Maya stood in the hall watching Lucas, studying his facial expressions as he tried to assess the damage. He seemed to be panicked, like he was trapped even though physically he had all the room he needed.
Lucas was indeed trapped, there were people every which way staring at him. If he tried to walk away he would have to go through either Cory and Riley with an army of other students, or in the other direction with Farkle and others.
"Lucas?" Riley asked again looking at him with her large puppy dog eyes waiting for him to give her a satisfying response, however she doubted anything he could say would be satisfying. Of course she had dumped him but that didn't mean she wanted him kissing her best friend!
"Mr. Friar." Cory said looking down at the young man "would you like to go for a drink or use the rest room?" he asked gesturing down the hall way. Cory seemed to be reacting rather practically and not personally, maybe he understood the situation from experience?
Lucas was almost too choked up to respond but he managed to nod his head. "ye-yes sir" he managed to say breathing a heavy sigh walking out through the crowd. Cory must have known people were following without even turning around because Lucas immediately heard "and only Mr. Friar. Everyone else get to class" this reassured Lucas some.
Unlike Lucas Maya would not get off so easy. Hitting her leg against the blondes once everyone was back in class in their seats Riley looked at her "What in the H word was that?" she asked in a whisper.
"Riley I don't know anything more than you do." Maya said burying her face into her hand. "I'm just as confused as you are, I just- I just don't know. Ok? And side note, hell is not a bad word."
"You sound like you know something." Riley mumbled turning back to the front of the class looking at her father.
Punching Riley's arm almost as hard as she could Maya looked at her with a glare that just spelled D-E-A-T-H she was so offended anyone in a ten mile radius could smell, see and hear it. "What the heck is that supposed to mean?" this was barely a whisper, she was almost so offended she just didn't care who heard her, but she managed to keep it quiet enough.
"OUCH!" Riley yelped breaking the silence causing her father to turn around and look at her, but he turned around sighing realizing what it was about.
"Look Riley, just whatever." The blonde said rolling her eyes also turning back to face the board and Mr. Matthews.
Riley knew she shouldn't have mistrusted her friend and that now she was paying the price by receiving the silent treatment or something that Maya did but she wasn't sure how to fix it this time. Obviously their friendship would overcome the trial, it over came every trial, but how long would she have to go without her friend?
