Hey everyone, I know I've been gone for MONTHS and I'm sorry. With finishing up high school and looking for a job plus getting ready to start collage I've been nothing but busy. Now I have some free time and hope to be able to write more. Anyways here's a new chapter for you so enjoy.
Riley looked over to his younger brother sitting in the passenger seat of his PT cruiser. He smiled and turned back to the road satisfied that Patton looked very excited. Patton watched out the window grinning ear to ear at the prospect of spending time with his brother. As the park came over the incline he looked to the older Drilvosky boy.
"Ry-ry we're here, this is gonna be so much fun." Riley parked the car and tussled his little brother's dark hair.
"It sure will baby boy." Grinning at each other the two brothers got out of the car. Riley grabbed the picnic and sports stuff from the back and followed his brother into the park. Patton was almost bouncing with excitement.
"Come on Ry-ry, hurry up I found a good spot to set up." Riley laughed and quickened his pace to Patton who was now standing under a large oak tree. The two set up their blanket and put down their things. Both sat on the blanket for a moment before Patton laid back and smiled.
"Hey Riley look at that cloud there." Looking up Riley couldn't see where Patton was pointing so he scooted over next to the younger boy and laid down next to him. Patton chuckled and pointed again.
"Right there Ry-ry, it looks like a T-Rex. See its little arms?" Looking up Riley saw the shape and laughed. It did look like a dinosaur, if only crudely so. Riley looked over to his brother and smiled at the gleeful expression on the younger boy's face.
"Do you want to play some games Patty?" Patton turned to his brother and smiled shaking his head. Patton moved closer to Riley and rested his head against the older boy's shoulder. Riley smiled and wrapped his arm around the smaller boy.
"In a little while Ry-ry right now I'm liking watching the clouds." Riley nodded and the two continued to watch the sky. The brothers looked at clouds for about fifteen minutes before a shadow covered the pair. Looking over Riley froze at the site of Chad Dickson looking down at them with a scowl.
"Chad? What the heck are you doing here?" The two sat up both looking confused at the teen in front of them.
"I'm the one that should be asking you that Drilvosky." Riley frowned at the other teen.
"What are you talking about Dickson I told you yesterday that I was spending the day with Patton. Now I'll ask you again; what are you doing here?" Chad looked confused at Riley's words and shifted his gaze to the smaller boy. Patton looked away and clutched onto Riley's t-shirt burying his face in his brother's side. Ever since Chad tried to send the KND moon base Patton has been a bit scared of him.
"I thought you were joking man. Why would you willingly hang out with this brat. I can imagine he'd been any fun. Just ditch the kid and come with me." Chad turned and started walking away. Riley scowled at the teen and wrapped his arm around Patton again pulling the boy closer to him.
"No way Chad." The younger teen looked back raising a brow.
"Excuse me? What did you just say?" The teen's tone seemed dangerous and Patton gulped and the threatening sound. Riley however looked Chad straight in the eye.
"I said no way Dickson. You wouldn't get what it's like to want to spend time with a younger sibling because you're an only child." Chad huffed at this.
"It doesn't matter. I've seen Cree and her sister so I can see that having a sibling would bite." Riley gritted his teeth at the teen.
"That isn't completely true Chad. Some siblings get along with each other. Patton and I get along great don't we bro?" Patton looked up at his brother who gave him a warm smile that made Patton smile to.
"Yeah we do. Ry-ry is the best big brother." Riley smiled wider pulling Patton into a tight hug. Patton huddled into the embrace. Chad watched the brothers in confusion for a moment before frowning.
"I can't believe how pathetic you are Drilvosky. Actually caring about your little brother and wanting to spend time with him goes against everything teens stand for." Riley rolled his eyes at the other teen and looked down at Patton who was still curled next to him.
"Seriously Chad I don't care what you think of me. I love my baby brother and I'll always spend time with him when I can. Plus since I'm not a member of the teen ninja thing you guys do I don't have any prejudice. If you've got a problem with that then that's all it is. Now if you don't mind I'd like to get back to our brother day." Chad huffed but walked away from the two. Riley looked down at his younger brother to see a sad look on his face.
"Hey what's up Patty? Did Chad get to you?" Patton nodded and sighed looking in the direction of the parking lot.
