Dawn walked into class, somewhat relieved to find that Paul and Misty haven't arrived yet. She let out a heavy sigh and walked to her seat and sat down, placing her things onto her desk. She growled in annoyance as her pencil rolled off the desk. She bent down to pick up and suddenly noticed a pair of Steve Madden sandals standing right in front of her desk. She glanced up with a curious expression on her face.
"Misty?" she questioned, feeling a bit awkward that she approached her.
Misty slightly smiled at her, "Hi…"
Dawn placed her pencil back on her desk still staring at her blankly, "Hi…" she replied sheepishly.
"Look I'm just going to say it," she started, sitting down next to her. "I miss you, I miss us and I really miss our friendship. I miss the all-nighters we used to have on school nights and I miss sleeping in class together." She lets out a heavy sigh, "I know my apology isn't a enough, but I really hope our friendship is stronger than that…"
Dawn glanced down at her hands, not really knowing how to respond.
Misty felt the disappointment get to her when Dawn didn't respond. She slowly gets up, "Sorry. I can take a hint." She turned to start walking to the back of the classroom when Dawn's voice suddenly stopped her.
"He's a good kisser…right?" she suddenly asked Misty.
Misty stared at her with confusion evident all over her features, "What?"
"And his lips are inviting. The way he moves them against yours. He makes you feel wanted. It's all just irresistible. I mean I would know," she said still speaking.
She frowned at Dawn, "I don't understand the point you are trying to make here…"
"My point is…" Dawn stood up and walked up to Misty, "I'm pretty positive that it wasn't intentionally your fault. He probably kissed you first, right? Like I said before, he is pretty irresistible when he wants to be."
Misty wanted to argue that it was a mutual thing that it wasn't just Paul's fault, but she was so desperate to get Dawn's friendship back she complied.
"Does that mean you forgive me…?" she whispered with hopefulness in her tone, she felt her eyes start to get glassy.
"It's going to take some time, but I forgive you…" she replied, smiling softly at her.
Misty lunged at her, tackling her into a tight hug. "I'm so sorry for what I did. I know it's unforgiveable, but I never meant for it to happen," she whispered, still hugging Dawn tightly.
Dawn rubbed her back, comfortingly. "I know I know."
Paul was sitting a couple feet away, but he heard the entire conversation they had. It pained him to hear how sure Dawn was when she said that it was his fault who caused the whole mess in the first place. He was sort of annoyed that Misty didn't even try to defend him, when she knew that it wasn't just him at fault.
His thoughts were interrupted when he saw Ash walk into the class. He waved him over, and Ash reluctantly walked over towards him.
"What do you want?" he asked with a glare.
Paul let out a heavy sigh before continuing, "Look, I'm aware that you are pissed at me, but for some stupid reason Misty thinks that we all can go back to being friends. So I'm going to try again and apologize for the millionth time. I'm not going to say all that sob story crap about our friendship, because I know I'm an asshole. You can agree with that, but that doesn't mean I'm not trying to make things right again."
Ash let himself crack a smile, "She was always the one for positivity," he replied, talking to himself even though Paul heard him.
Paul let out a snort, "You got that right. It gets kind of annoying when you're at the receiving end of her positivity, but dude…. I'm sorry…" he apologized again, a hard painful expression appearing on his face.
Ash let out a heavy sigh, running his fingers through his long, shaggy black hair. "I'm—I'm just not ready to forgive you yet. I don't know if we can ever go back to being friends. You were the person I trusted the most, and now that's just gone. Sorry…" Ash mumbled, walking past him.
Paul internally groaned, he already knew that Ash wouldn't forgive him. He knew because in his heart he couldn't even forgive himself. He walked back to his seat, with an emotionless expression on his face, to truly mask what he was feeling.
Ash walked up to where he usually sits and suddenly felt surprised to see Misty and Dawn laughing and talking with each other. Especially laughing.
