Chapter 10 Sweet Dreams
Tristan's Chambers 1:50 am
She could still feel her legs tremble. "Fff…uuck baby!" she felt her heated breath on the forearm that covered her eyes. The taste of blood still coated her lips although, this time her own blood, as she'd bit her lip at the height of her orgasm. Looking deep into his eyes, she watched as he smiled and dipped his tongue across her bottom lip licking up the remaining blood. When she opened her mouth wider his tongue accepted the invitation as she felt another couple of deep thrusts of his hips, her over sensitised walls instinctively clenching tightly around him as he quickened his pace.
Pulling at his shoulders, drawing him closer, she sunk her teeth into his neckline as another pulsing wave hit her. His movement intensified until one final deep thrust and she felt his body tense before a calm washed over him and his weight rested upon her.
"Mmm I can get used to that. I like feeling you drink from me." He hissed when she sucked harder, moaning his appreciation she pulled back.
"Can we go see what mischief the kids are causing?" When she caught him smirk and nod his head she crashed her lips against his in a frenzied attack, tasting her own blood once again on her lips.
Cheif Medical Examiner's Office 2:15 am
"Hold still!" Meredith stood grappling with the fidgeting blonde as she wriggled from her perched position on the doctor's desk. She squirmed like a scared child, continually pulling her arm slightly away from the Doc whenever Meredith moved her hand toward the tourniquet. "Seriously you can heal quickly but you still squirm, hold still or it will pinch when I pull it out."
"Ow, ow, no wonder you work with dead people!" Arizona clenched her eyes tightly and directed her head to the ceiling of Meredith's office. She hated needles, she knew she was being ridiculous and if she'd actually admit it, she didn't actually feel it, she just really hated needles.
"Here keep pressure on it. It will keep it from bruising and I'm offended. I'll have you know I was a surgeon before this. Hunt brought me in as the Chief Medical Examiner so that I'd be close to Torres." Directing Arizona to press down on the cotton pad, Meredith quickly rolled her eyes when Arizona threw the white medical pad to the side and rubbed the previously bleeding needle marked skin. Looking up to meet Meredith's gaze, she smiled cheekily as there was no mark once the smear of blood was wiped away. "Smart ass. I'll put a rush on the blood, your Electrocardiogram came back great, and x-ray shows no worries. Obviously I'm restricted with the resources I have here since I only deal with dead people…but I could take you to the hospital if you want?" Meredith kept her eyes on the blonde as she felt around under her desk, her hands finally found the secret compartment she had in her desk and brought out an old looking journal. Arizona removed the rest of the sticky sensors from the ECG and hopped off the desk. Throwing the sensors in the trashcan, she moved around to the other side of the desk taking a seat.
"No. Seriously I feel fine. Thank you." Sitting back in the chair she tried to stifle a yawn. "So you think I'm a 'cudor' thing?"
"A Curador. Yes." Meredith didn't even look up as she continued to flick through the pages of the journal.
"Does that mean I'm a sub thingy? Why didn't I know?" Arizona had been thinking about all the questions she wanted to ask on the bullet drive back to the precinct she had just partaken in, however, panicking for her life was the more pressing issue as it turned out Meredith Grey was a crazy fast and dangerous driver.
"Yup. Well, you don't exactly come with a user's manual." Still, Meredith brushed the question off and kept to her task at hand, skimming the fine pages of the brown leather journal quickly scanning her father's looped handwriting.
"You mean I have his evil nasty blood in my ancestry? Well that's just great." Arizona huffed crossing her arms protectively over her chest.
"Yes…no…kind of, just ssssh a minute!" Meredith smiled when she finally found what it was she was looking for, tapping the page a couple of times to emphasise her finding. "And just be glad you did have that nasty blood in your body or you wouldn't be talking to me right know." Turning the journal around, she slid the leather bound pages across the desk, tapping the comment so Arizona could look for herself. "But this should ease your worry." Arizona opened her mouth to talk and then stopped as she looked at the written notes.
Curador - Kahlan's lineage
"Who's Kahlan?" Arizona looked up to see bright eyes sparkling back at her.
