Chapter 9
Theresa screamed again as she risked looking down, the ground was coming towards her fast, and there was nothing that she could grab on to, and without her powers she couldn't even slow herself down, and the witch had her ring. Screaming again Theresa closed her eyes as she hit the ground getting knocked out.
The witch swooped down landing beside the unconscious Theresa, turning back into a human he walked over to her looking down at her he couldn't help but chuckle as he thought of the prophecy, and this was the girl that was supposed to defeat him?
"I won, Glinda!" The witch said laughing and dancing around, before looking at Theresa as he remembered the deal that he had made with her, he could turn this girl to stone and then use her as an example if anyone ever tried to defeat him again, but really she was quite ugly and he didn't want her making his yard look bad.
"What have you done?" the witch was surprised as Francine came running over to him, "have you killed her?" she demanded.
"Why do you care?" The witch demanded, taking Francie off guard for a moment, she was used to him talking to her rudely but now he sounded angry.
"Why does it matter to you to take over OZ?" This time it was Francine's turn to sound angry, for many years she had stood beside the witch, listened to all his stupid plans, and she had dealt with all of his yelling towards her, now she had had enough.
"Because I want to rule something." The witch said sarcastically, like it was common knowledge and Francine should have known that.
"Well I've had enough!" Francine growled.
The witch sighed in exasperation, "Francine, I was going to dump you as soon as I took over Oz," he said turning to walk away, "so uh nice knowing you."
"You still don't think that I have any powers do you?" Francine asked mockingly.
"You don't." The witch said facing her.
"That's just what I wanted you to think." Francine said smirking at the witch before throwing her hands in the air and throwing a fire ball at the witch, he reacted a second to slow and the fire ball hit him in the head sending him flying backwards. Francine smiled running over to him taking the ring off, and running over to a still unconscious Theresa, picking up her hand she slipped the ring back on her finger, hoping that the research that she had done on the ring was correct and that it would heal Theresa from whatever injuries she had received from her fight with the witch.
Jay was experiencing a bunch of emotions as he walked down the hall towards Chiron's room, on one hand he felt relief that Cronus was finally back in Tarturas, the fight with him was over, and of course on the other hand Theresa was still in a coma, and no one knew if it got any worse with Cronus kidnapping her, Jay sighed trying to control his anger, he didn't want Theresa to be able to sense any anger, in case she could, no one really knew what happened in a coma, Chiron even said that she might be able to hear him and his friends talking, so they had all decided to keep everything positive in hopes that that would help her wake up.
As Jay walked into Chrion's room he wasn't surprised to see Atlanta, and Persephone sitting beside a still unconscious Theresa, they had barely left her side since Cronus' defeat a few days ago.
"Hey Jay." Atlanta said her voice sounded hoarse, and Jay knew from the look on her face that she had just finished crying.
Jay didn't say anything he nodded and walked over to a chair on the other side of Theresa taking her hand, looking at her Jay had to fight back tears, but he was beginning to get worried that she might never wake up.
"We're going to have to wake everyone in her house up again soon, just in case some reporters come back." Persephone said after long moments of silence.
"I know." Jay said sighing.
"Stay positive, Jay." Persephone said giving Jay a small smile.
Jay looked at Persephone and tried to smile back but he couldn't, all he wanted to do was celebrate the fact that Cronus was finally gone, and instead everyone was sulking around, being worried about Theresa, Jay really couldn't hate Cronus for one thing, as silly as it sounded, if he hadn't have escaped from Tarturas then he never would have met Theresa, if there was one good thing to come out of all this then it was meeting Theresa. Jay knew that if she never woke up then he would probably never date anyone again, Theresa was the one that he wanted and he had to believe that she would wake up, somehow it would happen she was tough.
Theresa was taken off guard as the pain that she was feeling was starting to disappear, but that was impossible she had fallen from a great distance and hit the ground hard, she should be dead, and yet here she was able to feel pain, in fact she could hear someone singing beside her, a female, but that was impossible as well, the only 2 people that were still around were here and the witch.
"Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high." The strange female voice sung, "there's a land that I heard of, once in a lullaby."
As the pain disappeared enough that Theresa was able to move her head, which she found strange since she thought that she would have a broken neck, or back, but Theresa decided not to think of that right now, forcing her eyes to open Theresa looked up at the girl who had been singing to her.
