Chapter 10-The Bulbasaurs and the Hidden Village
Ash and Matt wander aimlessly into the forest, without even a compass. That means trouble for the gang as Matt and Ash don't know where they are going.
"Everything will be okay" Ash said, "I'm positive that this way will take us to the path!" "That's what you said before" Matt remarked, "But look where that got us!" "It's not like your doing any better" Ash yelled. "Yes" Matt yelled, "I suggested that we stay on the main path, but you insisted that we take a shortcut!" "That wasn't even me" Ash yelled, "That was Misty!" "Don't blame this on me" Misty yelled, "I said we should stay on the main road too. It was your positive attitude that got us lost in the first place!" "Who says we're lost" Ash replied. "We all do" Misty yelled. "Guys chill" Brock said, "There's nothing to gain with all of this bickering!" "Brock is right" Matt said, "Let's just focus on getting to Vermillion City!" "Remind me to yell at Ash when we get there" Misty said.
"Let's take a break" Matt said, sitting on a rock. Everyone else did the same. "I don't know how we are going to make it to Vermillion City at this pace" Matt said. "Hey" Ash said, "Look at that Oddish drinking water!" The Oddish was only a few yards away. "I'll catch it" Matt said. "No" Misty yelled, "I'm going to catch! It's about time you two rookies see how it's really done!" "Ash, Brock" Matt said, "I think she's talking about you two!" "Why me" Ash said, "She could be talking about you and Brock!" "I'm not the rookie here" Matt said. "I'm talking about you two" Misty said, "Not Brock!" "Okay" Matt said, "You obviously have trouble determining who the best Trainer here is!" "Yeah" Misty said, "It's me!" She threw a Poke Ball. "Go Starmie" she yelled.
Starmie was released from the Poke Ball, blocking the path of the Oddish. Oddish just ran the other way. "Use Water Gun" Misty said. Starmie hit Oddish with Water Gun. "Now tackle it" Misty said. Starmie tackled the Oddish. The Oddish fell on the ground. Misty took a Poke Ball and threw it at Oddish, but it was deflected. "Huh" Misty said. There were two Bulbasaur's in the midst. "Bulbasaur" Matt yelled, "There are two! I'll catch one!"
One of the Bulbasaurs tackled Starmie and sent it flying. "Starmie" Misty yelled, running towards it, "Are you okay?"
"My turn" Matt said, "Come out Beedrill!" "Go Butterfree" Ash yelled. Matt released Beedrill and Ash released Butterfree. "Use Sleep Powder" Ash said. "Use Twineedle" Matt yelled.
One Bulbasaur blew the Sleep Powder back into Butterfree's face. Butterfreefell to the ground. "Oh no" Ash said, "Come on, hang in there!" Butterfree got back up, and was tackled by Bulbasaur.
Meanwhile, the other Bulbasaur had dodged Beedrill's attack and tackled Beedrill also. "This is an almost impossible catch" Matt said.
The Oddish and the Bulbasaur ran away. "Wait" Matt said, "I want to catch you!" "No fair" Ash said, "I want a Bulbasaur!"
The four were crossing a bridge. "I bet there are Bulbasaur all over this place" Ash said. "That's not likely" Matt said, "But where are we anyway?" Brock looked on the map. "I can't find this bridge on the map" Brock said.
Suddenly, a fierce wind blew. The ropes of the bridge began to snap. The screams of the four could be heard a mile away. One side of the bridge had tilted over. Ash and Matt were able to grab onto two of the ropes, and Misty was holding onto Ash's leg. Brock was holding onto the wooden boards. He slipped off. "Brock" Matt yelled. Brock fell into the water.
Ash, Matt, and Misty were able to make it to the other side of the bridge, but not Brock. "Come on" Misty said, "We have to find Brock!" "She's right" Matt said. The three ran on the side of the river, when Misty fell into a pit. "Help" she yelled. Matt and Ash pulled her up.
