Chapter 10

David came out of the stables after putting Queen away and making sure she was fed and watered. He looked over at Emma from the side, watching her as she watched Henry and Regina riding together, and he couldn't help but notice there was something different about his daughter. She was smiling differently, he had seen her smile before, something that had only increased since Neverland he had noted, which he assumed was down to rescuing Henry and having him home safe and sound, but this smile was brighter, warmer, more passionate. He had seen that smile before...from Mary Margaret to himself, but he frowned, slightly confused as he looked from Emma over to Henry and Regina and then back again, he couldn't make sense of the picture before him...why would Emma be smiling so brightly? Of course he would have put it down to watching Henry doing something that made him happy and with Regina who he knew Henry had been increasingly missing since Neverland, but there was just too much love and compassion in his daughter's face for one person but he just couldn't figure out why.

He watched as Henry and Regina galloped over to Emma on Magic and Swan and stopped short of the fence, both mothers praising Henry for his riding and Henry smiling at them. He almost scoffed at the thought that next came into his head...they look like a normal little family. He shook the thought from his head knowing that it was a ridiculous comment, Henry lived with himself and his family now and that was how it would stay. Yes Henry had told him in confidence how much he was missing Regina but he was sure that Henry just needed some time to get used to being back in the loft, and seeing Regina every now and again. David was sure that Regina would do or say something to annoy Emma or Henry causing the big custody battle once again soon. Regina had changed, he knew that and she was being a good friend to Emma but he knew that with both women having very difficult pasts and both being fiery with their tempers something would go wrong sooner or later he could feel that something big was going to happen, he could sense it.

"Well done kid you were great" Emma praised

"Yes, you are very skilled Henry, I am very proud of you" Regina agreed causing Henry to smile gratefully lapping the comments up, having missed this attention since moving from a mansion where he was the only other occupant to the small, cramped loft which he had to share with 3 other people. He had come to realise that when he was living in the mansion with Regina he missed Emma a lot, imagining Emma's input into the conversations he had with Regina or her playing video games with him or just being there in the room, he missed her presence. However, since going back to the loft after Neverland and after spending some time with both mothers together while travelling back, he started to imagine Regina's input into his conversations with Emma and his grandparents, he missed her cooking and helping him with his homework and the feelings that he used to feel about Emma when she wasn't there were now increasing about Regina.

"Come on! David called over to the trio causing them all to turn to him. "I have to get the horses away and fed before closing time".

Regina and Henry trotted on their horses out of the field and towards David who held the reins while Regina gracefully climbed down off Swan and went round to help Henry off of Magic. Regina helped Henry take his helmet off and even though he could do it himself he let her help him. David took the horses back to the stables.

"So, did you enjoy your first time on a horse?" Regina asked Emma

"I actually did, I didn't think I would but it's actually a lot of fun but definitely not easy" the blonde laughed slightly

"I told you it was fun mom!" Henry smiled gaining a smile from Emma "and next time you will get better".

"Thanks kid, well I had a good teacher" looking at Regina and both of them locked eyes and smiled gently at each other, feeling each other's warmth but they both begged to be able to touch the other, just for their fingers to touch, to entwine would be something at least but they knew that it wasn't normal for them to indulge in that type of behaviour so they had to control their urges...and there were a lot of urges to control. When they pulled their gazes from each other they could see that Henry's smile had faded.

"Henry?" Regina questioned quickly not sure what was wrong, for a moment she panicked and thought that she or Emma might have somehow shown their secret but she gave herself and the blonde a quick glance up and down and couldn't see what could have happened.

"It's just...I have to go back to the loft now right? Henry asked not looking at either mother

"Well, yeah kid, why?" Emma asked confused

"Can mom come too? for dinner?" Henry asked

"Oh, I don't think that is such a good idea Henry" Regina answered, she was aware of Mary Margaret's feelings towards Emma spending time with her and she thought that perhaps she felt that she shouldn't be seeing Henry as much either, which of course made her blood boil but she knew it would be extremely awkward to have dinner with them all together. Yesterday at the diner had gone very well but Mary Margaret was seated on a separate table and there were other things to talk about. She didn't want to get into any fights with Mary Margaret that could affect how Henry or even Emma thought about her.

"But you can come back to...mine...one night and I will cook dinner for you if you want and spend some time together?" Regina said trying to ignore how much it hurt to not call her home his too but she didn't want to upset him or Emma and wasn't sure on the correct language to use when it came to homes and family yet. Of course she knew Emma now classed Henry as both of their son and Henry classed them both as his mothers, which was increasingly comforting to Regina but she had ruined it all before and was terrified of making that mistake again.

Emma watched Regina giving her answer to Henry she could see the pain in her eyes and hear it in her voice when she had to say no to Henry and not call her home his, she knew that Regina couldn't go on like this, both women could make each other happy but they couldn't be a family and get the true happiness they deserved while living separately. Again another problem with telling their secret, what if Henry took it badly? He missed Regina and he wanted to spend time with both of them but he also loved seeing his dad and she didn't want to hurt him knowing that he thought that Emma and his dad might be getting back together.

