I know, I know. I'm a horrible person for dropping off the radar. I don't know what to say except I had a writer's block. I partially overcame it, although I'll let you guys be the judge of that. Let me know what you think. It's (the chapter) rather short by the way, sorry.
Touch Me Not
Chapter 10
From the closet Kagome slipped into the nurse's office, hoping that the woman wasn't there. She was out of luck though because as she entered she saw the nurse Ms. Harlin sitting at her desk reading. As she entered the nurse looked up and smiled. "Hello Kagome, How may I help you?"
Kagome twisted her fingers behind her back nervously. "I just…ah… need some gauze that's all."
Ms. Harlin frowned and stood up. "What's wrong? Why do you need gauze? If you're hurt you should let me look at it first."
"Uh…no I'm not hurt, I'm fine. I just wanted a piece of gauze to wrap something." Kagome said softly and slapped herself mentally. 'Nice going Higurashi.'
Ms. Harlin walked around her desk to stand in front of Kagome. "I'm glad that you're not hurt, but what do you need to wrap?"
Kagome sighed; if she didn't hurry up she wouldn't get to any of her classes on time. "I need it to wrap my breasts, my bra broke."
She watched as the worried look on Ms. Harlin's face melted into a knowing one. "Okay sure. Got a little impatient did we?"
Kagome blushed. "We…uh…didn't— "
Ms. Harlin smiled as she grabbed some gauze out of a cabinet. "You don't have to explain to me Kagome. Although I wish you had waited longer before having sex, I can't stop you. The least I could do is give you condoms though, so you practice safe sex."
Kagome blushed harder. "But…we…uh…we didn't have sex and if I was- I'm not saying that I did, but if I was- I'm on the pill so you don't have to worry about me getting pregnant."
Ms. Harlin gently pulled Kagome behind one of the changing screens and gestured for the teen to lift her shirt. Kagome complied and the nurse bean wrapping. "Ok, but the pill doesn't protect from STD's Kagome. Do you know if your partner is clean?"
Kagome smiled. "I'm pretty positive that he's clean, but I'll make sure before we do anything."
Nurse Harlin finished wrapping and tied it off. "Okay, good. Make sure that you're clean too Kagome."
Kagome spluttered. "But I-I I'm not…I'm still a virgin!"
Nurse Harlin smiled and patted Kagome's shoulder and walked over to her desk to write something. "Glad to hear it Kagome, just be careful." She handed the note to Kagome with a smile. "Go on ahead to class.
Kagome walked out of the nurse's office and heaved a heavy sigh of relief, glad for that very embarrassing moment to be finally over. A few seconds later she ran her hands through her hair and walked off in the direction of her classroom, hoping to put that moment behind her.
Lunch Time
Inuyasha walked into the cafeteria, his golden eyes scanning the crowd for the black haired beauty he had quickly become obsessed with. Call him a softie for smiling in pleasure when he saw that he was already seated at his table…well their table now… and he would rip your tongue out of your stupid mouth. Inuyasha was no softie, period. The woman was a witch and she put a spell on him, it was just that simple. He made his way over to their table, ignoring the looks from the fellow students that were gathered for lunch, and sat down next to Kagome. She smiled at him and his heartbeat sped up. See what he meant? She had to be a witch.
Swiping a chicken tender off of her plate he popped it into his mouth. "Okay, its lunch time now spill."
Kagome dipped her tender into her dipping sauce and popped it into her mouth. "Hello Inuyasha, my day was fine, how is your day going?"
Inuyasha rolled his eyes at her sarcasm and folded his arms. "Get on with it Kags."
Kagome popped another tender into her mouth and sighed. "Okay well there is this girl named Megan-"
"You mean Psycho Meg?" Inuyasha interrupted her. He glared at the table and spoke under his breath so low that Kagome almost didn't hear it, almost. "I can't kill her so I'll have to frighten her somehow."
Inuyasha yelped when a small hand slapped his hand. "Why do you call her Psycho Meg? And no you will not harm her, I can handle myself."
Inuyasha blinked and rubbed the spot where she hit his hand, not because it hurt but because it tingled from her touch. "I don't call her that the school calls her that because she has this major crush on Kouga and although she keeps getting rejected and ignored when she tries to make passes at him she still firmly believes that he is her boyfriend and that they are a couple."
Kagome drew her attention back to her food and picked up a tender. "Hmmm…interesting."
Not being able to hold out a minute longer Inuyasha reached for her hand that was closest to him which happened to be her right and tucked in into his hands, brushing a thumb over her skin in a light caress. His heart sped up as the witch cast her spell over him again and he looked up into her eyes which held a smile just for him. And just like that Inuyasha knew that he was getting closer and closer every day to the edge of the cliff and one day she would push him over the edge and he would fall for her…hard.
