Chapter 10

Halloween Plans...Well Sort Of

Okay, so I'm not exactly ready to add Part 2 of 'Stand Up to Cancer' yet. However I will say that Candy Hearts, and New Directions will merge for the halftime show, on Halloween Night. I'll be creative with it as much as possible.
Second -for anyone who read this in the first post, I have to thank RosemaryAlysse for pointing out my miss-ship between Connor and Kaylie. It's supposed to be Connor x Maia. I previously had Connor as saying he thought he was gay, however, I am now changing it to him thinking he's bisexual, this may or may not effect the plot line later on in the story.

"Hey Des, do you have any plans for Halloween?" Corey asks me, as though this was top priority.

"Corey, you do realize that Halloween is three weeks away," I ask as I meet his eyes.

"Yeah, I know that, but us seniors have to do something for Halloween as a credit," he answers me back, as he grabs his theater classes script, and I read the title Almost, Maine.

"Fine, what were you thinking?" I ask, as I role my eyes, and give in, knowing that if I didn't Corey would beg me to do death until I finally said yes.

"Well I know that Vi has planned this thing for the glee club, so we can cancel that out, I can't ask you to the haunted house, because, well I can't think of a reason," he begins, and then looks at the floor.

"So basically you asked me to go with you on Halloween night, and you have no idea what to do," I guessing jokingly, as I look him in his eyes.

"Ummm yeah, I guess," he tells me, and then looks me in the eyes.

"Well Marshmallow Head, I guess you have to dig deeper than that," I tell him jokingly as we head inside for Glee rehearsals.

" Alright listen up! Today we are voting on captains, and co-captains," I announce proudly, as everyone shows that they are ready to get this going. Cheers of excitement came from everyone, even Mike.

"Settle down, settle down, I know we're all excited to find out who is captain, and co-captain, now however, the candidates can't vote for themselves," I finish before I announce who we have for candidates. "For captains, we have Corey McGuire, and Brad Weston," I announce, and then I hear cheers again. I knew who my vote was going for.

"For Co-captain's we have Destiny Wilson, and Kaylie Jackson," I announce excited, as I finish introducing all the candidates. As on Que, my cell phone vibrates in my pocket, and I take it out to see who it is.

"Mike, I'll be right back, it's mom calling," I lie to Mike, as I exit the music room, and stand in the hallway to answer my phone, and I smile.

"I miss you," I tell Daz on the other end of the phone.

"I miss you too," he tells me. Then I begin to cry. California from Ohio is a long way from each other.

"You crying?" he asks me, as he tries to cheer me up.

"Of course not," I tell him, though I know he knows different.

"I'll be back shortly," he tells me, then I stop what I was thinking. If I was thinking anything.

"It was your dream to be on the Voice," I tell him, and then Mike opens up the door to check on me.

"I'll be right in," I tell Mike, and then he leaves to go back in the music room.

"You better go. I'll call you later," I tell him, and head inside to be in the rest of the group.

"We won't sing anything today, tomorrow we will have open assignment, and find out who are the captains," Mike tells us.

"Is it alright if I stay behind a bit?" I ask, knowing that Mike would always leave the piano open for anyone who wanted to play it at anytime.

"Sure, you know the drill," he tells me, and exits the music room. When he leaves, I sit at the piano.

"This is for you Daz," I whisper to the keys.

Way back on the radio dial,

The fire got lit inside a bright-eyed child.

Every note just wrapped around his soul,

From steel guitars to Memphis, all the way to rock and roll.

Ohhh, I can hear 'em playin'.

I can hear the ringin' of a beat up ol' guitar.

Ohhh, I can hear 'em singin',

"Keep on dreamin', even if it breaks your heart."

Downtown is where I used to wander.

Old enough to get there but too young to get inside.

So I would stand out on the sidewalk,

Listen to the music playin' every Friday night.

Ohhh, I can hear 'em playin'.

I can hear the ringin' of a beat up ol' guitar.

Ohhh, I can hear 'em singin',

"Keep on dreamin', even if it breaks your heart."

Some dreams stay with you forever,

Drag you around but bring you back to where you were.

Some dreams keep on gettin' better,

Gotta keep believin' if you wanna know for sure.

Ohhh, I can hear 'em playin'.

I can hear the ringin' of a beat up ol' guitar.