"How about tonight?" Henry asked his brunette mother "Can we come for dinner tonight? Me and mom?" he smiled at both of his mothers in the way he knew how to break them down and wrap them around his little finger. One last please from him did it and Emma laughed lightly as she agreed

"That is, if Regina says it is ok" Emma answered which of course Regina did.

"Right" David came back from seeing the horses were safe and fed "ready to go home?" he asked.

"Oh, erm...well the thing is...me and Henry will be going to Regina's for dinner tonight" Emma told him awkwardly and from David's shocked expression Regina could sense the problem.

"No, it's ok, Mary Margaret has probably already made dinner...you...go ahead, we can do it another night" the brunette said trying to disguise the disappointment in her voice.

"No" Henry said "Please mom I want to have dinner with you and Emma tonight, please? Mary Margaret won't mind" he said.

"Don't worry Henry" Emma told him "We are going to Regina's tonight, David will tell Mary Margaret and everything will be fine" she said speaking to Henry but looking at David who sighed knowing that his wife would not be happy but, he saw how much Henry wanted to be with his mothers right now having spent some time with his dad over the weekend and he reluctantly agreed.

Henry smiled happily upon arriving back at the mansion he grew up in with Regina. After living in the small loft with Mary Margaret, David and Emma the mansion seemed even bigger than he remembered, it had been months since he had stepped foot in his old home and yet the welcoming warmth he remembered was still there.

"Henry why don't you go upstairs and change out of your riding things, you are a bit dirty dear" Regina asked seeing Henry's muddy pants from the stables

"You have my clothes here?" Henry asked a little shocked

"What do you mean dear? Of course I have some of your clothes here, you had to leave some things behind remember?" Regina reminded him a little anxious about how he seemed to have forgotten.

"No I mean, you kept them for me?" Henry asked equally as shocked as before

"Yes...of course! Everything is exactly how you left it dear"

Henry had spent so long thinking that his mother had thought that by him moving to the loft that he didn't want her as a mother anymore, which wasn't true in the slightest and he couldn't help but think that in anger or frustration at him leaving she wouldn't have kept his room for him. However, conformation that she had in fact not just kept his room but not moved anything showed Henry that she really did love him and she missed him like she said she did and he couldn't help feeling a little guilty for leaving her. He ran upstairs after removing his shoes to his old room as Regina offered Emma a drink as she went into the kitchen to prepare dinner.

"Hello, dinner is almost ready" Mary Margaret chimed hearing the door open behind her as she quickly fussed around the small kitchen area in the loft but was abruptly made to halt and spin around as David cleared his throat loudly wanting her attention. She frowned seeing her husband standing before her but no sign of her daughter or grandson.

"Where are Emma and Henry?" she questioned "They had better not be late, it will go cold, did you all have a good time? Did Regina behave? Was Henry alright?"

"Hey hey what is this?" David exclaimed lifting his hands up in front of him "I didn't know we had started a game of 20 questions, look I know you are making dinner but Emma and Henry won't be joining us tonight, Henry wanted to have dinner with Regina at her house and Emma was invited too" he gently said trying to explain in a way to not upset his wife.

"What?" she said sounding a little hurt as her fussing around was a waste of time "But it's nearly done?! Was this Regina's idea? You didn't try to persuade them?"

"Mary Margaret, it's what Henry wanted, he asked not Regina." David told his wife "He had a really good time at the stables with Emma and Regina and wanted to have dinner with them both. Even if I did try to persuade them back here do you really think they would have come?"

"I just want to protect them, I don't want either of them getting hurt again" Mary Margaret explained "I know Regina is changing but there is something Emma is hiding I can tell and I'm really worried something bad will happen" she said as David edged closer towards her and gently wrapped his arms around her waist.

"I know you don't want to see them hurt, neither do I but if this is what they want we can't stop them, it's just dinner Mary Margaret, and it's good that Henry has seen Neal and Regina this weekend with Emma and Emma is right, you can't treat her like a child, we have to just learn to accept what she wants to do and if she wants to be friends with Regina then I honestly think it is a good idea, she needs more friends besides Ruby and you can't push her towards Neal anymore you heard her, she doesn't love him" David reminded the dark haired mother

"No no I know she said that, and I said I would drop it with Neal...but you know..." David could practically see the light bulb go off in her head at that moment "if she knows Neal isn't her true love...then Hook must be!?" she said with that sickly sweet smile on her face that was so big she looked like she was about to explode with excitement. "So maybe that's what she is hiding because she is worried about how we will react?" she smiled practically jumping up and down at the prospect of Emma finding her true love.

"He had better not be her secret! He isn't good enough for her...he is a pirate for god sake, he isn't true love material"

"Oh David, let her be happy if she is happy with him, we just have to wait for her to tell us!" her smile growing in size due to the unimaginable excitement brimming inside her at her daughters chance at true love, even if it was with hook, she thought.

