I'll Bring You Back

Chapter Nine

"How the fuck does this happen?" Lucas gritted his teeth as he threw his hands in the air in disbelief. "This can't fucking happen again, one time, okay but twice is a hell fucking no."

Brooke stared at him, unsure of how to respond. She was just as nervous, just as scared, and just as worried as he was, but she didn't show it. "Luke..."

"No, Brooke. You told me you were on the fucking pill. You promised me! I made that mistake one time; I'm not making it again. I can't do this again."

"Well tough luck, Lucas. Maybe keep it in your fucking pants." Brooke responded bitterly. "I didn't plan this but either did you. Tough luck, grow up already."

Lucas took his turn to stare at her, "Grow up? I'm trying to fucking grow up and get shit together. I don't have money or shit, I can't do this, Pris."

"We don't know if it's actually positive till I go to the doctors. It can be one of those false positives." Brooke prayed out loud that it was. Being friends with Rachel allowed for Brooke to go through the false positive twice with her and Brooke prayed it was her turn for that.

"Three tests said positive, Brooke. I don't think all three are wrong." Lucas shook his head. "You need to correct it, make it go away. My mom will not be okay with this. I have just started seeing Lilly. I can't loose her again, Brooke."

"So what are you saying, Luke? That this is shit? Nothing to you? Nothing at all? If I'm pregnant, which just my awful ass luck, you want nothing to do with me? Nothing?"

"I didn't say that, Brooke. I mean nothing with that thing." He pointed towards her stomach. "I can't do it again."

"Now's different."

"How is now different? I'm a fucking high school drop out trying, and struggling to pass this fucking GED, Brooke. I don't have my life together enough to take care of another kid." Lucas backed away from her, "Look at you, Priss. You're in high school, graduating and probably college with an amazing life ahead of you, one that I bet does not have me in it."

"I want you in my life Lucas. I'm proud of you for changing and you will pass that test. I know you can, but this isn't going to be such a problem. We can make it work. I'll see if I can pick up some shifts at the restaurant for my mom to get some money."

"No, Brooke. Maybe you should go." Lucas walked towards his door. "Go home and do whatever you have to do. Go to the doctors and then tell me whatever you want to do."

"Don't leave me alone just like you left Lilly alone because you couldn't deal with your responsibilities then. If you want to prove you can be this independent macho man then help me figure out what the hell is going to happen, okay?"

"Lilly does not belong in this conversation. I gave up responsibility for her because I couldn't be that father that she needed. I'm trying to make the best out of this mess."

"The best? The best would be to make sure I'm okay and not utterly freaking the fuck out like I am on the inside, Luke. I'm scared to death and you're not really helping."

This time Lucas truly looked at Brooke. He let some of his anger go and saw her pain and hurt. He knew his words hurt her, but he was nervous. He was scared he was going to loose Lilly again. He was scared he was going to ruin Brooke's life.

"Brooke..." He zoned into her. "I'm just nervous. I've been through this before. I been through the struggles and everything involved. I just want you to have something better. You deserve better."

"Don't tell me what I deserve, only I can tell you that. I deserve you to be there, Luke. I'm not even sure what is going to happen. I just need you there with me through out it."

Lucas silently nodded, understanding that his anger had no place in this conversation. He could've used double the protection to make sure they were being safe but he just trusted her. It's just as much his fault as it is hers and he slowly understood that. "I'll try to be there, Brooke but I just don't know. I don't think I can handle this mess again."

"Handle it or not, it's what we have to do." Brooke stepped up, "If you want to do this with me, fine I'll let you, but don't think you can walk in and out all the damn time. I'll make sure to inform you if you need to be informed on anything. Till then you figure your shit out and I'll text you the doctors information when I make an appointment tomorrow."

Brooke left without another word. She had to get home soon as she knew her mother was home on Sunday afternoons and would be wondering where she was.

The moment Brooke walked in the door Victoria knew something was up. The doors were being slammed and there were grunts of aggression coming from Brooke but she didn't question it. Brooke was a typical teenager in Victoria's eye.

"Brooke the kitchen cabinet didn't do anything to you." Victoria looked up from the couch. "Now what's going on?"

"Nothing." Brooke bit her lip nervously. She wasn't sure how her mother was going to react, better yet, she was glad Clay was away at school still because once he finds out Lucas Scott is a dead man.

Victoria gave her one look simply stating that she didn't believe her. "Get your butt over here and sit, Baby. What's going on?" Victoria was worried. Brooke was the type of person similar to her father that deals with issues in her life by bottling it all up till she explodes after one issue pushes her over the edge.

Brooke gladly accepted her mother's arms, finding comfort as the tears fell from her eyes. "I messed up, Mama. I messed up big time this time." Brooke let it out, repeating that sentence over and over again.

Victoria sighed, rubbing her arms over Brooke's back in soft circles. Victoria knew it had to be something to do with Lucas, as that was who Brooke spent most of her extra free time with. She was okay with this as Victoria saw the improvements Lucas were doing with his life and her many conversations on slow nights with Karen.

"I didn't mean for it to happen." Brooke cried out. "I didn't mean for anything like this. Luke's made at me Mama, real mad but it ain't my fault."

"I'm gonna need more details than that, Baby." Victoria wiped Brooke's tears away. "What happened?"

"I'm not even sure." Brooke stared at her. "Mama you're not gonna like me after this."

Victoria sighed, "Brookie, no matter what you do I will always like you, love you and never give that up. Sometimes I'll be disappointed but I'll always love you." Victoria hoped that will help nudge her daughter into telling her the truth about what is going on.

"It was positive." Was all Victoria could manage to understand through Brooke's tears and mumbled voice.

