I'm pretty sure I've apologized like three times in previous chapters, so this will be apology number four! I know I said I was going to update Wednesday but something came up, and I would not update on Thursday because that's sort of an unspoken rule for me. I apologize for the fluctuating update days, but it'll be back to Saturday OR Friday, since somebody (ME!) just got out for summer break :D
I'd like to thank the following great people for reviewing: Pinkgrande; fantasychild9; Heligadark; sofia8687; MikanHZ; Inugoma; NeneJPhilly; and last but not least, two guests!
Also a big thanks to those who followed or favorited my story! Really, you don't know how much happiness you guys bring me (and hopefully I return the happiness with my story : )
"That won't happen," Argent said, trying once again to comfort Jinx. "You and Kid Flash will be together forever. Except, you know, right now since he's a kid."
Jinx, who was still moping, shot her friend a quizzical look. "You didn't even remember we were sort of dating until I told you a few minutes ago—"she was cut off as Argent placed a hand over her mouth.
She shushed her pink haired friend. "I know these things, trust me." She said. "Or my name isn't A-r-j-i-n-t."
Jinx's groan could be heard through the Argent's hand. "That isn't how you spell your name Argent!" she said after removing the hand.
Argent frowned. "I'm five, what did you expect?"
"Thanks for trying to make me feel better, but it's not working. I'm sure I've ruined my relationship." Jinx said, swinging her legs off the side of her bed which was in one of the guest rooms of Titan's tower. She had been lying in bed almost all day.
"Don't be so hard on yourself," Argent said, attempting to come up with another excuse to cheer the girl up. "I'm sure you'll think of something to fix this. You're very…skilled?" Argent said, the last part coming out more like a question. She cursed inwardly at how her vocabulary had been affected by the transformation into a kid.
Jinx snorted. "Letting my boyfriend get turned into a child, then telling that child to back off? That takes real skill." She said, the sarcasm in her voice was so apparent Argent thought she could reach out and touch it.
The door of the room swung open and in ran Raven, desperately trying to catch her breath. Jinx stood up at once. "What's wrong Raven? Are we under attack?"
Raven shook her head. "No, Beastboy…kraken…playroom…trying to eat Kid and Aqualad." She said before collapsing. Jinx's eyes widened for a second before she dashed off towards the playroom.
Argent frowned. "Was the collapsing on the floor really necessary?"
"You're ruining the moment." Raven said from the floor, not even bothering to look up at the other girl who was shaking her head at the dramatic display that had just unfolded.
Jinx arrived to the room and looked around frantically, searching for any sign of the red hair that belonged to Kid Flash. After finding signs of neither him nor Aqualad, she crossed her arms and looked towards the giant green Kraken expectantly.
After a moment of intense staring between her and the kraken, it burped.
Jinx narrowed her eyes at the green giant. "Beastboy, you didn't."
The Kraken's eyes glinted mischievously as if to say 'Yep, I did. '
Jinx groaned before rubbing her temples in frustration. "Please tell me you at least didn't chew!"
From the sounds of the muffled screams she heard from inside the Kraken's belly, she decided the answer to that question was a no.
Jinx crossed her arms and shot Beastboy her most intimidating glare, which was by all means terrifying. Her eyes glowed brightly pink and tiny sparks flew everywhere. "Spit. Them. Out."
The kraken shook its head before Jinx heard a low rumbling noise emerge from its stomach. Apparently Aqualad and Kid Flash weren't the tastiest snacks.
Raven and Argent ran into the room. "Whoa, that's one scary squid." Argent said, astonished at the height of the thing in front of her.
"Actually, it's a kraken." Raven explained before turning her attention toward the creature. "Beastboy, spit them out. Please?" She asked in what Jinx assumed her sweetest voice was.
Instead of shaking its head this time, the kraken licked its lips hungrily before looking towards the girls before him.
Argent gulped. "If Beastboy won't listen to Raven, shouldn't we probably, I don't know, run?"
Jinx shook her head. "No," she said, hearing another low rumble from Beastboy's stomach. If he wouldn't listen to Raven, he must've not recognized them.
If there was anything Jinx had learned from fighting giant beasts, it was that running led to fighting, and she couldn't fight Beastboy. But she also couldn't let Kid Flash and Aqualad get digested. Letting your boyfriend get eaten by a giant baby kraken isn't exactly what a good girlfriend does. Jinx gave a frustrated groan, one that was almost as loud as Beastboy's rumbling upset stomach.
That was when an idea struck her. She started walking towards Beastboy, her fingertips glowing a familiar pink.
"No, don't hurt him!" Raven said as she tugged Jinx's sleeve, trying—and failing—to stop her from advancing any further.
"Maybe we could just let them come out the old fashioned way." Raven added, evoking a disgusted face from Argent.
"I won't hurt him." Jinx said honestly, sending a small hex towards the belly of the beast.
After waiting a second and seeing nothing happen, a sound emerged from the Kraken's mouth, one that Jinx took as laughing.
