Well hello there. Been a while. So, heads up, the chapters will NOT be getting longer. Sorry guys, but this is meant to be the style of this piece. It's not gonna change. In fact, this chapter is slightly longer than usual, and will be the longest chapter. My story, just deal with it if you want to see the end. This will be the only update for a while, as I lost my summary list of chapters. Sorry, poppets.

When he woke, he was back in the bright room. Tied down to the stupid table, unable to move. Not that he wanted to, of course. His lungs burned, and he didn't even want to think about the rest of his body. He simply lay there, the light blazing against his closed eyelids, and let his mind drift. Who was he, he wanted to know. Had he really done something to deserve the pain he was feeling? Or was the woman, Amy Norman, lying?
"I'm still here, you know."
Oh, for Pete's sake...
"If anyone's watching," He rasped, shocked at how hoarse his voice sounded, "They're going to think I'm insane." The man laughed softly.
"Wouldn't that be a damn shame." He sneered, but there was little malice in the words, "That'd be funny, actually. A bit of amusement for me. Especially if you were to lose your mind for real."
"You're in a cheerful mood."
"Well, of course I am. My death is being avenged. With every torture you suffer, my sister brings my soul closer to freedom. I'm stuck here until she's satisfied that you've suffered enough." The man chuckled, "Funny how that works, huh?"
"Yeah. I guess so." He didn't bother opening his eyes, and fell silent.
"You're not being very entertaining."
"Bite me." He muttered, "Remind me again, what was your name?"
"Jaques. What's yours?" The 'ghost' sniggered.
"How many times do I need to say it? I don't remember anything before I woke up in that cell." He groaned softly, then whimpered as muscle spasms exploded through his legs.
"Must hurt." Jaques observed quietly.
"What happened to the avenging spirit? The one who was going to haunt me until I died?" He whispered, when his legs stopped twitching.
"Consider it pity. You've gone through a lot more pain than I did. I died very quickly." He could imagine that Jaques probably shrugged in the short silence, "I was pissed. I'm not exactly excited about being dead. But, hey, those are the breaks. Serve a crime lord, die hard. Though, I'm curious," He paused again, "Would you choose to die, or live, given the choice?"
He was silent. Completely silent. Did he want to die?
"I don't think I want to die. Not until I remember who I am." He whispered, barely a breath of a noise. Jaques laughed again.
"Well then, you should probably open your eyes. Leo."
And as he woke to reality, the world exploded back into pain.
