It's been a while. Sorry about that. School started, and along with that, clubs started, so I've been a bit busy. On top of all that, some personal problems arose, so I'm going to have to end this challenge here. Maybe I'll update again with new ficlets in the future, but for now, here's the concluding snippet. Hope you enjoy, and thank you to everyone who has reviewed my little story! :)
Castiel sat bolt upright in bed, gasping heavily. He had just been jolted from another dream that seemed to be following the same pattern as all the others.
"Cas?" a muffled grunt came from the other side of the bed as Dean Winchester rolled over to look at the angel. "You okay, buddy?"
The dark-haired man ran a hand through his hair and took a deep breath. "Yes, I am fine. I just had a particularly eventful dream." He laid back down and snuggled closer to the hunter next to him.
"D'you want to tell me about it?" Dean asked.
"There've been nine of them, as far as I can recall," Castiel started. "All of the dreams have featured the same two people: us. The first few are a bit difficult to remember, but they range from us being students at Hogwarts to us meeting in a coffee shop. And we always end up together, no matter what."
Dean raised an eyebrow. "You think someone's trying to tell us something?" he suggested.
"Like what?"
"Maybe we're supposed to be together," the hunter replied. He kissed the tip of Castiel's nose gently, gazing into his deep blue eyes. He could see confusion flicker through the sapphire orbs, and he chuckled quietly.
"But are we not already together in this room?" the angel questioned.
Dean smiled. Sometimes Castiel could understand what he was saying, but once in a blue moon, he had trouble figuring out what Dean was talking about. "Well, yeah, but I meant together together. As in like a couple."
"Oh. But doesn't the term 'couple' already apply to us?"
"Yeah," Dean said. "I guess it does."
And with that, Castiel snuggled closer to his hunter and fell asleep on his chest.
"I love you," Dean whispered into the darkness of their bedroom. The three words carried throughout the entire bunker, and the empty hallways echoed their cadence. For the first time in a long time, Dean Winchester was at peace.
Remember that time I said none of these chapters were in any way related? Yeah, I lied. Tootles! :D
