chapter: 10
There is this old saying, Like the Sands in the Hourglass. Think of our lives like the hourglass, and each grain of sand is an event that we have spent and dealt with. Some of those good, and some... not so much. But in the end, things have a way of turning out right. And when said grain of sand falls to the bottom, they become a memory for us to reflect on for another day. And looking back on our old memories, they can bring up faint or maybe full on emotions. Anger, sadness, pain, joy, it differs depending on what memory you are looking at. For Lilac Frost, many of her memories are better left forgotten in her way of thinking. So, she focuses on making better new ones with what she is given. And right now, what she has is just fine by her.
"Really? You never ever tried perhaps chilling the formula to make it more stable?" lilac frost asked as she tapped her digit on the large test tube that held the bright green liquid. "I mean, it would not necessarily perfect it but it maybe could help compose its structure more so you would be able to analyze whats missing." Rubbing his chin, Ratchet thought over what Lilac had said with a visible look of concentration. "I haven't even consider it." Ratchet responded as he picked up the test tube and sloshed the liquid around in it. "Slowing it down could help determine what makes this formula tick." Beaming with delight, Lilac watched as a small smile formed on the older medic's face. Never would have emitted it aloud, Lilac could feel her spark fluxing wildly at being of help to Ratchet.
"It's not like how I first envisioned it," she thought, "but this is just as good. I'm at least breaking thru his grumpiness." Lilac stared at Ratchet as he fiddled with the liquid under a microscope. "Though, it may be easier due to the fact that I'm Cybertronian like him now." Laughing lightly, Lilac watched as Ratchet looked up at her in a curious manner. Raising an optic ridge, Ratchet stood his full height in front of the lavender femme. "What's so funny?"
"Nothing important Ratchet. Just... I was just thinking of home." Lilac tried to smile but it slowly faded as memories of her home came to her mind. Watching how Lilac Frost quickly drifted off into her memories, Ratchet couldn't help but wonder what exactly she was thinking. 'What is it about her home that made her act that way?' Ratchet thought. 'When I think of Cybertron, it usually brings me happy memories.' Watching how sad Lilac looked, Ratchet soon figured her visions of home were the exact opposite.
'What could have happened to her that can make her so down?' Ratchet thought as he scanned over the room. No one was around, Raf had been pulled off somewhere by Miko for some odd thing, Jack was out driving with Arcee, and for the others Ratchet had no clue where they were. All in all, he and Lilac had the room to themselves. "So... do you miss your home?" the medic tried to sound casual, thankful that no one was here to see him asking suck a question to a femme. It was then apparent that his attempt to start a conversation had failed when Lilac stared at him blankly and then shrugged before looked up towards the ceiling.
"Yeah a little," Lilac replied, "I guess I'm just a little homesick. I miss doing the stuff that I used to do." Soon silence fell on them, and the two started to shift on their peds. Clearing his throat to try to clear the awkwardness that formed, Ratchet thought of something to change the subject. "So what did you do, you know, back home?" unfortunately for Ratchet, it made it feel more awkward. Letting loose a small smile, Lilac couldn't help but chuckle at how awkward Ratchet was getting.
"I was an artist," Lilac began, "mostly visual arts but I did enjoy many other forms as well." Lilac said as she thought back to all the times she performed in art shows and on the theatrics stages. "The best part was it made people smile when they saw my work no matter the genre." Lilac finished looking at her servos with a frown, knowing that she no longer would be able to do most of the things she loved.
Making sure, again, that no one was around, Ratchet smiled and took Lilac Frost's servo in his own. "This is a bit out of character for him," she thought but pushed it aside. Just having the medic touch her lightly would make her metal skin tingle. "I understand, and I'm sorry you miss your world." Pulling the smaller femme into a hug, Lilac could feel her face heating up being so close to Ratchet.
But unknown to the two, someone was watching them from the side lines.
"Well well well, I leave you two love birds alone for few minutes and you're already hugging each other. You two don't waste any time." Blue Sparrow called out and laughed as she saw her friend's face turn a bright pink. Quickly pushing herself out of the medic's arms, both Lilac and Ratchet stared off into different parts of the room. "Don't let me ruin your fun." Blue said as she stood next to a wall, crossing her arms in front of her chest.
Shaking her helm furiously, Lilac tried to find her words but was failing miserably. "N-n-no! It's not like that!" Trying to find something to make her friend understand, Lilac gave up with a defeated sigh before hanging her helm. "It's late, I'm tired, so I'm going to get some rest." Lilac said as she left for the room she was assigned with Blue with said larger femme following behind her, but not before giving Ratchet a sly smile and wink.
