Chapter 10: Interview

"Make sure you guys don't leave anything behind," Wildwing instructed as he checked over the contents of his duffle bag, as were everyone else. It had been a couple of hours since the hockey team had been announced and now everyone was packing up to head back home.

Not till after they were told by the coach that they had to return in two weeks for their first team practice. Now that they made the team they had to learn how to work together with their new teammates. But for now they could relax and enjoy the down time they had so much deserved.

"Believe me bro," Nosedive responded as he looked over the railing of the bunk bed. "I don't want to leave anything behind." He then pulled his pillow up and collected his comics that he stashed underneath there.

"Yeah, something tells me that you would go crazy if any of your reading material disappeared," Canard joined as he sat on his bunk, bag already packed.

"Hey that's something not to joke about," the teen responded with a glare as he carefully put the comics in his bag. "Some of these are rare."

"Lay off the kid," Duke playfully responded with a shake of his head. Sitting on the top bunk of his bed. "He has his interests and we have ours."

"Just have some harmless fun," The older tan mallard responded as he zipped his bag up and stood on his feet.

Just then the door to their dorm opened and Mallory and Tanya came in, bags and gear slung on their shoulders. "Come on, what's taking you guys?" Mallory asked, arms crossing as the two of them stared at their male teammates.

"We have a lot of stuff, it takes time," Nosedive responded as he climbed down from his bed.

"One cannot rush another, we all go at our own speed," Grin responded as he sat on the floor. He was already packed and waited for the others.

"It takes time, or you slacked off didn't you?" Mallory said to Nosedive.

"Hey, I have important items to pack," the teen responded.

The red head was about to retort but then the door to their room opened in came Phil, a wide grin on his face. "Boobies, there you all are!"

"Hey Phil," WIldwing responded for all of them.

"See what did I tell you, you all made the team!" The manager announced proudly.

"It still was hard," Canard answered as he stood up from his bed. "And believe me it wasn't a guarantee."

"Still, you all made it and you're going to the Olympics!" the overweight human stated as he pulled his phone out. "Oh man I have to make calls, get promotions up, this is a big gold mine-"

"Phil, no," Wildwing responded, eyes locked on with the manager with a serious expression.

"What?" he responded, seeing the look and stopping his actions.

"Phil, we just got done with the trials and we all want some rest. Not to be hounded by the media and asked many questions about this. So please, for once just let us have some peace for a bit," Wildwing asked, his teammates nodding as they sided with their captain.

"Oh…ok…I understand that," Phil nervously sweat dropped, but luckily they didn't see it. "I'm dead in a few hours," He thought to himself.

"Anyway we're just about done and ready to head out," Duke announced as he hopped off from his bunk, bag slung over his shoulder.

"Yeah, can't wait to get back to the pond," Tanya said. "I'm surprised there was no trouble while we were gone."

"I know, lucky," Wildwing responded as he picked up his back. "Come on now, we have to go and get the Aerowing before we can relax.

"Yeah, we know," Nosedive responded as he zipped up his bag.

"Hey guys, can I catch a ride?" Phil asked as they all looked at him. "I took a plane and I really don't want to wait for a return flight."

"Sure, come on," Wildwing responded as they all exited the room. This was a place that they were going to miss a bit. The halls empty as the rest of the players had left already.

Just as they did they found Hunter exiting his room, all packed up. Turning his head he saw the ducks, "Hey guys, heading out?"

"Yeah, headed back home," Wildwing responded, smile on his beak.

"It was nice meeting you all," Hunter shook their hands. "And it'll be great being on the same team as you all."

"Same here," Duke said for the team. "And thanks for all the help you've given us through this whole thing. It helped a lot."

"Hey, I'm a helpful guy, have to look out for each other," he smiled as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper. "Here, if you guys have questions about the Olympics in general just give me a call, I have firsthand experience."

Duke took the paper, "Thanks, appreciate that."

"You're welcome, have to go now, my flight leaves in two hours, see ya!" he turned and walked, getting waves from the ducks.

"Nice guy," Tanya responded.

"His aura is good, he means no harm," Grin responded as they all walked.

They soon got out of the dorms and headed for the front doors but someone was waiting for them. "Oh Mr. Grant," Phil said as they saw the speed skater recruiter.

"Hello you all, I'm sorry for taking your time but I needed to talk to Nosedive before you leave," the human responded as he walked over to the team.

The teen sighed as his head shook, Wildwing, Phil and himself knew what this was about, "I'm sorry I still haven't decided on it yet."

"How long do you think it'll take you?" Thomas asked.

"I don't know, I just can't think about it right now." Nosedive shook his head, "I just got off of the trials and I'm not sure about it. I just want to relax some and take time to clear my head before deciding on it."

Thomas sighed as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a card, "Ok, but at least let me know by the end of the week. I need to submit a roster soon."

Nosedive nodded and took the card, "Thank you."

"Have a good day," he smiled as he left them, the ducks then resumed heading out of the building.

