Sam blinked, not believing the sight before her.
"What's going on?" she asked, puzzled.
"It's not what it looks like," Rose said emphatically.
And then she pushed Scorpius away from her and he stumbled backwards and landed on his butt.
"Really?" laughed Sirius, "Cause I know what I think it looked like."
"What do you have to say for yourself?" demanded Albus of Scorpius, advancing on the boy menacingly.
"It's really not what it looks like," repeated Rose earnestly.
"Please explain," Sam said trying to look tough and play the role of disapproving parent by placing her hands on her hips.
"We were arguing-"
"No surprises there," muttered Al, "but I don't see how-"
"Oh shut up, Al," Rose grumped, "And don't interrupt."
"Alright, alright," he mumbled, shamefaced.
"We were arguing," Rose tried again, "and…and I punched him."
"You what?" asked Sirius, laughing in disbelief.
Ah that explains that sound of pain from earlier.
"But, I still don't get it," Sam said confusedly, hands falling to her sides.
"Well," hesitated Rose before staring pointedly at the blonde boy on the floor.
"I tripped over," Scorpius said quietly and embarrassedly
"You what?" sniggered Sam.
"I tripped over," he said again, blushing, "When I was walking towards her."
"Sure you did," drawled Sirius.
He's having way too much fun with this.
Rose and Scorpius both blushed bright pink.
"It was all very innocent" said Rose rather prudishly
"Sure," drawled Sam, "Punching people is completely innocent."
Rose's cheeks darkened.
"Sam, I thought you were my friend," she pouted.
"I am," said Sam with a smile, "And part of being a friend is embarrassing them and teasing them."
"So," Sirius glanced at Rose and Scorpius and then at Sam and Albus, "Do we believe them?"
Sam made a big show of pondering the situation, stroking an imaginary beard and pacing around the corridor.
She then stopped in front of Rose and peered closely at the girl before abruptly turning and doing the same close inspection of the blonde boy.
"Yes," she announced after stepping back, "Besides Rose being violent and Scorpius being clumsy, nothing happened here."
Both teens in question slumped and sighed in relief.
"You know," supposed Sam, "It's a good thing that it was us that found you two, rather than those gossipy girls, Tayla and Hannah."
Rose's blue eyes widened, "That would have been awful."
Scorpius shifted uncomfortably and looked as if he wanted to say something but, guessing what he wanted to say, Sam gave him a meaningful look and he kept his mouth shut.
"So, anyway," Rose started, wanting to get the attention onto someone else, "What have you and Sirius been up to today?"
Sam's thoughts immediately jumped to lying on the grass with Sirius practically crushing her, his face only inches away.
"Uh…" she stalled, trying not to blush.
"We went flying for a little bit," Sirius interjected, causing Sam to sigh.
"Oh," said Rose, "Did you have fun?"
Sirius rubbed his head, "Uh…"
"Not really, no," Sam spoke up, "There were a lot of injuries…"
The group of friends fell into an awkward silence and that would set the tone for the rest of the day.
Sunday was a rather quiet day but it did have Sam almost constantly worrying about the next day, the first official day of work.
She would swing between feeling almost sick with fear of failing and throwing herself into anything that would distract her.
Sirius noted amusedly the way the expressions on her face would change.
Sam would start off grinning, but the happy curve would slowly melt into a frown, then she would bite her lip and her breathing would become quicker.
His favourite part was when she would literally shake herself, jump up and shout 'Stop worrying!' and then proceed to grab the nearest person and talk to them about random things, smiling all the while.
When Monday and the first lesson of the day arrived however, Sam realised her anxiety had been for nothing.
She had confessed to Sirius that she wanted to blend in at first but, to his amusement; there was no way she wouldn't stand out in the class…
Whisper-yelling excitedly about everything every few minutes was not the ideal way of staying under the radar.
And then there was the way she paid an almost disturbing level of attention to every word their professors would say.
Sirius was sure everyone who had seen her would agree with him that Samantha was an odd little duck indeed.
