Disclaimer: Here it is guys. The final battle. The Confrontation at Anegawa! Let's see how this battle goes, shall we? Enjoy!
Oh and there is another twist in this chapter!
Motochika and I stood side by side on a cliff overlooking the battlefield. Well, technically I was crouched down. My purple eyes surveyed the battlefield, taking in everything. I saw a shadow moving across the water, but no body. Hanzo Hattori, Ieyasu's best ninja and practically a bodyguard. I then set eyes on the daughter of Tadakatsu Honda, Ina. She's a good archer, but she lets her emotions drive her. Then I saw Tadakatsu himself. Kami that man was big!
"Observant, are we?" Motochika chuckled.
I chuckled as well but I didn't respond to his question. Instead I said, "Motochika. Promise me something."
"Anything, love." Motochika kneeled beside me.
I stared down at the sand in my hand. "Promise me that you won't end up like this sand." I watched as it was carried away by the wind. "Lost forever in the panels of history." I buried my face in his chest as I wrapped my arms around him. "I don't want you to die."
Motochika wrapped me in his strong embrace and stroked his fingers through my hair. He murmured, "I have no intention of dying here today, Kaya."
I lifted my head up to look at him. He tilted my chin up and soon I felt his lips on mine. The kiss was short and sweet. Just the way we like it. We were both disappointed when we had to pull away.
"Come on. It's time to tell the army the plan." Motochika whispered.
I nodded my head. He stood up and held out his hand. I took it and stood up. We walked back to the main garrison where the Akechi army was waiting. They all snapped to attention when we walked in. I looked around and asked, "Where's Mitsuhide?"
"Right here, master." Kaito smirked as he and Mitsuhide walked in. "We just left to scout out the battlefield for a bit, that's all."
I nodded and turned to the army. "Alright, so here's the deal. The chance to take revenge on the traitor Mitsuhide Akechi has brought all of the opportunist out of the holes, and here, to Anegawa. The enemy forces are mighty and are led by Ieyasu Tokugawa."
Motochika took it from there. "Keiji Maeda, Tadakatsu Honda, Katsuie Shibata...All will go down in history as legends of the age. But I will stand against them all, and keep Mitsuhide safe until the last."
"And so will we. Nobody's in this alone, ya got that?!" I yelled.
"Yes ma'am!"
"Excellent." I smirked. "Our first targets will be Toshiie Maeda and Katsuie Shibata."
"The enemy has launched a flotilla of river bombs to make our jobs harder. Touch them and they will explode. To stop them, we must claim the enemy strongholds from which they are being launched." Motochika said.
"Master, can we shoot our arrows at these bombs and explode them from a distance?" Kaito asked.
"Blow them up on your own if you like. Just make sure you're not blown up along with it." I said. "Everybody ready?!"
I received a pleasant cry of determination. I smirked and said, "That's what I like."
Motochika, Mitsuhide, and I stood in front of the gate, waiting for it to open and the battle to begin.
"Don't die." I said.
Mitsuhide gripped his sword. "I have no intention of dying today."
"Neither do I." Motochika said.
I smiled and said, "Make sure you keep that promise."
The gate opened slowly and we soon came face to face with the Tokugawa army. I ran forward instantly, killing any soldier that got in my way. I jumped to the right to avoid an angry Toshiie who attacked the first second he saw me.
"If it isn't the second traitor." He sneered. "You're just as bad as Akechi! And then you gained feelings for Chosokabe! That's even worse!"
"Your point?" I snapped. I'd gotten used to the traitor comments but no one insults Motochika and gets away with it.
"The point is that you're a traitor!" Toshiie snapped. He then ran towards me with a battle cry.
I'd always knew that the Maeda were extremely talented warriors. But it was a shock to see those skills up close. Toshiie was relentless and I was stuck on the defensive.
"I thought you were stronger than this." Toshiie taunted.
I merely narrowed my eyes and quickly jumped backwards. I noticed that while Toshiie was powerful, he was also slow. Before he made it to me, I quickly notched and arrow and let it fly watching it light up in flames. Thank you elemental bow.
"H-Hey!" Toshiie barely dodged it. He smirked at me. "You missed."
I returned the smirk. "I wasn't aiming for you."