Dawn glanced up to see Ash staring at her with a confused expression, "Oh hi Ash. You don't mind if Misty sits in your seat for the day, do you?" she asked, with a small pleading smile.
"Uh…" he looked at Dawn and then back at Misty and then back at Dawn, not really knowing how to reply.
She let out a quiet laugh when she realized that he was confused. "I've came to the conclusion, that what happened wasn't entirely Misty's fault. So we're going to catch up as friends."
Ash felt his face hardened, still not really able to forgive Misty just yet. "That's fine. I'll let you two be," he replied.
Misty awkwardly raised her hand a bit, to wave at Ash, biting her lower lip nervously.
Ash waved back stiffly, staring down at her lips. If only she knew the effect she had on him with that little action. He shook the thought out of his head, and turned around to see that the other students arrived, as well as the teacher. The only other seat that was vacant was next to Paul. He let out a heavy sigh and made his way to sit down next to him, staring at the board.
Later at lunch
Ursula walked up to Giselle's table and sat down next to her.
"Hi," she greeted, placing her tray of food down onto the table.
"Hey girl," Giselle greeted back, taking a small bite out of her salad.
"So, what do you say we plot against Dawn?" she asked, cutting straight to the point.
Giselle let out a heavy sigh, "Yeah, I've quit plotting against her during the summer. So go look for someone else, besides aren't you her ex-best friend? Isn't there too much history between the two of you?"
Ursula let out a loud snort, "I don't care even if we were blood related. She humiliated me in front of everyone and I'm definitely not going to let her get away with it."
Giselle raised a curious eyebrow at her, "Speaking of last night's fiasco…why did you get sent here?" she questioned her.
"Well, let's put it this way… one night—actually, for several nights—okay maybe a bit more, but anyways I've had one too many drinks, and the rest is history," she explained shortly.
Giselle stared at her for a couple of seconds before asking another question, "Hmm, and what was the whole 'you're nothing without a rich friend to rely on'?" she scrunched up her nose, and stares at her distastefully, "You're not poor, are you?"
"No. Not since last year. My mom married this old guy that was a minute away from death and then he did die and all of his money came to us after he had finally passed," she told her with a slight pout.
She narrowed her eyes at Ursula and looked down at her food, "Gold digger much?" she mumbled under her breath.
Ursula frowned hearing what she mumbled, "What did you say?"
Giselle plastered a fake smile on her face, "Oh, nothing."
Dawn was sitting far away from Giselle and Ursula's table, catching up with Misty. She, herself, did not believe that they would just go back to how they used to be. Especially before the incident. She wished she could hold the blame on Misty, but in her heart she knew that it was Paul. It had to be, because all he will ever be is just a womanizer. She couldn't avoid the truth anymore, she knew she could never tie him down. She was just really glad to get her best friend back. These things happen to best friends all the time, but the fact that they can get through it meant a lot.
Ash walked into the cafeteria. He stared at the table were Dawn and Misty were talking. He wanted to go over there so badly, but he knew it was too awkward between Misty and him and he wasn't really in the mood to deal with that at the moment.
Paul appeared at his side a couple of seconds later, feeling the same situation. He couldn't go over there either. He scowled in annoyance, and casted his gaze at Ash.
"At least I'm not the only one who feels awkward. I guess we're screwed, seeing as we don't really have any other good friends," he told Ash with a mumble.
Ash stared at him with a frown on his face, "Normally I wouldn't agree with you, but since they're back to being friends, I guess we are screwed," he said, feeling his shoulders slump with disappointment.
Paul frowned at him and went to sit down at an empty table, Ash just watched him quietly.
Paul glanced back at him still with an unreadable expression, "You know you can sit down."
Ash let out a heavy sigh and looked away from Paul, "I'd rather kill myself, so we could eat over my dead body."
Paul smirked at that comment, he knew Ash had a twisted sense of humor like him, but he hardly showed it. "Is that a yes to starting over?" he asked him.
