10. The seaside battle
June had only kicked around for about a week, yet the hot weather could be felt very clearly, and the ones that could attest to that were the students from True Cross Academy aiming to be Exorcists.
They were having a mission as a class, though to be precise it was more like a training camp, as they were supposed to stay on-site for three days. The mission was to exorcise a Demon bothering a small fishermen town, which lived of only fishing, and, since the demon was scaring the fish away, they couldn't earn any money.
"This heat is way too much for just June," protested Shima from where he was sitting under the parasol, trying to desperately protect himself from the killer rays the sun was shooting down.
"Yeah," agreed Rin, using a paper fan to try and keep himself fresh.
The pinkette, who was sitting next to him, suddenly smirked, and jumped out from under the parasol, screaming, "But I've been waiting for this!"
"Wow! Shima-san's so lively all of a sudden," commented Konekomaru. He was currently in the middle of helping Suguro set up the tents for tonight. They were the only ones working at the moment.
"Of course! It's summer! It's the beach and..." he answered turning around and staring at the stairs connecting the beach and the street.
Walking down at the moment were the girls plus their only female teacher, Kirigakure Shura, with her very skimpy swimsuit, ready to kill every single guy in the vicinity. Fortunately, apart from the students, there was no one else.
"Shut up, you creep," Izumo hissed at the pinkette. "Don't come within a 2 meter radius of me, or I will kill you," and just in case she took out her summing papers, showing him that she was serious. She was wearing a two-piece swimsuit, light purple in color, while around her tight she was wearing a small pouch and in her hand she had her exorcist lifesaver jacket.
"OH, WADATSUMI, GOD OF THE SEAS...! THANK YOOOOU!" cried Shima kneeing down on the sand and raising his arms towards the sea while crying of... happiness?
"Why is he so happy after being told that?" wondered Suguro looking at the boy, having finished what he was doing.
"I really respect that part of him," commented Konekomaru smiling as he watched the pinkette as well.
"What part? The part where he is a masochist?" questioned Rin, laughing at his own joke but, upon seeing the bald boy's serious face, he stopped. "Seriously?!"
Shima turned towards Suguro and smirked at him, thing which gave the other a fright. He ran up to him and put an arm around his shoulder, smiling like an idiot. "Bon, let me tell you something good. When a girl is wearing a swimsuit..." he paused, smirked at his friend and continued what he was saying, "It means she's practically naked."
"What the hell are you talking about..?! Calm down!" shouted the other, his eyes wide in shock. He hastily pushed away his friend, afraid he might get infected with his perverted germs.
"Shima-san, we didn't come here to have fun. It's a mission," explained the bald, glasses boy, standing in between the two.
After a short time, both Shiemi and Yurin walked down the stairs, at a fair distance from one another and not talking to each other. Since the time of the sleepover, they have stopped talking to each other, and no one knew why apart from them.
The blonde girl was wearing a two-piece swimsuit, light pink color, and over it the small exorcist lifesaver jacket. Meanwhile the brunette was wearing a blue zipped hoodie with rolled up sleeves, under a white t-shirt and black shorts, she too had the life-saver on. How was she not hot like that? It was a mystery.
"That's right, Yurin said she wasn't going to wear a swimsuit," Rin said remembering the talk he had with the girl on the bus. After losing at a game of paper-rock-scissors, he was forced to sit next to her, promising that he wouldn't ask what was going on between her and the other girl.
"Why? That's such a cruelty! Being naked is fine!" protested Shima, tears rolling down his eyes. He was being overly dramatic, but he had his stupid logic to go by, furthermore the only fanservice the girl had giving was of her ankles. He couldn't tolerate such a thing, and there was another person who though the same, only in reverse.
"It's not!" shouted Rin, a hint of anger in his tone. It was fine if a girl showed little to no skin, because it should be the one that marries her to get that privilege.
The three boys looked at him confused before the pinkette one smirked, evilly. He understood almost immediately what the dark haired boy was thinking, but he interpreted it his own way, a way which would embarrass the guy more and bring more fun to him. "You want to be the only one seeing her naked, right?" he said, elbowing him on the side while smiling lecherously.
Rin's face exploded in flames, not literately fortunately, before he growled out a 'no'. He had no idea what was wrong with him, he acted like that every time the brunette girl was concerned, he should pull himself together.
