Author's Note: okay, I officially suck. I know I promised chapter updates every three weeks-every month, but this year has been tough for me. Depression and self-loathing hit home hard, and I didn't really have motivation for anything. But I pulled through and this chapter didn't turn out as bad as I was expecting though! I can promise you this, next chapter, is when things start to get going. I know I say that all the time, but this time, I MEAN IT!
Thanks to everyone who stayed with this story I love you all
Hope you enjoy!
"No, no, it's okay. I got this."
Her knees had buckled once again and she leeched onto Gaepora's arm. Kahle had finally recovered from her injuries, and she was walking without her crutches for the first time in months.
"Doctor, surely she must go through some transitional process to walk again unassisted? Some step-by-step program?" Gaepora sighed as he held Kahle's weight up with his arm. They'd been at it for hours. Kahle was accompanied by the doctor, Gaepora, Owlan, and even Asha was there. Her and Kahle had become much better friends ever since Asha defended her.
The doctor shook his head. "She just needs time! She hasn't walked on her own in months, I wouldn't be surprised if she forgot how! And not to mention that her loftwing will need to be able to see her, too much longer and their bond will begin to fade!"
Owlan slightly rolled his eyes. "Doctor, we've been taking care of that for months. Her loftwing is intelligent and will remember her as if she was never away. And besides," he said quietly, to himself, "it's not too easy to forget her."
He looked at Kahle, who was beaming back at him. After just a quick glance, both turned red in the face and looked away. Asha giggled.
Kahle and Owlan had to keep their relationship extremely secretive. If the headmaster found out about them, not only would it be the most scandalous affair the town has ever seen, but they would not be able to see each other anymore.
Asha was the only other person who knew about their relationship, and over time, the hatred both Kahle and Asha felt for each other dissolved completely. She was Kahle's closest girl friend now, and really her only one.
"Good, good." the doctor said after Owlan volunteered to watch over Kahle. "And Asha, she will need your help as well. I understand that you two share a divided room?"
"Yes. I can help her whenever she needs it." Asha said. Kahle nodded in appreciation towards her.
"Kahle, I've made sure these past months that your loftwing was attended to, and what a magnificent creature he is!" the Headmaster exclaimed, causing Kahle to blush. She thought of Octavian, how lonely he must've been. Loftwings usually would mingle with others of their color, but since he was the only yellow loftwing, he would have been all alone.
"Ah yes, the rare golden loftwing!" the doctor said.
Under her breath, Kahle said, "He's really more of a yellow." Owlan smirked.
"Well, I assume you should be back in tip-top shape in no time. I strongly encourage getting outside and spending time with your loftwing as much as possible, that will help familiarize you with your previous routine, which will help get you back on track in no time." the doctor said, straightening his suspenders. "Will you be needing these anymore? Or do you feel strong enough with some help?"
He was referring to the crutches. Frankly, Kahle was eager to give them up. She had lots of bad moments and memories from her time with them, which was approximately 4 months. From constantly tripping to armpit rashes, her months with the crutches were not fond ones.
"No, I won't be needing them anymore. I can do this." she said confidently, and everyone in the room looked at her with an expression that seemed a mixture of sympathy and admiration. She meant what she said, she could do this. She hadn't thought of her attack in weeks, and her fear of the dark had nearly faded.
The doctor picked up the crutches and walked to the door. "Well Kahle, I wish you the best of luck with the rest of your recovery. If you have any further problems, you know where to find me."
"Doctor, wait one moment, I'd like to thank you." Gaepora called after him, and he went to talk to him. Owlan turned to face Kahle, and she removed her hand from his shoulder to stand on her own.
"You're doing incredible. This is the first major injury this place has seen in decades, and you have overcome it greatly." he said encouragingly.
Kahle sighed. "I'm just so over it all. I'm so glad it's over."
"Me too." he smiled, and put his hand on Kahle's waist. She put her hand on his shoulder, to make it seem like support.
Asha walked over. "Hey guys. So, Kahle, I was gonna go get some lunch, do you wanna come with me?"
Removing her hand from Owlan and stepping towards Asha, Kahle nodded. "That sounds awesome." As she headed for the door, she turned again towards Owlan and whispered, "I'll come find you later. After all, we have to discuss some of the stuff I missed in class, since we haven't yet talked about it." as she said this, she gave him a small wink.