"You want to start over? Okay fine. Hi," He extends his other hand that wasn't holding his tray for a handshake. "I'm Ash, you remember almost sleeping with my girlfriend? Misty? Does that ring a bell?" he spoke condescendingly.
Paul's smirk faded from his features and his glare hardened. "You know, at least I'm fucking trying. Obviously if you knew me I usually wouldn't fucking bother. See you around I guess," he stood up from the table, dumping his uneaten food into the trash. He walked out of the cafeteria with a pissed off aura surrounding him.
Ursula watched Paul walk away from Ash and she smirked in amusement. She glanced back at Giselle who was looking at her oddly, "So, if you were trying to take down Dawn…who would you hook up with? Lover boy Paul or Ash?" she asked her, knowing she hit a nerve.
"Probably Ash. Paul would be going too far, she was a wreck when he cheated on her. So, she'd definitely be over-protective of her best friend or whatever the heck he is too her," she stated her opinion, still picking on her salad.
"Hm…" she takes a glance at Ash who was not walking out of the cafeteria as well. 'He's definitely not bad to look at. So revenge is going to be a piece of cake.' She thought, with a growing smile onto her face.
Later after lunch
Ursula walked into her last class of the day only to find Ash Ketchum sitting there all alone. A smirk formed onto her face. 'This will be easier than I thought,' she thought to herself. She walked up to him and took a seat right next to him.
"Hey," she said, smiling brightly at him.
Ash turned to glance at her, and his eyes widened nervously. He looked around to see if anyone was around but they weren't. "Whoa, you can't come closer than ten feet from me. Instructions given from Miss Berlitz herself."
Ursula raised an eyebrow at him and let out a chuckle, "Yeah well, Miss Berlitz is a bitch. No offense intended, of course."
Ash frowned at her, crossing his arms over one another. "That's actually very offensive."
Ursula let out a sigh, knowing that the conversation was going nowhere so she decided to change the topic, "Not to come off as desperate or anything, but rumor has it that you're single. What I want to know is why a hot guy like you is single?"
"Not come off as rude or anything," he mocked slightly, repeating her words, "but I believe that is none of your business. So why don't you find another seat, because the one you are sitting in is taken."
Ursula felt a twinge of humiliation, but she did not want to show it. She smiled slightly which looked like a seductive smile, or at least that's what she was trying to make it look like. She slowly got up and swung her hips from side to side walking to a couple of seats away from him.
Ash quickly fixed his hair, feeling antsy that he can't wear his lucky hat while he was in class. He felt very annoyed with what just happened, feeling someone's stare on them he looked up to see Misty staring at him, shaking her head with a frown.
"I'd never thought she'd be your type…" Misty commented quietly, with insecurity in her voice.
Ash felt his eyes widened, desperately. Knowing that the whole situation Misty thought she saw wasn't what it looked like, "No, no, no! You don't understand Mist, she just wanted to hook up with me," he said, immediately regretting his poor choice of words.
"And that helps your situation, how?" she asked walking away from him to sit down, not bothering to wait for an answer.
Ash frowned feeling a slight ache in his chest. He turned around to face the direction of her seat, "If it helps. I said no, you know I would never do that…"
Misty crossed her arms over her chest, slightly glaring at him. "How generous of you to give up your sex drive for my sake. Be my guest Ash, like you said we aren't together anymore. So it doesn't really matter to you, now does it?" she said, speaking out of the broken heart she had.
Ash felt another pang hit his heart, knowing Misty was only speaking out of hurt and anger. "Can you just stop? I didn't break this relationship up, you did. My sex drive is not even close to where you think it is. I can't even get it up for my own sake!" he said, widening his eyes when he realized what he said. "I have no idea why I even said the last part, but pretend that you didn't even hear it," he said, sweat dropping innocently. He turned back to face the board hearing a couple of students laugh. He slid down in his seat, feeling embarrassed.