I was aiming at the shield Kaito had in his hands. He was grinning like a cat as the arrow rebounded off the shield and struck Toshiie in the back. Toshiie stared at me in shock before he collapsed. I watched as he took his final breaths.
"Great strategy master!" Kaito exclaimed.
I nodded at him before running on to the other side of the garrison. Katsuie was sure to be there. I thought about how we rescued him back at Tetorigawa. Talk about irony. I ran in to the garrison and stood face to face with Katsuie.
"With my lord gone, I am left here, a relic from another age." Katsuie began as we circled each other. "Mitsuhide is no different. He regrets what he has done and no longer has the will to do on. He is not fit to rule this land! Together, he and I must take our leave."
"I've heard enough Katsuie Shibata! Your concern right now is me, not Mitsuhide!" I proclaimed.
"As you wish." Katsuie sneered as he ran towards me.
He was the same as Toshiie. Powerful, but slow. I used that to my advantage once again. A memory came to mind as I fought Katsuie.
*Flashback*
Nobunaga stood in front of a fourteen year old me. This was back when I first joined the Oda army. After Nobunaga took me in and made me his apprentice when my village was destroyed.
I grunted as I was once again pushed to my back. I slowly stood up and turned to face him.
"Hn. You're strong, but not strong enough to handle a full grown man." Nobunaga said as he circled me. "Speed, agility, and strategy are your best options." He stopped in front of me. "Use your opponents strength against them."
I nodded in determination. Nobunaga was teaching me hand to hand combat. He said that I can't always rely on my bow. I shifted in to my stance and watched as he rushed at me. I dodged to the right and analyzed his body. He was leaning forward and his right foot was slightly off the ground. I quickly got behind him. I jumped up and kicked his back. Hard.
Nobunaga stumbled to the ground as I flipped backwards off of him. I landed in a crouch and I lifted my head up to see him staring at me with a satisfied look. He walked over to me.
"Well done, Kaya." Nobunaga laid a hand on my shoulder.
"Thank you." I smiled slightly. "Lord Nobunaga."
*Flashback End*
"Use your opponents strength against them."
I analyzed Katsuie, watching for any mistake he made. I didn't have to wait long. It seems like he's making the same mistake Nobunaga made. I quickly got behind him and kicked him in the back. He stumbled to the ground and I quickly stabbed an arrow through his chest. I watched as he slowly stopped breathing.
"Master!"
I glanced to my left to see Kaito running towards me. "What is it?"
Kaito was panting heavily. Jesus, how far did he run? "Magoichi Saika, Keiji Maeda, and Ina are heading towards Lord Akechi!"
"That just won't do." A dark smile came to my face. "Kaito, inform Motochika. Tell him to deal with Maeda and Saika. I want to fight a fellow archer."
"God, this won't end well." Kaito muttered before saying, "Understood master." He ran off to deliver the news to Motochika.
I ran out of the garrison and towards Ina. I cut down anyone who stood in my way. When I made it there, I saw Ina was running in the direction I'd just come from. She stopped once she saw me.
"You're not getting past me. There's no way I'd let you harm Mitsuhide!" I growled.
"Any ally of the traitor shall be punished!" Ina declared as she rushed towards me.
I dodged the swing of her bow and countered with my own. She was pushed back. I smirked. It was clear who the better warrior was.
"What are you smirking about?" Ina asked angrily.
"That's what I'm smirking about." I gestured to her. "You let your emotions control your actions far too often. I've made that mistake a few times before. I know how it can cost you."
"Why would I listen to you?" Ina asked.
"That's the thing." I smiled. "You don't." I then glanced behind her. "Where the hell were you?"
Ina said, "Huh?"
That was her last word as a powerful blast struck her. The last thing Ina said was the face of Motochika.
"She was talking to me." He told her before she died.
I chuckled at that before saying, "Keiji and Magoichi are dead, I presume?"
"Of course. But now we need to hurry. The Shadow is after Mitsuhide." Motochika said before running off.
I ran after him, trying to figure out who the shadow was until I remember the only ninja in Ieyasu's ranks. "Shit!"
We reached the main garrison and we stood outside looking for Hanzo. I watched for his shadow on the water. It was the only thing that could possibly give away his position. I saw something black and I immediately shot an arrow in that direction. Hanzo had to give away his position to dodge. I smirked at the ninja.
