The Firebird
Chapter 10
Pairing: Elsa/OC

Once Anna had told Kristoff that Elsa and Jaymen were together, Kristoff had immediately gone off to find Jaymen. He found her later that day in the library. Jaymen, as usual was curled up with a book. She normally was cooped up in Elsa's study, but recently it was distracting for Jaymen to be there, so when Elsa needed to get paperwork and whatnot done, Jaymen usually left her alone.
"So, what happened to that 'fire and ice don't mix' thing huh?" Jaymen rolled her eyes without looking up at Kristoff.
"I decided to screw that and let myself be happy for once." Kristoff clapped Jaymen on the shoulder.
"I'm glad you decided to stay. Did you tell Elsa about.. You know." Jaymen nodded.
"I did. She took it rather well considering everything." The ice harvester grinned.
"I told you she'd be accepting of it. Elsa isn't one to be closed minded about things. And once she likes you, there's little that you can do to make her un-love you." Jaymen smiled.
"I suppose you're right. Although I think the more fun part is going to be telling Anna." Kristoff laughed.
"You're probably right. Anna is probably going to have a fit. You know how much she loves the idea of the Firebird." Jaymen nodded. She did. Anna had a fairly large curiosity with the Firebird. She'd talk about it all the time, spouting off theories of who or what it could be. Jaymen was half looking forward to telling her, and half not. But she knew she'd have to. It was unfair to her that Kristoff and Elsa knew, but she didn't.
"I'll tell her when I get the time." Jaymen glanced at the clock and saw that it was about time for lunch. She had planned to have lunch with Elsa in her study, so she quickly excused herself from the library. As she left, Kristoff gave her a knowing look and smile.
Jaymen hurried off to Elsa's study, in which she knocked on the door before entering. Jaymen could see Elsa absorbed in paperwork, so she quietly shut the door and proceeded to walk over to her usual chair.
"So, how's your day been so far?" Elsa groaned.
"Ugh, please don't ask." Jaymen chuckled.
"Not that good I gather then?" Elsa shook her head.
"It's not that." Elsa blushed. Jaymen looked at Elsa's face.
"Are you going to tell me? Or am I going to have to guess?" Elsa rubbed the back of her neck, sheepishly.
"I may have spent most of my time wishing you were back here with me." Jaymen laughed.
"You do know, the reason that I left you in peace was so you would get some work done. Not so you could daydream about me. Although I'm flattered."
"I didn't mean to! It's not my fault you're so.. beautiful and irresistible that I can't keep my mind off of you." Jaymen looked at Elsa with mock hurt.
"Well, you're not suggesting that it's my fault are you? It's certainly not my fault that I'm just that naturally gifted." Jaymen said with an air of confidence. Elsa just laughed.
"How about we both agree that it was no one's fault and just agree that leaving me alone doesn't really help, so you don't need to anymore." Jaymen nodded.
Relaxing in her chair, Jaymen once again opened the book of Arendelle's history and started thumbing through it while Elsa finally started to actually get her paperwork done. However, they were soon interrupted by a knock at the study door.
"Come in." Elsa called out to whomever was on the other side. Kai was the one to open the door with a tray of food for the two women. He set them on a small table in the room. Elsa thanked Kai for their lunch, the old servant bowed to the queen and exited the study.
Elsa stood from her desk to go sit in a chair near Jaymen. "Is Arendelle's history really all that interesting?" Jaymen looked up at Elsa.
"It may not seem interesting to you, since you've lived here your entire life. But I've traveled around so much, seen so many different places and cultures, and never actually closely studied a specific culture, it's interesting for me. Besides, I do have other incentives to learn about Arendelle now that I'll be sticking around a while." Jaymen winked at Elsa, who blushed.
"Well, I'm glad you're staying." Elsa whispered.
Jaymen noticed Elsa's vulnerable tone. She shut her book and set it on the table. She took one of Elsa's hands in hers, interlocking their fingers. "So am I." Jaymen gave Elsa a small smile which the blonde queen returned.
"I just.. I want to explore this. I'm just afraid." Jaymen looked at Elsa quizzically.
"Afraid of what?"
"Myself. My insecurities I guess. I'm almost embarrassed to admit them. But I can't help but think I won't be enough for you to want to stay." Jaymen looked at Elsa, with her eyes full of sympathy. She leaned closer to the blonde and gave her a quick kiss. She rested her forehead against Elsa's and took her other hand.
