountered him before I feel it is my duty to tell you all something," Ozpin said, sipping his coffee.
"Sigurd Alpha and the rest of his team have all defected from this school," The four of them were surprised by this.
"He's now currently working with unknown adversaries. But he's made it clear that he is now our enemy," Ozpin took another sip of his coffee.
"Given this information, it's likely that he is indeed working with Roman Torchwick, or someone else. Regardless, he may show up to try and fight you all again outside these walls," He sipped his coffee again.
"Outside of my protection,"
"…"
"…"
"…"
"I'll do it," Dylan said, breaking the silence. Ozpin turned and looked back at the four of them. Each of them had determination of some kind or another flowing through their bodies. It showed in their eyes, they were going to prove themselves.
"Very well," Ozpin said, moving back to his chair and sitting back down. The four of them turned and walked towards the elevator.
"If things get too bad out there, use your scrolls to call for help. We will evacuate you from the area if necessary," Ozpin said.
"Thank you sir, but I think we'll be okay with all due respect," Dylan said, before the elevator doors closed on them.
Ozpin turned back and looked outside, night would fall in a few hours.
Hopefully night would be the only thing to fall… nothing, or no one else.
Teams RWBY and DLTC all sat in a plane on its way out to a field clearing outside of vale. The time specified was almost there. They were ready, or as ready as they'd ever be. The plane touched down and landed smoothly. Both Teams readied their weapons and stepped outside. As soon as they all departed from the aircraft, it took off heading back for the walls of Vale. No Grimm were present in the area, the only other people there were Roman Torchwick, his sidekick Neo, and a surprising third party.
Sigurd.
"Welcome little kiddos! I'm sure you're all really excited for the big day I've got planned for you!" Roman said grandly. Neo saw Dylan again, but this time she didn't smile. She was actually a little conflicted. Dylan locked eyes with her and they both began to think the same thing. 'Do I have to fight them?' They both asked themselves.
Neo couldn't allow her emotions to get to her, she had a job to do. If Dylan got in the way, he'd pay. He was kind to her, and she'd repay that kindness in her own way. She'd repay it by fighting him, not killing him. If she even got to fight him. Cheo saw her too, and he was not so forgiving.
"Really Neo?" Cheo shouted at her.
"So you're working for the bad guys?" she didn't say a word. Instead she nodded her head and lifted her parasol, putting her signature smug look on her face. She spoke with her body, and right now her body was saying; 'Nothing Personal,'
Team DLTC all looked at Dylan with concerned looks, Dylan was not one to get mad at people easily. Even though she was an enemy, Dylan didn't want to fight her. So he wouldn't.
Ruby stepped forward and was about to say something, when Roman interrupted.
"Oh, and of course I didn't forget the big guy himself!" Roman said. Neo twirled her parasol and a wall of illusionary shards broke behind Roman and Sigurd. From the invisible box, out flew a giant creature, a familiar giant creature, the BeatleJuice. Ruby spoke to Dylan.
"Do you have a plan? My team can probably take down that flying thing," she said.
"Good idea, my team will focus on Roman, Neo, and Sigurd," Dylan responded. Ruby nodded at Dylan and the two of them walked back to their respective teams. Sigurd turned and whispered something to Roman, and Roman nodded at him. Sigurd turned and walked away from the group of people, all the while pointing at Dylan, then gesturing for him to come to him. Maybe it was the nerves of the battlefield getting to him, but Dylan wanted to follow. Sigurd got his hit in the first time they met, now it was his turn to get even.
Dylan walked over to Sigurd while Tristen and Lorenzo nodded at each other. Lorenzo pulled the lever on 'Highwind' and the spear tip opened up, revealing at barrel of a gun on the inside. Tristen aimed his shotgun and they both pulled the trigger at the same time. Roman, leapt over the shots and landed right in front of them. Tristen panicked while Lorenzo swung his spear at Roman, who quickly blocked the attack, and fired a Firework at the ground, blowing Lorenzo, Tristen, and himself in different directions. Cheo meanwhile focused entirely on Neo. He rushed up to her and swung EmberVine at her. She blocked the first few attacks with her parasol, then swung back, pressing the tip of her parasol into Cheo's chest, luckily his aura shield took what could've been a fatal blow. She stepped back in surprise, a purely defensive semblance would prove to be… difficult, but not impossible to defeat.
Meanwhile Team RWBY had their own problem to deal, their own very BIG problem. The BeatleJuice flew right over their heads. Ruby readied her sniper rifle while Weiss put an ice glyph around the barrel. She fired the ice bullets and they all hit the BeatleJuice's outer shell, but they quickly cracked off having no effect. The only one that had any staying power was the shell that hit the BeatleJuice's tail. The black and white Grimm had a large white sac on the end of its tail, and every hit only made it swell bigger. However, this seemed to work serious damage to its entire body.