"She was Dargon's daughter." Arizona raised an eyebrow and again went to open her mouth, but nothing came out. Meredith smiled and continued when the blonde looked at her, pleading with her to continue and stop being vague.
"She was born to a human mother. Not someone infected who then had a child. Dargon impregnated a human woman, the King's Daughter. It looks like you have royal blood flowing through those veins. She was the only one. He was never able to procreate again." Meredith took the journal back from the roaming eyes.
"How? Why would somebody not know about her?"
"Only a select few knew about the existence of Kahlan. The King sent them away for their own safety. So yes, you have his blood, you are a direct descendant, but Kahlan was different. She had been born with all of his abilities, but nothing but goodness in her heart. Dargon and Kahlan could heal themselves; all the crap Dargon did to himself, he changed on a cellular level. But with Kahlan, her genetic makeup was altered at creation. The best way to explain it to you is that Dargon possesses animal-keen senses, enhanced physical capabilities, and a healing factor that allows him to recover from virtually any wound, disease, or toxin at an accelerated rate. The healing factor also slows down his aging process, enabling him to live way beyond a normal human lifespan. You have the healing trait because Kahlan had children before she died, throughout the centuries the traits have been diluted. You are a descendant of Kahlan." Meredith's last statement was more to herself; her voice began to fade as she concentrated on the words her father wrote.
Carlos explained what he saw in his visions. He told me that when Rai and Kahlan completed the ritual, Rai's brown eyes looked almost completely blue.
"I knew I'd read that before." Meredith smiled as Arizona sat not knowing what the hell was going on. "Do you believe in fate, Robbins? That there are no coincidences in life, we meet the people we meet for a reason?" Arizona never got to answer when both women were interrupted by a cough at the door.
"Dr Grey, I've set Adam Pinster's body on the table for you and also one of the nightclub attackers that came in. Chief Hunt asked for them to be looked at first." The skinny looking intern stood at the door looking as though she was going to fall asleep on the spot.
"Thanks Stephanie. Wasn't your shift over a few hours ago?" Meredith asked confused, normally when she stayed so late at night there weren't as many bodies drifting around to annoy her.
"The night club massacre, on top of everyday Seattle nightlife…Yeah Chief Hunt asked for these ones to be seen by you and you only, so we've had them on ice while waiting for you." With that the intern hunched her shoulders and about turned leaving the two women. Meredith looked at the blonde who was yawning constantly.
"Robbins, you can go home, all the earlier testing proved you're fine, fit as a fiddle. You just need some rest. The blood is really just to make sure there's nothing going on." Meredith stood up and began walking over to the door into the lab. She smirked as Arizona got up and followed her.
Arizona scrunched her eyes as she entered the other room; the florescent lighting in the medical looking room hurt her eyes. "Shit, how the hell can you see anything in here?"
"You get used to it. If you're going to stay in here you better go put on some gloves and paper apron. You'll be helping." Meredith smiled at the other woman as Arizona picked up a pair of gloves and snapped them into place.
"Oh shit, he feels cold?" Arizona brought her gloved hand away from the bullet wound on Pinster's forehead; she closed her eyes and shook the vision of him standing menacingly over Callie about to strike. She remembered trying to focus as her head pounded and she took the shot.
"She wasn't kidding when she said they'd put them on ice." Meredith laughed as Arizona pulled her hand back. "Their temp will be fine soon. I'm going to start the autopsy so if you have any other questions shoot."
"Boo!"
The noise of the scalpel hitting the floor echoed in the room drawing Arizona from her thoughts. "You okay, Grey?"
"Mmm, sorry clumsy hands." Meredith looked up, startled, shaking her head as she moved to get another sterile scalpel. "I wish you would stop doing that Cristina, you need a freaking bell!" Meredith rolled her eyes and saw Arizona looking at her weirdly. She offered a smile as the Blonde went to speak again; Meredith held her hand up halting Arizona leaving the woman looking confused while Cristina's voice filled her head.
