Blended Chapter 10

Here is an update. I hope you enjoy.

Liddyville2012: How will Cortney react? We shall see? Can she hold strong against The Sons?

: Someone is in trouble but not yet….we shall see what happens.

XvampiresXwolverineXOmg: Cort has wool over her eyes. I don't think she is ready to see how much of an influence The Sons has over her son.

HGRHfan35: Yep you know trouble is always around the corner.

Guest: Read and see how it works out for now…again….for now.

Mrs. Marie Woods-Winchester: Yep as a mom, I can feel Cort's pain. No mom in their right mind (yep Gemma is nuts…..I'm still Team Gemma!) would want their child in the outlaw lifestyle. (My heart Dean!...Love it! Dean is my fave too.)

NatalieLynn: Hmmm Bryan….not going to be so understanding.

SS82: Thanks! Hope you enjoy this chapter.

Olivia Reigns: Cort is a little blind and naïve. Jax has her wide open. I feel she really thought she had control over Steven and he would honor her wishes and not prospect…

"Mom are you alright?" Steven asked rushing up to her by stepping the broken glass and wine that spilled on the floor.

"What are you doing Steven?" she asked hoarsely as she tugged at the cut. "You are going to college in a few weeks."

"I'm still going mom. It's only an hour away."

Cortney stepped passed the spilled wine and walked to Jax.

"Jax why? You know I do not want this for him." She told him trying not to let her anger show.

"Mom I want this."

Cortney looked back at her son.

"Steven you are only seventeen. You want to spend your life as an outlaw?"

"Guys you can go. I think this is a conversation between Cort, Steven and me." Jax told the guys.

"No. I want them to stay. I want to know what the hell you all were thinking wanting my baby to be a prospect."

"He's not a baby anymore Cortney." Happy told her.

"Yes he is!" she snapped at Happy.

"Mom. I will be fine. This is what I want. I'm still going to college to get my degree."

Cortney shook her head. This could not be happening to her. How could Jax do this to her?

"I won't allow it!" Cortney shouted.

"Cortney we won't let anything happen to him. Steven won't be a full time prospect. Like he said he is in college. We all want him to get his degree. That is important to us." Bobby said trying to calm her down.

"Jax there is no way you thought I would be ok with this did you?" she asked stepping closer to him.

"I knew it would upset you a little but like Bobby said he is still going to college and you know I won't let anything happen to him. I know you will come around." He told her just before putting his arm around her waist. Cortney pulled away. She was not about to let him use his charms to get her to give in. This was her child.

"Wearing a Sons cut will make him a target to anyone you are feuding with. How many times has your clubhouse been shot up?"

"Babe I promise he will be ok." Jax said not answering her question about the clubhouse.

"No Jax. You know that is a promise you can't keep. Steven take the cut off and give it back. You are not doing this."

Steven sucked his teeth as he peeled off the cut and gave it to Happy.

"You sure about this?" Happy asked Steven.

"I'm his mom Happy and I say no."

"You know he will be eighteen in a couple of weeks and he can make his own decisions." Happy told her.

"Yes and he can move out my house if he is hell bent on prospecting when he turns eighteen cause I'm not going to have it under my roof." Cortney knew she would never let Steven prospect no matter how old he would become. The mood became somber as everyone shuffled out the house except Jax. Cortney was so mad at him. Not speaking to him, she went into the kitchen to clean up the glass and wine she dropped.

"I'm still prospecting." Steven told Jax later that night after Cortney went to bed. Steven was teaching Jax how to play Call of Duty.

"I kind of figured you would. You gave up to easily when your mom told you to return the cut."

"She doesn't have to know. I will just keep the cut at the clubhouse."

"I know we talked about this in length in the past and I really had to think if I wanted you to prospect or not because I knew Cort would not like it but you are your own man now and would be excellent in the club but I need to know that you are truly sure. This will break her heart and she may never forgive me." Jax said putting down the PlayStation remote looking at Steven intently.

"Yes I am sure."

"Alright." Jax said picking back up the remote.

Jax quietly crawled into bed next to Cortney and pulled her into his arms. She slowly stirred awake and looked up at him.

"Why?" she whispered to him.

"Because he wanted it and the guys all agreed he would be a great addition."

"You didn't think of what I wanted." She asked as a tear rolled down her cheek. Jax leaned over and kissed the tear away.

"I did Cort but he will be an adult in a few weeks. He can make his own decisions. You can't hold onto him forever. You need to let him grow up." He said softly kissing her cheek again.

"I can't let him go."

"You have to baby. You think I would let anything happen to him? He would be doing grunt work nothing serious." He told her running his fingers slowly and lightly up and down her arm.

"I just can't let him do it. He is not fit for the lifestyle."

Jax didn't answer as he pulled her closer to him. If she only knew how much her son, was a natural and was Sons material.

"Babe you home?" Jax called when he walked into the house.

"Upstairs." She yelled downstairs.