"Focus on its tail everyone!" Ruby shouted to her teammates. The BeatleJuice flew back around and went into a dive bomb towards Team RWBY. They all jumped out of the way as it smashed into the ground and began to dig underground at massive speeds. Blake tossed her weapon at the creatures tail and I wrapped around it.
"Everyone grab on!" she shouted. Unfortunately, only Weiss managed to grab onto Blake before the creature pulled them into the hole in the ground. Ruby and Yang just stared at the hole in the ground, not knowing what to do next.
Meanwhile however, Dylan and Sigurd had an agenda to attend to. Sigurd turned around when he saw Dylan running up to him. Dylan jumped with his swords in both his hands, and was about to use an X-Scissor attack, but Sigurd just reached out and grabbed Dylan's torso, freezing him in place. Dylan struggled to get free but Sigurd just clenched his hand and the pain was enough to make Dylan drop Lapis Lazuli and his katana.
"Urgh! Let me go you psycho!" Dylan shouted.
"Enough!" Sigurd shouted. He loosened his grip on Dylan and threw him to the ground.
"You're the result of all that hard work? Pathetic!" he shouted.
"I tried my best to get strong," Dylan said, trying to catch his breath.
"Not you, you idiot! Do you even remember what I'm talking about?" Sigurd began.
Dylan stood up and ran and picked up his weapons. Sigurd stood above him, a full foot taller than him. Dylan turned Lapis Lazuli to its gun form and fired at Sigurd in a sudden surprise attack. The shots hurt Sigurd a little bit, causing him to flinch. Dylan jumped again, and this time he landed his katana in Sigurds right shoulder. Sigurd was outraged and screamed incredibly loud. He knocked Dylan off of him and pulled out the katana, throwing it to the ground. Dylan slowly got to his feet and Sigurd grabbed him by the head, and held him face to face.
"You don't even remember why you were made do you?" he asked Dylan.
"Made? … I don't… understand," Dylan said. Sigurd shrugged and tossed Dylan to the ground again.
"Then I'll explain it to you,"
Meanwhile, Cheo and Neo continued to fight. Cheo activated his flame thrower, but Neo just used her parasol to block the flames. Despite looking dainty and weak, the weapon could stand an enormous amount of damage. She charged at Cheo and thrust her parasol under his scythe, knocking the flames and barrel upward. Cheo being disarmed, stepped back while Neo unloaded a devastating amount of attacks on Cheo. His semblance absorbed every last blow, but because of how many attack he sustained, his aura was dropping into the red, and fast. He jumped at his scythe as it fell to the ground and grabbed it mid-air. He landed on the ground and swung his scythe around, knocking Neo back and away from him. He had a green color in his eyes now. He looked over at everyone else. Lorenzo and Tristen were fighting Roman, Team RWBY were fighting the BeatleJuice, and Dylan was fighting Sigurd. He could expect NO back up. So it was time for him to get serious. He reached into his back pocket and pulled out a red vial of dust crystals. He grabbed another vial of special green dust crystals, and mixed the two together quickly. While Neo re-coordinated herself from the last attack, Cheo placed the mixture into the barrel of his scythe. He loaded the chamber, and let loose the flamethrower.
The flames were easily five times bigger than they were previously. Cheo had mixed together a perfect blend of special dust crystals. Anything that caught on fire would disintegrate in green flames. Neo expected to be able to dodge all of the flames, unfortunately for her, the flames caught her white jacket and she had to quickly toss it away to avoid being consumed by fire. The flames from Cheo's barrel were only lit for about 15 seconds, but after it died down, all the grass from the field was completely burned out. Neo was angry now, she loved that jacket.
"So Dylan saves your life and this is how you repay him?" Cheo said to her. The words didn't reach her. Now she didn't care about anything, no one made her mad… EVER.
Roman blocked Lorenzo's thrust attacks and kept Tristen on his toes by constantly firing fireworks at him. Despite it being a two on one battle, Roman had much more experience and thusly, had the upper hand. Tristen stopped running and caught his breath while Lorenzo slammed his spear into Roman's Cane. The two stayed there, each pushing against each other, both trying to gain some ground against the other. Tristen collected his thoughts and thought of the perfect strategic move to help them win this battle. Tristen would use his semblance. Silently he began to float in the air, not flying, but instead no longer having any gravitational pull to earth, he was weightless. He pointed his shotgun behind him and fired an explosive round. This sent him soaring towards Roman, feet first. The impact of Tristen's feet on the cane was enough to knock Roman back on the ground. Lorenzo seized the opportunity and summoned a dozen wind spears, and threw them all down at Roman. They impacted the ground so fast that they kicked up a dust cloud. Out of the cloud came a single firework that hit Lorenzo in the chest. With his aura so low from the fight, he suffered a wound. He hunched over and coughed up some blood. Things were NOT looking good for him. When the dust settled, Roman was gone.