"Come on," encouraged Sirius, "You've got to come and cheer me on."
He clapped his hands together as if he were praying, "Please, Samantha?"
She left out a puff of air, "What if I have better things to do than watch the Gryffindor Quidditch trials?"
He stuck out his bottom lip and looked pleadingly at her as she sat in one of the squashy armchairs in the common room.
"No," she moaned, covering her face with her hands, "Don't do the face."
Suspecting that it was probably a bad idea but doing it anyway, Sam peeked through her fingers.
"Agh! Fine!" she gave in.
"Yes!" he jumped up, grinning ecstatically.
Sirius then grabbed the textbook she had been reading, tossed it onto the couch and grasped her hands, pulling her up.
"Come on! Let's go, Albus, Rose and Scorpius are at the pitch already."
As he dragged her out into the corridor, he looked sidelong at her.
"How come you weren't going to support me and Albus?"
"I don't know," she replied, "I had stuff to do?"
"Stuff?" he asked, raising an eyebrow, "Stuff that is more important than supporting your friends and watching me get on the team?"
Sam raised an eyebrow right back at him, "Who says you'll get on the team?"
He gasped and then looking disapprovingly at her, "I find your lack of faith disturbing…"
She sighed, "To be honest, I didn't want to watch the trails because I didn't want to see you and Al get hurt, you know, if there was an accident or something."
Sirius ruffled her blonde hair, "I can't decide if I should be insulted or touched by that."
"Insulted for sure," she grumbled, trying to restore her hair to order.
He rolled his eyes, "Nice."
Sam watched her feet then and noticed that one of her shoelaces was untied.
It took her until they reached the fourth floor to gather up the energy to actually stop and retie it.
Just as she was about to straighten up, she looked back, in time to see someone peeking around the corner at her and Sirius.
Startled, Sam lost her balance and fell forward.
Gallantly not laughing, Sirius hauled her up onto her feet.
She caught his eye and tried to use her facial features to subtly tell him that the creepy Slytherin was behind them.
Sirius' forehead crinkled as he tried to work out what she was doing pulling weird faces at him for.
She gave up then and turned abruptly around to face the corner.
And Sirius then saw the 'creepy creeper' as Sam liked to call him.
"Hey!" Sirius called, annoyed, "What are you doing?"
The Slytherin's eyes went wide and his cheeks went pink.
He tried and failed to reply.
"Go away," instructed Sirius, making a shooing gesture.
Upon seeing the awkward boy's expression of dejection, Sam felt immediately horrible.
"Sirius," she scolded quietly, "Don't be so mean."
She then decided that she should at least talk to Michael…but he was already gone.
"Let's go," Sirius pushed Sam along the corridor, "We don't want to be late for the trials."
Sam felt she needed to reprimand him again, "Sirius, that was rather mean of you."
He laughed derisively, "You said it yourself, the guy is a weirdo creeper."
"Well…yes, I did-"
"See? If I'm mean, then so are you."
"But," she protested, "Even so, underneath all that creepiness is probably a very nice guy-"
"Way, way underneath."
"-so we should be nicer to him."
Sirius thought about it while they descended the marble staircase.
"No," he stated firmly once they reached the Entrance Hall.
Sam missed her step and would have fallen over if it hadn't been for the fact that Sirius, for some reason, was still holding onto her.
"No?" she questioned, "What do you mean 'no'?"
He rolled his grey eyes, "I mean no, as in 'no we should not be nicer to him'."
"But…but," she stammered, "But that's so mean! Just because he's a little bit creepy-"
"A huge bit creepy."
"-doesn't mean he doesn't deserve a bit of kindness."
Sirius merely gave her a look that said he disagreed.
She decided to ignore him and did so for the entire walk to the Quidditch pitch.
"Samantha," whined Sirius, "Stop ignoring me!"
Studiously avoiding looking at him, Sam marched towards the spectators stand.
"Alright!" Sirius exclaimed, frustrated.
Sam glanced curiously over at the grey eyed boy.