It had been a couple of hours since the Ducks left Utah and were nearing the Pond. They all were happy to see some of the familiar sites of Anaheim after being gone for a week. They all smiled as they saw as they were approaching the Pond.

"Home sweet home," Nosedive said from the Co-pilot seat.

"I know baby bro, good to be back," Wildwing smiled from the pilot seat.

"It's surprising that nothing happened while we were gone," Mallory said from her seat in the back.

"Yeah, either way it'll be good to just kick back once we land," Wildwing smiled. Everyone couldn't have agreed more as they approached the landing strip in the Pond.

"Oh yeah there's something I have to tell you all once we're in," Phil then spoke up as he started to look nervous.

Nearly twenty minutes later after they had landed and taken all their bags off the Aerowing, Phil then explained something. "You WHAT!" Wildwing shouted out.

"I already alerted the press about you all being picked for the Olympics and set up an interview," Phil moved back nervously with his hands up. All the ducks were staring at their manager, shocked and irritated with this news. "One that starts in half an hour."

Wildwing slapped his hand against his forehead, "Phil didn't we tell you that we wanted to relax a while before word got out."

"And also getting pestered with questions and the like," Mallory added.

"And no doubt having to start turning down all the publicity stunts you would have lined up," Canard added in third.

"Best save that for another day," Phil mentally said as he continued. "I already told them before you all requested to rest. I can't cancel it since the news is already out and-"

"Oh no, come on!" Wildwing called out as he and the team left the hanger and headed for the Rec Room. Once inside they all either stood or sat down on the couch as Wildwing turned on the TV and changed it to one of the sports news challenges that were broadcasting news for the Olympics.

Apparently they turned it on right in the middle of the segment as the middle age male talked. "…It was confirmed a few hours ago by their manager that our very own Mighty Ducks have been selected to represent the United States in this year's winter Olympics."

This caused a frustrated sigh to come out of them all. "Well the news it out now," Canard said as he leaned back in the couch.

"So much for Re…Re…Rel…taking it easy," Tanya leaned forward in her seat.

"This news has been confirmed by their manager, Phil Palmfeather who was at the hockey trials along with them. Luckily he managed to schedule a live interview along with a Q&A session that will be broadcasted live in less than thirty minutes, so stay turned to-"

Right then Wildwing turned off the TV and tossed the remote to the side. The news was out and their carefully planned relaxation time went out the window now. Things were going to get hectic from this point out. Sighing he stood up, "Alright, I know we don't want to do this but might get it over with. Change into something nice and be ready in twenty."

They all sighed as well as they got up and walked out of the Rec room, heading to their own rooms to change. "Remind me to get back at Phil for this," Duke commented to them all.

"That makes two of us," Mallory sided with the thief as they all left the room.

"Wing do I really have to comb my hair?" Nosedive wined as he looked at himself in the mirror from the bathroom they shared. His hair the usual style he had it.

"You want to look presentable for something like this," Wildwing called out from their room as he buttoned up his long sleeved black collared shirt.

"But my hair always looked fine," the teen complained as he walked out of the bathroom. Dressed in dark blue jeans with a long sleeve white button up shirt. "And I already agreed to wear this shirt even though I don't like it."

"Would you rather have the suit Phil got you," the older Flashblade said.

That caused a shrudder to come out of the blonde, remembering the day Phil made him and Grin buy a suit just like his. "No, never again."

"Then comb your hair so it can look nice," Wildwing shook his head.

"That didn't stop me from having messy hair in past interviews," Nosedive kept on complaining.

That caused a sigh to come out of the older brother as he gave up, "Fine, you can keep your hair the way you have it, but you owe me later." He finished buttoning his shirt and then dusted his blue jeans.

"It's worth it," the teen happily responded as he tossed the comb back into the bathroom. "Teenage rebellion wins again."

"Alright you rebel, come on it's almost time," Wildwing responded as he waited for his brother to come. Together they then left their room to join the others.

A few minutes later they joined the others, who were standing right outside the room where they usually have their interviews. All of them dressed nicely.

"About time you two got here," Duke responded, wearing a black T-shirt with a wine colored coat over it, unbuttoned.

"Why is it you two are always last to arrive?" Mallory asked, wearing a nice red blouse.

"Well the rebel here complained about his hair," Wildwing responded in his defense, which caused the teen to give his brother a look of 'thanks a lot bro'.

"Rebel?" Canard answered, wearing a white shirt with a black coat over it.

"It'll take long to explain," Nosedive responded.

"We never can fully explain our actions since we constantly do many things," Grin responded. He managed to wear navy button up shirt over his burly frame.

"Either way it's almost time for us to go out there," Tanya responded, wearing a yellow and white blouse.

"Ok guys, lets just get through with this and we can take the next few days off," Wildwing told his team, which seemed to settle with them.

Just then the door opened and Phil popped in, "Come on."

They all sighed as Wildwing took the lead and walked in first, right then they were met with applause from the many reporters that were seated inside the large room. Followed by lights and flashes from cameras that the reporters had, taking pictures as they entered. There was a stand with a table set up, with a back drop that had their team logo on in. Seven chairs and microphones were set up as they all took their seats.

