A/N: Suuup? Been a while, huh? I should have been doing my college work, but instead I wrote a fanfiction. Alright, in this chapter it's focused more on Danny than anyone else. But I threw in some Alice parts as well. There's some Danny and Artemis bonding towards the end, just as friends...Sam will also be coming in next chapter! Dani makes her appearance! Huzzah!
Disclaimer: I don't own Young Justice nor Danny Phantom
Danny tried to hold back a yawn as his backpack hung loosely off his shoulders. Poison Ivy, Penguin, and the Riddler all broke out of Arkham last night, and he hadn't caught much sleep, due to the first day of his sophomore year the next day. "The late nights are killing me…" He mumbled to himself under his breath, so no one could hear him. He saw a blue blur in front of him, and noticed Alice who was heading into school, clutching her red arm. He couldn't see why she was clutching her arm, though, as she was wearing her blue long sleeved shirt. "Al-!"
"Yo, Danny!" Came a hyped up voice from behind him, cutting him off, much to his frustration. "Ready for the first day of school?"
"Wally…I really hope you don't pull your stuff from last year," Danny grumbled as he crossed his arms in annoyance.
Wally put a hand on his shoulder and smiled, "Hey man, I'll promise not to…But you'd still have my back, right?" Wally asked as he started to chuckle.
"I'm being serious here," Danny said as he narrowed his eyes, "I was almost kicked out of the chess club last year because of you!"
"It was worth it!" Wally yelled with nostalgia as his eyes started to become glazed over. He then shook his head and looked around, "Did I miss Alice already? I hadn't gotten a chance to talk to her all week, she was bottled up in her room at the Cave."
Danny scrunched his eyebrows in surprise, "Are you serious? I wonder-"
"Hey Dan!" Came a booming voice. Danny had a smug smile on his face.
"Derick, how've you been?" Danny asked as the boy came around in his jock jacket with a huge smile on his face.
He held a hand out and they did a bro shake before putting their hands back to their side, "Good bro! Caught up on my football practice and I'm ready for the big season! How have you been, little man?"
"Had a little…Fun…" Danny grimly said with a goofy smile on his face. 'After all, my summer has been hectic…' The young halfa thought. "Went to a different country."
"Cool, cool, man. Anyway, I have to get going, have to meet up with my squad. I really hope we get into the same science class again this year! See ya!" Derick yelled with a wave as he walked away, approaching a group of his football squad.
Wally gave a sheepish grin as he had his hands on his waist, "Whoa, Danny. Popular?" He teased as he leaned in closer to his friend.
"Hardly," Danny grumbled as he rolled his eyes. "Come on, don't want to be late on the first day," he said as he started to walk to the guidance counselor who was sitting at a table outside with a copy of everyone's schedule. Wally did the same as he tried to not snicker. When they got their papers they quickly compared, or, more like Wally snatched Danny's paper out of his hands so quick the young halfa couldn't protest.
"Oh sweet! We have Algebra 2 together!" Wally yelled excitedly. "Hmm…Masters teaches it? Never heard of him, maybe he's new?" Wally asked as he placed a hand on his chin in thought as Danny snatched his paper back to look at it.
"What did you just say?" Danny asked as his heart started to beat faster in fear. He looked at the paper and he immediately felt a feeling of dread in his entire being upon scanning the name. "That…He…No…" Danny stuttered in fear and anger as he tried to not shake his hands.
Wally, who was too busy looking at everyone that he barely noticed the episode that his friend was experiencing, "Yup…New teachers are the worst," Wally said with a sigh as the bell started to ring. Everyone started to go off to their first period classes…Unfortunately, it just so happened that Algebra 2 was Danny's first class. He quickly pulled out his cell phone as he started to text Sam and Tucker, whose first day hadn't started yet.
"Oh man!" Wally whined, "Math in the morning! I hate math!" He yelled out dejectedly as he sighed.
As they approached the door, Danny started to feel nervous, 'And here I thought this was going to be a good year,' he thought hopelessly as Wally pulled open the door. Danny went through it and noticed that the teacher hadn't arrived yet, and the boy took this opportunity to sit near the back. Wally followed him and sat across from him. Seats started to fill up relatively quickly, a few people giving friendly gestures to either Danny or Wally. The one minute bell started to ring, and everyone started to talk casually among themselves, as they waited for the teacher to finally arrive. Danny started to text to his old friends.
"Dude, Vlad is teaching my math class" – D
"…Are you serious?" – S
"Oh man, that's gotta suck!" – T
"Tell me about it. I'm not even safe at school anymore!" – D
"Cheer up, Danny…Maybe it won't be that bad?" – S
"Good morning, class," came a deep voice. Danny didn't even need to know who it was, instead, he hid his phone in his desk and kept on texting. "We'll start with a warm up. It should be fairly easy," he said as he smiled and grabbed a blue smartboard marker. He wrote down the equation (X+Y)(X+Y). "Can someone evaluate this for me?" He asked as he looked around the room and smiled when his eyes landed on the person that he was looking for. "Daniel?" He asked as innocently as he could.
Danny cringed with surprised and rested an elbow on his desk and covered up his face with his other hand. 'I don't need this right now,' he thought as he tried to not scowl.
"Dude, he knows you?" Wally asked in confusion.
Danny only sighed and ignored Wally, "Pass…Mr. Masters," he said as he tried to continue texting his two friends, but he noticed that Vlad was standing next to him, he also had his hand outstretched expectantly.
"Your phone, Daniel. I do not permit texting in my class," Vlad said with an authorative voice, yet he held a triumphant smirk on his face. The entire class gasped, surprised that the infamous Danny Fenton was caught texting, and he never got caught.
"Danny got caught?"