Cheo sliced at Neo, but she shattered into a million shards. He looked around and saw her, leading Roman back to a jet he saw coming in. Roman began to talk into his scroll.
"The mission's been successful so far. But I don't think we'll have time to pick up Sigurd,"
Cinder was on the other end of the call.
"Wait for him, you'll have time, I'm certain," she said before hanging up the call.
"Fine! You'd better hurry Sigurd," Roman said, looking over at Sigurd.
The ground began to shake as the BeatleJuice burrowed its way out of the ground, with Blake and Weiss in tow. Blake held onto the BeatleJuice as it flew into the sky, getting higher every second. It turned towards Vale and began to fly even faster. It had its target, and so did Team RWBY. Ruby fired several shots at the BeatleJuice, some hitting its tail, others missing. But it's tail had grown even bigger from the blows. Finally, Weiss thrusted her sword into the Grimm's tail, causing it to swell just a little bigger, until it exploded. Black blood gushed out of the tail, covering Weiss in the foul smelling liquid. But they had bigger problems. With the Grimm's tail busted open, it had died mid-air. Now the two of them were sent spiraling down to the ground. As they fell Blake and Weiss both quickly untangled themselves from the Grimm and Weiss used a gravity glyph to slow them down before hitting the ground. When they successfully landed, Ruby ran up to Weiss and hugged her.
"Good job out the-augh! What are you covered in?" Ruby shouted.
"Grimms blood," Weiss said with disgust.
"It smells revolting," Blake said, having a feline like nose, it was even worse for her.
"I guess you could say it made her, black and Weiss?" Yang said jokingly.
"…"
"…" Nobody? Just me? Okay," Yang said, somewhat defeated.
Meanwhile, while the others were wrapping things up on their ends. Dylan and Sigurd had their own problems to deal with.
"Let me explain something to you Dylan, you were a lab experiment," Sigurd began.
"In an attempt to create the perfect weapon to destroy the Grimm, they created a serum to use on people. They had hoped the serum would make the ultimate Grimm killers, but instead they made something far worse. Useless, fighters,"
"What?" Dylan asked.
"The serum they injected me with took away my ability to channel my aura. Of course they gave it to me at a young age, and the serum wasn't ready, so it made something far worse," he stretched his arm out and it began to change shape. It grew to a large size and grew black fur, until finally it was eight time it's normal size. His hand had turned into bear claws. No, Ursa claws.
He had become part Grimm.
"What… the hell!?" Dylan exclaimed in shock.
"The serum was in Alpha when they tried it on me. It allowed me to turn my body parts into Grimm parts. But it only worked on my arms. And what's worse is despite my physical strength going through the roof, I can't take many hits before I'm down for the count. I have no aura,"
Sigurd stepped forward and grabbed Dylan's arms, lifting him up to his face.
"That same serum was perfected over time, and during its experimentation process, was used on my team mates all when we were young children. They've all received weird side effects, but you… you were the one they got right. I'm sure you've been trained your whole life not to let your emotions get out of control. I even sent you that dream when you had a fever, to see if I could get you excited enough to trigger it in your sleep,"
"Dream? What dream?" Dylan asked.
"The one with Yang. Do you think she'd ever do something that risqué of her own accord? And you never thought about how she never found it awkward to talk with you after that? IT WASN'T REAL. I sent you that dream in the hopes that it would trigger you. Sadly it failed,"
"How did you send me a dream?" Dylan asked, now more angry for answers than before.
"Through my semblance. It took me a long time to unblock it, but when I did, I learned my semblance. Psychological Breaking and entering. I can mess with people's dreams right now, and can cause hallucinations. That Grimm you've been seeing around, that was all me,"
"Why are you telling me this?" Dylan asked, cringing in pain from the grip Sigurd held on him.
"Because," Sigurd pulled out a blue serum in a shot.
"I'm about to heal you of your curse, and give you new purpose. Glorious, destructive, new purpose," He stabbed the shot into Dylan's arm and let Dylan drop to the floor.
Suddenly, things began to change, Dylan couldn't see straight, and his was getting dizzy.