Suguro interrupted their little friendly exchange, "By the way, is it fine for you to go around with your tail out?"
"Why you asking?" asked the lad confused, not seeing how it could be a problem since all of them knew about him.
"Fujiwara doesn't know you are a demon and, from the looks of it, you don't plan on telling her any time soon, right?" the other further explained.
Everyone knew but her, he suddenly realized that. He dashed to the parasol at speed record and, with the same speed, he put on his discharged shirt. The girl had yet to see him so he was safe, for the time being. 'What will she think of me if she finds out? She will surely be scared or worse... Hate me..' he thought, adjusting the collar of the shirt, his expression grim as he stared at the sand.
"Was that Rin?" the brunette wondered when she saw the boy run past her like a flash. Even with her extremely developed vision, she wasn't able to see him too clearly.
"Probably," the boys chorused. They were definitely hiding something, but the girl didn't inquired further.
"Alright, Exwires. Gather around!" shouted Shura with a megaphone in hand. She was still wearing her very skimpy swimsuit, it left nothing to the imagination. Nothing.
The Exwires gathered in front of the woman, three girls and five boys. It wasn't exactly a very big class, but they managed to get in trouble a lot more than a normal class, it was their specialty.
"The demon has been identified! It's a Kraken! It's no small fry for you Exwires, but Mephisto decided he wanted to fuck you all up and assigned you to this mission." The teacher was very professional, she even knew what kind of language to use with her students. Not.
Everyone sweatdropped, apart the guy with the puppet. They couldn't have gotten a better teacher than her, really, it was their destiny to have the weirdest teachers.
Rin groaned, it's always the clown planning behind the scenes. 'This could end up like the camp of last year...' he thought, only then realizing that his secret might be in danger if the same thing occurred again.
"But remember that this is not just a mission but a camp! It's a 3-day, 2-night camp, for now we will keep watch and tonight you will try to fight. If it doesn't work, there is always tomorrow!" She was already going with the mindset that tonight they would get nothing done.
"This is just like the camp we had in the forest," pointed out Suguro, thinking back to the time when they were still in their first year of training.
"Exactly! And now, go have fun!" shouted the woman before she passed the megaphone to Yukio and went to her parasol to relax. She was going to enjoy herself to the fullest, because... When do you ever get a beach all to yourself? Never.
Immediately half the class, meaning Shima, Rin, Konekomaru, and Shiemi, went to the water and started playing with a ball. They were like little kids seeing the sea for the first time, especially Rin, who had completely forgotten that his tail might show if he got wet.
The other members either minded their own business far away from everything, thing which only Takara was doing, or watched the idiots play, like Suguro was doing, or sat under the parasol, like Izumo and Yurin.
"Did you have a fight with Moriyama?" surprisingly it was the purple haired girl to break the ice and speak.
The brunette looked at her surprised before shaking her head, disagreeing with what she was saying. "I wouldn't say it was a fight. I... don't know what happened..." confessed the girl, staring at the sand.
"That's confusing," commented the other girl, glancing at the sea before fixing her attention on the group playing like idiots.
Meanwhile, the brunette girl took a moment to remember what had happened that night, trying to figure out what exactly had happened.
"Are you... in love with Rin?" Shiemi questioned seriously, her face partly shadowed by the darkness.
"What are you talking about, Shiemi-chan? Rin and I are just friends.." she explained, confused at her friend's sudden question. Her head started spinning, what was going on? She couldn't quite comprehend the situation.
"Don't lie!" shouted the blonde girl for the first time, stepping outside so that she was now standing right in front of her friend.
The other was taken aback, this was the first time she heard her yell. She disliked people shouting at her, it made her feel insecure about herself and what she had accomplished until then."I... I would never lie to you.. Shiemi-chan."
"I will be honest with you, Yurin-chan. I love Rin, I realized that before you arrived here," her friend confessed, half smiling as if recalling some sort of precious memory to her.
"That's great.. I will be cheering for you," the brunette answered, smiling. Or at least she thought she was smiling, she knew that she wasn't smiling wholeheartedly like she wanted but... 'I wonder what's this feeling..?' she thought, feeling her heart cringing in a strange way. She was quick to dismiss how she was feeling, though.