"There's nothing that will make me leave you, as long as you want me around. I promise you that."
"You promise?" Jaymen chuckled.
"Cross my heart." Elsa leaned in to kiss the Firebird. And then drug her into a hug, which Jaymen happily returned.
There was a knock at the door, and the two immediately separated. Trying to straighten themselves out, the door opened to reveal Anna on the other side, who poked her head in. She looked at the two females with a knowing look.
"Not interrupting anything am I?" She asked with a smirk on her face, knowing full well that she had.
"Well from what I can see, you don't care that you did." Jaymen fired back. Anna just laughed.
"No, not really. But you did want me to remind you about that training session you have today." Jaymen glanced at the clock and nodded to Anna.
"Thanks for reminding me Anna. I'll be there in about 15 minutes if you want to watch." Anna nodded.
"Okay! Well, I'll leave you two alone to continue.. whatever you were doing." Anna winked and shut the door. Elsa turned to Jaymen with a confused look. Jaymen was quick to answer that look.
"Training session. I may be secretly courting the Queen, but I still need to keep in shape. The guards saw me one morning and invited me to join in on their training. Personally I think they just want to see the extent of my skill so they can counter if I became a threat. Not that I am, but still. It's what they do." Elsa nodded. "And you're welcome to observe if you wish."
"I may, I'm not getting any work done anyways." Jaymen laughed.
"Well, as you heard, 15 minutes in the guard's training arena. I need to go change into something a little more suitable. Maybe I'll see you there." Jaymen kissed Elsa on the cheek and stood to leave the room. Elsa grabbed Jaymen wrist and pulled the girl down to her and brought their lips together.
"What was that for? Not that I'm complaining." Elsa smiled.
"Thank you. For staying." Jaymen nodded.
"I have feelings for you Elsa. Never doubt that."
Hans was sitting in his tent at their new camp. This time he brought fewer men. He didn't need that many. He just needed a couple to enact his plan. He'd learned of the brunette's relationship to Elsa through one of his many spies within Arendelle's castle. He figured that by capturing this girl that he could force Elsa to hand over the kingdom. And falling short of that, he could just kill them both and take the kingdom by force.
His forces had grown since the last time he'd tried to take Arendelle. He had more than enough support to get the kingdom once Elsa was out of the picture. Right now, she was a rallying point. She could pull everyone together against him. Once she was gone, all the cards would be in his hand. Anna was a negligible distraction. She may have gotten the better of him, but it was always with the help of either her sister or that stupid brunette that had wormed her way into the royal family.
He took a small dagger out of his bag, along with a vial of a blue, smoking liquid. One of his.. associates had sent him this to eliminate the brunette. He'd also found out about the true nature of the brunette girl, describing her power to his associate. Needless to say he was originally disheartened to hear of her powers, but with this vial he'd be able to dispatch her with ease.
He uncorked the vial and poured the contents of the vial into a wooden bowl. Then he dipped the small dagger into the liquid. The metal immediately frosted over and started smoking. When he took the dagger out of the bowl, the dagger returned to it's original appearance and temperature, however it had a small insignia in the metal, in the shape of a black, spiky snowflake.
Hans looked at the dagger, then stuck it into this boot. It was almost time to put his plan into action.
Jaymen had changed into an outfit similar to when she 'fought' Anna. A pair of cutoffs, her boots and a breast wrap when she stepped into the training arena. Many of the guards gawked at her physique, but she didn't really care. She knew it was abnormal to see a woman in so little clothing, but then again, nothing about her was really normal.
Anna and Elsa were sitting together on a bench, chatting. The brunette smiled. She could see that the two sisters really were very close. She admired the sight, although she sadly thought back to Bella. She would have to track her down and say hi at some point. If things went well with Elsa, perhaps even bring her along.
Elsa glanced over and noticed Jaymen standing there. And then she noticed the guardsmen staring at her, open mouthed. She felt a little bit of jealously spike within her. She didn't like the looks the men were giving her girl. 'Her girl?' Elsa thought to herself. Since when did I think of her as mine? Elsa shook the thought off as Jaymen approached the men.
"I believe I owe you men a butt kicking?" The guards laughed at her.
