CHAPTER TEN

"Rachel, Lady Hummel, dinner's ready!" Santana yelled from the kitchen, holding a hot pan of enchiladas.

Rachel walked down the stairs wrapped in a blanket with Kurt following behind her.

The four ate their meal and casually talked about things that interested Lia. When Lia finished her food, Santana figured it would be the perfect time to talk to Rachel and figure out what was going on.

"Lia, are you done?" Santana asked.

Lia happily nodded her head and held up her empty plate.

"Good, girl, now go put your dirty dishes in the sink and go clean up your room and be ready for your bath, okay?"

"Okay, Aunt Sanny," Lia picked up her plate and her sippy cup and began walking away.

Santana followed the little girl with her eyes and made sure she completed the task. As Lia headed up stairs, the Latina smiled and quickly got up to get three glasses and a bottle of wine.

"What's the occasion, Satan?" Kurt asked.

"Oh hush up, Kurt. I just want to see what's ailing my good friend here," Santana sat the glasses down and poured each of them some wine.

Rachel looked up with a pout, "Quinn and I are taking a break…"

"What? No way, who put that on the table?" Santana asked, genuinely shocked.

"Me, but that's only because she accused me of cheating on her with Sam!"

"Oh please, like you'd ever be with trouty-mouth! I can't believe the studio even wants you guys to be in a fake relationship! I mean—"

"Santana, how on earth do you know about that?" Kurt shrieked.

"I may or may not have gone through your emails while mi enchiladas were in the oven…" Santana said guiltily.

"Santana!"

"Santana!"

"I'm sorry, it's just no one would tell me anything. It's like I'm you guys' Hispanic maid that just cooks and cleans and looks after Mags. I don't really feel like your friend anymore."

"Santana you know you're more than that. I appreciate you so, so much and I still see you as one of my best friends. I promise to let you in on more about my life if you promise to stop creeping in my personal files."

"Deal," Santana said with a nice smile and a sip of wine.

Same night, Quinn POV:

"You know what's not right, Cedes? The fact that Anna truly loves Hans and he's just playing her! I mean, why can't he just not ask her to marry him and let her live on, huh? Hans doesn't deserve her!"

Quinn was the definition of a hot mess. She was highly intoxicated sitting on the couch watching Frozen. After Quinn returned home the previous night, she cried herself to sleep sobbing about how she was right and how hurt she was. After teaching a full day, including the child of her ex, she came home and indulged in a whole bottle of liquor.

Mercedes is trying to make some coffee and food to sober her best friend up a bit.

Mercedes walks around the couch and brings Quinn a hot cup of coffee, "come on, Q, drink up sweetie."

"I don't need coffee, I don't need Rachel, and I don't need Hans!" Quinn continued to rant.

"Okay Quinn, you still have to go to work tomorrow regardless of your state."

"I live in the state of New York!"

"Alright, come on, you're going to bed." Mercedes lifts Quinn up and throws her over her shoulder.

"I'm not tired! I demand a bed time story, this instant!"

Mercedes just shook her head as she took Quinn to her room. She really hopes her best friend fixes things with Rachel, and soon.

The Next Morning:

Quinn feels like she's been hit by a bus multiple times. She wakes up in her clothes from the previous day.

"Good morning, sunshine" Mercedes quips from the doorway.

"Please, stop screaming," Quinn says groaning while holding her head.

"You're pitiful. Hurry up and get ready for school, I'm not waiting on you miss hangover."

At that, Quinn got out of bed, and a little too quickly, and ran to the toilet and emptied the contents of her stomach.

..

Quinn is sitting at her desk with her head down while wearing sunglasses. Marley walks in and sees the state her best friend is in.

"Oh Q, what did you do?"

"I drank myself into a Frozen stupor," Quinn said flatly.

"Oh, no," Marley came up next to Quinn and began running her fingers through the girl's blonde hair.

Quinn hummed in appreciation; she's always loved how sweet and caring her friend Marley is.

"If you want, you can send your kids to my classroom and you can get a few Z's in." Marley suggested.

"Oh, Mar, you really don't have to do that."

"Judging by how you look, I really do." Marley laughed and gave Quinn a kiss on the head, "enjoy your nap." Marley exited the room and shut the door to give Quinn some resting time.

That Afternoon; Rachel POV:

Rachel is pissed and she believes Kurt did this on purpose. Kurt had a meeting and Santana had rehearsals for her scenes in the play, so Rachel had to be the one to pick up Magnolia, which means she has to face Quinn, the girl she just dumped.

Rachel angrily opened the doors of the school and marched her way to the kindergarten wing. She approached Quinn's classroom and saw it completely dark and empty beanbag chairs.