"Looking forward to discussing school matters." he blushed. Kahle and Asha left the room as Gaepora returned.
Kahle had really only missed a month of class. That first 4 weeks after her attack, she was so vulnerable she could hardly get up to use the restroom. But once she was able to walk on crutches, she insisted on returning to class so she didn't miss anything else. And though both the headmaster and Owlan believed she needed more rest, they didn't dare try to stop her.
Closing the door behind him, headmaster Gaepora approached Owlan. "So, you know her much better than I thought I did."
"Sir, I'm sorry?" Owlan replied, taken off-guard by this remark.
"Kahle. You seem to have a much closer relationship with her than I do." Gaepora repeated. This made Owlan slightly nervous. Did the headmaster suspect?
"I've known Kahle since birth. I almost took her in as my own when her parents died. I thought I knew her like a father would, but you are clearly much closer. You are, after all, her instructor, and I do see you spending a lot of time with her."
Owlan's pulse quickened greatly with this. He swallowed hard and tried to sound as normal as possible. "S-Sir? What exactly are you saying?"
Gaepora let out a long breath. "I want to know how she is, really. On the outside, she acts tough, as if nothing is bothering her, but she's led one of the most brutal lives ever. Is she doing alright?"
It took everything Owlan had to hold in his sigh. The headmaster did not suspect. "Oh, well, she's holding up, I know that. Apart from a few scares, I believe she really is doing all right."
"Ah, good, good." Gaepora said. "Though she doesn't seem like she has many friends. You're her instructor, so I wouldn't really count you as her 'friend', and Asha, but not until recently."
"I know that she, by choice, ignores the other kids at school." Owlan replied confidently. Kahle had told him herself that she thought she just wouldn't fit in with anyone else, so why bother?
"Yes, but that's what troubles me. She hasn't even attempted to make friends. Does she get much attention from boys? I know 16 year olds are always eager to jump into love." Gaepora said. Owlan tried to keep his cool, as he knew the next few things out of his mouth would be lies.
"Um, no, not that I've seen."
"Well, perhaps a little attention would be good for her. Maybe you could find a boy that she might like and try to, I don't know, set them up?"
Owlan nearly laughed. This situation was so ironic that it was almost funny. But what would he tell the headmaster?
"Um, well, shouldn't we leave the choice to her?" he replied.
"Yes, of course, but I'm just worried about her. Are there any boys she talks to?"
Owlan thought about this. He'd never seen Kahle talk to anyone, really. Only him. The boys in her class didn't bother to talk to her either, which he thought was absurd, given how beautiful she was.
"No, no she doesn't talk to any of them." he said. "Not that I see, anyway." he added quickly.
Gaepora nodded, while clearly thinking hard. "Ah, well, all I want is for her to be happy."
"Believe me, sir, me too." Owlan said, immediately flushing after the words left his mouth. "But, I, uh, I think she is happy." he tried to redeem himself. Luckily, Gaepora didn't notice anything odd about the slip-up.
"Really?" he asked. "How so?"
Because of the way she looks when she sleeps, the serenity present upon her face. Because she hasn't had a cold-sweating nightmare-ish fit in a month. Because she isn't one to despair in the past, she is one to plan for the future.
Although Owlan wanted to say all those things, he answered with, "I'm not sure, I just know she is."
The headmaster sighed. "I trust your word, as you know her better than I do. And besides, you're right. We shouldn't force something on her that would make her uncomfortable."
Owlan merely nodded in agreement.
"Perhaps I'll just have a quick chat with her, let her know I, as the headmaster, am always available for support. And I might suggest she befriends my daughter, Zelda." Gaepora looked out the window thoughtfully. "They aren't that far apart in age, you know."
"That sounds like a good idea." Owlan said. "But, if I may suggest something, please don't take any offense from it."
Gaepora looked at him and nodded slightly, showing he was paying attention.
"Don't push her to anything. Don't go over the limit with Kahle. I know she doesn't like when people think she is weak." Owlan spoke quietly, as if walking on thin ice, but the headmaster smiled.
"You're absolutely right. I will take small steps, as we should all." he said casually. He began to walk towards the door.
"Oh, Owlan, one more thing." the headmaster turned back around.
"Yes?"
Gaepora smiled. "Thank you for all your help with Kahle. I don't think I've ever seen someone so passionately dedicated about helping a student."
Owlan flushed. "Just doing my job, sir."