"This field is too bright for the shadows." Hanzo said darkly. "Those who bring conflict and war deserve death."
"How can you talk? Ninja are assassins. You're as guilty as the rest of us for bring conflict and war." I told him.
"Silence." Hanzo commanded as he cloned himself. I was now staring at three, identical ninja.
"Damn you." I sighed. One Hanzo was enough.
All three Hanzo's rushed at me. I growled and as soon as they swung their blades I ducked. The clones struck each other and Hanzo had enough sense to jump away. He didn't try to make any more clones.
"I thought you could control those things?" I questioned.
"That was simply a trial run." Hanzo told me.
I was confused until what he said finally sunk in. He was testing me. Wow, that is a smart ninja.
"I have to admit. That was a smart move." I narrowed my eyes.
Hanzo didn't say anything. He merely ran towards me, sickle in hand. Damn, I hate those things. Especially the ones with the chain on them. It's hard to predict where they're going to strike. I barely managed to block Hanzo's assault and I was stuck on the defensive. He sliced at my feet and I jumped backwards but I slipped in the water and fell backwards. Many unpleasant words left my mouth but I quickly became quiet once I had a sickle to my neck.
"Perish." Hanzo said.
"Hanzo!"
A yellow blur tackled the ninja off me and I was shocked beyond belief to see Nene. A hand came in to view and I trailed it to the face of Mitsunari Ishida.
"Well? Are you going to get up or are you going to sit there like an idiot?" Mitsunari scoffed.
Yep. Same old Mitsunari.
"What are you doing here?" I asked in disbelief as I took his hand and stood up. "Where's Hideyoshi? A-And Masanori? Kiyomasa?!"
"Shut up and calm down." Mitsunari sighed. Oh yeah. He hasn't changed a bit. "Lord Hideyoshi and those two idiots are on their way. They sent me and Lady Nene ahead."
"So, the monkey listened to me, did he?" I smiled. "I knew there was a reason I thought of him as a father."
A small smile fell on Mitsunari's face before we both turned towards the battle between Nene and Hanzo. She was saying something to him, and boy did he look pissed off. I was shocked when he suddenly retreated. Either Hanzo actually does have a heart, or he saw no point in trying to talk to the motherly ninja.
"You okay, Kaya?" Nene asked as she ran over to me. "Are you hurt? Any injuries? Ugh! I'm going to have a nice chat with Hanzo the next time I see him!"
I chuckled at her. "I'm fine. What made him retreat?"
"Your guess is as good as mine." Nene shrugged.
"Master!"
I turned around to see Kaito running towards me with Motochika behind him. He was about to talk when he saw Nene and Mitsunari. "Where the hell did they come from? The monkey actually listened to you?!"
I smiled. "Love is greater than loyalty."
"Yeah, great. Anyway I'd hate to spoil this reunion, but Ieyasu has launched a full blown assault! We need to defeat Tadakatsu Honda and his allies!" Kaito informed us of the situation.
"This day just gets better and better." I said sarcastically.
"Where did the Tokugawa ninja go?" Motochika asked.
"He retreated for some reason." I shrugged. "We'll worry about that sneaky bastard later. Right now, let's kick some ass!"
"I'll stay and protect Mitsuhide." Mitsunari volunteered.
"Thanks. We need all the help we can get." I said gratefully. I then gave him a murderous glare that made him step back. "But so help me, if my best friend is even injured you will find out how it feels to have an arrow in very unpleasant places. Do you understand me, Mitsunari Ishida?"
Mitsunari nodded slowly, probably wondering how a sixteen year old could be so damn scary. I then smiled sweetly at him before turning to Motochika and Nene. "You're coming with me. Kaito, you'll stay here with Mitsuanari."
"But Master!" Kaito whined but then he shut up when I gave him a glare. "Shutting up now."
I chuckled. Motochika, Nene, and I quickly ran off. I noticed the river bombs had stopped. "Hey, what happened to the bombs?"
"What do you think I've been doing all this time?" Motochika asked with a smirk.
"You are such a show off." I grinned.
"Aww! You two are so cute together! I can't wait for the wedding!" Nene squealed.
"Wedding?" I squeaked.
Nene giggled. "Relax. I'm joking."
I sighed. I tensed up once we ran in the garrison. Tadakatsu Honda was standing there, towering over us. Oh shit, we are so dead! For God's sake, what did they feed this man? He's huge!