Emma watched in amazement as Regina cooked their dinner entirely from scratch, helping her where she could and sneaking quick kisses from the brunette, gaining small giggles from Regina, both of them glancing round to the entrance to the kitchen to make sure they hadn't been seen by Henry after each one.

"Emma you are going to get us caught!" Regina had whispered grinning but Emma quickly kissed her again on the cheek as a reply, she couldn't help herself, they were alone and it felt like so long since they had declared their true feelings for each other and it was becoming increasingly difficult for Emma to keep her hands to herself. So, she wrapped her arms around the mayor's waist as she stood up from checking the meal cooking in the oven, gently pushing up against her back and kissed at her cheek and down her neck. The blonde became increasingly excited when she heard a small moan leave Regina's lips as she found a certain spot on her neck and couldn't help herself kissing there again and she was rewarded with the same delicious sound once again.

"Emma...don't" Regina moaned quietly trying to not let herself get distracted by the obviously frustrated blonde sheriff

"Why?" Emma questioned tightening her grip around the brunette's waist "You know you like it when I kiss you here" kissing her neck again, "I remember from our night together" she whispered giggling lightly, as Regina brought her hand up and combed through Emma's golden curls, her eyes closed as she relaxed into Emma's touch. Regina lifted her head back and met Emma's soft, supple lips, kissing lightly at first but before they knew it Emma had turned Regina around in her arms and kissed her harder pushing her against the kitchen counter. Regina licked her tongue across Emma's bottom lip slowly which drove Emma crazy, as she opened her mouth allowing Regina's tongue in to meet her own. They gripped at each other's bodies as they felt the heat and passion build between them as they pushed against each other.

Before they could go any further Regina heard a sound, a sound that she hadn't heard for so long and had missed a ridiculous amount...Henry running downstairs, to Regina it was one of the best sounds in the world especially at that moment after him not being home with her for what felt like an eternity even if he was interrupting her special moment with her swan. The two lovers jumped apart, Regina quickly wiping her lipstick from Emma's lips and cheek with the thumb, causing Emma to try and duck away instinctively like a small child would do, this only made Regina's heart melt even more for her swan, she was adorable, and pretty soon she hoped they wouldn't have to hide anymore.

"Oh my god" Emma groaned laying on the couch in the front room of the mansion holding her tummy "I don't think I have ever been so full in my life" she moaned.

"Well you shouldn't have eaten so much then" Regina said smirking at the sight before her, perching herself on the arm of the couch as Henry came in with the same look on his face as Emma, quickly laying down on the floor next to the couch, holding his tummy too.

"Mom...that was amazing!" he groaned

"My god do you two not get fed back at the loft?" Regina asked slightly concerned at the way her son and true love had wolfed down the meal she had prepared as well as desert.

"Yeah, but not food that good" Emma groaned causing Regina to giggle and Emma smiled hearing the beautiful sound, she made a mental note to make her laugh more often so she could indulge herself in the gorgeous sound of Regina Mills laughter.

"Yeah mom, Mary Margaret can cook but not as well as you" Henry smiled through his pain

"Well you are both welcome...I think?" she smiled kneeling down on the floor in between them both, placing a comforting hand on Henry's leg. "Please don't either of you be sick, I just had the floors cleaned" Regina pleaded causing Emma to laugh and then whine holding her tummy

"Oww oww don't make me laugh Regina, it hurts too much" she giggled and looked over at Regina meeting her gaze, green eyes meeting brown, and both women smiled.

Henry yawned, exhausted from school followed by riding and then eating too much. "Mom, can I stay here tonight? In my own bed, please?" he yawned and Regina's heart skipped several beats, in fact she wouldn't have been surprised if it had jumped right from her chest there and then.

"Of course" she said chocking on the words to get them out quick enough

"If, you really want to stay for the night, then, yeah, sure" Emma stuttered caught a little off guard sitting up slowly to see there was no point in arguing anyway as he was nearly asleep on the floor. "Come on up to bed then" she said lifting his shoulders helping him sit up.

"I will be there in a minute to tuck you in dear" Regina said excitedly as Henry slowly made his way out of the room, up the stairs and into his room. Regina's smile stretched from ear to ear and Emma couldn't help but smile back seeing the excitement and love for Henry in her face.

"Go on" Emma reassured her seeing Regina go to follow Henry and then pause looking back at her "I will be fine here, I just need to rest a while, but you know this means I am staying over too right?" the sheriff smiled

Regina kneeled back down and kissed the blonde woman gently placing a hand on her full tummy and whispered "You know this means you will have to sleep in the space room?" which caused Emma to whine and protest "Emma, we can't sleep in the same room when Henry is here, we will just have to find another way...and soon" Regina was growing just as impatient as Emma, they had agreed to take it slow but they didn't mean slow as in none existent, both women were growing impatient and frustrated together however, this was yet another obstacle in their way. However, Regina was enormously excited at the idea that both her true love and their son were both spending the night at the mansion with her, tonight she wouldn't have to pretend she wasn't alone...as she really wouldn't be alone.

Regina kissed her saviour once more and jumped up following Henry upstairs.