"I don't believe it, last year he would always text, but they could never find a phone!"
"Dude…"
Danny narrowed his eyes, and then he smirked. He turned his phone that was held in his hand intangible. "Surely you're mistaken, Mr. Masters, I don't have a cell phone out," Danny said mischievously as he brought out his hand from inside his desk and showed it to the man.
The class gasped again, they had all looked at Mr. Masters for his response. He smirked as he let out his red eyes and sent thousands of shocks through Danny's hand in that instant, all without touching him. Danny let go of his phone, his face turned into one of pain as he tried to not let out a scream as he bit his tongue. His phone turned visible and fell into Vlad's outstretched hand, he then smiled.
"Your little magic tricks may fool all the other teachers, Daniel, but they do not fool me," he said as he put Danny's phone in his pants pocket. "You may get this back at the end of class. In the meantime, would you be kind enough to do the problem?" Vlad asked as he walked back to the front of the classroom. Danny grudgingly followed, rubbing his injured hand with his other hand at an attempt to relieve some pain.
'I can't believe he used his ghost powers on me in class!' He thought angrily as he gave Vlad the darkest glare he could muster. Vlad gripped the very bottom of the blue marker as he offered it to Danny with a smirk. The young halfa plucked it from the tip of the marker, and was surprised to feel a ton of shocks pulsing through the marker and going into his body, making it jolt a little as a response.
'He used his ghost powers…Again?! What's he trying to prove?" Danny thought angrily again as he tried to not growl from frustration and anger. As Danny brought up the marker to the board, he started to feel a burning sensation in his chest, where the 'V' was. 'And of course this has to happen…Now…' Danny thought grimly as he clutched his chest with his free hand and quickly started to do the problem.
"Danny doesn't look too good. I think he should go to the nurse," came a girl's voice as she stood up, "I can take him if-"
"I'm fine, Susan. Thanks, though," Danny said as he turned around with a small smile on his face. "Had a late night is all," he said as she nodded slowly and sat back down at her desk. He then looked over at Vlad with cold eyes, the room temperature dropped a few degrees as a few students shivered. "Your problem is done by the way…" He said as he placed the marker down and started to walk back to this seat.
Wally looked at his friend in confusion, "How did you do that so fast?"
Danny shrugged still clenching his chest, though in hurt less now that he was away from Vlad. "I don't know, speedster, you tell me," he teased with a smirk.
"Rude!" Wally yelled as he crossed his arms.
Danny felt eyes on him and looked up, he had met eye contact with Vlad, who was looking at him with an intriguing look. Danny quickly looked away and picked up his pencil, ready to take notes. 'I can already tell this is going to be my favorite class,' Danny thought grimly as he tried to not roll his eyes. As the class went on, the pain in Danny's chest started to subside, much to his relief. The bell rang for class to end and as Danny stood up, Vlad called over to him.
"Daniel, please come up here," Vlad said as he looked down at some of his papers on his desk.
"See you at the Cave," Wally whispered as he gave Danny a 'good luck' look. Danny nodded slowly in response as he put on his backpack as he waited for all the other students to leave before going up to Vlad's desk to have a confrontation with him.
"Give me back my phone," Danny demanded as he glared.
Vlad chuckled darkly, "Now, is that any way to treat a teacher? Come now, Daniel, have you any respect?"
"Oh, I do, just not towards you," Danny cockily said as he smirked and crossed his arms.
"I must say, Daniel. Color me impressed," Vlad said as he looked up at Danny and smirked, "You've raised your grades up in math."
Danny growled and let out his green neon eyes, "Why are you here, Vlad?"
Vlad chuckled, finding the child's act of defiance nothing short of amusing, "Ooh, the scary eyes…I'm here because of my job, little badger," Vlad said as he looked directly at Danny. The young halfa took a step back as he felt a little intimidated.
"Job?" Danny asked in confusion.
"Why, to teach you, Daniel," Vlad stated as he smirked. A chill came over Danny as he tried to not let the fear be shown through his eyes. 'That has a double meaning to it,' Danny thought grimly as he tried to not let his body shake in fear.
"I don't need you to teach me anything," Danny scowled as he tried to gain his confidence back.
Vlad's smirk grew, "It's only natural for the Master to look after his apprentice," Vlad said as he held out Danny's cell phone.
Danny growled, "Not going to happen. It's never going to happen," the boy adamantly said as he snatched his phone from the man. He made no reaction, only blinked his eyes.
"Technically, you already belong to me," Vlad said as he brought a finger up and made a 'V' motion across Danny's chest, directly where the 'V' on his chest was. "I'm only letting you enjoy your 'freedom' for a short while," he said as he narrowed his eyes at the boy, who glared at him back. "You see, it was fated from the moment your parents died that you belonged to me…"
"I don't belong to you," Danny stated with absolute disgust in his tone.
"You will return to me soon enough, I'll see to it," Vlad said with a smirk.
Danny, who was tired of repeating the same thing every time he came across the man, narrowed his eyes, "I'm not yours, Vlad. I'm not anyone's, and I never will be. Get that through your head," Danny stated as he started to walk out of the room.
"I wonder how long it will be now…Before I break you," Vlad said in mock disinterest. Danny stopped walking as his eyes went wide.
"What…Are you talking about?" Danny asked as he slowly turned around.
Vlad glanced at him as he placed his hands on his desk, "The mark on your chest isn't like the last one. It won't simply 'go away' just because you want it to. The pain will only increase, and then you will finally come to me."
Danny glanced down at the floor in uncertainty before turning around and walking out of the room, not saying another word to Vlad. 'Just another thing that's added to the list…' He thought as the minute bell rang for the next class to start. 'Apart from getting a tardy…Bruce is going to get so mad if I get one on the first day of school!'