"Okay," he said defeated, "Samantha, you were right, and I was…less right."
She rolled her eyes, told him that his apology was ridiculous but that he was forgiven anyway and then she hunted around for Rose and Scorpius so she could sit with them.
Sam felt nervousness bubble around in her stomach as the trials got started and the unsettling feeling only grew stronger.
Man, I am not going to survive watching a game…this is awful.
She shoved her face into the nearest shoulder and cried, "They're too young to die!"
As it turned out, it was Scorpius with whom she was seeking comfort.
He awkwardly patted her on the back and mumbled nonsense about how nothing bad was going to happen.
"Letting your silly friend steal your boyfriend, eh, Rosie?" sneered a voice from behind.
Sam sat up and turned around to face Roxanne.
The dark haired girl was awaiting her turn on the pitch, as she desired the position of Chaser on the Gryffindor team.
Lucy, who was sitting beside the snarky girl, trying to make herself as small as possible, gave a tiny wave to Sam.
"He's not my boyfriend," Rose said coldly, not even turning to face her cousin.
"Yes," hummed Roxanne, "I suppose that does makes sense, I mean, what was I thinking? Like you could ever get a boyfriend, it's utterly absurd."
Sam growled, feeling rage heat her insides as she glared at the girl.
"You're utterly absurd," she retorted on Rose's behalf.
Roxanne rolled her blue eyes, "I'm not talking to you, Blondie. Rose, can't you even fight your own battles?"
With a mighty yell, Sam launched herself at Rose's cousin.
"No-one is mean to my friend except me!" she yelled as they fell backwards.
"Sam!" Rose and Scorpius exclaimed, jumping up to free the girl from the tangle of flailing limbs.
Grabbing one of her arms each, the two pulled her back from Roxanne.
"Merlin!" Scorpius said, amazed, "Calm down, Sam, now's not the time to get angry."
"I'm always angry!" she bared her teeth at the girl still on the ground.
Roxanne looked contemptuously at Sam as she pushed herself onto her feet and made a show of brushing herself off.
Lucy, looking extremely uncomfortable, seemed to be unable to decide what she should be doing.
It was lucky that it was the very next moment that the Captain of the team then called out for all of the potential Chasers to come over.
Sam snapped her teeth together as she watched Roxanne and Lucy leave.
Rose's face suddenly blocked her line of sight.
"Take a deep breath, Sammy," she slowly.
Then the strangest thing happened…Rose started to smile.
The smile became a grin and then a giggle escaped.
It didn't take long before the red haired girl was doubled over and gasping for air.
"Did you…see her…face?" she wheezed between fits.
Sam looked over at a very confused Scorpius, "I think her mind's snapped."
He nodded in agreement.
"Merlin! What happened here?"
Scorpius and Sam spun around and watched as Sirius climbed over the barricade.
"Did she finally snap?" he asked, frowning in concern.
By that time, Rose had fallen to the floor and had tears streaking down her laughing face.
A week later had Sirius dancing around the common room.
"I'm on the Quidditch team nah nah nah nah nah nah," he sang, waving his arms about and spinning on the spot.
He became unbalanced then, more than usual anyway, and fell onto the couch next to Sam, who was becoming more and more convinced that he was crazy and that she should stop hanging out with him.
"Didn't I tell you I would get on the team?" he asked, smugly stretching his legs out and resting them on the small table in front of them.
"Yeah, yeah," she muttered dismissively, trying to focus on her Charms homework.
He leaned over her to get a look at the questionnaire she was filling out.
"The answer's 'B'," he pointed out, whispering in her ear.
She shivered and pushed him away, "Down boy!" she commanded jokingly.
He shrugged but then he noticed she was going to start ignoring him soon, it had become somewhat of a habit of hers.
Oh, no you don't, he thought, deciding then to do what he could to distract her from her work and keep all of her focus on him.
He first glanced around the room, making sure he hadn't forgotten that Rose was in the room, like last time.
He mentally shuddered at the memory of that telling off. Sam's work was very important to Rose.