A little afraid of his rapidly deepening feelings for her he smiled and looked away and attempted to ask a question to distract himself from his depth of emotions for the girl. "So how'd she bruise you up like that? Didn't you fight back?"
Kagome brushed her thumb along his finger and shrugged. "She used to push me in corridors or hit me while we did P.E. you know little stuff like that. She was upset because Kouga paid attention to me every now and then." She chuckled when she heard Inuyasha growl lowly. "How cute, you're jealous."
Inuyasha stopped growling instantly. "Keh." He replied.
Kagome smiled and continued to explain all to him, leaving the part where she shocked Megan out, until she could explain to him about her little secret first. She knew that he knew that she left something out but he was sweet enough not to call her out on it.
Inuyasha released Kagome's hands and rested his on the table face down. "Okay, I won't kill her, and I'm not entirely convinced that you can handle yourself but I'll take your word for it."
Kagome nodded and stood up to throw away her trash. "Now..." She sighed and stretched her neck. A quick peak at her watch told her that they had fifteen minutes more before lunch ended. "Let's go for a walk."
Kagome took a deep breath as she stepped outside into the fresh air, her companion looking down at his shoes as they walked. Neither spoke for a while but the silence wasn't unwelcomed, no words needed to be spoken; both were content to spend the remainder of the lunch period in each other's company. They walked through what the students called 'the area.' It was just a stretch of land with grass and a few trees that provided some shade, nothing fancy. A lot of students went there to sit and relax with their friends in the grass to chat and whatever else they did. A good many were there now laughing, dancing, and some singing and even a few throwing around a soccer ball. Kagome, watching the different teens interact, looked at Inuyasha whom was also watching everyone. Kagome couldn't tell what he was thinking, his face gave nothing away, but when he looked at her she saw sadness in his eyes and it tore at her heart.
The bell sounded signaling the end of the lunch period and Kagome quirked an eyebrow at the hanyou. "Race you to class?"
Inuyasha smirked as the excitement and playfulness caught ahold of him, pushing away the momentary sadness that had clouded his vision. "You're on slowpoke." He said before taking off leaving Kagome behind.
"Hey!" Kagome called out. "That's not fair, you're cheating!" she laughed racing to catch up with him.
Inuyasha looked back with a smile on his face, "Quit your whining woman!"
It was four –thirty on a Friday afternoon, school was out for the weekend, homework was tossed into a corner of the room and school clothes were swapped for casual wear. Kagome was currently in the video store in town looking for an interesting film to watch and having a hard time with it. So far she couldn't make up her mind on what she wanted to watch. Did she want to see a Drama or a Horror? Or maybe Science Fiction? Romance or a Comedy?
Kagome sighed. "Why must teens be so indecisive?"
"Hey lady?" came a small voice and a tug on her blouse. Kagome turned and looked down to meet the odd red eyes of a little boy with very dark black hair shifting from foot to foot nervously.
"Yes?" she smiled at him and bent to his level.
He didn't smile back but stopped shifting his feet. "Can you get a movie for me?" he pointed to the top shelf of a section of movies nearby. "I can't reach it."
'He's so cute.' Kagome thought mentally before nodding. "Sure." The boy took hold of her hand and led her over to the shelves of movies where his movie sat.
"Okay, which one do you want?" she asked him. The little boy pointed and said "the one with the monster."
Kagome looked in the direction he was pointing and saw that he was meaning Beauty and the Beast. She grabbed it and bent down to him. "Here you go."
"Thank you." He said.
"What's you name little one?" Kagome asked sweetly.
Before the boy could answer a concerned female voice called out. "Hitaru!"
Kagome turned to see to her amazement a lady that looked a lot like her. It was like looking in a mirror. It was weird.
The lady walked over and grabbed ahold of the little boy's hand. "Didn't I tell you not to wander off?"
"But I was getting the movie I wanted." He replied.
"No buts," the lady scolded. "You were to stay where I could see you."
The kid sighed, "Okay mom." Hitaru's mom had been bent on a knee the whole time she talked to her son so she hadn't looked up at the woman beside her. She stood and started to apologize. I'm sorry if he caused any…trouble." She finished lamely as she got a good look at the girl. She was the spitting image of her except for a few tiny differences like hair and eye color and height.
Kagome mentally shook herself and smiled. "He was no trouble, he just asked for my assistance in getting his movie."
The lady blinked and smiled a small smile. "Well thank you Miss…?"
"My name Is Kagome." She replied.
The lady nodded. "My name is Kikyo. It was a pleasure to meet you." Kikyo turned to her son and grabbed ahold of his hand, "Come on, we have to get to the airport."