Thoughts ran through Victoria's mind at this point. Positive? What was exactly positive? Was it a pregnancy test? Was it a drug test? Was it a sexually transmitted infection exam?

"What was positive, Brooke? Please tell me. Once you do it may get better." Victoria pleaded. Having your daughter cry in front of her and she didn't know how to make it better. "Baby please?" At this point, Victoria was silently glad that Alex locked herself in her bedroom blasting music that could be heard perfectly from downstairs.

Brooke took a deep breath trying to compose her thoughts. "I think I'm pregnant, Mama."

Victoria felt the weight of the world on her shoulders at this point. This was the one thing Victoria prayed would never occur within her family to either of her daughters. She struggled being a single mother of three kids being in her late twenties. Now her daughter who wasn't even eighteen or a high school graduate had to go through all of that. "Oh Brooke."

"Mama, I don't know what to do. Luke's mad at me, and yelled."

Victoria nodded gaining some composer. Somewhere inside of her she wants to scream and shake her to show how stupid her actions were to get her in this situation but when looking at her oldest daughter Victoria noticed how scared and nervous she was. She needed her mother to be strong and support her.

Victoria was going to be that support that she needed.

"Give him time baby, this is a lot to take in, even for me." Victoria held on to Brooke tighter. "Now did you go to the doctors, Baby?"

Brooke just shook her head. "I took three tests."

"Well first things first is we need to get you to the doctors, okay? After that we can have an adult conversation about what is going to happen. We'll invite Karen and Lucas over."

"I don't think Lucas wants anything to do with me." Brooke sadly stated.

"Give him time, Brooke. This is a lot of information for one to process." Victoria smiled softly. "Now how about we fix you some lunch and tomorrow I'll make you an appointment."

"Someone's here to visit you." Rachel kinked a brow towards the parking lot were she spotted Lucas leaning against her car. "He looks pissed."

"He should be," Brooke mumbled staring at him.

"Spill the beans Brooke. What happened between the two of you?"

"You finally decide that he's an asshole?" Nathan spoke up earning a slap from Haley to the back of the head. "Oww, what was that for Hales?"

"For you being an asshole." Haley sternly responded to him.

The relationship between Brooke and Nathan was still iffy with the inclusion of Lucas in Brooke's life. Nathan held his tongue most of the time, refusing to hang out with them all as a group but everyone else accepted Lucas into the group. Being friendly but not best friends with him.

"Damn Hales." Nathan mumbled complaining.

"Get over it big baby." Haley shook his head. "Brookie, what's wrong?"

"Nothing, don't worry about it. I'll see you all tomorrow. I have a doctor's so I'm skipping the afternoon." Brooke grabbed her stuff, waving goodbye before walking off towards her car and Lucas. "What are you doing here?" Brooke had a pout on her face, and stands nervously in front of Lucas who was resting against her car.

"I've been thinking about things, Priss." Lucas pushed her hands into his pockets. "I feel bad for yesterday. I was just shocked and nervous, okay? It's just a lot to process and I want a better life for you."

"Well I don't have time for this now. I'm late." Brooke pushed past him trying to get into her car. Her mother called first thing in the morning for an appointment and got one for this afternoon, which Brooke was on her way too. "Move Luke."

"Come on, Brooke. Don't do this." Lucas pleaded. "You can throw something like that on me and expect me to be okay. It took some time but I don't want you to do this alone. I want to be there."

"So now you do? Are you going to change your mind again?" Brooke questioned him. "I'm not gonna put up with it."

Lucas nodded letting out a long breath that he didn't realize he was holding in. "I'm in for the long term, Priss."

"Hope in." Brooke pointed to the car. "If you want to be apart of this I have a doctor's in ten minutes. Come with me."

"I'll be there." Lucas gladly went into the passenger seat as Brooke told him too. "I promise you this much, Priss."

"Don't make promises you can't keep, Luke. Don't let me down."

The car ride was silent as they drove through the tiny beach town towards the doctor's office. Brooke was processing that Lucas actually wanted to be there and Lucas was processing that Brooke didn't chop his balls off.

Brooke was silently praying the Victoria could get off of work to be there with her but she knew it wouldn't happen. Her mom was working a double shift and with the possibility of a baby coming into the family, her mom needed to save more.

"So I've been thinking last night," Lucas broke the silence. "I was thinking that if this is all true then maybe I'll do small jobs to get more money. The money from the factory is good, but I want more for you."

"Luke," Brooke apprehensively stated.

"It will be small ones, not like before. But it will bring in some more money that will be useful. My mom made me pay for half the baby stuff for Lilly and that's when I realized babies are fucking expensive. I want to be able to support you, Brooke. You and this baby if there is one."

"Luke I don't want you to have to do that." Brooke pulled up to the parking spot. "You just got out of it and then the whole Lilly thing."

"I'll keep it small so my mom will never find out, B. I need to do something for you till I figure this GED shit out."

Brooke sighed turning off the car. "Lucas if you're serious about being in this life then you bet your ass you're not returning to doing more." Brooke's anger flared. "I'm not having drugs around this baby."

"Okay." Lucas gave in.

"Let's do this now." Brooke sighed walking into the clinic.

The stares were something she knew she'd has to get use to lately because if these results come back how previous tests have then she'll have stares till the baby is born.

They were in and out of the clinic before they realized it was actually an hour. She was pregnant, seven weeks pregnant to be exact. They left with packets about every option possible for them to discuss, abortion, adoption, keeping the child.

"I'm keeping it." Brooke was dead set on this option not even asking Lucas for his opinion. "Do what you want to Lucas, but I'm keeping it."

"And I'll be there." Lucas promised excepting this choice.

As of now, it is official. Their lives will never be the same again.