The headmaster turned the knob and left the room. Owlan sat down on the bed and brushed his hand through his hair. That was close, he thought. He didn't know what he'd do if the headmaster found out about his relationship with Kahle. But he didn't want to think about that now. For a moment, he was happy.
Meanwhile, Kahle and Asha had walked to the Bazaar and sat down for lunch. Several people had come up to Kahle and given their well-wishings for seeing her not on crutches anymore.
Once they'd gotten their food, Kahle noticed Asha kept looking over to the Scrap Shop.
"How's it going with Gondo?" she asked with a smirk.
Asha snapped out of her daze, blushed, and looked away. "It's, it's really good." she smiled very wide. "He's more than I could've hoped for. He's kind and loving and he listens to me."
Kahle smiled. She really was glad to see Asha so happy. She was, after all, the only friend she really had.
Before she could say another word, Asha sat bolt-right up in her chair and her face lit up. Kahle looked to what she was looking at, and Gondo had just appeared from behind the Scrap Shop counter. He was wiping grease off his hands on a rag when he saw Asha, and his face beamed just as Asha's did. He removed his safety goggles and nearly sprinted over to their table.
Gondo was one of the tallest people in all of Skyloft. His family had owned the Scrap Shop for 5 generations, and he inherited it when his father passed. His skin was darker than normal due to many hours in the sun building things as a kid and also grease that has rubbed into his skin.
When he got to their table, he lifted Asha out of her chair and wrapped her in a hug. The only people that paid attention to them were smiling at the affection. She kissed him on the mouth and sat back down. He pulled up a chair and sat close to her.
"Gondo, this is my friend Kahle. Kahle this is my..." Asha giggled. "...boyfriend."
Gondo smiled and kissed her cheek. Then, he extended his hand and shook Kahle's. "It's nice to meet you. She's told me all about you. I suppose I'm glad to see you're out of the crutches, although I never saw you in the crutches."
Kahle laughed. "It's the thought that counts. It's nice to meet you too. And, likewise, Asha has told me all about you too."
"All good things I hope." he said, wrapping his arm around Asha's waist.
"No, I'm telling her what a control freak you are!" Asha joked. "Everything always has to be perfect, and if it's not, he will redo something until it is."
"Not true, not even a little!" Gondo replied, planting a kiss on her. Then, he stood up. "Well, back to the 'ole salt mine."
"You wish you were strong enough to work in a salt mine." Asha teased. To add to the plentiful kisses between the pair, Gondo took Asha's hand and kissed it, bowing deeply.
"It is all to please my fair lady, even though she can be quite the little prick at times." he smiled to show his playful manner. Asha giggled.
Kahle smiled at him. "It was nice to meet you."
"You as well, see you girls later!" he said, returning to his counter to help a customer. Asha stared dazingly at the counter. Hitting her arm lightly, Kahle laughed.
"You're insane."
"I'm insanely in love!" Asha squealed. She shifted in her seat and sighed. "I mean, knowing that I have someone who, who..."
Kahle smiled. "I know."
Just as she finished talking, the bell at the lunch counter rang; their order was ready. Asha stood up to go and retrieve it, but Kahle intervened.
"Please, let me. I'm happy to be able to do it again." she said, and Asha sat back down.
Walking over to the counter, a bright glare hit Kahle in the eyes. She turned to see the source of it, and it was the fortune teller. His hands were waving over his crystal ball, though no one was at his stall. All of the sudden, Kahle instinctively drew her hands up to her ears. She felt blood rush to them, not in a humiliation way, but in a warning way.
She thought about what it could mean. She had only felt this one other time, though she couldn't recall the time. Shaking her head, Kahle took her lunch and dropped the tip in the jar, and returned to the table.
Through the rest of lunch, she was distracted. She kept glancing at the fortune teller, who was still furiously involved with his crystal ball.
"...And he's just so considerate of my feelings, and he actually listens when I talk, oh, don't get me wrong, I let him talk, of course, I'm not one of those psycho girlfriends who only talks about themselves, and the things he says are just so interesting too, Kahle? Kahle, are you even listening to me?" Asha said, catching Kahle's quick glances away.
"What? Oh, sorry." Kahle lied. She didn't mind Asha's constant talking, but she was too hung up on the fortune teller. "I'm just a bit preoccupied. Would you mind if I just caught up with you later?"