"Yurin-chan," Shiemi called out to the spaced out girl. "I consider you to be my good friend and rival. You are always walking with your head held up high, but... What you are doing right now is very unfair, both to yourself and me. Until you have an answer to my question, I will not consider you my friend, nor my rival."
The brunette eyes widened in shock, what was the girl talking about? She was always trying her best to be fair with everyone, yet she had failed? It was as if her whole world was crumbling down.
"But.. I don't have feelings for Rin!" she defended herself, ignoring the strange ache of her heart. She had to make her friend understand how things were, and that it was all just a misunderstanding.
"Take your time to think this over," suggested Shiemi before walking back inside the building.
The brunette stayed on the rooftop all night, and it was a miracle if the next day she didn't catch a cold, it was especially cold that night, exactly like how she was feeling inside. Her body felt completely numb, and her mind was spinning in circles, trying to piece together the events that had occurred and make sense of it.
'Do I really have feelings for Rin?' she wondered looking at the boy playing in the water with everyone else, the blonde shy girl being especially close to him, which kind of ticked her off. She scowled when she realized that for some reason her mood had turned sour from just watching them play.
"Do you like Okumura?" Izumo asked all of a sudden.
The brunette almost jumped out her skin from the question. She turned towards the other girl with a shocked expression, the reaction was very similar to someone who had just seen a ghost. "W-why do you ask?"
"You are always together, you look at him all the time, you blush, etc." listed the other girl with a bored tone. She wasn't interested in those kinds of things, so she usually avoided talking about it, but when she noticed something, she noticed something.
"Does it... really... look like I... do?" wondered Yurin frowning, she couldn't even put in order her own feelings, she was completely useless. She knew something was going on, but she couldn't name this feelings of hers, were they really 'love'? Or was it something else?
Izumo glanced at her, maybe she hadn't realized it yet? But it was quite obvious to everyone around, apart from the guy himself of course. She could, as well as everyone, see that the relationship between the two ran deeper than your average friendship.
'Things couldn't get worse..' Yukio thought, he was close enough to hear the girl's conversation, but he wasn't eavesdropping, okay? It wasn't in his nature, and what did he get out of it anyway? Nothing!
"Oh, what do I see here? An eavesdropping scaredycat," commented Shura as she smirked at the specs-wearing teacher. She turned on top of her towel, sunbathing.
The four-eyed boy turned towards her, and glared. He glanced back to see if the two girls had noticed what was going on, seeing as they didn't, he walked towards the older woman. "I'm sure you have been informed about Fujiwara-san situation."
"Of course. What are ya so worried about? Just enjoy this vacation-nya!" the woman took this opportunity to throw the upper part of her bathing suit at the teen, who blushed and avoided the piece of clothing.
The teen glanced at the discharged piece before looking back at the grown woman with a disbelieving look, was the woman in her right mind? Actually... Was anyone around him sane?!
Without anything remarkably big happening, the day passed and soon it was night time. The boys had been ordered to gather wood for a bonfire, as they were camping outside obviously, while the girls to cook dinner.
"I love the beach!" laughed Shima as he added more wood to the fire.
"Shima-san, there are no girls around," pointed out Konekomaru, bringing more wood to be used later.
The pinkette smirked at him, putting an arm around his shoulder in an overly friendly manner. "During the morning there are girls in bikini and at night..." the boy explained, his smirk widening. "There are no insects!"
"He lost it," remarked Suguro, watching as the pinkette danced around the beach, happy that insects wouldn't be chasing him as he did that.
"I think he had none to begin with," casually commented Izumo as she passed by their group, she had to steal some wood so that their cooking fire wouldn't go off.
Whoever thought that just because they were girls, they could cook, was completely mistaken. One way or another, Izumo and Shiemi could manage something but Yurin... She was a different story.
"Ouch..." she whined for the umpteenth time as she cut her finger again, blood quickly trickling down fresh cut. Her knife skills were at the same level as an elementary school student, or maybe worse.
Rin, who had been considerably concerned since he had heard that the girls would be cooking and therefore had been discreetly watching them, finally snapped and marched towards the brunette girl. "Give me that." He had had enough of hearing her whine every single time she cut her finger.
"Eh?" Yurin was surprised by his sudden appearance, and even more when he took the knife from her hands and started cutting the ingredients like a pro. "T-thanks Rin," she whispered, keeping her gaze on the ground.