Teardrops:
Alice clutched her upper right arm in pain, as she could feel the curse mark start to spread. So far, she had done a pretty good job at keeping it in line, but it was eating her powers dry. She entered the school and got straight to class, taking a seat in the back.
"Alice Waters!" Came a voice from in front of her. Sweat was starting to form down her face, but she wiped it off with the sleeve of her shirt as she looked up at the person addressing her with a smile.
"Yes, Francis?" She asked with a tilt of her head.
Francis, a boy who was a junior this year, cocked his head to the side in confusion, "You're awfully cheerful for a student body president who hasn't been pulling her weight all summer…" He grimly said with narrowed eyes.
"Oh? Did we have work?" Alice asked, as she felt the curse mark start to travel down her arm like a snake, as it twisted all around her arm. She suddenly grabbed her arm, making the boy startled as he took a step back out of surprise.
"I-Is there something-?"
"There was a bug…Please continue," Alice pressured as she still had the same smile.
"But…You're wearing long sleeves…"Francis mumbled as confusion started to overwhelm him.
Alice sighed as she put more pressure on her arm, unleashing a small amount of her water powers to soothe the burning sensation of her arm. The snake receded back up to her upper arm, and she sighed in relief. "Are we done here, vice president?"
"Erm…Yes…" Francis said as he placed a folder down on her desk. She glanced at it in confusion.
"What's this?" She asked as she opened the document and noticed the picture of a boy who she knew all too well. "Matt…?" She asked as he eyes went wide.
Francis looked up, "You know the new student council treasurer? Considering you didn't go to any meetings over the summer, that's a real shocker."
"I…Where is he right now?" Alice asked as she stood up suddenly.
"Should be in the student council room…Why?" He asked, but his question fell on deaf ears as Alice took off deeper into the high school.
'He's alive! I knew he was alive!' She thought happily as she skidded around the hallway corner, nearly colliding with students, if she hadn't manipulated her body with her water magic to avoid them. She kept running at a constant speed, not once slowing down as she was determined to meet him. 'I knew he would find me! But why is he here? No, that doesn't matter! He's here, and that's what matters!' She thought as she approached the student council room and slammed the door open, seeing the young boy with dark purple hair spiked in a 'feather' shaped pattern. He was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans as he sat in a chair, reading a book. Alice's chest was moving at a furious rate, since she still hadn't caught her breath.
"Matt!" Alice yelled as she stepped into the room. The boy looked up and he had blue eyes as he looked into her blue eyes with confusion.
"Do I…Know you?" He asked as he closed his book and stood up.
Alice's heart skipped a beat in agony, "I'm Alice…" She said slowly, in disbelief.
"Oh! The president. I'm sorry, you weren't at the summer meetings…I'm Mathew Jones," he said with a friendly smile as he extended his hand. "Nice to meet you, finally."
Alice could only stand there, it was as if time had stopped. "To be forgotten…Is a fate worse than death…" She mumbled as tears started to well up in her eyes as she darted out of the room. Her body started to evaporate into water particles as she teleported herself back to the Cave.
"Recognized, Kid Flash B-03," Came the robotic voice alerting the Team that the young speedster had finally arrived at the Cave.
"The Wall Man is here!" Wally yelled as he had on his swimming shorts and started running towards the center of the Cave with his arms filled to the brim with beach supplies. Although, he tripped, and the beach supplies had went everywhere, making everyone in the room look at him in confusion.
Artemis held her bow in front of her and wore a devious smirk on her face, "Wall man, huh? Based on the way you dress, what exactly are your powers?" She asked, amusement lingered in her voice.
"Uh, who's this?" Wally asked as he approached Robin and Aqualad. He then looked over at Danny who was in his ghost form with his arms crossed, floating off the ground a little. "And how did you get here before me?"
Danny let out a shrug, "I think everyone gets here before you," he said offhandedly with a small smirk on his face.
"What is this, pick on Wally day?" Kid Flash asked sarcastically as he looked around the room, expecting someone to answer his question.
Artemis took a step forward, a sign of introduction, "I'm Artemis, your new teammate," she stated as she wore a small smile.
"Kid Flash, never heard of you," Wally stated with a shrug.
Artemis frowned as she narrowed her eyes slightly at the young hero. "Um, she's my new protégé," Green Arrow said as he stepped forward and put a hand on her shoulder.
"What happened to your old one?" Wally asked as he heard a robotic voice.
"Recognized, Speedy, B-06," she said as it echoed around the area.
"Well, for starters, he doesn't go by Speedy anymore," Roy said as he walked into the cave. "Call me Red Arrow," he said with no emotion.
Green Arrow took his hand off of Artemis' shoulder quickly as he started to walk towards his old sidekick, "Roy…You look-"
"Replaceable," he stated, cutting off his old mentor.
"It's not like that," Green Arrow justified, "You told me you were going solo."
Roy tried to not scoff, "So why waste time finding a sub. Can she even use that bow?" He asked as he lifted an eyebrow towards Artemis.
"Yes, she can!" She snapped back, as she took a step towards Roy, as if challenging the boy to a fight.
"Who are you!" Wally yelled above the drama.
"I'm his niece."
"She's my niece."
"Another niece?" Robin asked incredulously.
"But she is not your replacement," Aqualad stated in a serious voice. "We have always wanted you on the Team, and we have no quota on archers."
"And if we did, you know who we'd pick," Wally said with a smirk on his face.
Alice remained silent throughout the entire encounter as she leaned against the wall with her arms crossed. Her blue hair hung loosely in her face as she glared at Artemis across the room. 'This is Sportsmaster's daughter? She's changed since we met as children…' She thought darkly as the curse mark on her arms started to burn her skin.