"Ah you're awake!" she said excitedly, "it did work."
"What worked?" Theresa asked confused, "and who are you?"
"Oh how silly of me!" The girl said giggling, "I'm Francine."
"Hi, I'm…"
"Theresa." Francine said cutting her off.
"How do you know my name?" Theresa asked feeling more confused.
"I was dating the wicked witch, whatever he knows I know."
"What?" Theresa asked being taken off guard.
"Was…" Francine said anger evident in her voice, "I've had enough of his rudeness, and the fact that he wants to take over Oz for really no reason, that's why I decided to help you."
"How did you do that?"
Francine smiled holding up Theresa's hand.
"The ruby ring!" Theresa gasped sitting up a little too fast, she was dizzier then she was expecting, Francine put a hand on her back to stop her from falling.
"I got it back from the witch," Francine said turning to face the witch, Theresa looked as well and was surprised to see that he was lying on the ground, unconscious, Francine smiled handing Theresa the sword, "go and finish the prophecy."
Theresa looked at the witch and then at Francine unsure.
"The ring will protect you." Francine assured her.
Theresa nodded standing up, with some difficulty since the armor she was wearing was quite heavy, and turned to face the witch, who looked like he was still passed out.
"You can do this." Theresa thought to herself, why was she feeling so nervous? This witch had killed people, and turned people to stone, ruined families, he deserved his fate, but that being said could Theresa actually kill him? She didn't even think that she could kill Cronus, but then again all that her and her friends would have to do was send Cronus back to Tarturas where he would stay forever. When Theresa thought of her friends she had to fight back tears, would killing the witch be her ticket to finally getting back home? To finally see Jay again? Theresa sure hoped so as she took a deep breath raising the sword in the air, and then lowered the sword as she prepared to kill the wicked witch.
The wicked witch felt his anger building as he heard Francine, and Theresa talking, Francine had betrayed him, and had given the ring back to Theresa, so that meant that killing her would be much more difficult now, but not impossible. The witch listened as Theresa's footsteps got closer and closer to him, as soon as they stopped, the witch heard Theresa lift her arms over her head, the armor she was wearing made every movement she made super loud, which suited him just fine it was easier to determine her movements when he could hear them without having his eyes open. The witch heard Theresa exhale and then heard her armor move signaling that she was lowering the sword.
Theresa gasped in surprise as the wicked witch disappeared just seconds before the sword would have made contact with his heart, looking around her quickly Theresa then looked at Francine surprised.
"He's trying to throw you off guard!" Francine cried.
Theresa screamed as the witch appeared behind her putting his hand around her neck, "gotcha." He whispered in Theresa's ear, sending a chill down Theresa's spine.
"Let her go!" Francine cried.
"Shut up, Francine, and I may let you live." The witch said growling at her.
"Leave her alone!" Theresa said, "she hasn't done anything to you!"
"She betrayed me!" The witch said and Theresa watched as his eyes turned red.
"You were going to betray me!" Francine yelled, and Theresa watched in surprise as she disappeared.
"Oh so you can disappear now too?!" The witch yelled, turning around in all directions dragging Theresa with him.
"That's not all I can do!" Francine said, still invisible.
"Show yourself!" The witch demanded, Theresa looked around for her sword, and as she looked down she realized that it was just out of arm's length, if the witch would just let her go then she would be able to reach it, but it didn't look like that was going to happen since he had his hands on her chest, and was holding her extremely tightly.
"It doesn't matter!" the witch whispered in Theresa's ear, "you'll never win, I can promise you that." The witch threatened, causing Theresa's blood to go cold at how scary he sounded, Theresa knew that she had to try and get free, but right now she wasn't sure how she was going to do that, and she wasn't even sure if Francine was still around to help her, or if she would be willing to help her anymore, luckily though her fears were unfounded as a few seconds later, three things seemed to happen simultaneously, first the witch screamed super loudly, second Theresa found herself on the ground disoriented for a moment, and third Francine re appeared.
"How did that feel?!" She asked the witch clearly mocking him.
As Theresa tried to figure out what had happened she looked at the witch who was jumping around clearly in pain, and as he turned around Theresa was surprised to see that the witch had a rather large hole in his pants, and it looked like fire had created it.