"Get those cuts treated!" he ordered her, glancing at her long enough to make her understand that if she didn't do it herself, he would do it for her.
"Yes..." she answered, nodding her head. The boy nodded back then concentrated on cooking, giving out orders to the other two girls on what to do next.
The brunette looked at the boy once more before walking to the girls' tent. 'It's not like I need it...' she thought to herself, seeing that the cuts were already beginning to heal. 'But if I don't... They might suspect something.' Though it was a waste, she opened the first-aid kit and applied some band-aids on the already faded wounds.
Suddenly she heard a screeching sound coming from outside and quickly ran out. Her eyes widened at the sight she saw, not actually even believing that she was really seeing that. Out at sea, some kilometers away from the coast, was the Kraken, a giant squid, running towards the beach. Though it was just a gut feeling, but it really felt like the demon was running for dear life from something coming after it.
"Exwires! Stop dilly dallying!" Shura shouted, finishing the last piece of meat that she was eating. "Get your weapons and go into formation."
"Yes!" the group of students answered, getting ready for battle. While Rin, Shima, Yurin and Takara formed the vanguard line, the tamers, Shiemi and Izumo, stood at the center ready to assist the front with their familiars, leaving Suguro and Konekomaru in the rear guard to recite verses in order to exorcise the demon.
The Kraken advanced, not even caring that he was going to hit the beach, therefore meet the Exorcists dispatched there. He had something bigger running after him, such small fries were not worth his attention.
'Something... is coming,' Yurin's senses kicked in, she could feel there was something even more dangerous than the Kraken coming towards them. The sense of disgust that she felt in the pit of her stomach reminded her of the first time she met Mephisto, it made her blood go cold at how much that presence resembled her hidden self.
The Kraken gave another cry and crashed on the shore, defeated. Three deep slashes marked its back, where the decomposition of the demon's body began.
"What was that all about?" wondered Rin out loud, dropping his guard.
"Stay focused, Nii-san!" Yukio shouted at him, having noticed a dark shadow on the water's surface.
The shadow became quickly the center of attention, but such a trifling thing didn't seem to faze it as it continued walking towards the beach.
'My blood is boiling... and my body is itching to battle,' Yurin noted as the figure continued its approach. She stood staring at the pitch darkness in front of her until her eyes finally found something. That something was the brightly glowing golden eyes of the mysterious figure. The contact had her heart beating uncontrollably inside its cage, she wanted to go on a rampage.
The dark clouds finally cleared and the moonlight shone on the them, illuminating the dark shadow as well. It had human form, however it could have been a demon just wearing a human skin. The person had short slicked-back blonde hair, with a lighter colored part of it spiking up, and the apparent appearance of a teenage girl, if the bulging chest was any indication. She wore a white dress shirt, a red necktie styled as a ribbon, black shorts, a black coat, thigh-high black and red socks, and black knee-high military boots.
'Demon..' the brunette teen girl thought, noticing the pointed ears and the tail rolled around her waist, and even if she didn't notice such a thing, her senses were flaring like crazy from just feeling her presence.
The figure continued advancing towards the group, her eyes fixed on the brunette, who was also watching her. She had found what she was searching for, it made her so happy that she couldn't fight the smile that painted her usually emotionless pale face. Another thing that made her smile was that while the group backed away, her target stood rooted in place.
At last, the two stood one before the other. They were almost the same height so they could just stand there staring into each other's eyes forever.
"Yurin!" Rin yelled, trying to snap the girl out of her daydream, but it didn't reach her.
No one dared move, not even the usually reckless Okumura Rin did. Anything could happen in that bizarre situation, in the blink of an eye they could all be attacked and finished off by that demon. A single wrong move and the first one to go to the other world would be the brunette girl.
"Yurin," the demon whispered, reaching up to caress the girl's cheek.
Though the shivers running down her spine came in waves, Yurin didn't move nor flinch away. She stayed glued where she was, there was something in those eyes that kept her in place, a mysterious something which didn't allow her to retreat like everyone else.
"My dear..." the other started, her smile brightening. "...little sister," she whispered with venom in her voice, her aura changing drastically. Her smile disappeared and her eyes held nothing but hate and blood thirst.
