Chapter 10
I felt Thorin leaving the bed, I sighed, knowing it was time to get up. After we both redressed, I started braiding my hair when I felt hand push mine away with Thorin doing them himself. I turned to him and did his braids before giving him a light kiss. We gathered up our weapons before leaving the room to look for the other.
As we made our way out of Rivendell, Thorin spoke up. "Be on your guard; we're about to step over the edge of the wild. Arien, I'm sure you know these paths; lead on."
"Yes." I said as I took the lead.
Scene skip
We were now in the misty mountain on a narrow trail. There was a fierce storm in the air.
"Hold on, Thorin said over the wind. "We must find shelter!"
Dwalin catch's Bilbo before he almost falls.
We look up and see a massive boulder hurtling through the air; it hits the mountainside above us, causing rocks to fall around them as they press themselves against the mountain.
"This is no thunderstorm; it's a thunder battle! Look!" Balin said.
In front of Fili and me, the path started to split. "Kili! Grab my hand! Ki..," Fili shouted as the two groups get apart.
Next thing I know, we where hurtling towards the mountain. Fili flung himself around me, trying to protect me. When the giant falls away, we find ourselves safe on the ledge of the mountain. Fili moved off me as the other dwarves ran into the scene. Thorin rushed over to my side and helps me up. "I'm fine. Fili made sure I was safe."
"Where's Bilbo? Where the Hobbit?" I hear Bofur shouts.
I turn to see Ori and Bofur try to hold onto Bilbo, but Bilbo slips and falls another few feet, before catching another hand hold. Thorin swings down on the cliff next to Bilbo and boost him up, where the others pulled him to safety. Dwalin tries to help lift Thorin back up too, but Thorin loses him grip and begins falling too; I gasp and take a step forward, but Dwalin is able to grab his hand before lifting him back up. I sigh in relief.
"I thought we'd lost our burglar." Dwalin said.
"He's been lost ever since he left home. He should never have come. He has no place amongst us. Dwalin!" Thorin says as they go off and find a cave.
"It looks safe enough."
"Search to the back; caves in mountains are seldom unoccupied."
I moved off to one side of the cave to try to catch my breath, I was so out of it that I did not hear Thorin come up behind me. "Arien?"
I jumped and turned to him. "Are you alright?"
I felt a tear form on the corner of my eye before Thorin pulled me into his arms. "I'm alright! Let us get some sleep." He pulled me over to one side and lied down on his side; I lied down beside him and placed my head on his chest.
I closed my eyes, thinking back to one of my happy days.
Flashback
It had been five years since we were married and it was around this time that I started noticing something different. I had asked my maid about my symptoms.
"Well milady. I think you're pregnant!" she said.
"Preg..., pregnant."
"Aye. I would say you are about a month maybe two. I'm surprised it took this long, with how active you and your husband are."
I blushed at the thought. "Don't stay stuff like that."
"Sorry milady, but it's true."
I had laughed then. "A baby," i said as I placed a hand on my stomach.
Later that night, as Thorin enters our chamber I stood up and made my way over to him. I placed my arms around him after he shut the door. "Hello to you too love," I said looking at me. "What's got you so cheerful?"
"I have great news."
"And what is that?"
I smiled at him. "We are going to have a child."
He blinked a few times. "Truly?"
I nodded my head as a huge smile formed on his face before pulling me into a kiss.
Thorin was in the main hall pacing the floor listening to his wife's screams that was bringing their child into the world. His nephews where playing a game on the table with Balin and Dwalin he would stop every time she screamed.
After an hour, Thorin stopped for the last time as he heard her scream and the cries of a baby. They turned to the hallway waiting for a maid.
A few minutes later one stepped in. "Milord, you may come."
Thorin followed her to this chamber and entered to see his wife with a bundle in her arms.
She looked up as he entered. "Thorin come."
He moved over to her side and sat on the bedside. "Say hello to your son." She said, as she gently placed him in his arms. Thorin looked down at him in wonder.
"What do you want to name him," Thorin asked.
She thought for a short minute.
"Duilin. This name will be Duilin."