"Just a heads up, Callie's all juiced up and ready to go. It's 2:37 and here's your ten minute warning. I'm sending Callie, Hunt and Karev to you. I'll get to you maybe in a hundred years since your sister's driving sucks, you'd think with her eyesight."
"Cristina!"
Arizona looked to Meredith waiting for her to elaborate as to why she was shouting Cristina's name. Both women's attention was so taken, that none of them noticed the slight movement of the second body in the room. One of the nightclub boy's fingers twitched slightly and his hand fell from under the sheet.
"Whatever! They'll be there soon. Yang out!" Meredith shook her head before turning and starting her incision in Pinster's chest.
"Okay, I've just been informed that Callie will be here in around ten minutes, once she gets here I'll get her to take you home."
"What?" Arizona raised an eyebrow in query looking to see if Grey had anything in her ear as Meredith tapped her head and then when back to cutting, rolling the word out "Okay." Arizona shook it off, there was no point trying to figure Grey out. "You said Dargon and Kahlan are hard to kill? But you spoke as though Kahlan is dead. Can you tell me about her?"
"Ah yes. For poor Kahlan, she tasted the bitterness of humanity. Everyone around her, whether it was from foul play or the slow decay of time, anyone she ever loved died before her. There was no comfort for her. No relief came to ease the passing of her mother, her husband, and her two children. She tried to take her own life, but nothing would work." Meredith continued with her autopsy as she lifted out an organ and placed it on the scales. "Not able to take anymore, she removed herself from civilization, lingering in the darkness of grief, the world changing around her. She could take no more so she eventually found an Alma to cleanse her."
*********************2:40 am********************
"So have they told you when you can go home?" Addison asked the question though the people running out in the hall took her attention. The first time she saw the flash of bodies moving quickly past the door she'd thought it was just doctors and an emergency, they were in a hospital.
Hearing a crash and some screaming, Derek stood up and walked to the hall to see what was going on. In a matter of seconds an alarm sounded, shrieking noise from above. Derek looked back toward Addison. "I'll be back in a moment, Addison stay put." He stuck his head out the door before turning back, "Seriously I'm warning you stay here." As he left the room Addison went to stand to follow but her progress was stilled when she felt Mark's strong hand on her forearm.
"Addie, give him a minute."
"And where do you think you're going?" Addison watched as Mark let go of her arm and started to shuffle himself out of his bed.
"Could you hand me my vest and pants please?" Mark shook the hospital gown off his shoulders as he sat on the edge of the bed. And I'll need some help with the brace, also could you?" Mark extended his arm to show Addison the cannula that had him attached to an IV drip.
"I'm not taking that out, I'm not a doctor!"
"You don't have to take it out, I watched the nurse earlier just disconnect the tube and twist the little lid thing on. It's just fluids, I was given drugs earlier. I'm fine." Mark smiled a charming smile trying to persuade his friend though the red head rolled her eyes.
"Mark Sloan, you just keep your ass in bed."
As Addison finished her sentence the lights flickered on and off before staying off and there was even more movement in the halls as the volume of panic intensified. The sound of things crashing and growling filled the air. "Here!" Addison dashed over to the folded clothes and placed them on the bed as she started to fiddle with the cannula.
Chief Medical Examiners Lab 2:54am
"I have coffee?"
Both women turned to see Callie holding two cups aloft.
"Oh, I want your coffee. I very much need your coffee." Arizona smiled as she moved to meet Callie as she walked into the room. When she reached her, Callie offered her a worried smile as she pulled off the blue gloves and threw them in the bin. Closing the distance, she took both cups from Callie, raised her eyebrow and then turned around to walk away from the dejected brunette.
Placing the cups down next to Meredith. Arizona made her way back over to Callie as she heard the brunette's panicked tone. "I'm sooooo so sorry Arizona, I didn't mean…" Callie's words were cut off when Arizona came right into the brunette's personal space. Looking straight into her eyes trying to get Callie to calm, she wrapped her arms around her shoulders and pulled her head down to kiss her gently. A pang of sadness hit her when she felt Callie tense, as though trying to keep control. Callie couldn't enjoy the feeling of the blonde's lips on hers for fear of what she could do to her. Not wanting to break the contact completely, Arizona brought her arms down to Callie's waist and pulled her close. Nuzzling her head into the nook of her neck she tilted her head towards the brunette's ear.