Free from the spell cast on her, the brunette girl tried to back away, however she was captured by the neck by the demon and held right in place. She stared into the eyes of her attacker as she began to choke. 'Kill.. Annihilate.. Destroy...' she could read nothing but that in those golden eyes.
"Fear me, humans! I am Lucifer, one of the Eight Demon Kings! The Queen of Beasts is here," the demon introduced herself, smirking maniacally.
"Seriously!? One of the Eight?!" gasped Suguro, grabbing his weapon. The formation had been long broken, those who could fight, had to fight.
"She's hot for being a demon..." mumbled Shima under his breath, holding his staff for dear life. He knew for a fact that girls and indescribable powers meant nothing but trouble. Like, look at the situation right now, he was being glared at by most of the group, they were nothing but trouble!
'A king? Then...' Yurin thought, using the time Lucifer had taken to introduce herself to come up with a plan to free herself. "You are nothing but an enemy then!" she said, gathering all her strength and elbowing the demon on the arm, more precisely on her elbow pit.
The choking sensation lessened as the demon's arm fell from the force of the blow, allowing the brunette to regain her breathe and proceed with her next attack pattern. She took a deep breath and kneed the blonde on the face, making her fall backward. "Don't mess with me," she spat, jumping back to create a distance between them.
"Yurin!" she was welcomed wholeheartedly by the group, making it feel as if she had just returned home.
"Way to go gurl!" congratulated Shura, slapping the girl on the back in a form of encouragement.
Yurin didn't know how to react so she just smiled. She had let herself be captured by the enemy, showcased more of her manly side and even mocked the opponent by telling her not to mess with her. She was reverting back to her old self.
"Alright Exwires, re-group. This not an opponent you can take on and come out with just a few scratches," the female teacher instructed, taking into serious consideration the current situation.
"We should have them fall back and deal with this ourselves, Shura-san," advised Yukio, taking out his pistols and being on the guard for when the demon would stand up again.
The sudden sound of laughter interrupted their planning and they all turned towards the source, the fallen demon. She laughed loudly as she lied on the sand, enjoying the pain inflicted upon her by the illegitimate. No one ever dared to hit her, only her Father and Brothers had actually done it, and even they didn't just waltz out of the situation like it wasn't their problem. "How dare an illegitimate like you...?" she mused out loud, sitting up so that she could glare at her target. She showed no sign of having been hit, but her anger was almost touchable.
The Exwires, as well as the two Exorcists, stood on their guard. There was no telling what the demon was going to do next, and none of them wanted their last day to be at the beach.
"Chimera, Cerberus, Hydra..." the blonde demon whispered before biting her finger with her canine teeth, blood gushed out the open cut. She pulled the collar of her shirt and drew a star on her chest with the blood. "Come to me."
The blood glowed for a few seconds before it was absorbed by her body, creating a hole from where three giant beasts came from. The first had the head of a lion, while the head of goat was growing from its back and the end of its tail was the head of a snake. The second had the appearance of a dog, but the heads were three. And lastly, the third had reptilian traits and possessed many heads.
"Chimera with three beasts' heads," Suguro said, glancing at the first beast who growled with its lion head. "Cerberus, the hellhound," he continued, his eyes shifting to the second beast who barked using all three heads it had. "And Lernaean Hydra with reptilian traits," he finished, stopping at the last beast, who hissed at the group with its many heads.
"You know them?!" Rin questioned shocked, looking up at the enormous creatures. The sheer size was enough to make him wish he had drank that milk when he was little, had he done that he would have been a little bit taller, though it wouldn't have made that much of a difference.
"You never listen in class, do you?!" shouted Suguro, glaring at the black haired boy. "They are Gehenna's Beasts! Under the direct control of the Queen of Beasts!" he explained, angry that the other didn't know something as simple as that until he noticed something. He turned towards the beasts and realized that one of the beasts was missing, Gehenna's Beasts were a group of four ferocious beast-form demons.
Yurin took out her summoning paper, breaking the promise she had made to herself that she wouldn't call for help, not even if a high ranking demon appeared. She drew blood on the paper and readied herself to call her familiar. "I call upon thy name, for there is a contract that binds us! To extinguish the flames and wrack havoc, come forth, Beast of Gehenna, Fenrir!"
Something in front of her began to sparkle, it was as if the air was trying to spark a fire. The sparkles got more intense and then a flicking sound was heard, marking the appearance of the fourth beast. The black demon wolf stood in all his four meters tall glory.