The three continued to look for Brock. "I don't think Brock went this far" Ash said. "We have to keep looking" Misty said, her foot hitting a trap wire. A net went over the three and they were suck. "Not another trap" Matt said. "Wiggle around" Misty said. "Why would we do that" Ash said. "Just do it" Matt yelled. The three tried wiggling, but it didn't work.
"Bulbasaur" a voice said. "It's Bulbasaur" Matt said. The Bulbasaur looked at them, and walked away. "Hey, get back here" Matt said, "Let me catch you!" Ash wiggled around. "You kicked me" Misty said. "Sorry" Ash said.
From the distance, in the bushes, Jessie of Team Rocket was looking through a pair of binoculars. With her, were James and Meowth. "I sure hope that the rumors of the village are true" Jessie said. "If so" Meowth said, "Team Rocket's got a surprise for them!"
"I wonder what happened to Brock" Ash said. "I do too" Misty said. "Maybe the river carried him all the way to the ocean" Ash said, "Then he got captured by pirates and one of them has a wooden leg!" "Well, that's some imagination you got Ash" Matt said. "Pika" Matt's Pikachu said. "Then came the storm" Ash said.
"Ahoy" a voice said below. Everyone looked down to see Brock. "Why are you all hanging around in that tree" Brock asked.
Brock cut the rope and everyone fell down with a thud. "Ow" Matt said. The Pikachu were dazed. "Thanks" Misty said, "Maybe next time you can lower us down a little more gently." "Sure" Brock said, "Sorry."
"Where were you" Matt asked. "Yeah" Misty said. "We saw you fall into the river" Ash said, "What happened then?"
"I was being washed away in the rapids" Brock said, "When a girl grabbed my arm and saved me! The girl was incredibly beautiful too!" "A beautiful girl huh" Ash said. "It makes a lot more sense than Ash's pirate story" Matt said. "Pika" Ash's Pikachu said. "Unless she was really a pirate in disguise" Ash said. "Maybe it's time for you to get a reality check" Misty said. Ash laughed.
Brock led them to the girl that saved them. "Melanie" Brock said, "This is Ash, Matt, and Misty." "Hello" Ash said. "So you're Brock's friends" Melanie said, "He told me all about you." "Great" Misty said. "Look at that" Matt said.
There was a Weepinbell, Caterpie, Oddish, Rattata, another Rattata, and a Paras, and they were all eating.
"Do they all belong to you" Matt asked. "Oh no" Melanie replied. "This is a place where Pokemon are able to rest and relax" Brock said, "When Pokemon get abandoned or injured, they can come here. Melanie takes care of them until they feel better. Then they leave." "So this is the Pokemon Center" Misty said, "And Melanie's the Pokemon doctor!" "Oh no" Melanie said, "I'm not qualified to become a Pokemon doctor!" "This is more like a Pokemon Health Spa" Brock said. "Here the Pokemon don't battle with one another" Melanie said, "Here they relax and try toenjoy themselves until they have recovered."
"Cool" Misty said. "Melanie collects plants to use for medicine" Brock said, "She knows all about which plants can make a Pokemon feel better or grow stronger when it's too weak." "You and Melanie both love to take care of Pokemon" Ash said. "We do" Brock replied.
Melanie was playing with a Paras and the other Pokemon were smiling.
"Well, it looks to me there's something else Brock might love" Misty said. Brock's face turned all red. Brock covered Misty's mouth. "Be quiet" he said, "She might hear you!"
"I wonder who put that net up in that tree" Ash said. "It was probably the same person who dug the hole I fell into" Misty said. "I'm sorry" Melanie said, "I was the one who set those traps. I wanted to catch Trainers before they made it to the village. Since you got caught, I guess they really work." "Why" Matt asked. "There are so many injured Pokemon here" Melanie said, "I have to protect them." "So the bridge was a trap too" Matt said. "Yes" Melanie replied.
Team Rocket was inching across the bridge, using the ropes. "Across the bridge is a lifetime's supply of Pokemon" Jessie said. "How will we carry the all" James asked. "Don't worry" Meowth said, "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it."