"Whatever, Baywatch. I'm here to say," she said cockily as she placed a hand on her hip.
"You came to us for a reason," Aqualad said, taking the initiative to find out what Roy wanted them to know.
Roy nodded, "Yeah, a reason called Dr. Raquet."
Robin released a grin as he typed a few things on his hologlove, "Nanorobotics expert at…"
Danny glanced over at Alice who was staring a death glare towards Artemis the entire time, he then hovered closer to her, and she hadn't even noticed him. He waited a few seconds before finally deciding to call her name. "Alice, you okay?" He asked as he landed on the ground.
Alice glanced towards him before returning her death glare on the girl dressed in green. "I don't trust her," she said simply, with no emotion her voice. "She's not really his niece…In case you couldn't tell."
"We haven't even started to work with her. I mean, she could be really cool," Danny said with a shrug. "Besides we shouldn't be so quick to judge a book by its cover…Or so Jazz would say, anyway."
Alice shook her head, "You don't understand. She was raised to be a killer. In any second she could betray us and put down any single one of us in a heartbeat."
Danny took a few seconds of silence, "I guess…But so could you if you wanted. So could any of the other members."
"I don't trust her. That's all," Alice concluded as her gaze never lifted off of Artemis. Since her hair fell in front of her face, Danny didn't see the way her eyes lit up a menacing red from the anger she was experiencing.
"-Yeah, sounds like the shadows," Artemis said in a bored manner.
Wally rolled his eyes, "Like you know anything about the shadows…" Wally said dryly and Artemis just smirked at him, making him feel annoyed and left out in the dark. "Who are you!" He yelled again in frustration.
Everyone was spaced out at the high school where the good doctor was placed. Alice was by Danny who were patrolling the outer perimeter of the high school.
'Miss Martian, link us up,' Aqualad thought and Miss Martian did as she was told.
'Everyone online?' She thought.
Artemis scowled, 'Ugh, this is weird!' She thought as she looked at her hand, as if she felt completely different.
'And completely distracting,' the doctor thought, 'Trying to come up with a solution on a kiddie computer with less RAM than a wristwatch isn't hard enough…Now I have to hear teen think in my skull?' the doctor complained as she clutched her head.
'Lady, do you always complain when people try and help you?' Kid Flash thought as he started to take a bit out of his candy bar.
Artemis held back the urge to roll her eyes, 'Pot, kettle. Have you met?' Artemis thought teasingly as she smirked.
'Hey, hey! I do not need attitude from the newbie who drove Red Arrow off the Team,' Kid Flash thought as he narrowed his eyes at Artemis.
'That is so not on me!' Artemis yelled in her mind as she stood up and crossed her arms with attitude.
The doctor clutched her head in frustration, 'Fate of the world at stake!'
'She started it!' Kid Flash yelled in his mind as he also crossed his arms.
'How about I just help the rest of the team patrol the perimeter?' Artemis suggested as she started to walk outside.
Aqualad had his arms crossed in boredom, 'Good idea,' he thought in a grave tone.
As the doctor had located the fog, Super Boy and Robin had left on the bioship to track it, leaving the rest of the Team at the high school.
'You embarrassed Super Boy,' Miss Martian thought in her mind in annoyment.
'He didn't say anything,' Artemis thought with a shrug.
'Do you have to challenge everyone?' Miss Martian asked in her head.
'Where I come from, that's how you survive,' Artemis thought cockily, making Miss Martian narrow her eyes.
They heard a yelp behind them and found Alice had an orb of water in her hands, traces of blood were on the orb. They looked and Artemis looked on in curiosity, while Miss Martian looked on in confusion.
"We have company…" Alice said grimly as she gripped the orb of water, and it formed into a water sword.
'Everyone! We have an intruder!' Miss Martian yelled, and all of the hero's were on the defensive. Wally noticed a person and decided to approach the mystery person with caution, rather than just run after them mindlessly. He noticed the balls on the ground, heading into the pool and looked inside. He noticed a woman in a shade of green with a cat mask on her face. He narrowed his eyes and made a mini tornado with his speed, making the balls on the ground fly into the air and go all around the pool room.
"Who are you?!" Wally yelled as the winds started to die down. The woman said nothing and charged at him with a knife. His eyes went wide as he dodged it, and then caught her hand, making the girl let out a scoff as she tried to pull back. "Are you the assassin?"
"Perhaps," she said with a cock of her head as she swept Kid's legs from under him, making him gasp as she ran out of the room, but locked the doors behind her. Wally quickly got up and tried to run after her, only to find that the doors were locked. He pounded his fist against them in frustration as he let out a growl.
'I lost her!' He thought grimly. 'She's coming towards you guys!'
'I'm coming, Aquald,' Danny thought as he turned intangible through the high school walls in a desperate attempt to get there sooner. However, the 'V' on his chest started to burn, and he clutched it as he slowed down his flight. 'Or slow…Slow is good,' he thought as he felt like he was in pure agony as sweat started to pour down his face.
A Chinese star flew through the area and Aqualad flung his body into it, as to avoid the doctor getting hit by it. "She's here, get down!" Aqualad yelled as the doctor had risen up from her seat in fear and tried to run, only for another star to be thrown her way. Aqualad growled as he flung his body into the other star and got stabbed in the chest by another star.
"Ooh, that had to hurt," she said in amusement, though her voice was quiet due to the mask on her face.
"Atlantean skin is quite dense," he said darkly as he plucked the stars from his body and got out his two weapons from behind his back. His tattoo's lit up a vibrant blue color as the two weapons started to form into two blue blades.
"And my shurikens are quite poisoned…" She trailed on as she jumped away from an attack from Aqualad.
