David Vega put the car in park. He let out a sigh, and turned off the car. Turning to his left, he looked at one of his passengers. Jade West. A girl that had proven to be a thorn in the side of his daughter's, and even Robbie's side over the years. But because today's circumstances, he couldn't help but offer the young woman a ride.
It was the last thing he could do.
"Jade… I…"
"Look, Mr. Vega." She interrupted the cop. "Um… thanks…" She unbuckled herself and opened the car door. She glanced back at Tori's dad. And even if she knew that Mr. Vega played an integral part of her rescue, and even if she finally befriended both Tori and reconnected with Robbie, she couldn't let him know, or anyone know that her old behavior changed. "What happened with Tori and Robbie… it sucks. And I hope you get them back, but…" Jade let out a breath. "Thanks…"
That said, she gave Lola a knowing glance which only got answered with a silent nod. She looked bad at David Vega and gave him an unspecifically neutral glance. "Thanks…"
Jade closed the door and headed back to her house.
David let out a breath. He didn't expect anything less. Glancing at Lola, he asked, "Are you sure you don't know anything about what happened with Robbie and Tori?"
And her heart broke. David Vega had all the classic symptoms of a concerned father. Pain came from his voice, grief, sadness. All the classic emotions that would transpire from something like the unannounced departure of his youngest daughter and his pseudo-adoptive son. Lola wanted to let him know that she did know the truth of what happened. But like Jade told her. If she really wanted to help Tori and Robbie right now, she can't let anyone know what was going on. "I don't…" Her voice was laced in concern. "I'm sorry…"
"That's okay…" He said simply. He turned back to the driving wheel and was about to start the ignition.
"Um… Mr. Vega?" Lola said, bringing his attention back to the young woman. "I… tomorrow… I have to go back to PCA. I mean, if I could, I would stay… but…"
David interrupted her. "It's okay, Lola. I'm glad you were able to able to come. And I'm glad that Tori and Robbie had you to come to while they were at PCA and even here. What's going on now is not affecting any way my wife and I feel about you. You are a concerned friend, and as soon as we hear anything about them, we'll let you know."
"Thanks…" Lola whispered as he turned back to the wheel and reignited the ignition. She watched as he put the car in reverse and drove back to the Vega house in silence.
Holly Vega let out a breath as she collapsed on the couch.
The waiting was aggravating.
After David hung the phone up on her, she was left with nowhere to go. It had been a great amount of time since she last talked with him, and still nothing, She wanted to talk to her husband, but he wouldn't hear it. So, he just hung up on her. Holly tried to call back,, but whenever she tried to get in touch with him, he would ignore her call and it would leave her with no conclusion to their recent conversation.
So, the only thing that she could do now was wait until he got home. Which also meant that since she never got him on the phone again, she didn't know when that would be. Not to mention, that the departure of her children was still fresh on her mind. All four of them. Tori and Trina were gone. Robbie was conjoined to Tori she fathomed, and Sarah was actually back at PCA. All four of them. Even the children that she didn't create…
Holly Vega was in a state of uncertainty .
"Mom…"
With the constant growing of confusion, Holly Vega had no recollection of putting out a call to her eldest…
"Mom…" The voice tried again. This time, the octave was slightly higher. "Mom?"
Trina's voice finally broke her out of the vastly approaching turmoil she was facing. "Trina?"
"Mom… are you okay?" She asked, concerned.
Due to the constant despair of her neglection, Holly lost all track of time. "When did I call you?" She asked herself, trying to figure out the moment when she actually did dial her daughter. Her eyes narrowed in frustration, trying to remember how this happened. But all she got back was a wave of confusion.
"Mom…" Her voice said slowly over the phone.
She shook her head. "I'm sorry, Trina." Clarity started to finally come through; albeit slowly. Holly let out a breath… "God…" Holly whispered. "When did this get so fucked up?"
"Fucked up?" The voice asked, shocked. Especially when it came from the lips of her mother.
