I am sooooooooooooo sorry I've been AWOL for the past month or so- I decided to participate in November's NaNoWriMo contest. Although I didn't win and I'm nowhere near finishing my novel, I learned a lot of stuff about writing in general. And here is the long overdue update...

Disclaimer: I will own Divergent when Susan gets drunk and decides to kiss Eric.

Tris

We fan out into a triangle formation, with Tobias in the lead and Christina and I on either side of him. The conversation dies, and I try to move as quietly as possible. I feel as if unseen eyes and hands surround us from all sides, but I again dismiss it as paranoia. It's really no wonder, after all we've seen and done. Some things can't be erased from the subconscious mind- I will never be able to feel truly safe again.

I lift my foot to take another step, but the laces of my combat boot tangle in a bush, and I gasp and curse as I stumble and fall flat on my face with a not-so-quiet thud.

Tobias stops and looks back at me, wearing a worried expression just visible in the half-light. " Are you alright, Tris? Are you hurt?" he says, moving to help me up.

"I'm fine," I manage to get out, pulling myself into a sitting position and waving him away. "I just need to fix my shoelace. Go on ahead, I'll catch up."

He gives me a long look, nods, and vanishes into the trees along with Christina.

I sigh and begin the long process of untangling my laces.

I'm almost finished when I hear leaves rustling, and footsteps, cursing as I realize that Tobias and Christina are coming back, and that this is wasting the little time we have before the other team finds us. "I told you guys it was all right to go on ahead," I say from where I sit on the ground, shaking my head at their apparent lack of hearing. Tobias can be very protective sometimes; I love that about him, but it can feel insulting, like I'm a child who can't yet fathom the dangers of this world.

There's no answer. No sound but the wind. The other team, maybe?

I hear a branch crack behind me and jump to my feet, whipping around to find the source of the noise. A smelly glove covers the lower half of my face, cutting off any sound or scream I might have made. Peter, I think, but that's ridiculous. Right? I struggle against the iron grip, but it is of no avail, and a large heavy something cracks against the back of my head. The pain is so intense, I wonder if my skull has split open as the world goes black.

Tobias

"Shouldn't she have caught up by now, even with those puny short legs of hers?" Christina mutters as we make our way through the bracken.

She does have a point. It's been nearly ten minutes now and Tris still hasn't shown up. "Maybe we should go back and look for her. I don't feel comfortable with letting her wander around out there alone."

Christina shrugs. "She can handle herself. She's fine, I'm sure. Maybe she needed to go potty, too. She'll be here soon."

I wish I had her confidence- I'm starting to get the nagging feeling that something just went horribly wrong.I stiffen as the wind starts to pick up, turning back to face the direction we came from.

I promised her I wouldn't leave her again. Never, ever again.

"We're going back for her."

Tris

The headache is awful, but what's even worse is the dizzy, disoriented feeling. I want to cry out, for Tobias, for anyone really, but I can't find my voice- the words come out as a dry, rusted squeal.

When I push open my eyes, I realize that I'm lying on a rusty cot in a stone chamber. The memory of the attack in the forest comes racing back, and I moan aloud in shock and fear.

What the Hell is going on?

Please review, this story is my baby and my favorite one to write. The reviews make my day and I'm disappointed about the lack of reviews for this one... so please write one. Think of it as an act of selflessness. I'm begging here.