"The fourth beast... Fenrir, the wolf," Suguro gaped shocked, he couldn't believe his eyes. One of his classmates had just summed one of Gehenna's Beasts, he had the right to be surprised!
"So... That's where you were, Queen," Blue, actually Fenrir, commented, standing before the other three beasts, who showed immediate resentment for the wolf. They had all pledged loyalty to their queen, yet the wolf had gone and gotten a new master behind their back, it was unforgivable.
"Fenrir, you traitor," Lucifer smiled, but her golden eyes were as cold as ice. Traitors deserved death, and she was going to abide by that rule, today in particular.
The demon lifted a finger and the battle started. Her movement was a lot like Mephisto's, they were brothers after all so there's got to be some kind of similarity between them. Especially the fact that they were both unwanted visitors most of the times.
"Take cover in the forest!" Yukio ordered the group, seeing that the demons were currently busy.
'I can't leave Blue to fight alone!' Yurin thought, leaving the group and joining her familiar in the battle. She wasn't of much help since she didn't even have her weapon, but she was the perfect bait for those idiotic beasts, who attacked everything that moved.
"Fujiwara went back!" shouted Shima, noticing the missing presence of the brunette girl as they ran up the stairs to get to the street and then the forest.
"That idiot..." Shura hissed, the way the girl was so similar to Rin really pissed her off. She hated dealing with brats, they were always so hotheaded, especially this group she had to deal with.
The blonde demon smiled delightfully when she saw her target was back, however it quickly turned into a frown when she noticed she was not the center of attention of that person. 'You stupid illegitimate,' she growled in her head, her eyes shining with anger.
'I should hurry up an‒' Yurin never finished that thought because, out of nowhere. she felt Lucifer's presence really close to her and, the next thing she knew, she was sent flying a few meters away. She landed on the sand and rolled a couple of more meters.
"Don't ignore me," Lucifer whispered, standing next to the brunette's fallen figure. She grabbed her by the hair and lifted her up to see if she was still breathing, humans were such fragile things after all. "You are still alive," she cheered, smiling brightly.
The brunette opened an eye to look at her opponent, though she couldn't focus on her face too much, she knew for a fact that the smile didn't reach her eyes and that she was still giving her that cold murderous look. 'It's obvious that they would hate me... I have the one thing that only he who stands above them has,' she thought to herself.
"Please die for me," she heard the demon whisper before her head was slammed down on the sand. Caught by surprise, she didn't have time to react so it was a given that she now had a mouthful of sand in her mouth.
"Fenrir!" Yurin telepathically called for her familiar, hoping he would get her out of that situation. Having your head slammed on the ground and then having it be kept in place by a foot was not exactly the best feeling in the world.
"I'm busy at the moment!" Blue replied angrily, he could see that the girl was having a difficult time but he was as well. Somehow he felt touched that the girl called his name instead of his nickname, but he didn't have time for sentimentalism.
"You certainly seem to love taking all that's mine," Lucifer commented, kicking the brunette in the head. Not only had she stolen the title of 'only daughter' from her, but also one of her beasts. Unforgivable. She was about to keep mocking the girl when she was suddenly kicked by an unknown someone.
The attacker, who was none other than Okumura Rin. He was going to follow orders and stay out of it, mostly because he could do nothing without sheathing his katana therefore revealing his identity but he couldn't stand to watch the brunette girl be toyed with. "Get off her!" he shouted.
The demon regarded the boy with fury clearly painted in her eyes. "Don't interfere," she hissed, taking her foot off the girl's head. She was getting so pissed, that it was not even funny anymore. "Brother said not to kill you, but if you interfere again... I will slaughter you," the blonde demon threatened.
Rin scoffed and pointed his sheathed katana at her. "I'm your opponent now," he declared, trying to sound intimidating enough to make the other back off at least a little, enough to allow him to help the fallen girl.
"You are not even worth my time," whispered Lucifer disappearing into thin air. She reappeared a second later behind the half-demon and kicked him, showing him how real kicks were done, which would have coasted him more than a few broken ribs had she not been holding back.
"Rin!" Shiemi shouted, running to help the boy but getting her path blocked by the Chimera. She immediately stepped back, afraid of the creature staring down at her with hungry eyes.
