Chapter Nine:
"Hey, Kirby you alright?" Danny asked and she looked to him with a bright smile,
"Course I am, why?" her head tilted to the side as Erica was tugging Kirby's jacket in to cover her body,
"Because you're bleeding."
Kirby's face had paled suddenly a great deal, the thought of having to confront Lennox and what with everything going down bringing on a minor panic. Erica's brows furrowed as she saw the way Kirby's hand started shaking and she looked to Isaac in minor panic. They helped her out of the Library, the smaller blonde wrapped her black jacket around her waist, her shaking hand going up to her ear, but Erica took it,
"Kirby we have to take you somewhere safe," she asked, her chocolate brown eyes wide with worry, "Anywhere"
"I-Erm..." Kirby stuttered and shook her head. 'Focus Kirby. You just a quick re-stitch and then you can get on with it. Just-', finger to her ear, "How far?" she asked,
"We'll be outside in thirty seconds." Kate responded and the blonde's head bobbed as she took a step before her face winced, biting her bottom lip as the shooting pains from her side,
"Come on," Isaac swept her in his arms and she applied pressure to her side, her head flopped onto his shoulder as she focused on her breathing, "Are you going to be okay?" he asked and her head just bowed in confirmation, her jaw clenched tightly, what the hell is wrong with her body? Once minute it's agony and then the pain goes a bit and then vanishes when she see's Derek... is it him?
"There's the truck!" she heard Erica call out and the sound of tires breaking against tarmac,
"Is she okay?" Lennox was asking and she felt a light over her head,
"Her body is under a lot of stress, we need to get her home now." Amy-Lee confirmed for the group,
"Guys... Lydia." Kirby tried to push as her eyes flickered open and she motioned for Isaac to let her down. Once down, a hand was on her side,
"You should be sitting." Lennox scolded her and opened the door ready,
"They're safe Kirby," Kate confirmed and Kirby faced the elder, "Protected."
"We've gotta go..." Erica placed a hand on her friends shoulder, concern still on her features,
"Be careful guys. I mean it," Kate told the two as they made a quick dash. Kirby's jaw clenched and she took a deep breath, "Let's go. Lennox how are you with m-"
"I've done it before," Lennox confirmed and ushered Kirby in the car and got in herself, "I'm sorry about this dude..." she then whispered before a needle was stuck in the blondes neck.
"Ah, what-" and removed, "What the fuck guys!" before she saw darkness...
Her phone vibrating in her pocket was the first sound she could hear. Her eyes flickered open finding herself in her bed, next thing she heard was the sound of the girls talking with Stiles downstairs. Her brows furrowed a hand creeping to her side feeling a new bandage there. Pushing the duvet off she realized she was window side.
Carefully getting out of her bed, she noticed a clean shirt on the side table, a loose black V-neck t-shirt. With that on she looked outside to see the wolf pack staring at the house, yet Derek seemed to be on the phone. Her brows furrowed and he looked up to her, catching her eyes. Her phone.
"Hello?" she whispered, the phone pressed to her ear as she sat on the ledge,
"Are you okay?" he asked and all three beta's looked to him before she saw Erica look up to her room, brows knotted in concern,
"I'm... better- what are you doing?" she continued as she walked away from the window to her cupboard. Looking at her reflection in the mirror she noticed that she looked much better, but her eyes were on her bandage as she lifted her shirt and slowly peeled away at her bandage.
"Waiting." he stated.
"What's he doing on the phone? Amy?" she heard Kate downstairs,
"I don't know, I'm a bit busy right now!" Amy-Lee retorted and then silence,
"It's someone near... Huh... Lennox go check on Kirby to see if it worked." Kate ordered and then there were heels against the wooden surface making their way to her at a casual pace.
"Whoa..." she gasped see the wound looking ten times better, mild bruising, some redness, "Lennox is coming." and with that she hung up and slipped her phone in her pocket, as the door opened.