Asha shrugged. "Sure. It looks like Gondo has something new that he wanted to show me, anyway. Some sort of robot he got from his grandpa or something. I can't wait to see what it is! Bye!" she got up so fast, her chair tipped. As eager as Kahle was to investigate, she couldn't put aside manners. She fixed Asha's chair and returned the dishes to the counter.
Then, as fast as her weak legs could muster, Kahle rushed over to the fortune teller booth.
As she approached, she swore she saw the color of the crystal ball change briefly, then back to foggy white.
"Ooooohhhh!"
Kahle jumped. Her heart was beating quickly when she saw the fortune teller looking up at her from behind his transparent purple curtains.
"Curious girl, unique girl, fearful girl, yes, for only 10 rupees, I can tell you your future!" he squealed again.
"Oh, um, I, uh..." she tried to get her thought out, but she was captivated by his huge, bright blue eyes. It seemed as though they were staring straight through her soul, seeing all her secrets. Again, her hands shot instinctively up to her pointed ears.
"Call me Sparrot, your guide to your future!" he exclaimed. "Is this your first time venturing to this booth of mysteries?"
Kahle nodded.
"Ahh, then I will make your first insight free!" Sparrot said, rising his tone as he finished the sentence.
Kahle sat down timidly on the cushion across from him. "Okay, thank you."
"Now, what is your name?"
"Kahle."
"And you are a student at the Knight Academy?"
"Yes."
"Now, if you would, please place your hands very close to the crystal ball, and clear your mind."
Kahle did as told.
"Ahhhhhhh..." Sparrot began, "I see you've had a troubled past, very troubled... Your parents died when you were young... You had difficulty adapting to your adoptive parents... Your loftwing is your best friend, very rare, shows much about your character..."
As Sparrot continued saying facts about Kahle, she became worried he would sense about her and Owlan. And just as she wished it wouldn't happen, the fortune teller squealed.
"Forbidden love! How romantic!" He opened his eyes wide. Kahle blushed hard.
"Um, please don't-"
"Oh, I won't. I know many secrets for which I cannot entrust to another soul, it's apart of my job!" he reassured her. His eyes shut tight once again and he continued.
"An attack, brutal, unnecessary, not long ago... You've discovered many truths of the past, truths that could be harmful for a community, truths deliberately hidden from the public..." he brought his voice down to a whisper. "You have seen and learned things that were meant to stay hidden, meant to never see the light."
Kahle remembered the Triforce book and her mother's note. You are different, Kahle. Her mother had specifically told her what made her unique. Her Hylian blood was never meant to see the light.
"Can you tell me anything about, about my attack? Or my attacker?" she asked, her voice quavering.
He waved his hands slowly over the crystal ball, slightly brushing Kahle's. "Oh, foggy, unclear, no. Your attacker is sure to cover his tracks, and he is never seen by anyone. I am not able to receive anything more."
Kahle let out a long breath of disappointment. She was hoping to find out more about her greatest unknown fear.
"But, ah, AHH!" he exclaimed loudly. Several people looked over, but Kahle didn't worry about them, she wanted to know what he saw. His eyes grew wide. Kahle felt her hands trembling just above the crystal ball. Sweat began to collect on her forehead.
"I sense... In your far future... Danger."
Kahle gasped. "D-Danger, what? Why? How? What danger?"
Sparrot looked at her. "Unclear... Foggy..."
"Why is it foggy? You're telling me I'm gonna be in danger but you can't even see how?"
"Run." he said quietly under his breath.
"What?"
"Run." Sparrot repeated gravely. "That is all I can see. A danger will be thrust upon you in a difficult and most inconvenient time, and all you must do is run."
Kahle glared at him skeptically. "That's it?"
"Foggy, most unclear, run." he repeated.
Kahle scoffed and stood up. "It's a good thing I didn't pay for this, what a waste of time."
"Foggy, most unclear, run."
Before he repeated it again, Kahle stormed away. She couldn't believe he could still be in business when he couldn't provide accurate details, which is what fortune tellers were supposed to do.
Just as she was about to leave the Bazaar, she heard behind her, "Oh, oh! Miss! Have a nice day! Come again soon!"
"As if." she whispered.
When she walked out into the sunlight and warm weather, her mood instantly improved. As she was about to head back to the Academy, Kahle made a sharp right turn, going down a wooden path that no one ever used. She continued further on it, and soon, she stopped in one place.
