~Chapter Ten~

"Really Sandy, you let all of these poor tragic souls wallow in their failure in trying to make that terror believe," Pitch juts his head over to the frustrated Amara, who was attempting to clean the bird poop off her jacket, a smirk on his pale face. "Yet you could've told your dear old friends much earlier about this so that they wouldn't had been wasting their time dilly- dallying down here, clearly suffering." he taunts, rolling his eyes.

Sandy rolls his golden sleeves up, an angry expression on his face.

Pitch flinches, and holds his hands up hastily in fear, seeing that he was about to get on Sandy's bad side. The others are frowning as well, impatient by Pitch's mockery. "Get to the point Pitch!" Bunny exclaims, stomping his fit in frustration. Pitch's expression once again goes back to its cocky demeanor, his lips curling into a smirk.

"Hold it there Bunny, don't get too impatient now…" Pitch faces the whole group and says, "Well, I bet that the all of you didn't know this, interesting bit of information about our powers."

The Guardians all raise an eyebrow, taking a brief glance over to their golden friend. A look of recognition spreads across Sandy's face, his arms dropping to his side. "What could that be, Pitch?" North asks, his face formed in mistrust.

Pitch chuckles in amusement, seeing that the Guardians, apart from Sandy, had no idea what he was talking about. "Well, Sandy and I had cross paths in the past, plenty of times. This one time, his dream sand and my Nightmares collided, going into the same child. The sand mixed, and what do you think was the result?" Pitch surveys the Guardians' expressions, which were nonplussed and puzzled.

"What would that be?" Tooth questions, cocking her head in interest.

"It's only logical, really. Sanderson's dream sand brings good dreams...my Nightmares bring, well of course, nightmares...but when the two are combined together...that would make,"

A lucid dream. Sandy states, the golden cursive words appearing above his head. North, Tooth, Bunny, and Jack glance at their friend in surprise at this. "So that means…" Tooth begins, her eyes widening in realization.

"...That the both of you can give Amara a lucid dream…" Bunny adds on to her sentence, catching on to what Pitch was suggesting.

"...And that we can send her a message or something like that through her dream!" Jack whoops, doing a flip in excitement.

"So the all of you do have brains after all." Pitch states snarkily, rolling his eyes once more. Everyone shoots him a sharp glance, with him shrinking back slightly. His arrogant composure comes back, with him looking back to Sandy. "What do you say Sandy? May this be the first and last time that we work together."

Sandy gazes at Pitch, then over to the other Guardians in hesitation and reluctance. As much as the other Guardians were reluctant as well, they nod encouragingly at the Sandman. Sandy looks back to the waiting Nightmare King, nodding in answer.

"Alright, it is settled, but what exactly will we tell Amara in her dream?" North says to Pitch and Sandy.

Pitch scoffs at North, as if he asked an illogical question. "Oh dear North, you think that you can just enter a human child's dream, let alone, their mind?" Pitch shakes his head and continues, "For you see, my powers along with Sandy's revolve around the mind and their dreams. Unlike yours and your other fellow Guardians, your powers go around something else completely.

"Maybe Sandy and I can enter the young girl's mind, but the rest of you certainly can't. Even if the all of you can go into her dreams, that would be too much other conscious minds inside her mind, which would probably make the unfortunate girl sleep forever." Pitch smirks at that bit of information. As for the Guardians, they cringe at horror from this.

"It's surprising actually, but the child's mind is such a delicate thing, so not much things should disturb it so much. However, Sandy and I could probably make the girl dream about the all of you," Pitch pauses, looking over to the red head girl, who was now getting ready to go to sleep.

"Ah, perfect timing. Anyway, as I was saying, we can influence the girl into dreaming about you, but I have the feeling that may not work."

The Guardians take in this information for a moment. North then says, "So I see, Pitch, but how can we trust you whole-heartedly for you to be inside the mind of a child?"

Pitch gives a dramatic sigh and says, "Oh North, from all of our time of being trapped down here together, you don't trust me at all?"

"What do you think." Jack says in dead pan, his expression not amused.

THe bringer of nightmares go back to his serious appearance and says, "You can or cannot trust me," Pitch shrugs. "But what other choice do you have really? Or ideas? Time is of the essence here North, I suggest that you shouldn't waste it. The more you dabble on down here, the children of the world are slowly losing their belief in you, my Nightmares terrorizing them, and I highly doubt that those spirits that Manny spoke of will fight them off any longer. It's your choice.

"But let me have my say in this, North. I do not pounce on every chance I have to terrorize a child. Especially now in this situation. I know that there are limits, I know the difference between good and evil. I know that my Night Mares up there without my control are a danger to children out there. I know that they should be stopped."

Surprise flashes across the other spirits faces at Pitch's statement. They could tell that he was serious which was one thing for sure, and a real first.

"So as much as it would be a pain for all of us," Pitch resumes, his voice mixed in with sarcscm. "You all need to trust me. And as much as we would all hate it as well, I am sure, we need to work together." Pitch spits out in disgust, repulsed at the very thought.

"The feeling's mutual." Bunny interrupts, his bushy eyebrows furrowed.

"Same here." Pitch retorts dryly. "All in all, I assure the all of you that I won't lay a finger with the intention of hurting to the girl. Besides, the only reason I am bothering to help you is that I can't stand another minute around you fools."

Sandy steps in front of Pitch, his face twisted in agitation, wanting to get over their plan already.

"Fine. We might as well trust you." North mutters begrudingly, not wanting to say so. "But if the two of you are the only one that are going into the child's dream, what exactly are you going to do?"

Pitch waves it off. "What do you think? We'll go straight to it, and will inform her of everything about your existence. I only have a small amount of Night Mare sand left in me, so Sandy and I only have one try at this."

"WHAT?!" the Guardians exclaim, taken aback in shock.

The Nightmare King huffs in exasperation, as if dealing with incredibly dumb five year old children. "What do you imbeciles think? My power has almost been stripped down to nothing, so this is what I have been reduced too!"

"Gah, just do your job already!" Bunny says ruefully.

"What do you think I'm about to do, you impudent kangeroo?" Pitch shoots back, with Sandy and Tooth restraining Bunny from jumping Pitch in a fit of rage. He holds his pale grey hands out in open palms, black sand materializing in thin air. Sandy does the same, a ball of dreamsand appearing in his hands.

At the same time, both spirits shoot the sand at Amara at once, the golden and black sand combining into some kind of silver mixture. Pitch and Sandy start growing fainter and fainter, until nobody was left in their spots. The Guardians' attention turns to the sleeping Amara, with the silver dream sand swirling above her head.

A/N: And yet another cliffhanger. :p I hope that there wasn't too much dialogue in here. Oh well. Review please! :D