She bit her lip, trying to fight the smile that was forming on her face. Misty really missed him and his denseness and quirkiness. She wished that he could just forgive her already.
Ursula frowned at the scene that took place and rolled her eyes in annoyance.
Paul was in his gym class, and the guys were all playing a game of basketball. He ducked around the rival team, and opened his arms showing his teammate he was open. His teammate threw the ball towards him, harder than necessary and the ball hit Paul right in the face. It didn't knock him down, but he glared harshly at the guy who threw it at him. He walked up to him, roughly grabbing his shirt.
"What the fuck is your problem?" he hissed at the guy angrily, blood dripping down his nose.
"My problem is you slept with my fucking girlfriend two years ago!" the guy snapped, pushing him roughly.
Paul pushed him back, "Oh so it's my fault that your girlfriend left you for me? I think you need to make better life choices," he stated sarcastically. The guy was about to lunge at him to start a fight, but before he could the coach quickly intervened.
"What the hell is going on over here?" he snapped at both teenagers.
Paul spat blood, "Just some friendly testosterone competition," he said, still glaring at the guy who slowly gulped at his intimidation. It's a good thing the coach intervened, because once you get Paul angry that was it.
"Well, I can't have you bleeding all over my court Shinji. Go to the nurse's office," he demanded, while Paul nodded his head, bumping shoulders purposely with the guy who started the altercation. The guy fell to the floor, while the coach just shrugged his shoulders.
The coach blew his whistle loudly, "Nothing to see here! Now you ladies call that playing?! My momma could do better than you! Get back out there and show me you are real men!" he shouted to the rest of the team, while they scattered back into their positions.
Paul walked out of the gym and headed straight to the nurse's office that was all the way on the other side of the building. While he was walking he passed by a couple of classrooms, he stopped instantly in his tracks to see Misty, Ash and Ursula each sitting a desk near each other. Ash was in the middle, and on his right was Misty, sitting two seats away from him was Ursula. He took note of Ursula staring at Ash, while Ash was staring at Misty and well Misty was staring down at her desk writing in her notebook. He rolled his eyes sensing a dramatic love triangle on its way, and then he continues walking.
He finally reaches the nurse's office just as he was about to enter, he sees Dawn walking out and he immediately felt concern wash over him. He walks up to her with a frown on his face.
"Troublesome? What are you doing here? Are you okay? Did someone hurt you?" he asked, slightly getting riled up again.
Dawn couldn't help but feel her heart rate speed up completely. She felt touched by his concern. Things aren't any better between the two of them, because no matter how much she tried she couldn't bring herself to forgive him. She knew how sorry and heartbroken he was but she doesn't know if she could ever trust him again. What if he suddenly just did it again? When she realized that she has been standing there just staring at him, she broke out of her thoughts to speak.
"Um… no I'm okay I uh—got my period a bit early and I came to get some tampons…" she said, feeling a bit awkward.
Paul instantly relaxed, but didn't really know what to say to that. "Oh…uh—well at least we know you aren't pregnant…" he said lamely, making an uncomfortable joke. He scratched the back of his neck, causing his veins to pop out of his arms. He shifted from one foot to the other, still not really know what to say.
Her eyes quickly flickered to his muscles. She felt her cheeks turn bright red, she missed the feeling of his arms wrapped around her. He obviously had been working out a lot more. She quickly shakes the thought from her brain when she noticed him bleeding. She frowned and placed her hands on both of his cheeks, looking at the blood.
"What the hell? What happened to you?!" she asked, freaking out a bit.
"This asshole just threw the ball at me, aiming for my face." A small smirk formed its way onto his face as he thought of something, "Maybe you should lend me one of those tampons, like that one movie you always made me watch…?" he said, quietly letting out a chuckle.
