Sarah POV

I stare at the black and white tiles. They are spotless, and it is clear that I am the first one to use this cell. What a comforting thought. I am not sure why John is convinced that I work with the Mogadorians. He was screaming at me, speaking of papers and files. Honestly, I do not even know what a Mogadorian file looks like.

"Six showed me your room" he had said.

What did Six have to do with anything? And why was she in my room?

I remember that time she smiled at Nine in that evil manner, and her smirking at my reaction to breakfast. I remember hearing her tossing and turning in her bed, and then becoming very still, like a switch had been flicked. It was after the tossing that she became so puerile.

"Get a hold of yourself, Sarah" I murmured to myself.

I think back to the criminology class I took at school. The pieces are all here, I just need to make sense of them. The incident at the lake when Six saved us from that explosion – instinct, she called it. Her odd disappearance from the elevator, and then her appearance in the penthouse, everything normal. The white flash in her eyes when she smirked at Nine.

Everything I can think of points to Six, but there is no link. Wait, that flash. I know that look. Well. I may not be Loric like the rest of them but I have spent a great deal of time in the company of Mogadorians. Their eyes used to flash like that, and any photos taken of them developed with reptilian white pupils instead of human eyes.

To confirm my theory I whip out my cell phone – John always does act before he thinks – and search online for any video of the happenings at the school. That seems so long ago now. I quickly locate one, it seems that Nine is not as thorough with his identity blocking as he thinks, and scan the video for Mogadorians. When one pops up I pause the video, searching for the eyes. White.

So why are Six's eyes flashing like the Mogadorians' all of a sudden?

I can understand that bad things happened to her at the base, but maybe the damage runs deeper than we originally thought. Did six plant incriminating evidence in my room? I think back to when John and I were talking on my bed and he sensed somebody.

"We're not alone" he said.

Why did he not just call Ella in? I could see her pink shoes through the door. Unless it wasn't Ella he sensed. Six must have been hiding in my room. I do not know if Six has sided with the Mogadorians or if she is somehow being controlled or threatened by them, but I need to warn the others.

I send a text to John: We need to talk. Now. Emergency.

Surely he will respond to that.

John POV

I sit on the couch in the living room, my hand subconsciously snaking around behind a girl that isn't there. I pull the offending hand back sharply, and cradle it to my chest. Sarah.

"Alright man, we've got school in a day and you're still moping about on the couch" Eights voice comes from behind me.

I moan incoherently and turn over, shutting out the rest of the world. I hear Eight nearing me, his bare feet tapping closer, before he pushes me off the couch. I hit the floor, hard.

"Come on, John. We're all going out to get books and get out of the house. You're coming. So take a shower, you smell like a lawnmower" he states indignantly.

I stand up and numbly move to the bathroom. Eight is right, I need to get over Sarah, she has clearly moved on.

My pocket vibrates and I pull out my phone. I have a message from Sarah, it reads: We need to talk. Now. Emergency.

I want to believe her, I do. And the thought of visiting her tugs me towards the hallway but I stop. Sarah is working with the Mogs. She doesn't love me. She never did.

I just need to forget.

Eight POV

After forcing John to pull himself together I seek out the others. I find Ella and tell her our plan, as well as Marina, and seek out Six and Nine. Neither of them is in the living room so I head up to the balcony. They're sitting on the edge, talking.

I peer out at them, my vision impaired by the sun, and see Six smiling. I can't remember the last time she smiled. Maybe this is a good thing. Six is slowly becoming herself. Or, at least a better version of the person she was when we rescued her. And maybe a little extra time with Nine isn't hurting, either.

I grin at the thought and walk towards them. They hear me coming and turn around, easy smiles on their faces.

"Hey guys" I start, "we're gonna head out to get some school stuff soon, in about 20 minutes?"

"Yeah, definitely buddy" Nine replies

"H-how is john?" Six mumbles, hesitantly. The broken girl is back.

"Not great, but I have a plan, and it involves you and Nine" I say softly, hoping not to spook her. "It involves that pub down the road, a new girl, and a lot of alcohol. You in?"

"Aw, getting Johnny smashed, I'm all for it!" Nine exclaims "When do we start?"

Marina POV

We all set off down the road to grab some supplies for school, Nine and Eight are whispering to each other and the look on their faces is making me uneasy. They're up to something, but I don't want to intrude.

I tuck my head down and focus on the cracks in the side walk, they are uneven, and I need to step two times before coming across the next one. I glance to the side and see John staring in front of us, eyes unfocused. I too, look up, and see Six and Ella conversing cheerfully.

"John, I-"

"Alright Johnny boy, I know Sarah was everything and all, but Eight and I have a plan to cheer you up", Nine interrupts me.

I don't like where this is going, it's getting dark, and we should really just do what we set out to and head home.

"Yeah" Eight chimes in "What better way to fix a frown than with a little help from doctor vodka."

Drinking? I'm not sure this is a good idea. I start to speak but am whisked away by Six, who gives me a knowing glance and a wink before turning to the boys.

"Don't get him too smashed, we'll be back in two hours" she smirks, "Have fun"

I am ushered away by Six and Ella, not given a chance to look back

Time skip ~~~~~~

When we finally return, arms loaded with heavy school books, Six makes me and Ella wait outside whilst she ventures in to the pub. I can see John with a girl on his lap through the heavily tinted window, and jerk my chin back. So this is what they meant.

I ignore the bad feeling in my stomach and find a bench to sit on with Ella. And we wait.

And we wait and wait and wait. We wait for almost an hour before Six re-emerges, Nine, Eight and John in tow. Six's shirt is ripped and Eight's hair is mussed. Nine has a hungry glint in his eyes and he half carries John out the door. I knew this was a bad idea.

John is asleep, Nine and Six and laughing raucously, Eight approaches me, but I turn away from him, exhaling. I pull Ella closer and begin walking home.

I miss Sarah already.