"I say this with respect, but are you really so confident that you believe you could beat us in hand to hand combat? We do have the upper hand, after all." Jaymen grinded her teeth at the guard captain. She hated when men thought they were all that when they didn't have the skill nor power to back that claim up. But instead, she just looked innocently at the captain.
"I'm not entirely sure, but you wished for me to try, so what have I got to lose?" Elsa giggled at Jaymen, knowing full well she was lulling the guards into a false sense of security. Anna nudged her sister and laughed as well.
"They're really in for a surprise aren't they?" Anna whispered.
"Indeed they are." Elsa agreed.
Back in the arena, Captain Jorde motioned for one of his men to step forward. He was of medium height and looked a little weaker than most of the other men. Jaymen observed who she assumed was going to be her first opponent and sized him up. "Let's see how you do with Eldridge." The man turned to Jaymen and bowed. Jaymen returned the bow and they two started circling one another. This was similar to Jaymen's bout with Anna, no weapons or outside help, man to man, or in this case man to woman. Jaymen was a patient fighter, waiting for her opponent to make the first move.
Eldridge seemed to tire of simply circling the brunette, so he jabbed a fist at Jaymen's head, just testing the waters. Jaymen just ducked out of the way, avoiding the fist. A few more jabs later, Jaymen realized Eldridge was both testing her as well as egging her to jab back at him. Instead she threw a kick to his shin that he was unprepared for. He let his guard down for a split second and that was enough for Jaymen to take advantage of. It gave her a window of opportunity to lunge at the man. He was only slightly larger than she was, so she grabbed hold of his legs behind the knees and pulled. He slipped and fell to the ground on his back, where she proceeded to pin his shoulders to the ground.
The onlookers, guards and royals alike, were stunned by the performance of the female. When the shock wore off, Jorde recovered himself first. "Well done. It looks like you've won this round, My Lady." She nodded her head in affirmation as she got off of Eldridge and offered her hand to him to help the man off the ground. He took it and got to his feet. He bowed to her and offered, "I was not expecting a woman to be so aggressive. I find that rather respectable." He dipped his head against before he walked over to the rest of the guards, who clapped him on the back, and laughingly mocked him for losing to a female. He just shook his head. "I bet all of you would probably fare the same." The rest of the guards just laughed.
"Eldridge, you know you're the lowest on the totem pole here. She may have beat you with ease, but there's no way she could beat the rest of us." Jaymen overheard the conversation. She felt both sympathetic for Eldridge because he was very respectful of her, and steamed at the other guards who were still arrogant as ever.
"If you men are so confident, why don't you come find out for yourselves? Instead of picking on the guy that actually was in the arena with me."
While the guards decided which of them would go and teach the brunette a lesson, Elsa and Anna still sat on the side of the arena, observing the training. Elsa had to admit, Jaymen was quite skilled in hand to hand combat. She supposed that came from her fire powers and chaining them into close combat. But whatever it was, it was both attractive and comforting. Elsa didn't think she, nor Jaymen needed protection, but she couldn't help but think in the back of her mind that if the need ever arose, Jaymen would be quite capable of handling things.
While Elsa was musing with her thoughts, a rather large, burly man that went by the name, Adrian stepped forward. "I'll take you on myself. Perhaps you'll learn your place. You may be able to defeat our weakest link, but you'll never be able to stand up to the best." Jaymen just snorted. She had seen and fought worse. Adrian was a good 7 inches taller than her, standing about 6 ft. He was a muscled man that looked like he lifted horses for a workout daily. But none of that intimidated Jaymen. In fact, it made it even more of a challenge and therefore more exciting.
"I'm sure you'll try your best." Jaymen dipped her head for a bow, while Adrian just smirked at the girl. He would show her that not all Arendelle men were as weak as Eldridge. He'd teach her that the Arendelle guard were entirely capable of protecting the Queen. They didn't need some upstart doing their job. He was still bitter that Jaymen had been the one to save the Queen, and not the guard. Jorde didn't show it, but he was thinking the same. While he recognized that the girl had done them a service by rescuing the princess and saving the Queen, he didn't believe she was necessary and was looking forward to seeing her flat on the back.