"You didn't hurt me, don't worry. You could never hurt me." Arizona tried to get through to Callie, but the brunette couldn't even shift her eyes from the spot on the floor she'd been looking at. Arizona closed her eyes and drew in a breath; the aroma of the woman warmed her senses. Callie, normally so strong, tall and confident, looked weak and broken as memories of what she'd done to Arizona taunted her.
Meredith rolled her eyes as she witnessed the affection, but she also saw the uncertainty in both women. Removing her own gloves, she moved over and lifted both coffees empting both into her extra-large thermostat cup. "Callie." Meredith saw the lost gaze in Callie's eyes, she knew they had to talk, and she knew they wouldn't talk there. "Make sure she gets home. You both need rest." Looking at her watch as she took a sip of the coffee, she sighed. "If you hurry, at least a few of us will get a couple of hours sleep today. By the time you get back, I'll have the autopsies done."
"Grey, Hunt said he'd be down soon. Karev lost his dinner…that ride here was not fun. Bailey cornered Hunt, so he'll be down once he shakes her."
Meredith smiled sadly. Callie's words sounded tired, hell, she couldn't even begin to imagine the mental and physical strength that everything so far had taken out of her, had taken out of both Callie and Arizona. "Yeah I've only done it once, never again. Go now, before I change my mind and make you both help."
Arizona felt her eyes get heavier as she snuggled into the warmth of Callie's embrace. She felt the arm tighten around her and Callie's nodded reply to Meredith. Without saying anything, both women turned and walked, holding each other, not wanting to let go but unsure of what to say.
Meredith paused watching them exit for a moment before taking a large gulp of her coffee and setting it back on her desk. Reaching into the drawer in her desk she grabbed her iPod and adjusted the buds in her ears as the music drowned out the eerie silence. Replacing her gloves, she danced her way back over to the waiting corpse, tilting the head back and opening his mouth she carefully looked at the small hole in his gum just in front of his canine and first premolar. She was so preoccupied looking at the thin fang that protruded slightly she never saw or heard the movement behind her as the nightclub body sat up, the sheet falling around his bullet covered body.
Turning his head and seeing the woman, he brought his feet around to meet the floor before clumsily standing, knocking over a tray of instruments as he did. They slid across the floor and into the heel of Grey.
Spinning around in shock she saw the boy lunge at her.
Alley outside Seattle Police Department 3:00 am
"I told you we should have went to the hospital, there's nothing here of any interest. I thought they'd be at least screaming."
Dargon looked on at the pouting raven haired beauty as he leaned against the cold brick wall of the alley across the road from the precinct. "Well, we would have had time to go to the Hospital instead if you had kept those ridiculously delicious lips to yourself." Catching one of his lackeys roll his eyes at the flirtatiousness in his voice, he lowered the tone in his voice trying to gain back his sense of authority as the lackey smirked at his master.
"Tristan?" Dargon looked toward the woman as her attention was taken. Following the direction she was looking in, Dargon spotted the two women that had stepped out of the precinct. He watched as something flashed in her eyes, her body tensed as she continued to watch as the two women held each other while walking. "We need to leave now. The sun will be rising soon and we have a lot to get ready for the full moon later."
Tristan snapped her attention back to Dargon. "Yes, sorry baby, I just…I need Bruce to run an errand for me." She threw a quick glance back over her shoulder toward the women again. "I'll be with you in a minute darling?" Watching as Dargon nodded, he beckoned Bruce over as he started to walk away giving her the privacy to talk to the man he had assigned to keep her safe.
"I need you to follow them, don't let them see you. I just want you to come back with an address. Get it and come tell me. Dargon's got other things he needs to concentrate on." With a nod and then a violent shake of his head the large muscular man's eyes glistened, as they turned black, the two tattoos opened at the side of his temple to reveal two smaller eyes. When he turned to face the alley wall small hairs covered his body and he started to climb up the brickwork. She watched as he got smaller the further up the building he climbed before she turned and followed Dargon.