"Bye nice lady." The little boy, Hitaru waved as his mom dragged him to the cashier counter.
Kagome just stood there, her mouth agape and her heart racing a mile a minute. That was Kikyo? She mentally ran through the details that Inuyasha told her and decided that yes it was her. Kagome dashed up to the counter looking for the woman and caught her just as she was about to leave.
"Excuse me Miss Kikyo!" she called.
Kikyo turned to see the woman from the store behind her. "Yes?"
"Your name sounds familiar. Did you once live around here?" Kagome asked politely.
Kikyo's eyes widened in shock and she lied and shook her head no. Kagome rested a hand on her shoulder as she was about to leave. "I'm sorry it's just that my best friend has a sister named Kikyo and I was wondering if you were her."
Kagome heard a gasp escape the woman's mouth and watched as she picked up her son and turned to face the street. "You're a friend of Inuyasha's?" Kikyo asked a silent moment later. Hitaru looked on quietly in his mother's arms.
Kagome nodded. "Yes."
Kikyo sighed and nodded. "I was his sister at one point but I am no longer. Tell him that I said I am sorry, will you? I must go now."
"Where are you going?" Kagome asked her quickly.
"I'm going back to the Bahamas." She said as she walked away. "Take care of him Kagome."
Kagome watched the woman who deeply wounded Inuyasha with her betrayal walk away from her and Inuyasha although he didn't know it.
Kagome turned and walked pass the video store to go look for some food, she wasn't in the mood to watch a movie anymore.
Inuyasha opened the door for Kagome later that evening and was met with a face full of grocery bags.
"Geez, did you have to buy out the whole damn store?" Inuyasha grumbled.
"Oh shut up and help me with them already." Kagome growled.
Inuyasha quirked a brow and grabbed a couple bags out of her hand. "What got stuck in your ass?"
"I got stuck behind a senior citizen, who had a butt load of things in his cart, then he wanted to put some back but he took FOREVER to decide what he wanted to put back. I couldn't go to another cashier because the lines were long so I had to wait!" Kagome vented her frustration and when she was one she bit angrily into a Twinkie.
Inuyasha stood in the kitchen next to the cupboard with a smile on his face. "Feel better now?"
Kagome rolled her eyes. "Oh sure, laugh at my misery." Inuyasha walked over and guided her hand to his mouth a bit off a piece of her sugary confection. "But you feel better, admit It." he said around the food in his mouth. Kagome smiled and wiped some icing off of his mouth. "You're such a pig, but yes I do feel better." She then popped her finger into her mouth, fully aware that Inuyasha was watching her.
Inuyasha swallowed and turned to put away more things to hide the hungry look he was sure she could see in his eyes. Kagome smirked and then frowned, Kikyo's message nagging at her to be told. She wanted to tell him but wasn't sure how he would take it. Then again she did have a message for him. Sighing she decided he should know.
Kagome walked over to him and grabbed a few things to help put away. "I saw someone today."
He didn't turn to face her but she saw is ear twitch in her direction. So she continued. "I was at the video store looking for a movie and I bumped into your sister." She saw him stiffen and then he went back to putting away things. "I don't have a sister."
"She said the same thing." Kagome replied. Inuyasha closed the fridge after putting away the milk and left the kitchen without saying a word. Kagome followed him into the living room and sat down next to him on the couch. She grabbed his hand and rested it into her lap and held it. "She said to tell you she was sorry."
"Yeah, well it's a little too late for that." He said quietly.
"Why didn't you tell me that I looked like her." Kagome questioned a minute later.
"Because you don't." he said gruffly.
Kagome furrowed her brows. "What do you mean, I saw her you know."
Inuyasha shrugged. "So you said."
Kagome rolled her eyes. "So I saw that we look alike."
Grabbing the remote, he turned on the television and began channel surfing. "I don't see it."
Kagome wasn't deterred and turned the TV off. "How could you not?" she replied.
Inuyasha looked at Kagome and turned it back on.
The two repeated the action for another minute or so before Inuyasha snatched the remote for the last time. "Because you're not her, you're Kagome." He turned the television off and turned his body in the couch to face her. "When I look at you I see a beautiful, caring, generous, loving, accepting person. Kikyo was nothing like you, and I'll admit that you look similar at first glance. But that's where the similarities end."
Kagome smiled a watery smile and hugged his hand to her chest. "Okay. Thanks."
Inuyasha rolled his eyes. "Don't go getting all soft on me now I was just stating facts. Can I watch the damn television now?"
Kagome chuckled and nodded. As he turned the television on and sat back to watch it, Kagome inched closer to him until her shoulder was touching his. Inuyasha glanced at her once or twice as she smiled at him and settled back into watching TV. He would never understand girls.