The laughing immediately stopped when the rumbling of the stomach grew louder.
Jinx grinned. "How unfortunate it'd be for you if you were to puke up Kid Flash and Aqualad." Beastboy had a look of confusion before his stomach growled once more, louder than all of the previous growls combined.
It bent over and made a retching sound, and after one more growl, tannish colored vomit spewed from its mouth.
All three girls shrieked and stepped back just in time to avoid getting hit by the incoming substance.
Argent gagged. "It smells like week old tofu mixed with toilet water."
Jinx held her nose. "There's a good chance that it actually is tofu and toilet water." Jinx said, vaguely remembering a soaked green puppy exit the bathroom the day before.
Raven gasped as she looked to where the kraken once stood and saw Beastboy, who was once again in toddler form. He looking greener than usual and was barely able to stand straight without wobbling.
"I don' feel so good…" he muttered before collapsing onto the floor.
After hearing a groaning noise, Jinx looked over the one of the largest puddles of puke and saw two familiar figures. She and Argent sprinted over to them as quick as they could, happy to see that they hadn't been completely digested.
"You guys okay?" Jinx asked, frantically checking both boys for signs of injury.
"Other than the fact that we just got puked out of a giant kraken, we're just peachy." Kid Flash said, wiping his face with his hand.
"Scarred. Scarred for life." Aqualad muttered. "You guys do not want to know what the inside of a kraken looks like."
Jinx gave a relieved chuckle. "I'm just happy to see that you two are okay, you had me worried."
"Worried?" Kid Flash asked while grinning. "It'll take a lot more than getting eaten by a Kraken to hurt us."
"You wouldn't be saying that if we came out of the other end…"Aqualad muttered, causing all four of them to laugh. Jinx frowned when she noticed the smile drop off of Kid Flash's face, and followed his gaze to find a tiny Raven comforting Beastboy.
"Are you okay?" Raven asked, helping the green boy stand up.
"Yeah, I guess." Beastboy said unsurely before adding. "Our friends taste horrible."
Raven covered her smile with her sleeve. "I've never had anyone turn into a kraken for me, so thanks. It was sweet—in a scary kind of way." She said before hugging him.
"But if you ever eat any of our friends again, you'll regret it." She added in a demonic voice, an extra set of red eyes appearing above her violet ones.
Beastboy gulped. "Yes m-ma'am." He said shakily, giving a sigh of relief as her eyes returned back to normal.
Jinx turned her attention back to Kid Flash and saw him wearing a scowl that was very uncharacteristic of him. She saw his tiny fists clenched in anger, and for a second she thought she'd probably have to stop him from throttling Beastboy.
But then she saw his scowl drop into small sad frown and his eyes began to go glossy with tears, and Jinx then hated herself even more for practically pushing away her tiny companion.
"Kid…" Jinx began, before realizing that she had no idea how to comfort people. Apparently though, she was great at people to the point where they'd need comforting.
After walking over with Raven and seeing the speedster close to tears, Beastboy's ears drooped.
"I'm sorry for eating you, dude. Please don't cry." He pleaded. "If it makes you feel better, you and Aqualad didn't even taste that good."
Argent narrowed her eyes. "How would that make anyone feel better, Beastboy?"
Kid Flash sighed. "No, I'm sorry," he said, not even lifting his gaze from the floor. "I wasn't trying to steal your wife."
Aqualad raised an eyebrow. "But you bought her a fish tank."
"Um, yeah. That's what I did, I bought it. Not like I borrowed it or anything." He said a bit too quickly, making Jinx face palm. He'd stolen a fish tank. It amazed her how child Kid Flash would've made a better thief than teen Kid Flash ever would've.
The speedster cleared his throat. "But really, I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to steal your friend Beastboy, I was trying not to lose another friend." He said dejectedly, causing all of the kids aside from Kid Flash to glare angrily at Jinx.
Jinx raised her arms in the universal 'don't blame me' gesture, but she felt that the only person at fault was herself.
Raven placed a hand on Kid Flash's shoulder. "It's okay Kid, we can still be buddies."
"But not really really close buddies, right?" Beastboy asked tapping his index fingers together, earning a glare from Raven.
"Thanks, but I have to be honest." Kid Flash sighed. "At first I didn't really want to be friends. I kind of, may have, tried to make Jinx jealous by playing with Raven."
After a few seconds of everyone trying to process what he had just said, they all simultaneously screamed "What?!"
Speedy, who had been standing in the doorway with Cheshire for a while, tossed a piece of popcorn into his mouth. "Plot twist!" he said in a sing song voice as he and Cheshire shared a fist bump.
Jinx shot them both deadly glares, causing both kids to quickly leave the room. She looked at Kid Flash worriedly. "But you said you'd be fine playing with the other kids."