**************************3:02 am***********************
Her whole body tensed up and she crashed her eyes shut, she had no time to do anything else other than await the contact. Right now, she was trying to gain her senses and calm her breathing down.
The noise of the shots still stung her brain, she had never been so happy to be turning around to see Karev and Hunt lowering their weapons. Kneeling down to look at the boy, she jumped slightly when her mobile began to vibrate in her pocket.
"Grey." She tried to steady her voice as she answered.
"It's Derek. We're stuck at the Hospital. The nightclub kids appear to still be alive and are attacking people at the hospital. Addison and Mark are held up in his room, I came out to see what was happening. I can't discharge my weapon, there are too many people running and I can't risk hitting bystanders. Meredith, I don't know why, but I suspect you know what's going on. I don't ask about your secrets, but if I get out of here alive. We need to have a serious conversation."
Meredith looked at the motionless body lying in front of her, "I don't know anything yet, but you need to aim for the head, sever the brain. That will stop them."
"Zombies Meredith? That's what you're going with?"
"Yeah, that's what I'm going with." Meredith looked up at Hunt and Karev as they both had a quiet conversation with each other before Karev ran from the room. "Derek, Karev is on his way. Be careful."
"The nightclub kids that are there Meredith…"
"It's okay, we have them sorted they've been on ice, whatever has infected them is dormant at the moment. I'm okay, just take care. I love you." Meredith hung up before he could ask any more questions as Owen scrunched his eyes. "Don't look at me like that, there was no need for him to worry…now come and help me lift him, I need to figure out what the fuck is going on."
Arizona Robbins Apartment 3:17 am
The ride to the apartment had been tense to say the least. Callie's guilt and her lack of control before were terrorizing her mind. Arizona had spent the majority of the journey telling Callie that she was fine; that she wasn't hurt, but the brunette just couldn't hear her…accept what she was telling her. Arizona had made her mind up as they approached her apartment door that if Callie wouldn't listen, she would just have to show her.
He watched from the shadows of the darkened hall, completely out of view of the two women as they walked to the door. Arizona took her keys from her back pocket and unlocked the door never breaking contact with Callie. Once the door was opened and both women entered, he turned and left.
The feeling of Arizona's hand in hers, all senses concentrating on what her touch was doing to her. Callie was on autopilot, diligently following the woman who led her slowly into her bedroom. When Callie realised where she was, she began to panic.
"I'm not leaving you alone, but…but I think I should sleep on the sofa. I can't risk hurting you."
"You won't hurt me." Arizona let go of Callie's hand and turned to face her as she began to unbutton her shirt, once that was removed she lifted the vest top over her head. She stood in front of Callie in only her bra and jeans. "Take off your clothes and get in the bed Callie."
Callie, shocked by Arizona's forwardness, moved over to sit on the edge of the bed but made no motion to remove her clothing only shaking her head slowly. Arizona continued to look sadly into her eyes as she unbuttoned her jeans and looped her thumbs in the hem, drawing the material down her toned lithe legs. Stepping out of the material at her ankles, she moved to stand before Callie in only her underwear. The brunette was completely unaware that she had opened her legs enough for Arizona's frame to stand between, she subconsciously licked her lips and her mouth became awfully dry. Callie looked at the white lace bra that housed the desirable breasts before she lifted her eyes to look at the blonde's intense blue eyes looking down at her.
"Touch me Callie."
Callie's sad eyes continued to stare as she shook her head; she just couldn't risk losing control.
"Touch me."
Watching Callie's hands tighten the grip she had on the sheets at the sides of her thighs. Arizona brought her own hands up to gently hold Callie's neck softly, keeping her from pulling away, as she dipped her head to take Callie's lips with hers. The kiss intensified and Callie began to relax, Arizona smiled as she felt Callie's fingertips begin to ghost over the skin on her back before she felt stronger movements massage the skin underneath.