It was the place of her attack.
As she looked all around her, it came back vividly. But, for the first time since, she wasn't scared. It was like she had an invisible support behind her, making her feel safe. She couldn't quite say what it was, but the support helped keep her head straight.
Kahle continued down the path, walking confidently toward the area of grass near the abandoned platform. It was a little bit of a hike from the Bazaar, and everything else, which was why no one ever went there.
She walked to the edge of the platform and looked down at the clouds below her. The Surface was just beyond there, yet no one could go there. Not even the Knights would go near the barrier. It was rumored that if you fell off Skyloft, into the cloud barrier, you would just disappear. That is what the adults taught the children from a very young age.
But Kahle didn't believe it. She didn't know whether it was the Triforce book that gave her optimism or just her clear head, but she believed there was more than just this life. She believed there was more to the world than the Skyfolk, or the islands that perched far atop the cloud barrier. There was opportunity below. A chance for a new life.
She wasn't too reckless, though. She did know there had to be dangers below, which made her less eager to find out. Plus, she had a great life here. She wasn't willing to give that all up yet.
Raising her gaze to look out at the sky, Kahle brought her two index fingers to her mouth and whistled loudly, creating an echo across the skies.
Almost instantly, a gleam of bright yellow came shooting across the skies towards Skyloft. It was Octavian, Kahle's rare loftwing whom she hadn't seen in almost 5 months. She couldn't care for him while she was injured, so Owlan, Asha, and headmaster Gaepora all took turned caring for the majestic creature.
As he came soaring up, Kahle nearly saw her bird smile. His expression was beaming at the sight of his master, and as soon as he landed, he began nuzzling his beak around Kahle's shoulders.
"Hey, buddy!" she nearly screamed. She'd never been so glad to see anyone in her life. "I've missed you so much! I'm sorry I was away for so long, but I'm not going anywhere now!"
Octavian gave a cheerful screech and flapped his wings playfully. Kahle scratched under his wings gave him a big hug. Then, she mounted him.
The loftwing began rising immediately, and Kahle didn't have to tell him where she wanted to go. He was already taking her to her island near the storm cloud. For just a short time, Kahle wanted to be alone. All through her recovery, she'd had someone at her bedside nearly all times during the day, mostly Owlan.
With the wind in her face, Kahle let her hands go of Octavian for a few seconds and glided them through the air as they sped towards the storm cloud. Her head was free of all worry, and she was happy.
3 months later
The sun peered forcefully through the window, and Owlan woke with a bittersweet feeling in his heart.
Today was the final day of the school year.
Normally, Owlan would see his students off to the intermediate level with a light heart and await the next school year anticipating his new students, but this year was different. This was the final day he would have Kahle, his very own girlfriend, in class.
Their secret affair had been going on officially for about 4 months now, although their bond was present ever since they first met.
Age was not a problem with the two, but their statuses was. If they were found out, Owlan would immediately be fired and maybe banished from Skyloft. Kahle would be seen disgracefully for the rest of her life, because even though they are in love, it is a scandalous affair, something Skyloft has never seen before.
Owlan got out of bed, dressed in his usual robes, and headed down to the dining hall for breakfast. It was still early, but he predicted that the beginner and intermediate level students would be up early, enjoying their last day of school before the 3 month break. The expert level students had this day off, which most would use preparing for the Wing Ceremony which would be the following day.
At the expert level in the Knight Academy, most of the training is hands-on. Headmaster Gaepora teaches that class, and frequently, 3 times a week, they are at the Sparring Hall next door, doing real-action combat, training them for the next step in the process to Knighthood. Not all children in Skyloft attend the Knight Academy, only those wishing to pursue Knighthood. Every year, the majority of the children enlist, only a few doing private schooling and running other businesses.
The intermediate and beginner level students learn the art and discipline of Knighthood, and about the history of Skyloft. Of course, Owlan knows much more than he is allowed to teach. He and Horwell are only allowed to teach the basics of history, such as the goddess Hylia and how Skyfolk have evolved throughout many years.
Nobody except Kahle knows that Owlan has knowledge of the real truth behind Hylia's flee to the skies. It's a secret he holds dearly.
While walking through the upstairs hall of the Academy, Owlan slightly lingered around Kahle's door, hoping she would come out and walk with him. He waited only a few seconds as to not draw attention to himself, and when she didn't show, he moved on.