'We are under attack at the computer lab!' Aqualad thought furiously as he avoided another attack from the masked assassin.
'On our way!' Artemis yelled as she got her bow ready for an attack as she started to run down one of the halls. Miss Martian was following her until she heard a steady banging from the pool room. She flew down to the room and unlocked the door that had held Kid Flash prisoner.
"Thanks, babe," he said sweetly before running down the hallway at his top speed, Miss Martian hovered behind him.
As the assassin swept the legs from under Aqualad, she threw a knife towards the doctor, only to have it swiped away by a water whip.
"Poison slowing you down?" She asked as she got in the face of the young hero. Aqualad quickly got up and faced the robed girl.
"Jelly fish poison. Largely immune," he said as he narrowed his eyes, much to the annoyance of the girl. She kicked him down on the ground, she drew a knife on him.
"Largely…" She said as she lowered the knife slowly, about to impale the man. However, a green arrow knocked the knife from her hand.
Artemis stood in the doorway with her bow drawn back, waiting for another arrow to be released, "Don't move," she ordered as she narrowed her eyes.
The assassin let out a chuckle, "This gig is getting interesting…" She said as she unsheathed a sword as she twirled it around in her hands, preparing herself for a fight. At that moment the rest of the Team assembled, and all took offensive positions towards the assassin. Kid Flash stood in front of the doctor protectively, along with Miss Martian by his side. Danny hovered into the room, holding his chest, while one of the walls soon found itself submerged in water and Alice walked into the room, a deathly glare on her face as she eyed the assassin. "Maybe a bit too interesting…" She said as she released a smoke bomb.
Kid Flash charged towards her, only for him to collide with Artemis on the other side of the room. He let out a small yelp as he quickly got off the green clothed girl. "Gone!" He yelled in frustration.
"She's getting away! You're letting her get away!" The doctor yelled out, much to the displeasure of Aqualad, who was standing right next to her.
"This is all your fault!" Kid Flash yelled to Artemis, "You were on perimeter!"
Alice took this moment to walk towards the group, "We need to focus on the matter at hand. Instead of blaming who was at fault, we should concentrate on how to progress from here," she said in annoyance, clutching her arm in pain, for the angrier she had gotten, the more the curse mark had burned her skin.
"I agree with Hydrowave. We aren't going to get anything done with…Fighting," Danny said as he clutched his chest.
"Danny, are you alright?" Miss Martian asked as she took a step closer to him with her hand outstretched.
Danny nodded his head, "Heartburn is all. Aqualad what should we do?"
Aqualad had just gotten an update from Robin saying that Star Labs had been destroyed, and he closed his eyes to think about their next course of action. "We need to move the doctor."
Artemis and Kid Flash were glaring at each other in annoyance.
'Stop it, both of you,' Aqualad ordered.
'What?' They both asked in annoyance.
'I can hear you glaring at each other,' Aqualad said as he tried to not roll his eyes. He moved throughout the woods, acting as the decoy for the assassin. "Miss Martian, stay in camouflage mode and do a perimeter sweep!" He yelled, hoping to attract the girl in the mask. He was pulled into the tree above him and then quickly got knocked out by two more assassins.
"We should hurry before the Martian returns. I'm not too keen on evening their odds. We end the doctor tonight," the girl in the mask ordered as she hurried into the building where they were keeping the target.
As a fight started to break out between the hero's and the assassins. Kid Flash was fighting one, while Artemis took on another, leaving the masked assassin to deal with Danny and Alice. "Well, isn't this a surprise. I thought I knew you from somewhere…" the masked assassin stated as she held amusement in her voice.
"Cheshire…" Alice stated as she glared. She gathered two water orbs in her hands and clenched her fists, turning them into water swords. "Still working for your father?" She asked as she charged towards the assassin as the masked girl brought out two swords of her own.
"Finally stopped working for yours?" Cheshire asked as she swung at Alice, who skillfully dodged it. She did a cartwheel and had to refrain from growling. Her arm was burning from the amount of anger she was experiencing.
Cheshire blocked an incoming ectoblast from the ghost boy as she made an 'X' formation with her swords. She chuckled as she glanced at the doctor, who hadn't stopped typing on the computer. "As much fun as it is to play with you…" She trailed on as she charged for the doctor, making Alice narrow her eyes as she threw a water sword after her, only for it to miss as Cheshire pounced on the doctor, sending her to the ground.
The doctor's skin turned green and she looked at the masked assassin with a grin on her face. It was at that moment Cheshire knew…She had been dooped.
"You'll never find the doctor!" Miss Martian yelled as she hovered in the air.
"Never is such a long time…" Cheshire said in a bored voice. "Pursuing the target, keep the rest busy!" She yelled as she ran out the door.
Artemis ran after her, "Pursuing the leader, take the rest down," she ordered as she ran out the door after the assassin.
"You are so not the boss of me!" Kid Flash yelled after her.
"Just do it!" She yelled, exasperated.
Alice glanced at Danny as she started to run after Artemis. "Following the newbie," she stated as she soon ran after the girl.
"Alice, wait!" He yelled as he too, ran out the door.
Alice and Danny were now heading to where the real doctor was residing. "That green person is really fast," Danny said as he was flying beside Alice as she was running.
"You surely aren't talking about Artemis, are you?" Alice replied with a scoff. The burn mark on her arm started to burn once again, causing her uniform to be burned in the process. Her eyes went wide as she grabbed her arm, hoping to relieve some of the pain.
"Alice, I know you don't like it, but she's a part of us now," Danny said as he sighed. The 'V' on his chest had started to irritate him again, and didn't show any sign of letting up.
"Whatever," Alice said as she put more pressure on her arm. She flinched at the pain it was giving her.
"I gave you a chance, why can't you give her one?" Danny asked as he shook his head.