"You're up," The pinknette sighed and her eyes looked to what Kirby had been staring at and she shook her head, "It worked..." her voice barely a whisper
"What did you guys do?" Kirby carefully stuck the bandage back to the skin and let her T-shirt drop,
"Well... it was your father's idea actually," she began and Kirby noticed the way her hair was thrown into a messy bun, random strands falling out showing her stress, "We gave you your upped dosage of 'The Treatment' mixed in with the shit that caused you to pass out."
"Oh thanks!" Kirby rolled her eyes, her hands on her hips,
"Hey! Not my decision bitch, but you busted up my handy work and were loosing a lot of blood, in case you didn't know, it was dripping!" she crossed her arms, hip jutting to the side her face angry, "Fuck Kirby we could have lost you! We weren't sure what else we could do! So we called your dad."
"He's gonna come back..." Kirby whispered and Lennox shook her head,
"You're lucky he's not actually!" Lennox glared for a few seconds before she sighed and pulled her hair out the bun, "He had us inject a small number doses of the serum into the wound and it worked it seems."
"How long was I out for?" Kirby asked,
"A few hours... I'm shocked you're up to be honest," Lennox was running a hand through her hair, "But Kate spoke to Derek, he's waiting till we have an answer about Lydia..." Kirby's head bobbed, Kate got more of a response from him than she could, "and to know that you're alright." her blonde brows knotted together in concern,
"Wait what?" she asked and Lennox threw her hands in the air,
"I know right! Kate's right though, there's something off about him when it comes to you though babe. Bit of a creeper if I'm honest... A hot one, but still," Lennox shrugged and looked to her friend with a concerned expression, "Has... Kirby has anything happened between you and the Alpha?" she asked and Kirby's face scrunched up,
"Dude, I'm sixteen I really doubt I'm his type," Kirby retorted and Lennox arched a brow at her friend, scrutinizing her, "Babe, trust, this is me remember, also it's illegal in this state might I add."
"I know, but... I dunno..." Lennox shook her head, hand running through her bubblegum pink locks, "Something is telling me otherwise, if not just him with the wolves."
"What do you mean?" Kirby's head tilted in confusion,
"Well... I dunno, I'm getting this weird vibe from them when it comes to you. Isaac is a sweetie, Erica is a jealous one, and Derek... It's hard to tell babe..." she pulled her friend into a hug, "I can't help but worry." Kirby wrapped her arms around her best friend tightly and buried her head in her shoulder,
"It's what keeps us human Len." she muttered as the two pulled away,
"Let's hope they stay the good guys eh? We need some eye candy in this life." she winked taking Kirby's hand as they left her room so she could join the land of the awake. As they hit the stairs, they passed Jackson and Lydia.
"Are you okay?" Lydia pulled her into a hug and she gave her friend a comforting squeeze before pushing her back to look at her,
"Of course I am, I think it's flu so you might wanna be careful," she winked and Lydia slowly nodded, her eyes darting from the impatient Jackson to her, "I'm here if you need me," she smiled and pointing to her bedroom, "Talk in my room."
"Thank you." she smiled and the parted. Kirby was careful down the stairs, feeling a very mild strain on her stomach with each step, but compared to what it was like the night before, this was easy. As soon as she was downstairs, Scott, Stiles and even Allison were there checking if she was alright, Stiles had explained to them the full state of her injury he even looked a little pale.
"He was good to help me by being my slave when I re-stitched your wound." Lennox winked and she noted the way Stiles paled once again, Kirby's features dropped as she pulled him into a tight hug. Stiles was holding her firmly, yet delicately because of her side,
"Thank you so much, I'm sorry I worried you." she whispered and when they pulled away he smiled with a nod.
"Kirby, if you ever need help, we are here for you." Scott smiled and she nodded,
"Thank you Scott." she shared a smile with all three before the sound of Kate putting her tablet down in frustration caught her attention. Kirby turned sharply and made her way over to the table,
"What is he hiding from us?" Kate questioned and snuck a peak of the wolves outside, "What is he not saying...?"