He descended the stairs to find several of his male students tossing a ball around in the hall.
"Hey instructor! Happy last day of school!" one tall blonde boy said to Owlan.
He laughed. "Same to you Geoffrey."
Geoffrey tossed the ball to Owlan. "So, who's got the top spot? Me, or Dain?" he said with a grimly excited attitude. Through the course of the year, he and one other boy in the beginner class had been fighting for the #1 rank in their class. Kahle was in third.
Owlan threw the ball down the hall to a tall brunette boy, who yelled, "Yeah, did I win?" he was Dain.
"Nothing will be revealed until the end of the day today. But maybe if you two could throw better, I would take that into consideration." Owlan said jokingly, but the two boys looked at each other alarmingly, and began whipping the foam ball at each other, trying to throw fastest. Owlan ducked out of the way and continued his walk to the dining hall.
On that day, it was as if you could hear the life all around you. People talking could be heard from far away, birds were chirping, children were playing, it was a good day. Lots of parents were coming to help their children at the Academy pack for the summer. Owlan was the only instructor who stayed at the Academy, since Horwell and Gaepora both had families to go home to. There was the rest of the staff, the kitchen maids, cleaning crew, and so on, but they minded their own business. All of the students went home to their families, except for one.
Kahle did not have a family to go home to. She could return to her stepparents' old home, but she feared it would be too painful for her. She would stay in her dorm until a week before her intermediate year began, which is when she would move to another room.
Owlan was excited that Kahle was staying there, although it was in poor taste. It meant he would get to see her more, which he greatly anticipated.
And since the headmaster already lived at home full-time, he would not be a looming presence over Kahle and Owlan's forbidden relationship. He wouldn't even have to worry about Horwell catching them.
It was the greatest day of his life!
Entering the dining hall, Owlan sat alone at a table near the window. Several of the intermediate girls were staring at him. They waved and said hello to their old instructor.
"Hello girls, it's good to see you again." he replied politely, and they all giggled furiously. It was clear they all still had crushes on him, but little did they know, Owlan was taken. And, as he planned, he would be for a long time.
Kahle sat on the edge of Asha's bed as her blonde friend's suitcase lay open next to her.
"And Gondo promised he would let me hang out with him all the time at work. I love it cuz his arms get all swollen and veiny, and it's soooooo attractive! And I'm gonna meet his parents for the first time! Eek! I'm so nervous! He said his dad is like never home because he works on some island far away, and his mom is always home cleaning Gondo's clothes and getting the grease out of them. Oh man, what if she doesn't like me?" Asha said suddenly, her eyes widening.
Kahle scoffed. "If Gondo loves you, she's gonna love you."
Asha continued folding her clothes. "But that's the thing, I don't know if Gondo loves me. He's never said it, and I, of course, am not going to be the first one to say it, although I do feel it, Kahle, I do! What do I do if he never says it?"
"He's gonna say it."
"But what if he's just leading me on? What if he doesn't love me, or even like me! What if he's got his eye on some other girl, like that bimbo at the item check counter?" Asha squealed.
Kahle used her most stern voice. "Asha, you're being ridiculous. She's the same age as us, you used to be friends with her! Don't get too paranoid or Gondo might actually leave you."
Asha gasped.
"And I sure hope you don't act like this around him."
"No, no, of course not. I just get crazy sometimes cuz I just like him so much. I'd say it's love, but he hasn't freaking said it yet!" she screamed.
Rolling her eyes, Kahle looked at the room around her. 9 months ago, this was the room of the girl she hated. Now, after sucessfully completing the last day of school, her best friend packed it up for the summer.
"By the way, we will still hang out over summer. I'll be sure to give you and," she lowered her voice into a sarcastic whisper, "you-know-who some alone time, but I am your best friend and we are hanging out."
"Of course." was Kahle's only reply. She laughed at Asha's perky attitude and looked forward to a break from school. But what she was most looking forward to was, as Asha said, spending much quality time with Owlan. It will be the first time that they will have real alone time together since Kahle healed.
"There's gonna be like, no one here except you two." Asha claimed skeptically. Then, she pushed her suitcase to the floor and sat next to Kahle. "You guys are gonna be the only ones on the top floor."
Kahle didn't even pretend like she didn't know what Asha was talking about. It was obvious.