Alice's body started to shake with frustration, "Fine!" She snapped as she had grown agitated by the pain and annoyed at Danny's constant bickering.
Danny looked at Alice and had flinched, her eyes were colored a blood red. As soon as they had appeared, they had immediately disappeared when she blinked her eyes and held a hand to her head, she was growing a headache. She sighed as she placed her hand down and stopped running. Danny landed his feet on the ground as he stood beside her. They were on top of the rooftops and looked down at the street. Cheshire ran out of the building and Artemis shot an arrow at her. Her cat mask had fallen off her face and landed on the ground.
"You!" Artemis yelled accusingly and the black haired girl looked at her.
"It's as I thought…They're sisters," Alice mumbled as her eyes narrowed at the two of them.
Danny looked down at the scene being played before him, "Wait, they're sisters?" He asked in confusion.
"And like the Cheshire cat, I'll just disappear," Cheshire said as she backed into the smoke screen she had created.
Alice was standing there one minute, and then forcing Artemis down to the ground with her water scythe. Danny, quickly noticing that Alice had disappeared, flew down to the ground with the two girls. "Hydrowave, stop!" Danny yelled, hoping that she'd come to her senses.
"Make me," she said darkly as her eyes started to glow red, and a strange marking started to appear down her arm like a snake. It had looked like an ancient language of symbols and characters. Danny's eyes grew wide, 'That mark…What is it?' He thought as he blinked his eyes in confusion. "I knew I was right about you. Were you working with her? That would explain why you had let her get away…" Alice darkly said as she lowered the scythe dangerously close to Artemis' neck. The mark on her arm started to travel throughout the rest of her body, burning her uniform as it started to reveal itself.
"I-I…It's not what it looks like!" She yelled in terror.
Alice laughed menacingly, a shiver had run down both Artemis' and Danny's spines. "Do you not understand your position? I. Will. Kill. You. Now, answer the question."
"Alice!" Danny yelled and was next to her in an instant, holding down her weapon, away from its intended target. Alice suddenly looked at him and blinked, her blue eyes once again returning to her. Her weapon disappeared into tiny particles of water as it evaporated into the air, and Alice slowly got up from Artemis.
Artemis looked at the girl who had looked confused, "Alice…? Poseidon's daughter…? No way…" She said as she got up on her elbows.
"Al-"
"Save it," Alice said, interrupting Danny, "I need to be alone," she said as she turned away from the two, and started to walk away from them, and finally disappeared into the air itself.
Danny looked down, "Why am I so stupid..? I should have known something was wrong. How could I not have noticed?" He asked out loud.
"Hydrowave…No, Alice…She needs someone…She's not that little girl anymore…" Artemis trailed on as she stood up. "As for letting Cheshire go…Yes, she is my sister, Slick. Don't go telling anyone, you got that?"
Danny nodded, "I need to head home anyways…My own sister is probably worried…" He said sheepishly as he rubbed the back of his neck nervously. Only, he flinched when he noticed that his hand were burnt. "Her weapon had burned me…"
"That must have been one of the worst days I've had in a long time", Danny said as he scrambled out of the phone booth that was disguised as a zeta tube. A pain throbbed in his chest, and he faintly shook it off. "Great…a pain to make everything better", he said his voice dripping with sarcasm. He put a hand up to his chest as if to comfort himself, he then began to look both ways down the alley way.
He sighed as familiar white wrings showed up and turned him back to Danny Fenton. His vision began to get blurry as he almost lost his footing. "Whoa, that pain must have been worse than I thought".
There was a shuffling behind one of the trash cans, and Danny could only narrow his eyes towards the object to focus his eyesight. "Hello?" He asked as he took a step towards the trash can. There was a bunch of old cans being tossed around, as if someone was frantically trying to hide themselves. "I won't hurt you…just come out so I can see you," he said as he took another step closer, but was met with a high pitched voice in return.
"Stop! I knew this was a mistake…" she said as more cans and boxes were being stepped on. At this, Danny rose and eyebrow.
"I can help you…if you would only let me. I can-"
"You don't understand! You'll hate me! Because…I was never meant to exist!" She yelled, her voice filled with sorrow.
Danny sighed in exhaustion, what was with this girl? "How can I hate you if I've never met you? Just come out, it'll be okay," he said as he took another step, this time not stopping and continuing towards the trash can.
"No! Stay back! Don't look at me!" She yelled, and just as Danny was hovering over the trash can, he saw a small fragile girl. She had dark raven colored hair, much like his own. Her clothes were torn, and she had scars and injuries across her body. She gasped before trying to hide herself in a ball, as if to make herself disappear. But before she could fully cover herself, Danny had caught a glimpse of baby blue eyes…also much like his own.
Danny blinked once, before bending down to the girl, his headache had disappeared, and he smiled gently at the girl. "You look so much like me…what's your name?" He asked the girl, as she was shaking in fear.
"Please don't hurt me, I never meant to…wait, what?" She asked as she slowly looked up at Danny. She looked into his gentle eyes in confusion. "You…aren't going to hurt me?" She asked as she slowly relaxed her body, revealing her torn and tattered clothing.
"Why would I hurt you? I only just met you…Please, what's your name?" Danny asked as the girl only sat there, still shocked.
"My…name? But…he said that you would hurt me…even kill me if I ever ran to you…" The girl trailed off, deep in thought. At this, Danny only laughed.
"Does it really look like I would hurt anyone?" He asked mostly to himself at such an outrageous assumption.
The girl finally looked up again, before she smiled slowly, "I guess…you're right. My name is Danielle…but call me Dani…Please."
"Alright, Dani, now, do you mind telling me how you got here? And in this condition?" He asked as he sat down on the ground fully, his legs were starting to fall asleep.