Suddenly, the ropes snapped, and Team Rocket slammed into the cliff and fell into the water. "Meowth" Meowth cried.
"I promised Melanie we wouldn't catch any Pokemon here" Brock said. "And did you seal the promise with a kiss" Misty teased, getting knocked in the head by an enraged Brock. "So that must mean you really do like her" Misty teased again, and got another hit in the head by Brock. "That just means we'll keep your promise" Matt said. "Only bad guys try to capture sick Pokemon" a recovering Misty said. "Are those traps tough enough to keep robbers from this place" Ash enquired, "I mean you'd have to be pretty stupid to fall into one of those holes." "Hey" Misty said.
Team Rocket fell into a hole in the ground. "This is the third hole we fell into" Jessie said, "How come nobody ever falls into our traps? We fall into theirs!" "Well this one was cleverly made" James said. "I''m glad you're enjoying this so much" Jessie snapped. "Meowth" Meowth said.
Team Rocket was able to get out of the hole, but walked right into another trap. The net caught them and now they were hanging from a tree. "Aaah" the three said. They struggled in the net. "Ouch my tail" Meowth said, "Stop pulling my tail!"
Brock was bathing a Staryu. He poured water onto it, and it shook it off. "Do you feel any better yet Staryu" Ash asked.
"I'm sorry about what happened in the forest" Misty said. "Oddish" the Oddish said. "I shouldn't have suprised you like that" Misty continued, "You must have been scared." Oddish nodded yes. "Melanie told me you're old Trainer got rid of you" Misty said, "Is that really because you were too weak?" The Oddish nodded yes. "You know" Misty said, "Some Trainers can be insensitive, but not all of us aremean like that." Misty rubbed the Oddish's head. "You just need to find a Trainer who understands you" Misty said, "Anyway, I'm sorry for what I did and I hope we can become friends." Misty was in tears. The Oddish wiped Misty's tear with its head. "Oddish" the Pokemon said. "You're sweet Oddish" Misty said, "I am sorry. I hope I'm not becoming heartless." Ash came over. "You're always heartless" Ash said. "Mind your own business" Misty yelled.
Bulbasaur came from behind and tackled her. "Hey" Misty said, "It's rude to tackle people!" "She's right" Matt said a few yards away. "You're just mad that I was going to beat you" Ash said, "But you just ran off." The other Bulbasaur walked over. Both had mean glares in their eyes. "That must be it" Misty said. "Let's see how tough you really are" Matt said. "Yeah" Ash agreed. "No wait" Melanie said, "Please don't! The Bulbasaur are trying to protect Oddish. They volunteered to guard our whole village." "Really" Matt said. "They are the bravest and most loyal Pokemon I know" Melanie said. "So that's why Bulbasaur attacked Misty" Matt said, "It must have thought she was taking Oddish from the village." "Bulbasaur" the two Bulbasaur said, pushing and Ash and Matt's legs. "Huh" Matt said. "The Bulbasaur don't like Pokemon Trainers" Melanie said, "He wants you to leave the village now." "But we're not here to capture Pokemon" Misty said, "We're here to help you." "It's okay" Melanie said, "These are our friends." The Bulbasaur kept pushing. "Bulbasaur is worried about the other Pokemon, so it decided to become the village bodyguard" Ash said, "Now that's what I call bravery! It would be great to have a Pokemon like that!"
Team Rocket came from the sky in a stadium. Standing on top, were Jessie, James and Meowth. "To protect the world from devastation" Jessie said. "To unite all peoples within our nation" James said. "To denounce the evils of truth and love" Jessie said. "To extend our reach to the stars above" James said. "Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light" Jessie said. "Surrender now, or prepare to fight" James said. "That's right" Meowth said. "We said our lines" Jessie said, "Time to attack the village." "They thought their measly traps would stop us" James said, "They thought they had the home advantage." "No such luck" Jessie said, "We're the home team now!" "I congratulate myself for this brilliant scheme" James said. "Don't forget" Meowth said, "I suggested tying balloons on the stadium roof!"