"Oh, hi Rachel," Marley said from behind her.

"Hi Marley, how are you?"

"I'm good, thanks for asking. I have Quinn's class today because she's not exactly in the correct state to watch after children," Marley said with a slight curl of her lips upward.

"Oh, she's that bad?"

"Oh yeah, sunglasses, sleeping, bad mood; all the symptoms of any Quinn hangover are there."

"Oh my God! I've turned her into an alcoholic!" Rachel said putting her face into her hands.

"No, no, Rachel, calm down. This is not the first time nor the last time Quinn will come to work hung-over." Marley assure laying a hand on Rachel's arm.

Rachel opened her mouth to respond, but was interrupted by a frantic Quinn running out of her classroom.

"Marley, you said just a little nap, not the whole school day!" Quinn said moving her arms frantically.

"Calm down, Quinn. You needed the rest and I didn't mind, you class in gold. It's okay, I promise." Marley eagerly pulled Quinn into a hug.

Rachel was standing next to the pair, watching the whole interaction with a skeptical look. Rachel cleared her throat to make her presence known.

Quinn looked up and was shocked to see Rachel standing in front of her. "W-What are you doing here? It's Thursday, which means Kurt picks Lia up."

"Well, hello Quinn, nice to see you too. I'm fine, thanks for asking."

"I'm sorry. I'm just s-surprised to see you so soon that's all."

"Quinn," Rachel grabbed Quinn's hand, but had a hurt expression on her face after the blonde quickly pulled away. "Really, Quinn?" Rachel gave Quinn a sad glance then turned to address Marley, "Is Lia ready to go?"

"Yeah, I'll go get her," Marley walked away to give the former couple some alone time.

"Rachel, I'm sorry. It's just I can't even touch you without wanting to grab you in my arms and kiss you," Quinn confessed, not sure where her courage came from.

"I feel the same way, but I'm the one who should apologize. I've hurt you so badly that you went and got drunk on a weekday. I'm so, so sorry."

"That was my own fault, I—"

Quinn was cut off by a happy Lia running into her mother's arms.

"Mommy, I didn't know you were getting me today!" Lia said wrapping her arms around Rachel's neck. After Rachel put Lia down, the little girl turned to address Quinn, "Qui—I mean, Ms. Bray! How come we weren't with you today?"

Quinn crouched down so she could level with Lia, "Well, I was super tired, so Ms. Rose let me nap while she watched you guys."

Lia seemed satisfied with the explanation and nodded her head in understanding.

"Quinn, can you meet me tonight so we can talk. We really should talk." Rachel suggested softly while Lia was zoned out.

"The last time we talked, we broke up." Quinn said.

"Quinn," Rachel grabbed Quinn's eyes with her own, "Please."

"Okay, come by my house after Lia goes to sleep."

"Okay," Rachel said with a grin. "Say, goodbye to Ms. Fabray and Ms. Rose," Rachel said, grabbing Lia's hand.

"Bye!" Lia shouted as her and Rachel left.

That Night:

Rachel rang Quinn's bell and was immediately answered by Quinn.

"Hi" Quinn said.

"Hi"

"Please, uh, come in."

Rachel walked into Quinn's apartment and hung up her coat on the rack by the door.

"How's it going?" Quinn said trying to make small talk as they sat down next to each other on the couch.

"Quinn, let's cut to the chase; obviously we can't function without one another, but then again, our relationship will never work without trust and communication."

"Okay I know this, and we're solving one right now; we are communicating. As for the trust, I do trust you, with all my heart; it's that Sam guy that I don't trust. I've never met him, so I have no need or reason to build trust with him."

"Me."

"What?"

"I'm your reason to trust him," Rachel said firmly.

"Okay I get he's your co-star and all it's just—okay, you know what? I'll learn to trust him, for you."

"Quinn," Rachel grabbed Quinn's hands in hers, "I need you to be in this 100%. You can't bail when things get hard, okay? I need your constant love and support in order for my career to skyrocket."

"I get what you're saying Rachel and I promise I'm in this for the long-haul, I just don't know how your career kind of became the main issue. I've never had a problem with your career."

"Quinn, I have been dreaming of being a Broadway star since I could talk. My Broadway career is a huge chunk in my life, along with Lia, and you're great with her. I need you to accept and support all of me and I'm sorry to say that… that…" Rachel was reluctant and struggling to get her words out.

"Rachel, what is it?"

"Sam is a big part of my Broadway career. I may not get anywhere without him."

"W-What do you mean?"

"I'm saying that in order for my show to get the hype it needs, I have to be in a PR relationship with Sam… I know it sounds bad but—"

"Bad? Rachel he's the base of our problems!"