While the two finally made it back to their room, they were welcomed with the one small berth that it offered. Since the base was already short on rooms, the two femmes were to share the room. So they came up with each one taking a turn on the berth every other night, though Blue would not find it comfortable sleeping on the floor with her wings causing problems. So tonight Lilac Frost allowed Blue Sparrow to sleep on it tonight.
"You know something," Blue said as she laid down on the berth. "I wish I could flirt like you. You do it SO well." The big framed femme teased which made her smaller friend look up at her in confusion. "What do you mean?" Lilac asked "I don't know how to flirt." Rolling her two colored optics, Blue looked at her friend who was sitting on the floor next to her. "I guess you're one of those natural type who do it without thinking." lilac shrugged, "I have been told that once or twice."
"You know you seem strangely happy, where'd you run off to?" Lilac asked crossing her arms as she looked up at her friend, who had a look of pure gladness on her. "I just talked with Optimus is all." Blue said waving off the question. But Lilac would not falter in her quest for answers. "Then what happened?"
"He asked a few question, then one thing led to another..." Blue said as she smiled happily. "And I managed to get the big lug out of the base for a night." With her optics going large, Lilac poked her friend in the shoulder plate. "And you call my the flirt," she teased, "All I did was talk to Ratchet. You all went up and asked the Boss Bot on a date!" Looking down at her friend in shock, Blue watched as Lilac laughed wildly.
"I did not!" Blue protested. "I just said to him that he acts too much like a... robot. All emotionless and stuff. He needed to get out more so I offered to take him somewhere that will make him smile." Snickering loudly, Lilac Frost formed a heart shaped ice frost over Blue's chest plates. "Yeah, you keep telling yourself that." Brushing the ice away, both Blue and Lilac soon started laughing at how things were going for them.
"You know, I just thought of this, but there is a BIG age difference between me and ratchet." Lilac said between laughs. "If he was a human, I would estimate his age to be around 40," the small femme giggled, "but it doesn't matter cause we are Cybertronian right?" Blue Sparrow started to laugh again at hearing that. "Wow, that's a big gap there. At least with me, Optimus is somewhat close to my age." Blue would have laughed on and on but when she saw the look her friend on the floor was giving her she stopped. "What?"
"Optimus is like, older than Ratchet." Lilac said trying not to laugh with her servo over her mouth. Now Blue was the one confused, she had always thought Ratchet was way older than anyone in the base. "I thought Ratchet would be older? That's why Optimus calls him 'old' friend?" At hearing this Lilac Frost fell flat on her stomach as she pounded her fist into the floor while laughing hard. "Oh flippin flapjacks! That is hilarious!" Rolling her optics at her friend, Blue Sparrow watched for a few more minutes as Lilac finally calmed down enough to speak. "But no they are around the same age," lilac began as she gestured with her servos, "
looking at older sires optimus in g1 was older then ratchet. this was proven when the aerialbots whent back in time to see optimus in his pre prime state. upon their return when asked about what had happen optimus remembered them and ratchet had no idea what they were talking about. though i can see the confusion by the animated series where optimus was still a young adult late twenties early thirties. ratchet on the other hand was much older and was shown as a veteran in a war that has long passed. in prime they are more close in age range. I do believe ratchet is a few years short of being older but i could be wrong. due to the fact all that we were given was the fact ratchet new optimus befor he was prime. this restating the fact that they were friends in the golden ages. therefore we are never really given anything to state which one is older. yet we have been lead to believe from how close ratchet is to optimus, and how much the medic knows about the prime that they were very close pals. now calculate on how long the war has been going on plus the way the two act around everyone else add in personality factors and add in what we know if there past. this has lead to their estimate human ages for both to be in their forties." Staring at her friend in awe, Blue almost thought her jaw dropped off when she noticed her friend was right.
With a loud yawn, Lilac Frost rubbed her optics lazily as her helm started to dip up and down. Noticing her friends sleepy acts, Blue Sparrow tapped Lilac's shoulder plating but when she didn't respond he took to shaking it. "Lilac, I think we should catch some 'z's. You're already passing out on me here." Blue said as Lilac nodded with her helm relaxing on her shoulder. "Yeah, I guess you're right. Night Blue Sparrow." Lilac said as she curled up right next to the berth. "Night Frost." Blue said as she turned to face the wall next to her. As the two drifted off into sleep, neither never knew of the events that were about to take place in just a few short hours.