Ohhh, I can hear 'em singin',

"Keep on dreamin', even if it breaks your heart."

"Alright ladies, and gents, we don't have Mr. McGuire, or Dinger, as I call him, so we have to skip his lines," I announce to my cast, as we get ready to rehearse our lines.

"Pony Boy, I didn't expect you to show up in the theater room," I tell Andrew Williams, well Andy to every student in the student body, except for me.

"Thanks Vi, but I came for setting up," I tell her, as I brush some of the loose blond hair out of my face.

"So Pony Boy what's your plan? We both know doing set isn't your thing," I ask him wonderingly, as I look him in the eyes.

"What do you mean?" he asks trying to sound confused, but knowing what I was talking about.

"C'mon now Pony Boy, we both know you're still in love with Little Puckerman, and we both know that you want her back," I tell him, as though I had had been wanting to say this for a while now.

"What if I tell you, I can't figure that out. I mean, we have a month left until our last soccer game, unless we go to states," he answers me. Then an idea popped in my head.

"Here, read those this," I tell him, as I hand him a copy of Almost, Maine.

"What will that do?" he asks, as he opens the booklet up, and scans some of the lines.

"Trust me, Pony Boy, I know what I'm doing," I tell him.

"Ladies, this is Andy Williams, he'll be playing Steve," I announce to the rest of the cast. I wasn't about to tell them that I couldn't change Corey's role in this.

"We already have someone playing Steve," complained Vanessa Potter, as I could tell that she was attempting to flirt with Andy.

"Yes, Vanessa, we did, but he dropped out," I answered her back. Vanessa was not going to get in my way to get Abny back together.

I watched as Gwen left with Tayson. I was glad that she was finally over Brad Weston. Between the two of them, I would have totally chosen Tayson in the first place, being as I met him before when he was still attending Dalton, and I must say he looks good in uniform.

Then I saw Andy, and immediately went to talking with Zeke, the only boy on the Cheerios.

"Zeke, what are you doing after this?" I ask him, as tuck some of my loose hair behind me ears.

"Well Elijah are headed to Breadstix to grab something to drink, and then after that, I don't know what," he tells me, as he sees Andy, and connects the dots.

"Why don't you just talk to him already? It's time you two get back together," he tells me, as his boyfriend, Elijah Wilson walks up to him, and gives him a kiss.

"Hi Abbie," Elijah greets, as he sees me there.

"Hi Elijah," I answer him, and then give my attention back to Zeke.

"No, we need our space apart," I tell him, as I pick up my Cheerios gym bag, and place it on my shoulder.

"You better snag him before he someone else does, because girlfriend, a boy like that won't be single for long," Zeke tells me as Elijah gives him another kiss.

"Alexa wants him," I finally admit to the two boys, as they walk hand in hand to the parking lot.

"Oh Sweet cakes, that's even more of a reason to get back with him. She'll just want him, so she can get to you, and well so can get in his pants," Elijah tells me.

"I'm not ready to get back with him, I still care about him though," I admit, as I don't bother telling them that I really did and do want to get back together with him. Just not yet.

[Connor]

"So what's on your Bucket List?" I ask Maia, as I pull out my laptop, and pull up a word document, so I could get my homework done, and I smile, because I had used my homework, and after glee rehearsals she had finally given me her cell phone number.

"Isn't supposed to be your own work?" she asks and then giggles.

"Well yeah, I suppose so, but I want to know at least one thing on your Bucket List," I tell her, as I sit at my computer desk, getting ready to type, because I had my phone on speaker.

"I haven't thought of anything," she tells me. Then it dawns on me, I go to my guitar stand in the corner of my room, and get my guitar, and start picking at it. Then I remember the notes to the song I want to cover.

"Number one, sing on stage with someone famous," I tell her, as I realize I had that listed for a while.

"What do you mean?" she asks curiously.

"Get on Skype, and you'll find out," I tell her, as I position my guitar, and hang up on her so she would have no choice but to get on Skype and find out what I meant.

A few minutes later, I saw her pop up on Skype, and position my guitar, and hope that this would work.

"So I have this song I would like you to hear. I mean, in rehearsals we cover songs," I tell her.

"Well get to your point Justin 3.0," she tells me sarcastically. After she said that, I wondered if it was worth singing it to her.