"I know, I know, okay? I know I'm asking a lot of you, but please. I love you so much and I really want to be with you, but this is a consequence of being with me. I am truly sorry."

"Rachel," Quinn whined.

"Quinn, I will never be able to make this up to you, just bear with me, and we can get through this." Rachel was practically on her knees, begging. She had Quinn's hands tightly in hers, not letting the blonde pull away as she intended to.

"How long?"

"Three months, three and a half, tops!"

"PDA?"

"Yes, Quinn that's the point of a PR stunt."

Quinn shot a glare at Rachel.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry."

"I'm agreeing to this now, but—"

Rachel was already screaming and pulling Quinn into a big hug.

"But, you have to give me time. Time to process, time to be pissed, time to be okay with all of this." Quinn said sternly.

"I understand completely," Rachel lifted Quinn's hands and kissed them.

"I'm not sure if I'm angry at you or your amazing voice, or the horrible people over the production of your play."

Rachel had her eyes to the ground with a sad look on her face, "Quinn?"

"Yes?" Quinn grumbled, looking straight ahead staring at nothing in particular.

"Do you still love me?" Rachel asked insecurely.

"More than anything and anyone in the world," Quinn leaned over to place a sweet kiss on Rachel's forehead. "What do you say we grab dinner together tomorrow night?"

Rachel paused and had a guilty look on her face.

"Please don't tell me you already have a date with your boyfriend." Quinn looked at Rachel and Rachel remained quiet, giving Quinn her answer. "Un-fucking-believable!"

Quinn stood up to storm away, but Rachel stood up, standing in front of Quinn, blocking her way. "Quinn, don't run away because things are getting hard. Please, please try. Just try." Rachel coaxed as she wrapped her arms around Quinn, while placing soft kisses on the back of her neck.

Quinn turned around in Rachel's embrace, "For you." Quinn placed a kiss to Rachel's lips and held Rachel in her arms.

The next afternoon at rehearsals:

Rachel was sitting in the auditorium, watching her co-stars rehearse and waiting for Sam.

"Hey, Santana said you wanted to talk, what's up?" Sam asked sliding into the aisle seat next to Rachel.

"Hey, I just wanted to talk about our new relationship…"

Sam started blushing, "Oh yeah, that. Um, are you okay with it?"

"I mean, I guess. I don't really have a choice. It's just… I'm already in a relationship, Sam, okay? And she's not too happy about this, at all."

"She? Oh wow, this is definitely not down your alley. Look, I'll be very respectful and only act on your terms. Above the waist, less than 5 second kisses, you name it."

"Oh my gosh, Sam, this means so much to me. Thank you for being so nice and understanding. Quinn just has some jealousy and trust issues and before this whole thing started, she thought I was cheating on her with you! It's all just a big mess."

"Don't worry, Rachel. I can respect a relationship and I definitely don't want to make things worse between you two. Just know, tonight we have to sit outdoors and we have to hold hands the whole time. I have to touch your back when we walk, and we have to kiss before entering the limo to go home."

"Oh whoa. Okay, I'll call Quinn later just so there are no surprises."

"Okay, you just let me know what to do and I'll do it."

"Thanks Sam," Rachel and Sam stood up to give each other a friendly hug. Rachel was happy that everything for that night was squared away.

QUINN POV:

Quinn had arrived home from work about an hour ago and she ordered some pizza to drown her sorrows in, so she wouldn't think about Rachel's PR date tonight. The doorbell rang, and when Quinn opened the door holding out cash, she was not met with a Pizza man.

"Gee, thanks Quinn," Marley said with a cute laugh.

"Oh sorry, Marley, come in," Quinn opened the door wider allowing her friend to come in. "Have a seat."

"Thanks. So, how are things with you and Rachel?"

"They're better and worse. Better because we're back together I think, but worse because she has a boyfriend."

"Excuse me?"

"She's fake dating one of her co-stars so her Broadway show can get more beef from the media and public."

"Oh Quinn, that's horrible."

"Tell me about it. I mean, if I was fake dating someone she would lose it! It's hypocritical of her to ask this of me."

"It really is unfair to you Quinn. I'm sorry you have to go through this," Marley put her hand on one of Quinn's"

"Thanks Mar," Quinn placed her other hand on top of Marley's.

Quinn and Marley's little hand moment was interrupted by the doorbell.

Quinn cleared her throat and removed the mess of hands so she could get her pizza. Quinn returned with a box of pizza and set it on the table, "So, I'm free tonight, wanna join me for pizza?" Quinn asked.

"I'd love to," Marley said with a big smile.

Quinn was glad she had Marley's sweet and loving support through this obstacle of Rachel's PR relationship.