"Any luck?" Kirby asked sneaking a look at Kate's tablet as she made her way over to Amy-Lee. Kate was researching more into Derek. Like the full background check.
"Some," Amy-Lee replied, still tapping away on the tablet, "I'm hacking into your fathers files because he won't let us see them."
"Will he find out?" Kirby asked and Amy paused to face her, arching a brow, "Try my mothers name." then the arched brow knotted with the other as she tapped away at the tablet, seconds later her brows flew to her hairline.
"Got it," she muttered in disbelief before she threw the file to the table where it all shot up as a 3D file of sorts. The group, including her school friends, surrounded the table as Amy opened up Lydia Martin's file, "Born... not long before you Kirby, Lydia was a healthy baby, near off perfect but her blood results were... perfect for trial. She was going to be enlisted as a potential..."
"Why does it say race unknown?" Kirby's voice was devoid of emotion as she scanned the document, Amy tapped away on her tablet before pausing, "Amy?" Kirby turned to her friend who sighed before handing the tablet to Kirby.
"You should read this..." she said and took a few steps back. Kirby's eyes scanned the profile, her fingers occasionally tapping at the screen before the tablet lowered a little, her steeled grey eyes busy with thought.
"State it." Kate commanded,
"Lydia's race is unknown because that is exactly that. She's not entirely human, but what that other part of her is unknown due to her rare blood type. Also, because my father was curious being that I was going to be born at some point, he got the parents signatures and put Lydia on a short course of the serum. Lydia's body accepted it and Father was hoping that with the serum they would be able to discover more about Lydia and what she is," Scott nudged Stiles, whose head slowly nodded, she sounded like a robot, "It only complicated the matter further. Therefore, she was taking off the course. When I we were two."
"Two years?" Kate queried and Kirby's head confirmed it with a sharp nod, the file being pushed onto the projector for Kate to read herself.
"Guys... One of the baby wolves are missing." Amy-Lee stated from the window and Kirby placed the tablet down walking round the table,
"Hang on Kirby, you're still recovering." Kate called out, but Kirby shook her head,
"I'm fine Kate," she looked to her boss who remained still for a split second before her head bobbed, "Allison, got a weapon?" the Brunette lifted her small cross bow, "Good, you may need it."
"Kirby you are not fighting when you've not long woken up," Lennox protested, "You've had extra doses of the Serum, who knows what's happening with your body right now."
"Right now Lydia is in potential danger and we have a Argent who is not fully trained, two humans and Beta here," she faced her pink headed friend whose hand slowly dropped at seeing Kirby's eyes, "The task was simple, Protect her. That's what we're doing."
"Kirby I think you should confront the Alpha with the evidence of Lydia being an innocent," Kate then suggested and Kirby's brows furrowed as she face the eldest hunter, "After all, he requested for us to tell him when you're awake and fine, and since you're the weakest of us it's best if you are the person to confront him." Kate's hardened stare had the boys squirm and it wasn't even in their direction, but Kirby just did as she was told, no emotion showing on her face as she made her way over and take the tablet from Amy-Lee before turning on her heel and heading for the door. She noticed Kate walk to the window, most probably to watch Derek for any micro-movements.
"Kirby, are you sure about this?" Stiles asked and the blonde nodded,
"Allison, Jackson and Lydia are in my room talking, best you go and see if she's alright." and with that she opened the door and left them alone. The door slowly closed and once it had Allison was running up the stairs.
Lennox turned to her boss "Kate something doesn't feel right." she explained and Kate looked to the Pinknette,
"Explain." was all she said before taking her eyes back to see as Derek made his way to Kirby, his eyes flickered to meet hers before back to the petit blonde,
"Well, with all this. It feels like we're walking into a trap and the Kanima isn't even the main problem." Lennox explained. Derek's face had been still the whole time, she wished the headset was still in Kirby's ear so she could hear what was going on...