"I don't feel like being at the park anymore, can we go home?" Riley nodded and the two packed up their things and headed back to the car. Riley was angry that Chad had upset Patton and ruined their day at the park. He made a mental note to get back at the teen the next time he saw the guy.
Once they got home and put everything away Patton sat on the couch and hugged his knees to his chest looking disappointed. Riley watched his brother and became even angrier at Chad. Riley quickly sat down next to Patton.
"Hey Patty what's up? You feel like talking bro?" Patton looked at his brother and Riley's anger subsided at the small tears welling up in Patton's eyes.
"Why was Chad so mean to us? We didn't do anything wrong did we?" Riley sighed and patted the younger boy's head playfully.
"No Pat we didn't, guys like Chad don't get that some siblings actually can get along because like he said, he's only ever seen Cree and Abby interact. The two don't like each other very much so Chad only understands siblings fighting." Patton nodded and untucked from his ball now swinging his feet off the edge of the couch.
"So now what do you want to do? We still have all day." Riley thought for a moment and smiled standing up.
"How about we go up to my room and you can listen to me play guitar. I've been working on a new song I wanted you to hear." Patton grinned and nodded excitedly. The brothers went to Riley's room and Patton sat on the bed while Riley pulled out his guitar.
"You ready baby bro?" Patton nodded as Riley sat next to him and began to play. Patton loved listening to his brother play his guitar and sing because he was really good at both.
'When you look into the night and see no sign of any light who will you turn to when you're all alone?
You feel a hand reach out to you but you can't see what it belongs to but something in your heart tells you to trust.
You take the hand and it guides the way to a lighter place and a brand new day then finally you see the person that has been right there.
Your big brother is looking out for you.
He watches as you grow and always knows the ways to make you smile.
So when you're feeling down just remember.
Your big brother's watching over you.'
Riley sighed as he finished his song and Patton clapped happily. He laughed as Riley set down his guitar and grinned at his brother mischievously. Patton recognized the looked and jumped on Riley first tackling him onto the bed. The two laughed as they wrestled for a bit and finally flopped down on the bed out of breathe.
"Looks like today was pretty fun after all wasn't it Patty?" Patton looked over at his brother and smiled but just laid his head back down. Riley laughed reaching over to stoke the younger boy's hair. They spent the rest of the day relaxing and watching TV. Soon enough they heard the door open and shut.
"Boys we're back. We got some Chinese on the way home so I hope you two are hungry." The voice was their father so the two went into the kitchen. The family sat down for dinner and Riley told the story of their day. Mrs. D shook her head and sighed.
"Well it's too bad you boys didn't get to spend more time at the park. I just don't understand why Chad would want to spoil your day like that?" Both boys shrugged as they picked up their dishes and put them in the sink.
"Mom is my rainbow monkey out of the wash yet?" Mrs. D looked at her youngest and smiled sweetly as mothers do.
"Yes honey I got him out of the dryer this morning and put him on your bed. He should be waiting for you." Patton laughed and went upstairs to his room. Just like his mother said the dark green rainbow monkey sat on Patton's pillow. Patton smiled picking up the toy and hugging it tightly.
Patton loved his rainbow monkey because it was special to him. It had a cap and whistle and had an expression like he was giving orders. The monkey was a part of a special support our troops collection which had a different rainbow monkey for each branch of the military. The toy was a gift to Patton on his second birthday from his uncle. Ever since then he'd slept with it most nights when it wasn't in the wash.
"Patty you ready for your bath?" Patton nodded to his brother and set down the toy.
"You won't surprise me tonight will you?" Riley laughed and shook his head.
Not tonight I'm kinda tired. Think I'm going to go to bed early." Patton nodded and hugged his brother goodnight before heading into the bathroom.
Finally Patton got into his pajamas and said his prayers before curling up into his light summer blankets. Mr. & Mrs. Drilvosky said their goodnights to Patton before turning out the light and closing the door. Patton cuddled up with his monkey and fell quickly to sleep wondering what surprises the rest of the week would bring.
Okay everyone that was a long chapter. I hope you all liked it. I hope I can get more up soon. Anyways bye-bye. =).