Adrian was circling Jaymen, who was closely watching her opponent's movements, trying to get a feel of how he'd probably fight. He had a larger reach than Jaymen, so she was sure to keep her fists and forearms protecting her head and upper torso. Quickly though Adrian threw a punch straight at her, she ducked it and returned to her defensive position. The male just laughed, "What's wrong little lady? Afraid to take on your betters?" Jaymen clenched her fists tighter, but didn't respond. He was trying to get under her skin, to make her mess up.
Once again, he threw a punch and this time she stepped back, causing him to lose balance for a slight second. He recovered quickly enough that Jaymen couldn't take advantage of it, but it gave her insight into his fighting style. He fought hard and fast. He relied on his size and power to throw hard punches to incapacitate his opponent quickly. But if someone avoided him for long, he would get tired easily and make more mistakes. A few punches and jabs later, Adrian still had yet to come in contact with his opponent. He realized what she was doing, simply dodging and avoiding his attempts so he would tire quickly. He needed to end this quickly. He suddenly dropped his arms into an outstretched position and rushed at Jaymen. He planned on grabbing her smaller frame and simply forcing it to the ground, face in the dirt so to speak, where she belonged.
But in an almost inhuman display of speed, she raised a bent elbow up and smashed it right into the larger man's nose, quite hard. Adrian didn't really realize what happened until he felt a spike of pain shoot through his face. Jaymen grabbed the man's hair and forced him to the ground. It was a strange sight to see. A female, 7 inches shorter than her opponent, bringing one of the best Arendelle guards to their knees in the arena. Blood dripped out of his nose onto the floor, while he was down on his knees, one hand cupping his nose.
With his free hand he pointed at Jaymen, "You made me bleed, bitch." Jaymen just shrugged.
"If you can't handle a bloody nose, I don't know how you're an Arendelle guard." Adrian just growled, but said nothing. The rest of the guards were again stunned. She had beaten their best, save Jorde who was their captain. And speaking of the captain, the man was standing, observing the girl. He had to admit, the girl was strong, as well as a smart fighter. He gave her that much credit. That didn't change his mind about her, but he gave credit where it was due.
"Correct you are. Adrian, you faced the same fate as Eldridge did to our guest. You'd do best to remember that." Jorde gave his guard a hard look. Adrian acknowledged the look and shut his mouth. Jaymen offered her hand to Adrian to help him off the ground. But the man rudely refused; standing on his own and storming off to his quarters to clean himself up. "I think that is enough for today. Thank you for joining us, My Lady." Jorde bowed to Jaymen, who returned the gesture.
The men all went their separate ways, save Eldridge, who approached Jaymen. "You certainly are something." Jaymen gave him a genuine smile.
"I'm nothing really that special. I just grew up in a harsh environment and you learn quickly to protect yourself." Jaymen shrugged.
"Well, you've certainly impressed the men. Adrian aside, they all think you've proven yourself as a combatant. I hope you'll join us more often." Eldridge stated.
"I'll certainly consider it, if I'm wanted back." Eldridge just nodded.
"I may be the lowest of the low in the group, but I know everyone else would love to try their luck." Jaymen laughed.
"I'll keep that in mind. Thank you Eldridge, you're a good man." Jaymen held a hand out which Eldridge shook. He bowed his head and also left the arena.
Suddenly a blur of red hair rushed up to her and enveloped her in a giant bear hug. "Oh my gods Jaymen, that was so awesome! Where did you learn moves like that? I mean, you must have been taking it easy on me. But don't think that just because you're a total badass that I still can't kick your butt. Because I can. It might just take some more effort." Jaymen laughed.
"Don't worry Anna, you won't need to kick my butt." Anna looked at Jaymen sternly.
"I'd better not. Because if I have to, you're in for the butt kicking of your life!" Jaymen smiled.
"Of course I am." Anna sighed.
"I think my sister wants to talk to you, so I'll leave you two lovebirds alone." Jaymen blushed a little as Anna skipped out of the arena. Elsa was still sitting on the bench, waiting for her sister to finish with Jaymen. When she had, Jaymen walked over and sat next to Elsa. She began trying to wipe the sweat from her body. Her forehead, upper arms and torso were drenched in it.
"So, what did you think?" Elsa looked at Jaymen.
"I thought that it was reckless, stupid and.." Elsa paused, "very attractive. I knew you were good, but watching you fight, that was definitely something else."