Wildwing sat in the middle, Nosedive to his right, followed by Tanya and Canard. To his left Mallory sat, followed by Duke and Grin. The applauses died down once the ducks took their seats, the session getting on the way.

"Hello, and thank you for coming," Wildwing was the first one to speak. "As you already know we all indeed have been chosen to compete in the Olympics."

It was then one of the main reporters stood up, a middle age female with red hair. "What originally interested you all in competing in the trials?"

"It was basically our manger that informed us of it, at first we weren't sure but we ended up considering it after talking among one another," Wildwing responded.

Mallory then spoke next, "It was a great experience to meet all sorts of players all over the country and trying to work with them."

"We know you just come off of the trials, do you mind telling us how you all feel?"

Canard ended up taking that question, "We're all tired, we all literally just got in after the last day of the trials. But still we were all shocked that we all got chosen for the team."

Many in attendance started writing things down as the cameras continued to broadcast everything. Someone new then started to ask questions. "We all know that you all are a small team, so how does it feel that you are going to play with other players that you don't know?"

"In a way we're all strangers, it's something that can be overlooked and we can learn to adapt," Grin said next.

"It's going to be new to us, but I know that we can overcome this and learn to plays with our teammates," Wildwing said next.

"From what we found out they're all friendly and that's all that matters to us," Duke said next.

"Also, this may have been established," the questioner started. "But some people have talked and said you all may not be citizens of this country, is that true?"

Once again Wildwing leaned into so he could answer. "No it's not, if it was true then this interview wouldn't be happening. Yes, we are citizens of this country since our manager took care of that, so we are legal to enter the Olympics."

"We wouldn't have been at the trials if we weren't," Nosedive took over next. "We were told of the rules and the officials cleared us to compete."

"Usually there are only men and women's divisions for hockey, but this is the first time where they mix. How do you all feel about that?"

"It's great to hear, because we don't we would have considered it if we couldn't play together," Mallory answered.

"It's true," Canard then continued with the answer. "It wouldn't have been the same without them."

A male reported then stood up and asked a question, "This is for Mr. Thunderbeak. You only been a part of the Mighty Ducks for a few months, how does it feel that you're going on to something larger than the NHL in such little time?"

Canard silently cleared this throat as he leaned into the mic. "I see it as a challenge and I'm up to it. I've known these guys for so long and I'm glad I'm going into this with them."

"This one if for Mr. L'Orange," the reported said next. "We all notice you have a handicap." They were referring to his the patch hiding his injured eye. "Is this going to play a factor as you're playing against much better players?"

"Nah, I never considered it a handicap," Duke responded with a smile. "I still have one good eye and it's all I need to compete, it doesn't matter how good they are I can still play no matter what."

"Now this is for the ladies," the reported said. "We know you two play in the NHL but how does it feel to be playing in a league where there could be males larger and stronger than you?"

"We're up for it," Mallory responded. "We're not afraid of any of them and we look forward to playing against them."

"We played against players all over the country," Tanya responded next. "Now we look forward to playing against players all over the world."

Just then a new reported came up to ask a question, "This is for Nosedive. Sources say that you were approached and asked to compete in Speed skating as well-"

"Whoa, where did you hear that?" Duke suddenly asked, cutting the reporter off.

"I have sources that confirmed this," the reporter responded.

"Really?" Wildwing responded as he looked in Phil's direction. The manager held his hands up and shook his head, indicating that it wasn't him.

"Yes and I was told he would instantly be on the team if he agreed."

Nosedive decided to be the one to answer, sighing he leaned in, "Yes, it's true." There were murmurs in the crowd as he revealed this news. "The recruiter came to me during the trials and asked me, I told him to I would think about it."

"You are said to be the fastest on the ice, don't you think this would be a great opportunity for you?"

"It might be but two events…it made me really want to think about it," the teen responded, now not wanting to continue with this topic.

"We're not pressuring him to do so," Wildwing said next. "It's his decisions to make. Yes or no, it doesn't matter to us."

"Playing one event will be consuming enough that we don't want to pressure him to add more to the plate," Duke said next.

"But the question is, are you going to do Speed Skating?" all eyes along with the cameras were on the teen, waiting for the answer.

"I don't think he has an answer yet but-" Wildwing stared to say but his brother put a hand on his shoulder, quieting him some. The teen looked at his older brother and made a silent comment that he'll take over.

Nosedive then looked at the crowd, taking a breathing before speaking. "Believe me when I say this is something that has been hard for me to think about. I'm tired and not really in the frame of him to debate it but…" He looked at the cameras, then his teammates, who were looking at him. They all were looking at him in question, wondering what else he had to say. " But I thought about it…and I'm joining Speed skating."

A/N: Hope you like, hopefully the interview part went well. I tried with this part and it seemed easy but ended up being hard to write. Now I'm not sure what to do in the next chapter. Debating whether to have some more time between before the Olympics or just fast forwarding to the opening ceremony just to get things along. I really have to think about it. Either way, till next time.