Four shots rang through the air as the beast was hit, causing it to divert its attention to the offender. Okumura Yukio had come to the rescue of his student, together with the other Exwires, who were ready to support him in action. "Moriyama-san, get back into formation," he ordered the girl.
The blonde Exwire wanted to protest but, seeing how serious the situation was, she simply nodded and went back to the group. She could only pray for the safety of both her friends, especially the girl's who was at the receiving end of the demon's anger.
'What... happened?' Yurin wondered, regaining her senses. She tried to sit up but ended up coughing out all the sand she had involuntary taken in. With half lidded eyes, due to the sand also going into her eyes, she looked around her, wanting to know what had happened while she was out of it.
The first thing she saw was the group of Exwires, plus Yukio, Shura, and Fenrir, fighting against the Gehenna's Three Beasts. It was a fierce fight, everyone was going all out and yet no one was having the upper hand, even the uneven numbers of the groups didn't serve to decide who was the winner.
The next scene she set her eyes on was the most one-sided, cruel battle she had ever seen in her whole life, and it left her so shocked that her body trembled without her permission. Lucifer was kicking Rin around as if he were some kind of punching bag, he didn't even have the time to react or defend himself.
"Stop!" she shouted, trying to get up but only managing to trip and fall flat on her face. She tried once more and succeeded, she stood on her own two legs and began running towards the one-sided fight. Her heart was beating at an incredible speed, her breathe was raged, and she wasn't so sure she could keep her emotions in check any longer.
"You are still alive!" Lucifer rejoiced, kicking the dark haired boy in the girl's direction. The two collided and fell to the ground, making the demon laugh. She was seriously happy that she was still alive, she could continue torturing her. "Oops, sorry!" she laughed, watching the two.
Yurin slowly opened her eyes, she didn't see that coming. She sat up and concentrated on the unconscious boy lying on top of her. "Rin?" she asked, trying to wake up him. "Rin!" she shouted when he didn't respond. Nothing worked, he was out cold.
"Was he someone important?" the demon questioned, began to walk towards the two. She was smiling brightly, knowing that if he was, she had done some pretty big damage to her resolve. It was like one of those stupid shows her brother watched, one where one of the lovers die and the other gets revenge.
The brunette girl clenched her teeth, stopping the tears from spilling out. She bent down and brushed her nose against the boy's forehead, it was something her mother had done before going to battle. 'It seems... I care about you a hell of a lot,' she thought to herself, lying Rin on the sand.
"Your opponent is me," Yurin said, locking eyes with the blonde demon. Her teal eyes were like a bottomless pool, many different emotions swirled in them but, soon, only one emotion prevailed: a quiet, unstoppable rage.
Lucifer smirked, excited at seeing that her natural enemy was finally taking her seriously. She hated people who didn't take her seriously, only she could do that because she was strong.
"This will teach you to never mess with people dear to me," the brunette teen mumbled, taking out a piece of paper. She bit her lip and smeared the blood on the piece, "Holy sword, aid me cleanse this world. I call upon thy name for my cause is pure... Come, Hakumei*."
The paper burned up and in its place appeared a sheathed sword. It was a single-edge, short sword; known in Japan as ninjato, a common name for this particular sword believed to be used by ninja in feudal times. Both the sheath and the grip were a dark purple color, while the guard formed a complex flower design.
"Come," Yurin said, unsheathing the sword and revealing a beautiful silver blade. She exhaled and unleashed her powers, there was no turning back now, the demon was not an opponent she could easily deal with without having to use the power that had cursed her life. She watched as blazing blue flames enveloped her body, before a great part of it was transferred to the sword, making it stronger.
"Those flames don't suit you," Lucifer growled, seeing her Father's beautiful blue flames be used by an useless human. She couldn't accept such a thing, she was not going to let it pass. "You are such an eyesore, illegitimate."
The brunette's eyes widened, she hated that term more than anything. "Watch as this illegimate kicks your ass back to Gehenna!" she yelled, attacking first.
The two clashed in the middle, raising an incredible wind, which alerted people of the start of the main battle between the demon and the brown haired girl. Lucifer stopped Yurin's sword with her arm, using her other to punch the girl, but getting blocked. The two stood like that for a few minutes, glaring intensely at each other, before jumping back.
It was going to be an intense battle, and unknowingly both were looking forward to it.