"Like I said, I grew up knowing that I would have to deal with tough things. I needed to perfect my fighting style to take down any enemy. Because you never know what's coming." Elsa leaned over to Jaymen and whispered in her ear.
"Don't worry about the sweat, I find it strangely attractive." She dipped her head lower and kissed Jaymen's neck, to which the brunette responded with a low moan. Elsa just giggled.
"Well, I probably should do clean up, I'll see you at dinner?" Elsa nodded.
"Of course you will."
Jaymen was walking through the gardens to her room, when she sensed a presence in the gardens with her. She called out, "Anna? Elsa? That you?" When no one responded, she put up her guard. Suddenly a hand flew out of nowhere and hit her in the back of the neck, hard. Had she not been a supernatural creature, she would probably be dead or at least severely injured from a hit like that. Instead it caused her to fall to the ground and black out of a second.
When she recovered, someone was holding her hands behind her back. Whoever it was, was strong because she couldn't break his grip. And she was still too dazed to use her powers. She looked up and saw Hans smirking at her. "Hans, what are you doing here?" He laughed.
"I don't think you're in a position to be asking the questions, but I'll be generous and answer you. I'm here to take what is mine. And you'll be helping me. I knew you were close to the royals, especially Elsa."
"I'll never help you." Jaymen spat at him. Hans just chuckled again.
"Oh Firebird, you don't have a choice in the matter." Jaymen's eyes widened at his address of her. "Oh yes, I know who you are. Or rather what you are. I suppose it's rather fitting that one freak falls for another. All that much easier for me to kill of both of you." Hans pulled a dagger out of his boot. Jaymen just snorted.
"If you really know what I am, you'll know that even if you kill me, you won't be rid of me."
"Oh I know, however, I also know that if I kill you now, you won't be reborn for close to another 500 years. However, I plan to rid the world of you, filth." Hans grabbed ahold of Jaymen's shoulder and much like he had before, ran the dagger into Jaymen's side. But this time there was a chill that ran through her body, in addition to the pain she felt. Hans looked triumphant, and he was so distracted by his victory, he didn't notice Eldridge sneak onto the scene. He had been wandering the castle, as he was off guard duty and heard a commotion in the gardens. When he saw Jaymen on her knees, being held by an unknown man, with another holding a bloody dagger, he assumed the worst.
He was a guard of Arendelle, it was his duty to protect those who resided in the castle. So he snuck over to his new acquaintance, sword drawn. While the red haired man and the other black haired male who was holding Jaymen were distracted, he rushed over to the three. He slammed the pommel of his sword into Hans' head and he collapsed immediately. Jaymen was surprised by Eldridge's appearance, but she wasn't complaining. She had enough power to summon her fire to burn the hands of the man holding her, who let go to her with a yelp, before Eldridge, again bashed the flat of his sword into his head, knocking him out cold. Jaymen had collapsed from using her powers while she was that weak. Her blood dripped from the wound, as Eldridge knelt down to her. "I.. What do you want me to do My Lady?"
"Get.. Elsa.." Jaymen said before she blacked out.
A/N: WOW! Seems like a while since I've updated. Looks like another month went by of writer's block. But I finally manage to bang this out. I think this is the longest chapter I've written for it, and honestly, I'm pretty proud of myself. Plot line progression, a little fluff, and pairing progression. All in all a successful chapter.
Well here is where the story really picks up into what Hans is up to and what Elsa and Jaymen are going to do about it. Rest of the story is probably going to mostly plot. Frankly, there's only really enough story left for one, maybe two chapters. However, I do have a sequel planned, which to be honest, picks up right where I leave off. I've been considering if I want to write it as a sequel, or just as part of this story. It doesn't really matter I suppose. If anyone has any opinion, just leave it in a review or whatever.
But yeah, the rest of at least this storyline will be easy to write, so this should be updated again fairly soon, so keep an eye out for it. As usual, not beta'd so all mistakes are mine. Little OOC Elsa I suppose, but didn't I warn you of that in the beginning? Oh and song choice for at least the guard training scene to the end is Heavy Crown - Iggy Azalea ft. Ellie Goulding. I like Iggy Igs, sue me. I listened to that song on repeat while writing the end. I'd had the beginning bits written for a while, but I just couldn't figure out a segway into the plotline. So I decided on what I did.
Until next time