Coast is clear. Hmm…
He was still trying to decide what his best course of action would be when Sam sighed loudly and leaned back into the cushions.
Sirius turned and fidgeted about, he then lay down so his head rested on her lap.
"Um," she said, looking down at him, "Sirius? What are you doing?"
He didn't get to answer because it was that moment that Rose and Albus walked in.
"Well," drawled Albus, "Isn't this cosy?"
Sirius merely grinned at his friend while Sam stared confusedly at Rose who was trying and failing to hide her smirk.
The girl then perched on the arm of the couch and grabbed Sam's homework to check it over while Albus collapsed into an armchair and asked the blonde,
"How are you finding school so far, Sammy?"
She shrugged, "It's pretty good I suppose, though I could do without all this homework and this lump," she pointed to Sirius.
"Aw, you don't mean that, Samantha," Sirius chided.
"You know what I am looking forward to though?" she asked the group, "Hogsmeade."
"Ah," they all said.
"I wish I could skip the next few weeks and just go to the trip…" she said wistfully.
A few weeks later Sam was practically bursting with excitement as she waited around in the Entrance Hall with Sirius, Rose and Albus.
I'm finally going to go to Hogsmeade!
"I don't know why we have to wait for Scorpius," Rose muttered, her expression and tone conveying her annoyance.
"He's my friend, remember?" Albus rolled his eyes at his cousin.
"I thought you liked Scorpius, Rose," Sam commented as innocently as she could.
Rose's cheeks turned a tell-tale pink, "I-I most certainly do not!"
Sam coughed to cover her laughter, "Sorry, my mistake."
The red head huffed and that was when Scorpius finally arrived.
"There you are!" Rose sighed, relieved as the blonde boy joined them.
He raised an eyebrow at her, "Desperate to be in my company, Weasley?"
Before Rose could get argumentative, Sam cut in, "We can go now, right?"
"Yes!" Albus exclaimed, pushing Rose and Scorpius over to the large doors, "Let's go!"
It was rather chilly outside, so Sam stuck to Sirius and then grabbed Albus as well.
Rose was stomping up ahead, clearly still aggravated.
Scorpius on the other hand was strolling casually down the path and Sam could have sworn the boy was smiling.
"Those two really are something, aren't they?" Sirius chuckled.
Sam leaned her head against Albus and exhaled.
"They are adorable, aren't they? They make such a cute couple."
"What?" Albus asked in a deadly tone.
"Oh, nothing," replied Sam breezily, "I just think they would be the best."
"So…they aren't together?" questioned Albus.
"No, they are not together," Sam responded in a disappointed tone.
"Do they…like each other?" Albus sounded genuinely confused and slightly disgusted.
"Nah, mate," answered Sirius sarcastically.
"Oh, good," the boy sighed, oblivious.
"Can't you see it?" enquired Sam of Albus, "They so like each other and are fighting their attraction."
She glanced up at the emerald eyed boy in time to see his expression of distaste.
"Nope," he was emphatic, "I don't see it at all."
"You're blind then," Sam joked, nudging him.
He's not the only one…Sirius thought as they strolled into the picturesque village of Hogsmeade.
"Wow," breathed the girl, staring wide eyed at, well, everything.
She then made them go into every shop, spending a particularly long time in Honeydukes.
Rose, Scorpius and Albus had long since abandoned her.
Sirius had stuck with her however which was very convenient for the plan that snuck up upon her as she was examining the Sugar Quills.
"Sirius!" she smacked his arm.
"I didn't do it!" he cried, rubbing his arm.
"I've had a brilliant idea!" she continued, very enthused.
He eyed her warily, "What is it?"
She beamed, "We're going to be cupid."
He scrunched his face up in a 'why does the universe hates me?' sort of way, "Are we?"
"Yes!" she grinned, not noticing his reluctance, "We're going to get Rose and Scorpius together!"
AN: So, how'd you like that? There was a bit more of Sirius' sort of pov, did you like? Best bit?