"The Kanima is only a small fraction of the problem right now..." she stated watching as Kirby had the Tablet facing Derek so he could read the evidence himself. Nothing in his facial expressions. She couldn't even see his eyes properly thanks to the dark,
"So am I right? Kirby is in danger?" her question went unanswered as Stiles was thrown by her feet by Isaac and Lennox spun round to see him defending himself from Scott, "Oh it's on."
As soon as Kirby shut her front door she released a sigh, her head feeling fuzzy. She took a slow deep breath as she made her way over to Derek who was making his way to meet her half way on the lawn. 'She's watching' the small blonde mouthed and watched his eyes flicker away from hers.
When they met, she noticed that he was tense, hands in his pocket as he waited for her to start. She looked down at the tablet in front of her and her head slowly bobbed, the fuzziness slowly dissipating, "She'll be watching you incredibly carefully so you need to control every muscle in your face, if it helps, just stare at my shoulder," she gave him a weak smile and he nodded, but he looked her in the eye, "Lydia's one of us."
"You're sure?" he wasn't too bad, but he looked tense, hopefully Kate wouldn't see this, she nodded and handed the tablet to him, "It still says that she's something else."
"Yes, but not the Kanima, history states that the Kanima is an abomination of a shifter, because she still has had has the history of being on 'The Treatment' she can't become a shifter," she began and his head bobbed, but his eyes moved to look away from her eyes as his jaw clenched, "Because the injections started at a few weeks of her birth the serum works much like my own before I started the treatment. There are minor differences though, but overall, she's still one of us. The chances of her being a Kanima are impossible."
He gave her the tablet back and she saw the blood on the palm of his hands, her eyes widening but she refused to move, "How are you doing?" he asked and she chewed the inside of her cheek,
"Well, better when it comes to earlier to be honest, but..." she paused and her eyes flickered to see that only Boyd was standing there watching them now, "Where's Eri-"
"Doesn't matter." he cut her off and she took a step back, brow arching,
"Derek, it's not Lydia."
"I trust you."
"Then where's-" the door opened and Lennox walked out before throwing an unconscious Isaac off the porch and onto the grass, her lips pursed tightly. Scott had then walked out with a paralyzed Erica in his arms and did the same. Kirby wanted to flinch at the sound of Erica landing on the ground, but she didn't.
Kate walked out clapping her hands as if wiping dust off of them, "Derek... we had a deal." she chided and Lennox gripped the tablet,
"Just a little motivation, nothing wrong with that, it had been a while standing out here after all." there was an amused tone in his voice, but she could feel the frustration coming from his tense form behind her.
"Motivation?" Kate repeated, "And what motivation would that be? The threatening sort? We don't like to be threatened Derek."
"I don't particularly like being left in the dark." the sound of sirens in the far distance hit everyone's ears (Well, those with the hearing anyway), someone phoned the cops.
"We gave you what you wanted didn't we? There she is, proving everything you need. The girl is an innocent and Kirby's awake and fine." Kirby felt herself tense as she looked to her now open window. It was there.
"Jackson." she whispered watching as the creature crawled it's way along the roof. She noticed the way the group ran out onto the lawn to take a look themselves at the Kanima. She heard the sound of heels running along wooden floors upstairs and it confirmed that Jackson was the Kanima.
Jackson stopped what he was doing, turning to face them all, and made the noise that had her cover her ears and shy away from it. A noise filled with pain and warning. She felt Derek's hand on her elbow discreetly before she stood up watching it run off.
"Get them out of here." Derek ordered to Boyd behind her and she turned to face him,
"I'm coming with you." she stated and Derek shook his head, about to object when Lydia had made it outside,
"Would someone please tell me what the hell is going on?"
What do you think?
Will she be able to follow him? What do you think the effects of the fact that the treatments been upped? And what about the club? A little bit of Dancing with Danny? Maybe Derek...? What do you think will happen next episode? ;)