Blue wasn't sure how many hours she gotten to sleep but she knew that it wasn't much as she was woken up by the sounds of what she thought was someone dry-heaving and/or trying not to vomit. Sitting up on the berth with a quick stretch and pope from her wings, Blue looked around the dark room and with the aid of her two colored optics casting a light she soon found the owner to the noise.
Sitting off in a corner with her arms wrapped around her middle was Lilac Frost with the most pitiful look her face could make. "Lilac, you okay?" the large femme asked as she walked over to her smaller friend. Lilac sat up, with a bit of difficulty, and shook her helm before looking at her taller friend. "N-no, my tanks are hurting and I feel like I am about to chuck up last years meatloaf." Lilac said but Blue Sparrow had a bit of difficulty hearing her since her servo covered her mouth. "Maybe you got a virus or something?" Blue said as crouched down so she could feel her friends forehead. "I was kind of wondering if we might get sick since we're not used to Cybertronian sicknesses."
"I feel like scrap and that scrap got sat on by a building." Lilac Frost said as she dry-heaved loudly. "Why don't we go see Ratchet than." Blue said as she lifted Lilac off the floor and tried to get her out the room but the smaller femme was not moving with her pains overpowering her will to move. "I guess I will have to carry you there." Picking the smaller femme up and holding her in a bridal style, Blue walked out of the room while Lilac rested her helm against Blue's chest plates. As they walked down the halls, Blue noticed that Lilac had this distant look in her optics and was about to ask what she was thinking but stopped when she entered the med-bay and found Ratchet still up and looked to be organizing some items.
"Ratchet." Blue Sparrow called but the medic was too far into his work that he didn't hear the large femme. Scowling at him, Blue banged her foot on the nearby wall loudly which soon got the grumpy mech to turn to them. Grumbling something on the lines of his peace never lasting, Ratchet looked ready to throw his wrench at someone but stopped when he caught sight of Blue holding a distressed Lilac. Holding his optics more to the smaller femme, Ratchet motioned for Blue to sit her down on a berth next to him."What's wrong?" Ratchet asked, trying to hold back the worry in his voice. Sitting herself and Lilac down on the berth, Blue tried to put her friend down but every movement only caused Lilac more pain. "I woke up to her dry-heaving in a corner of our room. She says she doesn't feel all that great"
Nodding his helm, Ratchet helped Blue work her friend out of her arms and onto the berth. "I will run some tests. Maybe she caught a virus." Ratchet said as he turned on a computer. "That's what I said. Maybe she caught something cause we have never been exposed to your germy bits before." Blue said and Ratchet had to roll his optics at her childlike term but he had to agree. Lilac could have something minor to him and the rest of the bot but to her and Blue it could be life threatening since they were never grew accustomed to it. "Possibly." Calling Optimus, Ratchet informed his leader and told him that maybe he should keep Blue Sparrow busy for a bit. When Optimus responded with a yes he would watch over her, Ratchet turned to Blue with a shooing motion with his servo.
"Optimus will be outside waiting for you. He will want to know what you told me." Blue nodded but leaned herself on the wall. "He can wait. I will stay here with Lilac." Shaking her helm, Lilac griped Blue servo. "No no, I'll be fine. I've got Ratchet taking care of me, besides, don't want to keep your date waiting do you?" At hearing this, Ratchet raised an optic brow. "Date?" he asked and Blue shook her helm while Lilac tried to giggle lightly. "It's nothing Ratchet, just take good care of her." Nodding his helm, Ratchet watched as Blue left the room. "I always do."
Out in the main room, Blue watched as just as she stepped out of the med-bay Optimus came and nearly rammed right into her. "Sorry Prime." Blue said but Optimus shook his helm. "No, the fault is mine... How is Lilac Frost?" Optimus asked as he noticed how Blue looked very worried. "She woke up I guess with her tanks giving her some pain. Ratchet's looking her over." Walking over to a wall, Blue leaned on it before she slowly slid herself down it till she sat down on the floor. "Nothing ever goes my way, does it?" Blue asked but Optimus could only raise his brow. "I'm afraid I don't understand." he said as he walked over to Blue. "I mean, first my human life sucks, then we come here and no one likes us, after that we get captured by Cons, and to finish it up my one friend in this Primus forsaken world is probably so sick that... Gah! I hate my life."
Slamming the back of her helm into the wall, Blue sighed loudly as she shut her optics. "Can't one thing ever go my way for once. Just once, I would like to relax and not have to worry about everything around me come crashing down." Frowning at how Blue was acting, Optimus thought of something. "Would it be alright to ask if we take that trip of yours early?" Opening her red optic and leaving the other closed, Blue looked up at him in confusion. "Excuse me?"
