The following week was the hard on the pack. They were trying to get on with the campers while trying to get over the loss of the alpha. As Tyr predicted, Charlie had died mere minutes after getting back to camp and nobody could figure out why. The fight between Tyler and Percy had seemed to spark many more and the atmosphere between the two sides was tense. Being both half-blood and wolf Percy was able to break up most of the fights but it was becoming increasingly difficult.
Now that the camp knew what they were up against everyone had been doing research on Norse mythology. Percy was also looking into it and the more he read about Fenrir the more uneasy he became.
He was the son of the demoniac god Loki and a giantess, Angerboda. Fearing Fenrir's strength and knowing that only evil could be expected of him, the gods bound him with a magical chain. When the chain was placed upon him, Fenrir bit off the hand of the god Tyr. He was gagged with a sword and was destined to lie bound to a rock until the Ragnarök (Doomsday), when he will break his bonds and fall upon the gods.
He was distracted from the passage as he heard someone come up from behind him. He marked his page and turned to face the person to find the one person he hoped never to talk to again. It was Annabeth.
The wolf in him told him to bolt like any animal would but he would look like a coward. He wasn't afraid of Annabeth. Only a year ago he would be overjoyed to have time with her.
She sat down beside him but didn't say anything. They stayed like that for a while until Annabeth couldn't take it anymore.
"Why won't you talk to me" she asked. Percy was stunned hearing her voice for the first time since she broke his heart a year ago.
"What do you want me to say" he asked.
"Tell me why you didn't tell the others, that first day on the beach" she asked.
"I just didn't, that's all you need to know". Annabeth huffed but didn't say anything. The action was so like her and I realised how much I missed her during my disappearance.
"I tried to stop you that day once I realised you saw me and Tyler, but you're faster than you think" she said guiltily. Percy winced and closed his eyes as bad memories came flooding back. The thought that Annabeth cared what happened to him was unrealistic after so long of thinking that she had replaced him. He snarled to bring himself out of his thoughts.
"Are you mad" she asked.
"Not as much as before" he said carefully. It was still a sore subject for him. "It helped that I found a new family".
"What about us" she whispered.
"Of course I love you guys. I can have two families; I'm a wolf and a half-blood now."
"We all missed you. It hasn't been the same since you left."
"Well I'm back now for the foreseeable future."
"Are you going to leave again" she said with tears in her eyes. "You know, once the dangers over."
Now that he thought about it he would have a hard time leaving camp half-blood a second time. It had been his home for five years and now that he was back, he never wanted to leave again. He had missed the smell of the strawberries from the fields and going down to the beach with his friends. The missed playing capture the flag and all the camp activities. And of course he deeply missed all his friends; Grover, Nico, Thalia, Annabeth, Travis, Connor, and even Clarisse.
"I don't want to leave but I think I have to. I have a duty to the pack now and I can't leave them."
"I understand" she said and we fell silent. She left soon after, leaving him with only his thoughts.
When Percy left the beach he went to the arena to practise fighting, he met some campers and werewolves practising together. The campers were teaching the wolves to fight with swords and the wolves were teaching the campers the best places to aim for when fighting other werewolves.
It surprised him because they were the ones that had been fighting earlier. He decided it would be best to change and observe in case there was another fight.
"Hey Percy come join us" one of them said. Deciding that he did need a work out he walked over to join them.
He was working with one of the more experienced campers and it was turning out to be a difficult training session. Percy had not been practising with riptide for a year but within the week he was almost back to full strength. The guy he was fighting was from Ares cabin and he was giving him an intense work out. The guy was vicious. Percy had to work hard to dodge all the swipes and slashes, hoping that he would tire but the guy never ran out of steam.
After one particularly vicious strike he lost his footing and fell to the ground. He could hear someone laughing behind him. A very familiar voice. He couldn't mistake that voice. It was Tyler. He hadn't even known that Tyler was there. Rage and adrenalin filled him and everything moved in slow motion. He heard the sea in his ears and the next thing he knew his opponent was on the ground.
There was a murmur as people stopped what they were doing. Percy wasn't even sure what had happened. No one had seen anything like it. The purple glow around Percy died and the energy left him while the wolf slowly recovered. As the anger left him so did the strength. Avoiding the staring he swiftly left the arena and went to find Arianna and Jayden.
He found them at the climbing wall and dragged them away to discuss what happened.
"Well it was only a matter of time" Arianna said.
"What are you talking about?"
"Well Charlie used to talk about it. How when he was feeling strong emotions the things around him used to blow away or explode. It must be something to do with being the alpha. Some kind of psychic powers that you haven't learned to control."
"Aw how come Percy gets psychic powers" Jayden groaned.
"Stop being a baby" Arianna scolded.
As Percy was laughing at their child-like antics he saw Thalia coming toward them and straightened up.
"Hey Percy" she said.
"Hey Thalia what you doing down here" he asked.
"Oh just wanted to ask you to be on our side for capture the flag. What do you say?"
"Sounds awesome. What do you think guys?" Percy asked.
"Sounds good to me" Jayden agreed.
"Well then it's settled. The pack and the hunters against the campers."