"I shall take him on." Motochika told us before rushing at Tadakatsu.
Nene and I rushed outside to take on the other three men. Even though I protested, Nene took on two of the men: Tadatsugu Sakai and Yasumasa Sakakibara. I took on Naomasa li. He wasn't much of a challenge. A few arrows later and he was dead. I looked over at Nene to see that she finished off the other two. We ran back inside the garrison but we stayed at the opening after we saw what Motochika was about to do.
"Hit the deck!" I yelled.
Nene and I barely dodged Motochika's attack as he banged his shamisen on the ground, sending Tokugawa soldiers flying and even Tadakatsu couldn't survive that. When the attack was over, Nene and I walked inside. Motochika was standing there, breathing heavily. He was staring at Tadakatsu's dead body. I'd never seen Motochika look so mad. What did Tadakatsu say to him?
"Motochika?" I asked with a worried frown. "Are you okay?"
His eyes never left Tadakatsu's body. "I'm fine."
Nene scoffed and muttered in that motherly tone, "You sure don't sound like it."
"Did Tadakatsu say something to you?" I asked quietly.
"Yes." Motochika admitted. "Do not worry about it. Come, it is time to confront Ieyasu." He ran towards the Tokugawa main camp.
Nene and I glanced at each other before running after him. What the hell happened that made him so angry? Motochika rarely lost his temper. I decided to ask him once this was all over. On our way there, we met up with Mitsuhide, Mitsunari, and Kaito.
"Hey! Don't start without us!"
I smiled at that voice. Masanori, Kiyomasa, and Hideyoshi were running towards us. I met Hideyoshi half way and threw my arms around him. He hugged me back.
"Kaya, I'm so sorry." My father figure whispered.
"There's nothing to be sorry for." I smiled as I pulled back from him. "I'm just glad you listened to me."
"I hate to interrupt but we have to kill Ieyasu here." Kaito said in a sing-song voice.
"Damn you." I laughed.
Kaito merely smirked at me. Now that we were all here and accounted for, we ran towards the Tokugawa main camp. It didn't take us long to get there. It was time to end this.
Once and for all.
"Ieyasu!" I yelled as I let three arrows fly towards him. He deflected them with his cannon.
I looked around the garrison and I finally found it. A single shadow without a body. Hanzo Hattori. I was confused. Why was he attacking us? I know he was loyal to Ieyasu. I didn't worry about that as I dodged the cannonballs from Ieyasu's cannon.
"Cannonball!" Kaito yelped as he dropped to the ground. "Archers, take your position!" I couldn't have picked a better leader for my archer squad, even he was a bit too sarcastic most of the time.
I rushed towards Ieyasu, trying to get close to him. There was no way I was getting hit by a cannonball today! Once I was close enough, I swung my bow at him. He blocked it with his cannon. I fought with everything I had to keep this a close range battle. But Ieyasu got the upper hand eventually and smacked me away with that giant cannon. I hit the ground with a thud and growled in pain when I felt a warm liquid on my arm. Don't tell me...
"Shit." I swore as I looked at the wound I received back at Tetorigawa. It had reopened. Damn, I forgot I had the thing!
"Kaya!"
Motochika ran towards me and kneeled down beside me. He muttered a few curses under his breath when he realized he didn't have anything to seal the wound with.
"Maybe I do..." Motochika muttered.
I watched as he took off that fur he always had around his neck and his shirt like armor, leaving him in only his bottoms and his boots. I never realized how many tattoos this man had until now.
"I will not stare. I will not stare. I will not...Damn it Kaya! Stop staring!" I thought hopelessly as I tried to avert my eyes from Motochika's bare chest. He chuckled slightly, letting me know he was enjoying my misery.
"Shut it Chosokabe." I grumbled as my face heated up in a shade of red I didn't know existed until now.
Motochika chuckled as he finished wrapping the wound. He picked me up and carried me over to Kaito. "Take care of her."
Kaito scoffed. "I'd never let master get hurt."
"Look at me now idiot." I snorted.
Kaito turned away as his face heated up. "Well, not counting this moment of course."
"Come Mitsuhide. It is time to end this." Motochika said.
"We'll keep the soldiers off of you." Kiyomasa told him.