"Tori gone… Robbie gone… you're gone…" Her voice listed, still in the same tone. "This family is falling apart…"
"Mom!" Trina shouted. Snapping her mother out of her funk. "What are you talking about? What happened? Aunt Sonya told me that Tori and Robbie left. I wanted to call earlier, but I was busy with the chores. It was too much today too. Shaving sheep… herding cattle…"
"Trina…" Holly said, bringing herself into focus. Taking a look at her watch, she finally noticed the time. "It's been two hours, Trina. Two hours since we lost Tori and Robbie."
"How could you lose them?" Trina asked. Fear starting to enter her frame of mind.
"It all started…"
Trina interrupted her. "I mean, I talked to Tori this morning… she seemed fine then…."
"Tori called you?" She asked, shocked. Dropping the last thought she was trying to make. "What she say?"
"She seemed okay, Mom. She told me about getting engaged to Robbie. She told me that they were putting the actual wedding off until much later…" And then something sparked in her mind as she relayed this morning's events. "She did call me because she felt something bad was going to happen."
"Something bad…" Holly whispered. That would explain why Tori was so off this afternoon.
"You don't think leaving home is what she meant, do you?" Trina asked. "When we talked, leaving home was the farthest thing from her mind.
"I don't know. It could be…" She said softly. "Or it could be the fact that she and the others were held hostage." Letting out that remark, she couldn't help but remember what her husband said earlier too…
One thing Trina didn't need to know about…
"Wow, Tori really got screwed up today, huh?" Trina stated simply. "Her and Robbie…"
"And they both ran away…"
Trina let out a breath… "And I thought I had it bad…"
Holly was lost in thought that she failed to notice the door opening. Her eyes lost focus on what she had last thought and was unaware of the door opening behind her. "Holly?"
Holly turned around and noticed her husband standing in front of her. Behind him, Lola could be seen ascending the stairs as well. "Are you okay?" When she didn't answer, he took the phone from his wife. Bringing it to his ear, he greeted, :"Hello?"
"Dad. What's going on? I was talking to mom and then it all went silent…"
David looked at his wife who just stared in front of her. "Um, Trina… I'll call you back…" He then hung up. "Holly?"
Holly Vega glanced back at her husband. "Are you okay?"
"They're gone…" Holly finally said.
"I know, Baby…" He confirmed. David took his hand and made his way to the couch. "Tori and Robbie are gone. And we will get them back."
"But how?" She asked. "We have no idea where they are. Trina, Lola… Beck… Sarah. None of them know."
"We also have one thing that we are not focusing on." Holly looked at him in confusion.
"They're teenagers. They can't do much on their own. They could possibly find a place to sleep tonight. They could even try to make a go at this. But once they use their phones, once they use anything electronic, we can track them. Then, we can get them." He told her. "I'm a cop. I can get my whole unit looking for them. They're not going to get far."
She sighed, finally getting a satisfactory answer. "This whole thing, David. This whole thing…. It's…"
"Batshit crazy." He chuckled.
Holly smirked. "Trina made me realize something when we were talking. Tori, Robbie… yes they keep attaching to Yerba. But we aren't thinking about what's been going on post Yerba.:"
David nodded…. "Tori's sanity…"
"Robbie's parents, getting kicked out of Hollywood Arts, going to separate schools, hospital visits, being held hostage, Tori's near rape… and that's just the stuff we know of. I'm sure there is more to what they're going through." Holly clarified. "No wonder they latch on to each other…"
"Constant fights with your parents…" Holly snapped her face around.
"David, they have to realize that they can't keep focusing on each other. That they can't block out the world. They have to…"
"They need help." He told her. "Help that you and I can't give them. Help that doesn't separate them either. Sure, they need to understand the danger they keep putting themselves in. But together, they can still get the help. And just hope that they can learn to deal with the lives they want to live. Just together."
Holly sighed…
"I know…"
"And I'll track them down. They can't get far." David told her.
"Let's just hope so…"
TBC in Chapter 4
I'm sorry this took too long to get out. And even if it appears too short, but I wanted to get a parents chapter done before we head back to the RORI Goodness. I love writing those two crazy kids together. It makes their chapters so much easier to write.
It's just sometimes it takes too long to write non RORI chapters. I hope this doesn't happen again in the future. If it does, I'll try to keep those chapters more determined to be written.
Thanks for reading.