"When you were given the serum the first time, you were just a child, it blocked your semblance for the most part, and changed your body. You got horrible hand eye coordination, and clumsiness. The serum made you the opposite of a good fighter. But it's transformative properties were untested. You never turned into what you were supposed to. That changes today,"
Dylan could feel his body growing to larger sizes and he became unstable mentally, he could feel his fears forcing their way into his head. He could clearly see his teammates being attacked and killed, his worst nightmares being realized before his eyes. This drove him over the edge. Sigurd turned away and walked over the jet, meeting up with Roman and Neo.
"We're done here," Sigurd said. They all got into the jet and it took off, leaving the rest of them. Unfortunately, with Team RWBY and Cheo focusing on the escaping jet, and Tristen tending to Lorenzo's wound, no one saw Dylan transform into something. He grew in size, tearing his clothes off in the process, he grew big and hairy and black and white.
He turned into a Grimm. A Beowolf to be precise.
Cheo turned his attention to this new Grimm that had entered the scene and saw Dylan's torn up clothes and dropped swords. The only thing that could go through his mind was one thing; 'This thing ate Dylan,' Once again, Cheo had lost someone. He didn't know Dylan very well, but he seemed happy, full of life. This Grimm had, in his mind, slaughtered that life. Now it was going to pay for it.
Cheo swung his scythe and it slammed into Dylan's shoulder. It never even broke through the fur, just clanging onto his shoulder instead of cutting into it. Dylan's anger began to guide his decisions and he grabbed the scythe, he pulled the barrel away from the scythe and tore it in half. One half being a flamethrower machine, the other half being the scythe.
"What the… how the hell did it know to do that?" Cheo asked internally. Dylan, unable to control himself, grabbed a huge chunk of grass and dirt from the ground in front of him, and slammed it down on Cheo. Cheo's aura was gone, his semblance no longer useful. He had to think of a plan, something, ANYTHING. He wasn't going to die like this. Two shells hit Dylan's head and sent him into a rage. Both shots belonging To Ember Celica, Yang stood with her attention to Dylan. She pounded her fists together, and gestured for him to attack her. Cheo seized the moment of distraction and ran and grabbed his scythe. He turned around and threw it with all his strength and it lodged itself in Dylan's chest. This time it actually broke the skin and wounded him lightly. Dylan turned his attention back to the scythe, this time having a permanent solution to his problem. He grabbed the scythe, removing it from his chest, and crushed it in his hands. Cheo's jaw dropped. He now only had a flamethrower as a weapon.
Ruby shot three shells into Dylan's head, but they bounced off him, hurting and making him even angrier. Weiss readied her sword and Yang fired a few more shots at him. Meanwhile Blake was thinking of something else. Something wasn't right. Just seeing Dylan's torn up clothes lead her to believe something else aside from a Grimm eating him happened. There was no blood, and if all her novels taught her anything, it's that a crime scene didn't look like this. Something was wrong, and once the smell of Grimm blood left her nose, she knew exactly what it was. She could smell Dylan. Very clearly. It was all coming from that Grimm, it smelled different than normal but she was certain it was him. Then an idea came to her… what if that Grimm… was him?
Everyone readied their weapons to attack Dylan some more, but before they could, Blake stood in front of them and shouted; "STOP!"
Everyone, even Dylan himself, stopped what they were doing.
"I think this Grimm… is Dylan!"
"…"
"What?" Cheo shouted.
"I know it's a stretch but listen! I can smell Dylan's scent, and it's coming from this thing!"
"Cause it ATE him!" Cheo shouted.
"I don't smell him on its breath, I smell it on HIM," Team RWBY lowered their weapons in confusion. Cheo however, was not so easily dissuaded.
"Look!" She said turning to him and gesturing towards him.
"HE's not trying to hurt us! He only attacked us cause we attacked him!"
It was true, Dylan remained perfectly still, just staring at her. He began to slow his breathing and clamed himself down. Then he did something no one ever thought a Grimm could do, speak.
"H…"
"Help," he said, before collapsing to the ground. He slowly began to change his shape again. This time he shrank back down to normal human size. There he lay, naked as the day he was born, curled up in a ball; and breathing slowly, in a deep sleep. Tristen walked over to the scene, holding Lorenzo up and trying to keep him awake.
"What happened?" Tristen asked.
Ruby looked at both of them with a smile on her face.
"We won… for now,"
Cheo took of his jacket and wrapped it around Dylan and tried to wake him up.
"He's out cold, who knows when he'll wake up," Cheo said. Team RWBY gave team DLTC some space as they called for a jet to come pick them up. The jet landed and a medical crew came and took Dylan and Lorenzo in immediately for treatment. Meanwhile the others stepped onto a transport jet. They had won the battle, or at least, survived the battle for now. But they'd be back.
They all knew that somehow, today would be a sign of things to come.
Bad things to come.