"Thank you." Mitsuhide smiled slightly. "Come Motochika!"
Motochika and Mitsuhide ran towards Ieyasu together and Kiyomasa, Mitsunari, Masanori, and Hideyoshi cut down any soldier that dared to go near them. Nene and Kaito took care of me.
"I hate getting injured. It makes me feel so useless." I grumbled.
"Ah be quiet master." Kaito grinned. "On the bright side, you managed to get a few hits in."
I felt a familiar presence enter the air and I yelled, "Hit the deck!"
Mitsuhide and Motochika attacked at the same time. Motochika bashed the ground with his shamisen and Mitsuhide slashed at Ieyasu. Our enemy was finally dead. The battle was over.
"Victory is ours. But Motochika, I...I feel as though," Mitsuhide trailed off.
"It is good to feel conflicted, my friend. Too many have been sacrificed for your life to be an easy one." Motochika laid a hand on Mitsuhide's shoulder. "You have a grave responsibility and a valuable opportunity. But do not worry. You will not walk this path alone."
"That's right." Hideyoshi said. "We're all here for you. Together, we will make this land a better place!"
I smiled. Peace was finally achieved.
Motochika and I sat on the balcony of the castle. I laid my head on his shoulder and sighed in content. Motochika strummed his shamisen and smiled at me.
Mitsuhide walked over to us, looking over the land. "There is no war. I cannot hear the cries of my people. I have created the land I dreamed of. But...Lord Nobunaga's death weights heavily on me."
"You would prefer it if you had not met me?" Motochika asked, not taking his eyes off his instrument. "If you wish, I can simply disappear." I think my heart dropped to my stomach when Motochika let go of everything he had in this hands and flipped backwards off the balcony.
"Motochika!" Mitsuhide and I screamed.
We leaned forward a little too much and I yelped as we slid down the roof. Someone caught my hand and I caught Mitsuhide's. I looked up to see Motochika staring at us.
"Give me a heart attack, why don't ya?!" I yelled angrily at the smirking man.
Motochika stopped smirking and looked down at Mitsuhide. "You are still too weak. But I will stand beside you and be your strength." He lifted us up and it just occurred to me just how strong this man was. "I will not let go of this hand."
After a moment of silence, I asked, "Um, guys? How are we supposed to get up?" I then glared at Motochika. "Didn't think of that, did you wise guy?!"
I let out a small squeal when Mitsuhide and I were suddenly swept up. Motochika climbed back on to the balcony and I waited for whoever arms I was in to put me down. My eyes were shut tight. Once we were on solid ground, I opened my eyes to see that I was in the arms of the one and only Hanzo Hattori. I looked over to see that Mitsuhide was being held by...
"Oh shit!" I jumped on to my feet in a second. "What the hell is Kotaro doing here?!"
Kotaro smirked at me. "I was sparring with Ieyasu's former lap dog here and we passed by. The look of fear on your faces amuse me."
"Kotaro! Stop being such a bad boy!"
Hanzo pinched the bridge of his nose, the only sign he showed of being annoyed. But we all knew he cared for us all, whether he showed it or not. Well, maybe he didn't exactly care for Kotaro just yet but at least they don't outright hate each other anymore.
Nene jumped down in front of us and started scolding Kotaro and Hanzo. Mitsuhide and Motochika chuckled at the sight. Motochika took my hand and guided me to his quarters. I didn't mind, but I was confused. Why was he bringing me here? Once we were inside, he shut the door and took both of my hands and simply smiled.
"Uh, what are you doing?" I asked.
"Kaya, you know I love you right?" He asked.
"Of course I do." I said. Where was he going with this?
"Well, I've been thinking." Motochika smiled. "And I realized that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you."
My breath hitched in my throat as he gave me a beautiful purple lilac. Is he...?
"Kaya, when the time is right...will you be my wife?" Motochika asked.
"Holy...Huh? What? How...?" My mind was racing a mile a minute before I finally managed to say with a huge, idiotic, grin, "Yes." I jumped in to his awaiting arms and exclaimed, "Yes! Yes Motochika! I will!"
We both laughed as he swung me around. I heard the door open but I was still too excited to comprehend it.
I was going to be Motochika's wife.
One more chapter! Just one more and that is the epilogue. Yay! Motochika and Kaya are going to be married soon! Until next time, I'm out!
