I own nothing!
She never intended for something like this to happen. Why would she? She just had broken down in front of her ex-fiancé, finding out that he had kept her engagement ring.
Why did he do that? She had asked herself that multiple times but never seemed to find a satisfying answer.
After Lorelai had come home, she had sat down to watch some TV, but there only seemed to be romantic movies on; exactly what she didn't need right now.
She sighed, getting up to get something to eat. That was when she heard a knock on the door.
She slowly made her way towards the door; wondering who it could be. She opened the door and almost closed it again.
She was shocked.
There he was, standing in front of her, at her house.
He looked tired, even more than he did just a couple of hours ago, his normally bright blue eyes looking sad and kind of emotionless.
He looked horrible.
"Hey," Luke said.
"Hi," Lorelai answered, motioning him to come in.
They went into the living room with Lorelai sitting down cross-legged on the big armchair, opposite to the couch where Luke had sat down.
"I wouldn't have come here, but I don't know who else to turn to and you're already kind of in this thing," Luke began explaining.
"I get it Luke. I'm here, even though… even though we broke up, I still care…" Lorelai shut up before she would say something he might regret later.
"Thank you," Luke smiled at her gratefully. "It's just so overwhelming. Everything had been so good and then one thing destroys it all."
Lorelai looked down at her lap. He said it had been good. Had he moved on? Because she had felt extremely awful since their breakup.
He couldn't still love her, could he?
This thought shocked her. Lorelai hadn't allowed herself to even think about him in so long. It hurt too much. But, he wasn't here to discuss their relationship; he was here because he needed her and so she decided to focus on Luke's problems instead of on her own. He needed her. As. A. Friend.
"What is it that YOU want?" Lorelai asked him after a while.
"I don't want her to get an abortion. If she decides to keep it, I will help her. I just want to support her, no matter what. I can only imagine how she must feel now…" Luke said honestly.
Lorelai smiled. He was truly an amazing father. He would have been a perfect dad to their kids.
'Stop it!' she had to remind herself. It was over now. She had screwed up.
"Does April know that? You barely said anything to that poor girl. You need to tell her that. She will be glad to hear it. Believe me. I would have given anything to hear my father say something like this," Lorelai said truthfully.
"Really?" Luke couldn't quite believe that.
"Really," Lorelai said, meaning it.
"Thank you. Really, just thank you! For everything, for taking April in, for being there to help her and that you are now listening to me… You don't know how much this means to me," Luke looked at her.
He almost looked at her the way he used to.
He slowly stood up, making his way towards the door. Lorelai followed him.
"So…" Luke said awkwardly.
"Soo…" Lorelai said.
"Bye… I guess," Luke didn't make any attempts of moving.
Then he leaned towards Lorelai and just when she was about to close her eyes, he suddenly turned around and ran out of the door.
Lorelai sighed. She could have sworn he was about to kiss her.
"Bye," she whispered sadly.
Lorelai was right: he had to tell April how he really felt.
He had to find her. There was only one possible place where she could be; the small lake near her house where she always went when she was upset.
As he made his way over there, his thoughts wandered to Lorelai.
What the hell was he thinking, almost kissing her?!
Oh yeah… That she was the woman he fell in love with, not the one he broke up with, the one he treated horribly.
She cared for him. She still cared for him and that was what almost made him kiss her and run away later.
But this was not the time to rediscover his old feelings for the woman who had once meant the world to him.
This really wasn't the time to think about his love life.
He needed to be there for April, so Luke pushed back his feelings for Lorelai just as he reached the lake.
April was sitting in the grass, her face directed towards the lake.
She was alone.