Jax ran upstairs and found Cortney in Steven's empty room sitting on the floor with a bottle of wine next to her and drinking a glass. He sat down on the floor next to her.

"Cort…..You knew this would come one day."

Cortney sniffed. "I didn't think it would happen so soon. It seems like just yesterday he was Thomas and Abel's age."

Jax put his arm around Cortney. Steven and Joseph had found an apartment together close to their college about thirty minutes from Charming. Jax knew Cortney would be upset and she was pissed at her ex-husband who for Steven's eighteenth birthday paid a year rent in advance on the apartment and furnished it. Cortney knew it was Bryan's way of punishing her and to get Steven away from her and the Sons.

"He will be fine. He is already enjoying his classes and you know he will be home every chance he gets. He is only thirty minutes away. What would you have done if he actually did go to ECU thousands a miles away?"

Cortney poured some more wine in her glass.

"Boys spending the night with Gemma again?" she asked ignoring his question.

"Yeah."

Cortney snuggled closer to Jax.

"We have the house to ourselves. Let's go skinny dipping in the pool." Jax said taking the glass from her hands. Cortney smiled at the thought. That should help her feel better and take her mind off that her only child had left the nest.

Steven parked his car at the garage and he and Joseph removed their cut from the back seat and put it on when they got out the car. Joseph was also prospecting with Steven. They both made sure they did not have classes on Friday as they would always drive to Charming after studying and doing whatever schoolwork was due for school. They both fell into a routine of school during the week, prospecting, and visiting family on the weekends. The club had them mostly doing grunt work around the clubhouse or running errands. Steven had used all the graduation money he received and put a hefty down payment on a Dyna Switchback Harley. Joseph had enough money saved and brought himself a Dyna Wide Glide. They both kept the bikes at the garage as their moms did visit them at their apartment from time to time. So far, they had successfully kept it from their parents that they were prospecting with The Sons of Anarchy.

"Yall ready to hit the road?" Jax asked them as he tossed them their keys to their bikes.

"Yeah….where are we heading?" Joseph asked.

"Oakland." Jax responded. "We are going to have a sit down with The Mayans."

Steven felt a lump form in his throat. "The Mayans?" he asked making sure he heard right. He had killed one of them. How could they be having a sit down? Seeing the slight look of fear on Steven's face Jax walked up to him and pat his back.

"It's going to be alright. One thing you have to learn in this business is that nothing is personal. It is all about business. War does not usually last forever. We are having a sit down to go over terms for peace." Jax told him. Jax words did not make him feel any better but he knew he needed to get over it if he was ever to be a Son. Steven and Joseph climbed onto their bikes, started their bikes after putting on their helmets and followed behind the Sons to Oakland.

Marcus Alvarez the leader of the Mayans eyed Steven and Joseph as they stood up by the picnic table where they were having the sit down.

"New prospects?" he asked Jax.

Jax nodded.

"You are going to have more Latinos in the Sons than we have." Marcus chuckled.

Jax smirked not correcting him on Steven's race.

Steven found himself actually calm when he saw the Mayans. He thought seeing them would have an effect on him but he felt nothing. His face was stone as he gazed upon each Mayan at the table and the Mayans standing guard around the area of the nearly empty park. The sit down was uneventful and they were soon on their way back to Charming.

"You guys did good today. I think you two are ready for some more responsibilities." Jax told Joseph and Steven as they walked into the clubhouse. Happy was especially proud of Steven as he watched him throughout the sit down and he was on point as he constantly scan the area for any trouble, his face showing no emotion. He could not wait to see how Steven and Joseph progress while they prospect. Steven and Joseph took off their jackets to remove their shoulder holsters and guns to hand to Chibs to put up. The guys had finally let them start carrying after hours and hours of target practice.

"You guys are done for the day." Jax said as he poured himself a shot at the bar.

"Alright." Steven said as they hung the keys to their bikes on hooks behind the bar.

"Tell your mom I will be home later." Jax told Steven as he and Joseph headed out the door.

Cortney leaned over and kissed Thomas chubby cheeks as she fed him while he was sitting in his high chair.

"Mom I got my mid-term grades back and I have all A's in all my classes." Steven told Cortney as he stuffed lasagna in his mouth.

"That is awesome Steven!" Cortney smiled at her son. She was so happy he had made an effort to come home to see her on the weekends. Cortney had brought another bed for Steven's former room and made it into a guest room and he slept there on the weekends. Cortney was always extra happy on the weekends when Steven was home. She loved it when the house was full with Jax, Steven, Thomas and Abel.

"You will be on the dean's list you keep it up." Jax told him taking a swig of his beer.

"I plan on it."

"Steven I am so proud of you." Cortney told her son. Steven smiled at his mom and then looked over at Jax who met his gaze. They hated lying to her. Jax looked at Cortney who was just radiant with happiness. He looked at his boys and then Steven again. He was happy too but he wondered how long it would last, as he knew Cortney would find out eventually about Steven and World War III will break out.