"Well…where should I start?" Dani asked, as she looked up to Danny.
"From the beginning?" Danny teased.
Dani smiled fondly, "Alright…it all started when I was born…and that was a couple of weeks ago."
"Wait, a couple of weeks ago? Then that means that…"
"Yes…I'm a clone…of you," she said the last part slowly. She looked down at the ground, she didn't want to see his expression.
"Let me guess…Vlad?" Danny asked in a monotone voice. He looked over at Dani, and she slowly nodded her head. "That explains it…please continue."
"Well, Vlad created me, but then…I don't know, it's like he didn't want me…and he even said a few days after my creation that I was a…mistake. I wasn't the 'son' he wanted…he would…try and kill me. Saying things like…I should…just disappear!" She choked out. Tears started rolling down her cheeks leaving a tear trail. The dirt that was on her face started to form mud due to the sudden water. Danny felt his heart throb. That…bastard! How dare he say those things to a child!
"Dani, it's okay, he won't hurt you anymore, I swear he won't," Danny said as he put an arm around Dani's thin body and pulled her close to him. Her thin form had him worried, it was clear that she hadn't eaten much, and she was probably on her last legs.
"He-he would always beat me…and he wouldn't let me eat unless I did crimes…I didn't want to do them! But…But!" Dani cried as she sobbed into Danny's leather jacket. "So…I ran away. He didn't even care! He never did! But, he hunted me down…he said that I was a monster and that I had to be hidden away! And…he…said that if I were to ever run to you for help, that you would blast me to pieces, because…you would hate me…for being you!"
"But you ran to me…he won't ever hurt you again, not while I'm around," Danny said as he pulled Dani closer to him still.
"Danny…but he did hunt me down…again, on my way to find you. He said that I was…an imperfection…and I am! I can't use my ghost powers, or I'll melt into ectoplasm!" She yelled in anguish. "So you see…I don't have much time left…I just wanted to see you…I just wanted to at least meet my original before I become full ghost," she said as she looked up to him.
"Dani, you won't melt, or die, I'm the son of ghost experts, the least I can do is help a ghost in need, especially one that is family," he said as he stood up, surprising Dani.
"F-family?" Dani stuttered the word out, the name feeling unfamiliar to her.
"That's right," he said as he turned back to her and crouched down so that his back was to her. "Climb on," he said as he motioned for her to come with the back of his hand.
"But…I'm not family! I'm just a clone…a mistake!" She yelled in disbelief.
"You're wrong!" Danny yelled suddenly, making Dani gasp. "You're not a clone, you are your own person. Danielle Fenton, you are not a mistake, you are meant to exist because you are a Fenton. And Fenton's stand for family, no matter what the circumstances."
Dani started to smile, a sincere one, before she started to cry. "Thank you, Danny. Thank…you," she said as she crawled to Danny's back and Danny stood up. "Could I…could I be a sister to you…like you could be a brother to me?" She asked as her eyes got tired.
"Don't be silly, Dani, of course. You're the cutest little sister a guy like me could have," he said as he started to walk off. Dani mumbled something before she finally fell asleep. Danny smiled before heading into the city of Gotham and towards Wayne Manor.
"She must have been exhausted," Danny said with a smile as he turned to look at Dani's exhausted face.
"Naturally she would be, escaping from my clutches whenever possible," came a voice from in front of him. Danny quickly looked to the front of him and noticed the one person he didn't want to see, Vlad Plasmius.
"You have a lot of nerve approaching me, Plasmius," Danny said as he spat out the monsters name like it was venom.
"I see you've done such a great job taking care of the mistake, now why don't you hand her to me, hmm?" He asked as he walked closer to Danny, in which Danny narrowed his eyes and refused to move.
"No…you don't deserve her, you don't deserve anybody, you heartless bastard", Danny said as he took a protective stance.
"I believe that was an order, Daniel. Now, give it to me," he said, ignoring Danny's hateful comment. Danny scowled in response.
"And I believe that you truly are a heartless bastard, and no!" He yelled as he was so close to summon some of his ice powers.
"Don't make me be forceful with you, Daniel, I don't want to hurt you," Vlad said as he smirked at the younger boy.
"You have no idea what I'm capable of, Plasmius, I suggest you leave," he said as his body was getting colder, Dani groaned in response. Danny quickly calmed down, he forgot for a split second that he had Dani on his back, and that was careless of him.
"What's wrong, little badger? Scared of hurting it?" He asked in an amused manner.
"Leave," Danny said as his eyes were glowing a bright neon green, he narrowed them at his enemy, who only chuckled at this.
"Come now, Daniel…don't be foolish," he said as his calm demeanor chanced into a dark one. Danny only looked at him, and shot a small ecto-blast at him. The man dodged it and looked away from Danny for a split second, but that was all the time the young halfa needed. He instantly used his teleportation, and teleported inside of Wayne Manor.
"Ah, Master Danny, when had you arrived? I wasn't aware of-" Alfred said as he walked into the entrance way. He stopped talking when he noticed the young girl resting on the back of Danny. "And who is this young woman?"
"Dani…I need some food sent up my room immediately. Along with a first aid kit…" Danny said as he started to go up the stairs, Dani groaned slightly.
"Right away, young master," Alfred said as he took his leave and exited in one of the rooms to the right. Danny hurried to his bedroom and laid Dani down on the bed. He sighed in relief, 'At least I didn't have to deal with that frootloop more than I had to…he was lucky Danielle was there'.
"Danny? Who's that?" Dick asked as he walked into the room with no warning. Danny sighed before running a hand through his sweaty hair.
"Her name's Danielle, she's kind of…um…my sister of sorts," Danny said as he crossed his arms.