He gave another sigh, this one sounding slightly annoyed. "That's because that's what everyone is s'posed to say. But I wasn't fine, it feels horrible to lose your best friend. So I thought if you saw me playing with Raven, you'd get jealous and want to be my friend again. But you didn't." He said, and in effort to keep from crying, he followed the remark by wiping his eyes with his sleeve.
"Later I did really want to be friends with Raven. We were having so much fun playing with each other that I forgot Jinx didn't want to be my playmate anymore, but when I saw Beastboy playing video games with Jinx, I got mad."
He turned and lifted his eyes to give Jinx an angry teary-eyed glare. "You said that you were too old for games, but you played with Beastboy! You didn't want to not play games, you just didn't want to play with me! You just don't like me." He said angrily. He wanted to follow that remark with another angry reply. He wanted to tell Jinx how much she'd hurt his feelings. But instead he turned around dejectedly, unable to hold back his tears any longer.
He was just about to leave the room when he felt a pair of arms wrap around him give him a hug from behind, which surprised him. He was surprised even further when he saw a few strands of pink hair from the person hugging him.
"But you don't like hugs…"Kid Flash said, vaguely remembering a time when he was a teenager and had gotten the heck hexed out of him when he tried to sneak up on Jinx and hug her from behind.
Jinx turned him around gently to face her. "No, it's just that sometimes I'm too stubborn to admit that I do like certain things—or people." She gave him another hug, not even caring that he was still covered in kraken puke, and noticed this time that when she pulled away his face had less tears and more signs of blushing.
"I'm sorry if I made you sad, Kid. I do enjoy having you around and having you as a playmate. It's just that sometimes your 'games' aren't exactly what I'd call safe." She said, feeling that 'not safe' was the nicest way she could put 'your games are crazy and practically suicidal'.
"I could never not like you," She said, rubbing his hair playfully. "I don't see how anyone could not like you—or any of you kids for that matter."
"Yeah, we are pretty awesome," Beastboy said before Raven shushed him and whispered something about 'ruining the moment'.
"So we're still friends?" Kid Flash asked, followed by a sniff.
She smiled. "Yeah Wally," she said, realizing she hadn't referred to him by his real name since he was a teen. "We're still friends."
"That was too cute," Bumblebee said, causing all five kids, plus Jinx, to whip their heads around in confusion. Starfire and Bumblebee stood in the doorway, and from giant smile on Starfire's face, Jinx assumed they had been standing there and watching them for quite a while.
"You're back!" Aqualad screamed before dashing towards both girls. He hugged them before Bumblebee patted his head affectionately, raising an eyebrow and the weird tan stuff his hair left on her hand. "Seems like we were missed."
"It also seems that we have missed much." Starfire added, noting the fowl smelling substance covering the room, Aqualad, and Kid Flash.
Bumblebee raised an eyebrow. "Do we want to know what went on here while we were gone? I mean, we left you alone with children, Jinx." She grinned before jokingly adding, "I'm surprised they're still alive."
Jinx smiled. "Just an incident with a giant kraken. In other words, nothing out of the ordinary for us."
"We're friends again!" Kid Flash said as he held Jinx's and dragged her over to the girls. He was swinging arms with her so fast that sometimes it was a blur.
"And so are we," Beastboy said, wrapping Raven into a tight hug, which she surprisingly didn't seem to mind.
Starfire clasped her hands together in excitement. "Glorious! Friends Kid Flash and Jinx have made up and Beastboy and Raven are friends once more!" She said, wrapping everyone in the room into one of her tight embraces. "We should throw a celebration in honor of the good news! We can play the games of party and eat the celebratory cuisine of my planet! We can eat Narfka berries and—"
She was cut off by the ringing of her communicator. Much to everyone's relief, Starfire dropped them and after a moment of fumbling with the communicator, she managed to get it open.
She didn't even have the chance to say her usual greeting before Robin began speaking with the utmost urgency.
"Starfire, I have a lead in Sector Thirty-Six. It is important that you meet me th-there n-now." He said, the connection was beginning to break up, making his last words come out in fragments.
"Robin?" Starfire asked worriedly, her concern evident on her face. She looked to her friends for answers or reassurance, but sadly, they had none. After moments of solely static, Robin's voice could be heard coming through the communicator again.
"We may need backup, hurry—"he was cut off as the communicator made static noises and the connection died.
Another chapter finished! This chapter was difficult for me, seeing as how I had to make Kid Flash sad, which is a hard task for me considering all I wanted to do as I wrote this was hug him. I hope those of you who commented on wanting more Kid Flash and Jinx moments enjoyed this chapter. I knew I was going to put more Flinx moments in, since they are my Otp, but I wanted to also try adding drama to my story by making them not have the smoothest relationship (or friendship, seeing as how he's a kid). Please keep in mind that Kid Flash is currently a five year old, so it'll be hard for me to give them the moments I WANT to give them. Also, I'm very thankful for my reviewers : ) It makes me happy to see so many people even considered reading my story, let alone liked it.
With all of that being said, I'll see you guys next chapter. Have a great day!
