Chapter 10 - The Journey
We were off in no time. It took us about two hours to get to the London Institute to get Magnus. Of course we had to stop for a bit so that Tessa could take a look inside. She had told me that since I passed she had not stepped foot into an Institute. The first place she went was to her old room right across from Jem's. She then went to the attic where she reminisced overed our first kiss. Of course we did stop to share another one for old times sake. Last but not least we had to stop in her favorite room in the Institute; the Library. She ran her fingers through all the books we had read together or alone over the years and even saw that there were some new ones. She also saw that there was a new copy of A Tale of Two Cities. Of course she asked me what happen to the old one, and I had told her I found it in my old room. We had to stop by there so she could take it. She had opened the book and discovered her letters to Nate from when she was in the Dark Sisters house. They had made her tear up, but as quickly as the tears came, they went. She was in shock at the fact that I had kept them for so long. After finally getting her to leave, we grabbed Magnus and left to go to The Silent City.
"We're here." Magnus said with delight.
"That didn't take very long." I replied.
Indeed. Jem thought. As we all piled out of the carriage, I helped Tessa out, and she slid her arm through mine. As we slowly walked into the graveyard, I pulled away from Tessa and began to look around. I began to read some of the names on the tombstones. I saw familiar names such as: Starkweather, Fairchild, Branwell, Lovelace, and then I saw Carstairs, and a few steps away I saw Herondale. As I saw it, the first thing that came to mind was Tessa. Had she seen it too? I questioned myself. I turned to look at her. She was motioning to Jem, and began to walk in my direction, I quickly turned away.
"Will?" She asked calmly.
"Yes?" I asked back.
"Are you okay?"
"Yes. I was just looking at the names." I replied, trying to hide the sadness in my voice.
"Do you wish to talk about the names you have seen?" She asked.
"The only question I have is, how often do you come here?"
"How do you know?" She asked.
"The fresh flowers." I replied.
"Oh. Um...I always seem to find my way back here to your family stone almost every week." She explained. I finally turned to her and she began to speak again.
"I seem to find myself here telling you about the journeys I have been on and about how much I miss you. I know it's crazy because you never seemed to reply back but I alway felt like you were still here." She paused for a moment as I reached up and placed my hands around her face. I pulled her face up to mine and kissed her. I was enjoying our kiss when we were interrupted.
"Excuse me William." I released my lips from Tessa's when I looked up Magnus was standing behind her.
"Yes?" I asked.
"I'm so sorry to bother you but we are to go."
"Oh okay." I turned and reached for Tessa's hand. As always she took mine and we headed over to the large angel statue. I took in the statute a little before I noticed Jem adding his blood to the cup the angel was holding. After he placed his blood in the cup, the ground began to open up underneath the angel. As the ground open I noticed that there was a long staircase descending into the opening.
Careful. Jem's voice entered my mind. It could be slippery.
I thought I heard a soft snicker. I rolled my eyes.
"Its underground, why would it be slippery?" I remarked. No one replied. I smirked and took the first step down, with Tessa's hand in mine.
"Have a witchlight by chance?" I asked, and felt my body jump at my words, remembering back when Jem and I would go on errands for Charlotte together.
"I have one." It was Tessa who spoke, as she held it out me.
"Where did you get this?" I asked out of curiosity.
"It was yours. Jem made sure I kept it when you passed." She replied calmly. I then tighten my grip on her hand and gently rubbed my thumb along hers to let her know that I loved her. She smiled and nodded for me to continue.
As we went further under the graveyard I could feel Tessa start to shiver.
"Are you cold?" I asked her.
"No. I'm fine. It's just a little odd being back here again." She explained.
"I completely forgot that you came here to visit Jessamine." I stated.
It's been quite sometime since then. Jem entered my thoughts again. I had nearly forgotten that he was behind us. I glanced back behind Tessa and Jem to check on Magnus. There were blue sparks shining through his fingers.
"You bringing up the rear, Magnus?" I asked laughing.
"You know I always do." He replied laughing back. I glanced at Tessa as I turned back around and noticed that she to was laughing.
"I miss the days like this." She said.
"Like what?"
"The days that you always lighted the mood with your jokes." She explained. I smiled and continued to descend further into the Silent City.
We finally made it to a room where the Silent Brothers were sitting around a circular table.
Brother Zachariah you are back. And I see you have brought guest. One of the Brother's thought. I wondered if everyone could hear him. I glanced over at Tessa and Magnus to see that they too could hear his thoughts. Jem began to reply back,
Yes. This is William Herondale, Theresa Gray, and-. His thought was interrupted by the same Brother.
The Great Warlock of Brooklyn, Magnus Bane. Well hello Magnus.
"Good to see you again Brother Enoch." Magnus replied.
So what brings you here Magnus?
"I am here to help find a solution for Je-, I mean Brother Zachariah. So that he can be healed from the sickness that was caused by the demon long ago before he was a Silent Brother." Magnus explained.
Yes, we are very well aware of our Brothers illness, and we have tried to help him but there is nothing that we can do to help.
"I have found some mundane drugs that might help. I have mixed them into a potion for him but i believe there is something missing." Magnus continued, "I believe you-" He then stopped talking. I knew then that his thoughts were interrupted. I also realized that Brother Enoch was only speaking to Magnus' mind.
"I believe Mrs. Gray could be of much help to us Brother." Magnus then replied.
Very well bring her along. William and Brother Zachariah must stay here. We shall be back momentarily. Please remain here with William, Brother Zachariah, for we do not wish for him to nose around. And with that I released Tessa's hand and kissed her lightly on the check. I whispered,
"I love you, and I will always love you." Into her ear before she followed Magnus and Brother Enoch down a long hallway, where she, Magnus and the Brother were finally out of view.
I glanced around the room and realized that Jem and I were alone.
We hope you enjoyed this Chapter. More to come next Thursday. Review and Follow. Thanks, M. Marvin & N. Nancy.
