Chapter 10
"Leah not too far."
After dinner we decided it was time to show my mom, and twin the safe house. We walk along the trail that connects to our backyard. The kids runs ahead laughing and having races. I'm perched up on Edward's back because I'm too lazy to walk.
"Spoil her too much, and she will become big, and fat. Not to mention very unattractive."
Kate says walking beside us. I laugh
"Kate you're just jealous no one will do this for you."
I say in a playful tone.
"How dare you say such a thing? The idea that I would want someone to carry me when I can simply fly is ludicrous."
She responds in her most dramatic voice.
"Let's have a flying war."
Edward says.
"I'm listening."
Kate says looking up at him.
"You against me. I don't put the human down whoever pulls off the most tricks wins loser is stuck with all the house chores for a week."
"Deal."
"Alice keep track. Bella hold on tight."
I grip on as tight as I can. They take off into the air going pretty high. I look back, and see Alice following closely.
"Age before beauty."
Kate says signaling for Edward to go first.
He does a snake like pattern. I chose this moment to hide my face in his neck.
I feel the twist, and turns he takes, but I don't feel scared since I can't see the outcome. One thing I feel really clearly is when he dives straight down towards the ground.
I hold back the urge to scream, but soon I feel the grass tickle my skin. Edward finally stops and stands still. I let go, and fall to the floor feeling a little dizzy. We hear a light thud, and look over seeing that Kate crash landed.
"Fine you win."
She grumbles getting up.
"Babes you okay?"
Edward looks down at me with concerned eyes.
"That was so much fun! Can we do it again?"
I ask laying down on the grass.
"Maybe later."
Edward says a slight chuckle in his voice. I look around, and see that we are already at the house. I stand up reaching for Edward for stability when I nearly fall over. My mom comes up beside us.
"Is this it?"
We all nod. We slowly walk inside.
"Here, I'll show you all of it. So it's not activated yet, but when it is a silent alarm will be constantly on. The moment you slam the door the alarm signal will be interpreted. Then you come here, and hit the red, blue, and pink button. That will send the automatic message to all of us that you guys are in here. The second the door closed, and the alarm is off the house goes on locked down that means the only way in is DNA. Mine or your mother's."
Esme tells it all in a huge breath. My mom nods her understanding.
"This is not by any means a playhouse or a runaway point, if you're in here it means your dad or someone that is connected to him is close understand?"
Mom asks everyone.
"Yep."
We all say at once. We take a look around. Enough food for a week and basic cable is available. Everyone falls in love with the house, and how pretty, and big it is. I pull Edward out early.
"What is it?"
"Nothing I just want to some alone time with my boyfriend. Is it a crime?'
"Yes it is you're under arrest."
He hugs me close to him. I breathe in the scent of his cologne.
I lean up, and press my lips lightly to his. He deepens the kiss, and I grip onto him tightly. He lifts me up so he wouldn't have to bend over anymore, all the while our lips never parted.
My legs wrap tightly around his waist, and I grip his hair tightly. We pull apart breathing heavy, and go back to kissing. We let loose of our thoughts, and surroundings going off instinct alone.
His hands feel warm as they find a way to make contact with my bare skin. My heart rate goes sky high, and as fast as possible. I can feel every muscle in his chest, and his heart beating against me.
"Gross people get a room or at least the back of a car."
Tanya's entrance makes us pull apart. I undo my hold on him, and he puts me down gently. He walks towards his sister muttering in some foreign language I don't know.
I touch my lips still feeling the heat there. I pout a bit upset that we had been disturbed. I tuck my hair behind my ear, and walk back inside.
Everyone else is walking slowly towards the exit so I walk back out, and sit on the steps. I watch Edward play fight with Tanya. Suddenly coming down a path off to the left are two people.
"Edward?"
I call out getting off the steps, and shutting the door knowing the house still isn't activated. Edward appears in front of me in a flash. He takes a defensive stance in front of me. I peek over his shoulder. The figures become clearer as they come closer, but one stops as the other continues forward.
"Riley?"
I say as I recognize my ex-boyfriend.
"Bella?"
I nod.
"Riley look what I found. It's the necklace I lost."
A small girl with curly brown hair says.
"That's great Jess."
She finally turns, and looks at us.
"Edward!"
She shrieks. I block her way to him by standing in front of him.
"Who are you?"
She asks right rudely.
"I'm Edward's girlfriend Bella. Who are you?"
"Jessica he's…"
"Old charge."
Edward says pulling me beside him. Jessica smiles up at Edward.
"It's good to see you again. It's been so long. I thought I would never see you again."
"Yeah same here. What are you doing here?"
"Running away with my boyfriend Riley."
I lift up my right eyebrow. I let go of Edward, and poke my head into the house.
"Can we go?"
"In a minute."
I go back just in time to hear Jessica say.
"Yeah I got there just as he was reading a letter from his ex-girlfriend that dumped him. What a tramp. She even went out to make this elaborate story on how she couldn't start because of her past, and how it's catching up to her. I mean honestly what a freak."
"I'll watch what you say because I'm his ex-girlfriend."
I say glaring at her. She gives me a look up, and down.
"Oops. I didn't think Riley had such bad taste before me. Especially the way he described you in the beginning."
I look up at Edward hoping he would defend me, but instead he looks away then back over to the girl.
"Edward lets go. I want to go have some pie now."
"Typical fat ass always thinking in food."
That's when I snapped. I couldn't stand this girl, and her arrogant attitude anymore, so just like Edward taught me I made a fist, and punched her in the nose. I heard a satisfying crack from her nose.
"Bella!"
Edward yells pulling me back. I could see the blood coming out of her nose. I think I broke it. I look at Edward right innocent.
"Not nice."
He says.
"She started it."
I say, and turn starting the run down the path. Tears sting my eyes as I run, but I refuse to let them out. He's just a stupid boy, but he said he loved me, but he didn't defended me. I guess he just didn't care that much I jump up onto a tree branch, and pull myself up. I climb as high as I could which isn't too high since the bark slippery, and I don't want to take any chances.
The wet bark soaks my jeans quickly as I lean against the tree. I watch Edward run pass me calling out my name. I'm glad it's raining still otherwise my scent would be a dead giveaway. Soon afterwards Alice runs by yelling out my name in a pissed off tone of voice.
Once I see my mom walking pass I climb down by then Edward, and Alice had run past. I walk behind my mom, and Esme. Carmen stayed back because she had a nursing degree. Kate, and Tanya are the ones activating the house.
I stay quiet knowing my mom isn't happy with me right now, but she wasn't there. She didn't know the put downs. Esme keeps my mom's attention as the kids run ahead again. We get to the house to find Edward, and Alice looking for me in the house.
"There you are."
Alice yells out when she sees me. I stretch, and kick off my boot. I hang up my coat, and sweater.
"Yes here I am."
I answer once I was done. Edward runs up.
"What the heck is wrong with you! Punching someone like that! What I'm teaching you is for self-defense only!"
Me? What's wrong with you! She is putting me down, and you do nothing about it! I', done talking to you! I'm in my room. Good night!"
I slam my bedroom door, and lock it. I lock the balcony door as well. I get undressed, and put my clothes out to dry.
I jump into a warm shower, and for the longest time I sit there looking at the wall as the water comes down on me.
I think back to everything. How he never once spoke up for me, even though I really wanted him to. Maybe just maybe that girl means more to him then I do. After all we've known each other for a few months they known each other for a whole lifetime.
Maybe I am fat. Yeah that's it. I just won't eat for a while that's all. I lean my head on the wall, and let myself just stare off into the distance