The stadium flew over the village, casting a huge shadow, and then landed. "Team Rocket" Matt said. "Let's cut to the chase" Meowth said. A vacuum came from the stadium and began sucking. "All Pokemon are invited to enter the stadium" Jessie said. "Step right up" James said. "Yeah" Meowth said, "We're not hosing ya! Well, maybe we are."
Ash grabbed the Staryu before it was sucked in. "They never run out of ideas, do they" Ash said. Brock opened the door. "Hurry" he said, "Everybody get in the cabin!" Melanie and a few Pokemon ran in.
Misty dropped Oddish. "Oh no" Misty said, "Oddish!" As the Oddish was about toget sucked up, Bulbasaur's vines grabbed it and pulled it back. "Take Staryu" Ash said, giving Staryu to Misty. Matt and Ash pushed the Bulbasaur. "Keep going" Ash said. Ash gave his Bulbasaur a boost, and so did Matt. Ash and Mat made it safely into the cabin.
"Those little pests" Jessie said, "They're always ruining our plans!" "Not this time" James said, "They have gatthered them all in one place for us." "Our super vacuum will suck 'em up" Meowth said. The vacuum went over the cabin and started sucking.
"Go Team Rocket" the three cheered with Asian fans. The Bulbasaur went to the roof and slapped the vacuum around. Ash and Matt stepped out.
"Pidgeotto" Ash said, "I choose you!" "Go Beedrill" Matt said. "Pidgeotto" Ash yelled, "Gust Attack!" Pidgeotto blew back the vacuum winds. "Twineedle" Matt said. Beedrill used Twineedle, tearing the vacuum in half. Pidgeotto kept using Gust. The whole stadium was caught and blown away.
"Is everyone feelign okay" Melanie asked. "I just got the wind knocked out of me" Ash said. "It's a good thing you've got these Bulbasaur here" Matt said. "Don't you think they would make great editions to your teams" Melanie asked, "I think they should go with you. They won't reach their full potential in the village." "What will happen to the village without them" Misty asked. "These Pokemon can't stay here forever and ever" Melanie said, "After they recover, Pokemon are supposed to leave. I think it's important that all of them return to the wild, and hopefully someday, they'll find good Trainers like you. Please take them, but you'll have to battle them first." "Okay" Matt said, "Ash and I against them" Matt said.
It was the two Pikachu against the two Bulbasaur. "Go" Matt and Ash said. The Bulbasaur used Vine Whip, but both Pikachu were able to dodge. Bulbasaur tackled Ash's Pikachu and sent it flying. Matt's Pikachu used Quick Attack, but missed. Bulbasaur used Vine Whip and hit Pikachu. "No" Matt said, "Pikachu, you got this!"
Ash's Pikachu landed back on the ground and tackled Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur got back up and used Vine Whip again. The whips wrapped around Ash's Pikachu and slammed it to the ground. Ash's Pikachu screamed.
Matt's Pikachu was busy dodging Vine Whip. Matt's Pikachu was able to tackle Bulbasaur.
Ash's Pikachu used Thunderbolt on Bulbasaur. Ash threw a Pokeball and caught Bulbasaur.
Matt's Pikachu used Quick Attack one more time, knocking Bulbasaur into the tree. Matt threw his PokeBall and caught Bulbasaur. "Yeah" Matt and Ash exclaimed. "I'll miss you Bulbasaur" Melanie said.
"Have a good trip" Melanie said. "We promise to take good care of the bUlbasaur" Matt said. "Melanie, I've been thinking" Brock said, "Since the Bulbasaur are leaving, I could stay here and help you out." "That's really nice of you to say" Melanie said, "But I wouldn't want to keep you from all of your adventures." "I guess you're right" Brock said. "Bye" the guys said. "Take care" Melanie yelled. Misty kept teasing Brock. "Argh" Brock said.
"We have got to have a Pokemon Battle" Ash said. "Soon" Matt said, "Soon." "Pika" both Pikachu said.