"Maybe getting out of the base right now will do us both some good." Optimus said as held his servo out to Blue Sparrow. Looking at the servo held out to her for a moment, Blue smiled with a shrug and took it. Pulling the femme back up to her peds, Optimus smiled back as they walked over to the ground bridge. "So where is this spot you told me about?" Optimus asked "The only thing I am telling you is that at this time of the morning it will look amazing." Blue said as she managed to figure out how to type in the area she wanted them to go. "How will we get back though?" Blue asked.
"We can call the rest of the team later when they are all up." Optimus said as he pulled down the lever and the bridge powered to life. "You know, you should have heard what Lilac said about us doing this. She can be crazy sometimes." Blue said as she walked through the portal and Optimus watched her go. "I do wonder what she said." Optimus said to himself as he followed the femme and the bridge closed behind them.
Back in the med-bay, Ratchet was reading a test that the computer had finished but like many others he tried it came back negative. "I can't seem to figure out what it is that is ailing you Lilac." Ratchet said as he looked back down at the femme who was now sitting up on the berth. She was still in some pain but it was starting to ebb away. "I think I just caught a short cold Ratchet, Maybe I should just go lie down for a bit." But before the femme could get up and walk around Ratchet had his servo on her shoulder.
"Yep ep ep! You are not leaving till I find out what made you sick." Ratchet said and Lilac Frost nodded as she sat back down. "Have you checked all known viruses Ratchet?" Lilac asked, wanting to be some help. "Yes, and i even branched it out for new strains of them but nothing." the medic said as he typed something into the computer. "Maybe I should try an energon test. Maybe the energon they gave you and Blue is having an after effect?" Ratchet said as he came at Lilac with a needle.
"But then wouldn't Blue be sick as well?" Lilac asked as she held her arm out. "There are possible reasons for that," Ratchet said as he took his sample of the femme's energon blood, noticing how it had a slight lavender hue to it. "Her larger frame could have fought off the virus better then someone of your size could or she just possibly hasn't shown symptoms yet." putting the blood into the computer to scan, Ratchet watched how Lilac kept rubbing her optics. "Did you get any sleep at all last night?"
"Not really. My pains kept me up for half the night but Blue Sparrow was the main reason why." Lilac said as she played her digits on the berth to a beat only she knew. "What do you mean?" Ratchet asked, seeing he had time to ask since the scan would take a bit. "She talks in her sleep... or more like screams and cries." Lilac said as she looked at the walls. "Why?" Ratchet asked. "I think it has to do with her past. She told me that it wasn't always a bright one as she likes to make people think." Lilac responded, knowing that her own life was near Blue definition of odd.
"... You two really put on brave faces do you?" Ratchet asked, making Lilac look up at him in wonder. "You don't want others seeing you hurt or you seeing them sad, so you put on this always cheerful and happy disposition?" Ratchet asked but it was more of a statement. Looking away, Lilac didn't want to say anything knowing that the older medic was correct. She didn't know for sure about Blue, deep down she did, but she always had that mask on to hide what she was really feeling on the inside.
Ratchet was about to speak again but was stopped when the computer gave off a loud beep that made him and Lilac jump. "I guess the computer finally found something?" Lilac asked as she peered at the screen with many Cybertronian symbols on it. As Ratchet read over the list, he was grateful to Primus that Lilac Frost couldn't read this by what was on it. "Something wrong Ratchet?" Lilac asked, not liking how the medic went quiet. "Um... how am I going to put this?" Ratchet said to himself. "... have you... been with... were you with someone back in your home world?"
Looking at him confused, "what do you mean by..." Lilac face turned red and she shook her helm madly."what no! Why even ask that?" Lilac asked while Ratchet tried to find the right words. From the scans it told that Lilac was just in or out of her teen years as a Cybertronian so that answered how this could happen but he needed to be sure. "How about here then? In this world have you been with anyone?" Ratchet asked, his voice becoming a bit more persistent.
agine Lilac shook her helm madly answering, "no i have certainly..." the lilacs femme optics went wide. her face looked like a juicy ripe tomato from how red she was. ratchet raised an optic ridge.
"I...I... may have," lilac said as a look of shame spread over face. she looked up at rachet and asked, "what dose that have to do with anything?"
"It has to deal with everything the scan is telling me." Ratchet said in a more angry medic voice than his normal kind one. "Because the only way to get sparked is to be with a mech."
At hearing this Lilac looked at him in shock. "What?"
"You heard me. You are sparked. You are going to have a sparkling."