"As long as you promise not to call me that again," I tell her.

"Deal. I would shake on it, but I'm not there in person," she tells me, and then laughs again.

"Alright, here goes. Fast Car by Tracy Chapman," I tell her.

You got a fast car

I want a ticket to anywhere

Maybe we make a deal

Maybe together we can get somewhere

Any place is better

Starting from zero got nothing to lose

Maybe we'll make something

But me myself I got nothing to prove

You got a fast car

I got a plan to get us out of here

been working at the convenience store

Managed to save just a little bit of money

Won't have to drive too far

Just cross the border and into the city

You and I can both get jobs

finally see what it means to be living

See my old man's got a problem

He live with the bottle that's the way it is

He says his body's too old for working

his body's too young to look like his

My mama went off and left him

She wanted more from life than he could give

I said somebody's got to take care of him

So I quit school and that's what I did

You got a fast car

Is it fast enough so we can fly away

We gotta make a decision

We leave tonight or live and die this way

so I remember when we were driving, driving in your car

Speed so fast it felt like I was drunk

City lights lay out before us

And your arm felt nice wrapped round my shoulder

And I,I had a feeling that I belonged

And I,I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone

You got a fast car

We go cruising to entertain ourselves

You still ain't got a job

And I work in the market as a checkout boy

I know things will get better

You'll find work and I'll get promoted

We'll move out of the shelter

Buy a bigger house and live in the suburbs

You got a fast car

I got a job that pays all our bills

You stay out drinking till late at the bar

See more of your friends than you do your kids

I'd always hoped for better

But maybe together you and me'd find it

If you got no plans and ain't going nowhere

Take your fast car and keep on driving

You got a fast car

But is it fast enough so you can fly away

You gotta make a decision

You leave tonight or live and die this way

"That was good. You should try to get solos more often, I think we could even go to Sectionals with you," she tells me, as though she had changed her mind or something, and I wasn't sure as to why.

"My brother took ND to Nationals last year," I tell her, as I run my fingers through my hair.

"Did they win?" she asks curiously, and then smiles. She had a pretty smile.

"Yeah, but they almost didn't," I tell her. I didn't want to talk about it. "Hey, I have to go, but I'll talk to you tomorrow," I tell her.

"I have homework to do anyways, so yeah, I'll see you tomorrow," she tells me with a smile, and then I sign off

[Gwen]

"October first, we've managed the first three weeks of school, and we have Homecoming in two weeks," I tell Tayson, though I knew he already knew that, as we take a seat at Ace's Diner.

"You want to go?" he asks me, as he knows my next question, and I take his hand.

"I'm game. So are you running for King?" she smiles, as a waitress comes us, and wonders if we're ready to order, as we scan the menu.

"I'll have a Pepsi, and a small onion ring," I speak up, as a couple more students walk in.

"Water and a Ceaser salad," she tells the waitress with a smile, and puts her menu back behind the salt and pepper shakers.

"I'll have to talk with the office tomorrow, but yeah, I am thinking about it," I tell her, as the song turns to a song from the fifties.

"I think you would make an awesome Homecoming King," she tells me. Then a couple of students from our school came in, and immediately came over to where we were.

"Hello Gwen," he greets as though it were a joke.

"Jordan, dear, why don't you go to BreadstiX, I hear that they are looking for help,"

"No they're not, I should know, especially since your boyfriend, works there," he tells us evilly.

"Yeah, I work there, and don't get along with my dad, what's your point? It's an imperfect world," I tell him, as I thinking about punching him, but figure it would be a waste of energy.

"Whatever Captain," he tells me, and gives me the coldest look that he could give me.

"We're not done, oh and Gwen, Westy needs to talk to you. I'm sure you know about what," he tells us, as he walks away, as though he had wanted us to give into him, and found out that wasn't going to happen.

"Sorry about that, he's trying to get me and my ex-boyfriend back together," she tells me, with a quick smile.

"People are like that, well I won't be, and you know that sad thing, I've never been in a relationship, and after graduation I might be attending Boot Camp for thirteen weeks," I tell her, as though that would cheer her up, even when I knew it wouldn't.

"Does Violet know?" she asks curiously, as we finish our food, and I walk up to pay the bill.

"No, and I don't want her to. Well not yet anyways," I tell Gwen, as I take her hand, and we head to the jeep.