She let go of his cheeks, realizing what she did was awkward. She tried to fight the smile that slowly formed on her face. He knew that 'She's the Man' was one of her favorite movies. She handed him one of her tampons with a laugh, "Here you go. But I think you should really get that nose of yours cleaned." She quickly turned around walking the opposite direction, heading towards the bathroom. She bit her lip, realizing that she isn't going to get over him anytime soon.
Paul feels a crooked grin form on his face. He watched her walk away, feeling his breath catch in his throat. He lets out a long, heavy sigh once she disappeared from his view and he walked into the office.
Dawn walked into her and Misty's room when school was finally finished for the day. She dropped her things onto her desk, and plopped on her bed facing Misty.
"Hey," she greeted with a smile.
Misty looked up from her textbook and sighed softly. "So just a warning, I think Ursula likes Ash. She was flirting with him a lot earlier today, but he didn't really pay her any mind. So just a heads up, if you do see them together don't jump to conclusions…" 'Like I did…' she thought sadly to herself.
Dawn sighed softly and shook her head in disbelief. She gave Misty a look of concern, "Once a bitch always a bitch. Ash is a big boy, I'm sure he can take care of himself. But how are you doing? You must be pissed."
Misty bit on her bottom lip, giving Dawn an innocent look. "Huh? Why would I be pissed?"
Dawn raised an eyebrow at her and let out a giggle. She placed a hand on her chest playfully, "Mist, I'm deeply offended that you think I don't know of your feelings for Ash. I know you aren't over him!"
She laughed at Dawn and leaned forward, now laying on her stomach facing Dawn. "Okay, so maybe I do miss him a bit, but it's not like it would make a difference. He hates me…" she said with a small frown.
"Misty, don't make me hit you! How could he hate you? Ash loves you, he always has and always will. He's just hurt right now, and he's being a stubborn ass that's all," Dawn said, trying to comfort her.
Misty licked her lips, leaning over to the nightstand, grabbing her cellphone off of it. She skims through her texts until she found the one she was looking for, the one she couldn't find herself to delete, even though it broke her heart every time she glanced at it. She walked over to where Dawn was sitting and sat at the end of her bed, showing her the screen of the message.
Dawn's brows slowly come together in confusion, "Ash sent you this?" she asked, while Misty nodded her head, "When?" she questioned again.
"Just a couple of days after the incident." She looks down at her hands, sadness clear in her voice, "He hates me Blue…" by now, tears were forming in her eyes.
"Aw," she sits up straighter, pulling Misty into a tight hug, "I'm sure he doesn't. He was probably still in shock from what had happened…"
"Or filled with hatred," Misty finished for her, tears still streaming down her face.
Ash bursts into his room he shared with Paul, slamming the door behind him.
"Dude! Now I know how you felt about Giselle!" Ash complained, with a petrified look on his face.
Paul looks up from the book he was reading and raises a curious brow at him, "Wow, you haven't talked to me in weeks, and that's the first thing you say?"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're sorry you almost slept with my girlfriend. Blah blah blah, I'm sorry for being a dick. Now help me! Ursula is driving me crazy and it's only one day!" Ash whined loudly, pleading with his roommate.
Paul smirked and let out a deep chuckle. He placed his book down on his nightstand and sat up from his bed. "There isn't anything you can do. You just have to ignore her."
"That's all you have to say?! After being chased by Giselle for years, that's the best advice you can give me?! Arceus, I was better off not talking to you," Ash complained, with a frown on his face.
Paul's smirk turned into a tiny grin. He knew that even though things were still a bit tense, Ash was back into his life. Slowly, but surely. He had Ash and Misty but now all that's left is Dawn. He felt determined to fix things with her, especially since the Winter Solace Dance is coming up. He knew she would want to go, hopefully she'd want to go with him.
Dawn was laying on her bed that night. She couldn't sleep, her mind kept going back to what happened earlier that day between her and Paul. His hair was a bit shorter, but it still looked good. She doesn't know if it was possible for him to grow even taller, more or less he looked amazing. She missed him so badly and she was just starting to move on but seeing him right in front of her made her heart skip a beat. But she needed to stop thinking about him…
Maybe she could find someone else? Someone who she could actually trust. Someone who is the complete opposite of Paul, someone not her type.