Arizona pulled back from Callie's lips. "See? I'm fine." Dipping her head down again, she gave a chaste kiss before she wrapped her arms around Callie's back. Callie rested her head against Arizona's chest, calming as she listened to her heartbeat. "Callie, Grey told me what I am. While we were waiting for you, she filled me in on what they know. It turns out you're not the only weird one." Arizona felt Callie laugh against her as her grip tightened around her waist before she pulled away completely as the words sunk in.
"If you're a sub, then I can hurt you?" Callie looked panicked; Arizona maintained contact as she leaned to the side to open the drawer to her bedside cabinet. Pulling out the small pocketknife she flicked the blade out, "How long do you think a cut would take to heal normally?" Arizona smoothly moved the blade across the palm of her left hand creating an inch long wound. "A day, maybe two? For me a small cut like this…" holding out her hand palm up to show Callie the red line as the blood began to gather in the indent. "A matter of hours, but with you here with me." Arizona took Callie's hand in her wounded one. "You think you took something from me." Kissing Callie, she gently ran her tongue across the brunette's bottom lip. When the kiss began to intensify she felt Callie's tense body relax and loosen as calm washed over her. Pulling back, she looked at Callie's closed eyes as her lids fluttered open the electric blue swirled around the deep brown. "I took from you. I don't know how but I did."
Callie watched Arizona carefully as she loosened her grip of Callie's hand before presenting the now healed hand to Callie. The brunette's fingers moved gently over the faint red line.
"We complement each other Callie. I believe you can't and would never hurt me." Arizona unbuttoned a few buttons on Callie's shirt before lifting the material over her head. Her loose hair fell and framed her face just sitting on her shoulders. Arizona thought she was beautiful. "Now get into bed and hold me, let's get some sleep." Arizona smiled as she watched Callie silently remove her jeans and slipped her body in between the sheets before lifting for the blonde to climb in also.
"So healing abilities huh?" Callie whispered as Arizona made herself comfortable by backing her body into the brunette's curves. She felt Callie's lips kiss at the back of her neck as her arms slipped over her hips, bodies fitting together.
"Yeah, Grey says that I'm a direct descendant of Kahlan." Callie closed her eyes for a moment while she continued to place open-mouthed kisses over her collar and shoulder. Callie remembered the connection she felt between Rai and Kahlan. She had thought at the time that it had felt familiar, safe. The same feeling came over her when she was connected with Arizona. "I don't know what it all means…" a small moan left Arizona's mouth as she continued to feel Callie explore her skin with her lips, "but I know. I just know that we'll be safe with each other."
"Mmm I'm starting to believe that too." Callie cuddled Arizona's waist tighter and kissed her shoulder once more before closing her eyes. Out of all the craziness that had happened over the few days, this was the one place she did feel completely safe, wrapped up and surrounded by Arizona Robbins.
************************4:32 am*****************************
"Aw Bruce. Just look, how sweet is that?"
Tristan stood on the fire escape looking in at the two sleeping women. Looking around the room she smiled when she saw that the door was closed over. Bending down, she began to quietly jimmy open the widow frame enough to fit the small capsule through before closing it again. She stood to her full height and leant against the wall as she watched the smoke release into the room.
Bruce looked out over the city, everything was calm. The light of the new day began to cast its soft light over them. Dargon had allowed her to come back as long as she took Bruce and promised that she would not confront the Alma. Tristan promised him that she wouldn't, she just wanted to observe. Bruce was a monster of a man, one of Dargon's strongest. He was built like a brick shit house and Tristan was feeling rather cocky. She wasn't a weakling herself anymore, but with him looking out for her, well she couldn't pass up the opportunity.
"Okay that should have kicked in by now."
Opening the window to its full span, she climbed in and moved over to look at the peaceful women. Bruce followed but turned and reached back out of the window and lifted a large black bag through the opening, as he brought it in he dropped it with a thud. He looked up apologetically gritting his teeth.
"Hmm looks like it worked then. Seriously I'm good." Tristan smirked, as the two women didn't budge. Bruce went about opening the large bag as Tristan leant over Callie's face to whisper in her ear.
"Sweet dreams."