"Hold on," Asha began, "you have thought about it, right?"
When Kahle didn't answer, Asha pursued.
"Oh, come on you liar. Every single girl on Skyloft has thought about it with Owlan. He's the single hottest guy by an exceptionally large margin, and that's even including my obsession with my boyfriend."
Kahle blushed. She knew that most girls had a crush on Owlan, and she sort of took advantage of him. She tried not to think about the other girls as much, or she would become too insecure and push him away.
"So? Do you think you would have sex with him?"
"Asha!" Kahle yelled, hitting her in the arm, despite the fact that she was thinking the same exact thing."
"Answermeohmygosh!" Asha said, getting really giddy.
Kahle took a deep breath. "I think I would, but it's way too early. I'd have to know that we are going somewhere before I do anything too..." she paused, "...drastic."
Asha nodded. "I get it. I'm totally the same way." Then, she stood up and continued packing.
About an hour later, Asha had completely finished packing up her room. They stood outside of Kahle's door and hugged.
"You can come and stay if you ever want to, like if you and Owlan get in a fight or something." Asha offered.
"Thanks, I'll keep that in mind." Kahle smiled. Then, at the end of the hallway, Gondo appeared, followed closely by Owlan. Gondo ran and picked up Asha in a hug, and Owlan walked nonchalantly over to Kahle. He stood next to her and smirked.
"He almost strangled me trying to find her." he said.
Kahle quickly glanced at him and smiled. Then, she cleared her throat, breaking the couple apart.
"Gondo, always a pleasure." Kahle said, saluting him like a captain.
He smiled at her and said hello. Then, he picked up Asha's suitcase in one hand and her in the other. "Let's get out of here."
Asha smiled and laughed in response, and the two disappeared down the staircase. Then, Kahle and Owlan were alone. He wrapped his hands around her waist and she pressed her hands on his chest.
"Now, we have the whole summer." she said quietly, just before he pulled her in for a kiss.
After pulling apart, Kahle led him into her room, holding his hand. As she tidied things up, he looked around. He never really got to see what her room looked like, he'd only been in there a few times.
When he wandered over to her desk, he noticed a journal lying open.
"May 30th, tomorrow is the last day of my beginner year. I'm excited to move on, but I'm somewhat dreading summer. The break will be nice, but I won't have anywhere to go. I have no family to go home to, the only thing..."
Before he could finish the passage, Kahle grabbed the journal and slammed it shut.
"Hey, I was-" he said before realizing who he was talking to.
"You were?"
"Nothing. I was nothing." he said innocently. Kahle went to her closet and stored the journal deep within.
"Good, because that's private." she said, not really sounding angry. They both sat on her bed and he pulled her in close to him.
"Kahle, are you upset that you have to stay here?" he asked.
She hesitated. When she didn't answer, Owlan stroked her hair.
"We don't have to talk about it."
"Thank you." she whispered, clearly bothered.
After a while, Owlan began stroking her hair again.
"Kahle?" he said quietly.
She moaned to show she was listening.
"I just want you to know, a lot of the things that happened this year, I wasn't expecting. If I could go back, I would try to handle them differently." he said.
She nuzzled her face in the crevice between his neck and shoulder.
"But if there was one thing I wouldn't take back, it's you." he whispered.
With this, Kahle lifted her head to look at him.
"I didn't think this would be the year I found love, but I'm glad I did." he continued. Kahle didn't say anything she just kept looking at him.
"You were unexpected, but I'm okay with that."
Kahle pressed her mouth against his. With all his confessions of love to her, this one was the closest to her heart. Why? She didn't know, but she did know that she loved him with all her heart, and nothing was going to change that.
The Faron Woods were quiet as usual. The distant rushing waters of Lake Floria were insignificant, white noise. A yellow bird pecked at fallen seeds from the trees.
In the rush of a split-second, red and white diamonds were all that appeared around the small bird, and before it could fly away, cold, white hands picked it up.
The white figure held the bird in his hands, delicately.
He cackled coldly. "Oh, I am coming for you, sky maiden. You escaped me once, but I will not be fooled by your deceit. Your pure Hylian blood is your dead giveaway. No Knights will save you this time, the cloud barrier is too large an obstacle for your rescue."
He crushed the corpse of the bird in his hand and, still cackling, disappeared on the spot.
WOOOOOH foreshadowing (duh duh duh!)