"You'll pay for that!" The witch growled before disappearing again, and before Francine could react, the witch was behind her.
"Now I have you," the witch whispered in Francine's ear, "and this time I won't let you go!"
"Let her go!" Theresa screamed as she picked up her sword aiming it at the witch.
"Put that down, or else I'll kill Francine here and now." The witch threatened.
Theresa looked between Francine and the witch, and as she looked in the witch's eyes, she saw that they were glowing red, much like Cronus' eyes did when he was being dead serious, Theresa sighed dropping her sword, keeping it close enough to her in case she needed to grab it quickly.
"What do you want?" Theresa finally asked after a few moments of silence.
"What?" The witch asked clearly confused.
"Whatever you want I'll give to you, just let Francine go."
The witch raised an eyebrow at Theresa before smirking, "give me the ring and leave."
"What?" Theresa asked being taken off guard, she had figured the witch would ask for the ring, but to ask her to leave.
"I want to rule Oz, and I can't do it with you still here, so leave, and never come back."
"Theresa don't believe him!" Francine cried, "He's lying!"
Theresa looked at Francine before at the witch, "fine but let her go."
"As soon as I get the ring." The witch said giving Theresa a smile, that made her feel un easy, but Theresa decided to ignore the feeling in the pit of her stomach telling her to not make a deal with the witch, but Francine had saved her and now it was Theresa's turn to try and return the favour.
"Fine." Theresa said slipping the ring off her finger, and throwing it to the witch, he let go of Francine as he caught it, slipping it on his finger, before laughing.
"You stupid girl!" The witch said as he made a sword appear, Theresa gasped jumping out of the way before the sword could hit her.
"Leave her alone!" Francine screamed running over to the witch, but he made another sword appear out of thin air, and before Francine could stop, the witch stabbed her in the stomach.
"Francine!" Theresa cried watching in horror as Francine fell to the ground, Theresa growled picking up her sword and running towards the witch.
"Oh please." The witch said laughing as he disappeared.
Theresa growled again closing her eyes, and to her surprise the powers that hadn't worked since she had arrived in Oz kicked in, and her sixth sense could sense exactly where the witch was, which was perfect except for the fact that he had the ring, and that meant that Theresa couldn't hurt him.
"Crap!" Theresa whispered under her breath, wishing that she hadn't have been stupid enough to give the witch her ring.
"Out of ideas?" The witch asked mockingly as he stepped out from behind a tree, "you could just give up you know."
"I don't think so!" Theresa yelled.
"Fine have it your way." The witch said as he disappeared, Theresa closed her eyes, feeling grateful when her sixth sense kicked in again, she saw that the witch was charging at her, and she was standing on the side where the ring was all Theresa would have to do is try and trip him so she could grab the ring back, taking a deep breath, Theresa stepped out of the way, putting one of her feet out and before the witch could stop himself he tripped over Theresa's foot, she quickly grabbed the ring off his finger.
"How'd you do that?" The witch demanded, looking up at her clearly confused.
"I have my ways." Theresa said slipping the ring back on her finger, bending down she picked up her sword, "and now you're mine."
"You think so?" The witch smirked.
"You can't turn invisible without me knowing where you are now, it's over!" Theresa screamed, she was starting to get super frustrated.
The witch laughed kicking Theresa's leg, causing her to fall, the witch picked up his sword holding it at her throat, "you're finished."
Theresa closed her eyes not wanting to watch her inevitable death coming, but it never came, and when Theresa risked opening her eyes she was shocked to see that the witch was on the ground gasping for air.
"Huh?" Theresa asked herself confused, before noticing Francine laying next to the witch, Theresa gasped running over to her taking her hand.
"Are… you… al…ri..gh…t?" Francine asked taking a breath between each line, Theresa slipped off the ruby ring, putting it on Francine's finger.
"I'm fine, but stay here and relax," Francine said looking at the witch scowling, "I have some unfinished business." Theresa said standing up walking over to the witch taking the sword that Francine had used to stab him in the stomach out.
"Your reign of terror is over." Theresa said as she raised the sword above her head and pierced his heart, the witch gasped, and then turned to dust; the wind then blew his ashes away.
Theresa sighed happy that the prophecy had finally come true, and she survived it, although she wasn't really sure how she had but she did.