"And you just brought her here now? And the shape she's in…Danny, she needs some serious medical attention…" Dick said as he started to walk closer to the bed to observe her. "And she also needs food…what happened?" He asked as he turned from the body and stared at Danny with cold eyes.
"Vlad happened…he hurt her in more ways than one…" Danny said as he looked down at the ground. Dick only nodded in understanding.
"She's your clone, isn't she?" Dick asked as he had a sly smile on his face. Danny quickly looked up with a split second of shock, but then his face returned to normal.
"Of course you would figure it out, us working along side Super Boy for a couple of months now," Danny said more to himself than anyone else.
Dick only smiled teasingly at this, "I'll take that as a compliment."
Alfred knocked on the door, before coming in. He was holding a tray full of dinner, and placed in down on the table beside the bed. He placed the first aid kit on the bed. "Shall I begin dressing her wounds, Master Danny?" He asked.
"No thanks, Alfred", Danny said as he immediately began opening up the first aid kit and began to cover up the bleeding wounds on Dani's body. Alfred nodded and walked out of the room.
"You know, why would Vlad do it? I mean, for what purpose?" Dick asked as he stared at the flower vase on the table across the room. Danny scowled.
"He doesn't need a purpose, aside from making me pissed…what gives him the right to do this to…anybody", Danny said but then trailed off.
"What…?" He asked as he looked up at saw Danny looking at the doorway and saw Bruce and Jazz together with their arms crossed, with cold eyes that demanded that one of the two had better tell them what was going on.
"Oh hey Bruce…Jazz. When did you get back?" Dick said as he awkwardly rubbed the top of his head. He wore a cheeky grin.
"Just now…what is going on, Danny?" Jazz asked as she walked into the room to look at the girl, Bruce did the same.
"This is a clone of you made by Vlad isn't it?" Bruce asked as he crossed his arms. Jazz gasped and then looked at Danny in surprise.
"Uh…yeah…but I have to take care of her, Bruce! Vlad will just find her and kill her! I can protect her if she stays here!" Danny yelled in protest.
Jazz walked closer to the bed and placed a hand between the strands of her hair. "So, she's like a little sister…?" She looked closer at her face before finally smiling. Tears sprung from her eyes, and she used her other hand to wipe them away.
"Jazz…I know, it was a surprise to me, too", Danny said as he smiled, before looking at Bruce with pleading eyes. He mouthed the words, 'please'.
Bruce sighed, "Alright, Danny, make sure to protect her. Family is important, always keep that in mind."
Everyone in the room smiled, just as Dani started to wake up. She blinked a few times, before slowly sitting up. She looked at everyone confused, but when her eyes fell on Danny she smiled.
"Danny? Who…are these people?" She asked as she blinked a few times again. She then focused on Jazz, who was playing with her hair. 'That…feels really good,' she thought.
Jazz noticed Dani staring at her, before she finally brought her hand away. "I'm sorry…you don't even know me…I'm Jazz, your older sister", Jazz said as she smiled.
"I…have a sister? Cool!" Dani yelled in excitement. She then looked over at Dick and his face turned red.
"I'm Dick…kind of like a step-brother in a way," He said as he turned away from the girl. Bruce smiled teasingly at him, Dick noticed this and glared at him before finally walking out of the room.
"Hello, Danielle, I'm Bruce, I'll be looking after you while you're here," he said as he smiled at her, she smiled back.
"Cool! You can just call me Dani if you want though," Dani said as her stomach growled. Danny smiled before bringing the tray of food over to her, in which she was gazing at it with temptation.
"You can eat it, it's not going to jump out at you," Danny said teasingly. Dani's face grew red.
"I-I know Danny, but It's just that…I've never been given this much food before at a time," she said as she looked down at the plate again.
"You better get used to it then, Danielle, around here, they feed you like royalty!" Jazz said as she patted the top of Dani's head fondly.
"Really?!" Dani said with excitement.
"Yeah, Dani! And you should see the kind of things that are hidden around here!" Danny said, giving subtle hints about the Bat Cave, but of course Dani wouldn't be able to catch onto that. Dani's eyes were lit with excitement.
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves, kids. Now, I will be retiring for the night, don't stay up too late," Bruce said as he exited the room, closing the door behind him.
The rest of the night, the trio talk about the Fenton's, their past, and what will come in Dani's future. Dani had been the happiest during that time, for she finally had people she could call her family, not only that, but a big brother who could teach her more about her ghostly half, and that was something she was looking forward to…that, and also school. She had no worries in the world that night, not even her creator, Vlad Plasmius.
Reviews:
KodiakWolfe13: I think Deathstroke and Vlad just want the same thing, though Vlad likes the mental abuse way, rather than physical abuse like Deathstroke. The Mac and cheese is life. That would be a weird plot twist if they were brothers. Though, I think Deathstroke could be old enough to be Vlad's father, possibly grandfather. Dude. Starbucks. The best place in the world.
Jebest4781: Thanks! Jazz will have a big part next chapter, where she'll have a nice long talk with Harley.
Darkverger1: Thank you! Glad you like it so far!
NicoCheesediPizzaAngelo: Drop bears just seem so thug. Yup, it's basically like the plot from teen titans, only except I think Slade seemed to be too kind, whereas Deathstroke just kind of doesn't care, and is more tactical in his approaches. Those are some good ideas.
Readthishit: Haha. It was pretty long. I hear they'll be doing a crossover with Teen Titans Go, but I'm not too sure. Just rumors. I wish they would be making another season for Danny Phantom.
A/N: And that's the chapter. Next chapter hopefully next month, but that's when I have mid terms. Hopefully I can upload, if not, expect a delay. Have a wonderful day, you guys!