The next morning
Misty was on her way to class, when Paul ran to catch up with her.
"Ash and I made up," he told her with a content look on his face, signaling he was sort of happy about it.
Misty let out a laugh, "Aw, did you guys have make up sex?" she joked, nudging him playfully.
Paul rolled his eyes at her, "Oh yeah, now I can see why you enjoy it so much," he said with sarcasm evident in his voice.
She scrunched up her nose in disgust, but still giggling nonetheless. "That was way too much information then I needed."
Ash was walking a couple of feet behind them not meaning to hear their conversation, but did anyways. He let out a laugh and ran to catch up with them.
"And the perverted side is back. Welcome back, Paul Shinji," he said, walking past them and into the classroom.
Paul glared at him, "Oi, you'd be lucky to sleep with me!" he screamed after him, so he would hear. A couple of people looked at him strangely while Misty started laughing even harder. He sneered at the people who were laughing and they scattered like bugs, not wanting to be on his bad side.
They both finally reached the classroom and entered it.
"Looks like you and your boyfriend have found a new habit of embarrassing yourselves. Now since you guys have each other you guys can sit together. Have fun!" she told him, waving bye to him as she went up to sit down next to Dawn, who was already seated in her usual seat.
Paul rolled his eyes and went to take a seat next to Ash. They both glared at the people, giving them strange looks.
"So, rumor has it that one our exes wants to sleep with the other, while the other one apparently lost his sex drive? Our choices in boys is slowly dwindling, right?" Dawn said to Misty as soon as she sat down.
Misty glances at the boys who were now arguing over something stupid like usual, but smiles a bit and then glances back at Dawn who was smiling at them as well.
"It's all part of the charm," Misty said with a giggle.
After class
Paul quickly gathers his things, rushing out of the door after Dawn.
"Troublesome! Wait up!" he called out to her, causing her to stop and turn around to face him.
Her eyes widened when she realized that it was Paul calling out her name. She swallows slowly watching him as he walked right up to her.
"Um, hi?" she greeted with hesitation.
"Hi…" he mumbled, scratching the back of his head nervously, "Could we talk?"
Dawn tightened her grip on her bag and casted her gaze on something other than him.
"What's there to talk about?" she asked him with a strained voice.
"About what happened…" he mentioned, wincing slightly when he noticed the painful expression upon her face.
"I don't think there is anything really to say. It happened and it's time to move on already…" And with those last words she turned around to walk away. She felt another huge lump form in her throat and her eyes started to water instantly. She wasn't over it. She doesn't think she could ever get over it.
Paul quickly grabbed her hand before she could go. "Please, Dawn…" his voice softens instantly, and the usual scowl on his face wasn't there. If people could see him right now, they would think that Paul Shinji had gone soft.
"I miss you. A lot…" she was still not facing him, "I—I need you back. You are my everything. Please let's just talk…" he murmured gently.
By now, tears were forming in Dawn's eyes. She couldn't move on. She knew she never would get over this.
"Please, just let go…" she whispered painfully, not wanting to face him. She didn't want him to see her cry.
"Please Dawn. You can't say you don't miss me too…" he growled under his breath, getting agitated slightly. He pulled her closer to him, turning her around. He instantly saw her tears and slammed his lips against hers.
There they were. His soft lips were on hers. Where she loved them to be, but not right at this moment. She felt herself kiss back, but she couldn't do this to herself. She wanted to pull away, so she pushed Paul with as much force in her, breaking the kiss.
His eyes widened immediately when she pushed him away, realizing what he had done. He sees the pained, and shocked expression on her face. He instantly felt like an asshole, and he didn't mean too. He just couldn't control himself.
"Shit… Dawn, I didn't mean—" he tried to get out, but before he could finish she ran away from him.
