UE Chapter 10: A Distraction

His grip made his nails dig into his skin and draw out blood. His knuckles a starchy white. "You...had her,...and you let her escape?!"

He was seething. His cheeks flushing a darker shade with every second. He may have been sitting down but he was still a menacing form.

Corey put his hands up and replied back in his cocky voice. "Hey she's my chunk of meat. I'll do what I want. Besides,...if you would've let me taken all my pokemon, I would have her bouncing right now with me."

"I DON'T FUCKING CARE ABOUT YOUR DESIRE FOR THE GIRL! We need her either as two things."

He stood from his chair and walked up to Corey's face. He towered over him, his intimidating height shrinking Corey and his ego.

"One..."

He flipped a finger up.

"...she is to be dead. Her corpse rotting, drawing the flies to her stench. Blood completely drained from her body. No essence remaining."

He stuck another digit up.

"Two..."

He grabbed hold of Corey's leather jacket with that one hand and held him above the ground, dangling.

"She is in our grasp...or as you prefer it, yours."

He then tossed him into the door causing it to collapse with Corey.

Adjusting his collar and tie he snickered a final command.

"Fix that door..."

...

Demyx had relished in her two month break. A man she had met named David came over to her and Rachel's home and announced that Demyx could take a vacation. But she knew better. After her report they asked Fergie for hers. Paul had tied his hair up now. Everyone had given her 'that look' of sympathy.

When Rachel was relayed with the reports as part of her job she ran from her office to meet Demyx at her room with a worried expression. Demyx had believed something happened but she didn't know that something was her.

She didn't reveal anything to Rachel that first day together. No details. But now that she KNEW them she cried. Shed a tear for her. The woman she thought to be steel and concrete let slide one drip of moisture from her orbits.

Demyx had been embarrassed for a long time after that. She felt that everyone knew what had happened to her. Unlike back at the church where she wanted people to know, at her new home she didn't want anyone to know. Now everyone did.

Rachel and her hung out for many days after that. Demyx even called her mum the one day. Which brought a warm smile across her face. Demyx could get used to that smile but it would always be replaced by her indifferent look.

Demyx right now was walking along with Scorch beside her. They had held many conversations together lately helping her improve her speech towards pokemon. Scorch was getting stronger day by day. Demyx believed he would evolve any moment but it would never seem to come. It didn't bother her much though since it took him a long time to evolve into a Combuskin.

Her and Scorch visited that tree they met that Tristian/Gary guy. Never saw him again after that. When she asked about him to Rachel she repeated he is extremely busy considering his partner is Giratina. He had a whole other dimension to watch.

But no matter, that tree became their place of privacy since no one usually seemed to be around.

"Sigh..."

'What is it Demyx?'

"Oh nothing,...just started to feel restless lately. Haven't looked at my other assignments."

'Well if it helps I believe you have two not started and the Rocket search one.'

Demyx nodded and tried closing her eyes. They sat beside the tree. Keeping the silence a treasure. They sometimes would sit for hours. 'Hey Demyx?'

"Hm?"

'Just wanted to say how happy I am yet how sad I am for you.'

Demyx opened her eyes at this.

"What do you mean? I could've dealt without that last part."

Scorch huffed at her and chirped.

'You have slipped from Corey's hold at last. You don't fear him anymore.'

Demyx smiled at the realization from him.

'But you aren't free of his influence.'

"Ok what the hell does that imply?"

'You aren't moving on. I've seen many humans take comfort in another human.'

"Well that's why I have you guys."

'Its not the same. After I saved you from him years ago you were scarred. You didn't let anyone in but me. Then once you regained part of your old self you still didn't let many people in. Even guys who I thought were nice you turned away.'

"Men only want one thing from women. I Know this."

'But you don't.'

Demyx turned towards him with angry eyes. "What?"

'You don't Demyx. Love doesn't come from just a family. Of all the people and pokemon I've seen you are the one that requires love from a counterpart the most.'

Looking at Demyx for several seconds to see if it sunk in he watched as she looked away in defeat. He then slipped his talon into her pack and returned himself.

Demyx sat there at the tree for many more minutes afterwards. She thought about what Scorch said, and denied it. She didn't need a counterpart. Besides Scorch was only half right. She noticed the guys trying to help her and get to know her, but after a while THEY shied away from her. Sometimes with looks of fear. Just like the many couples that never looked at her.

It was early in the morning. The moon still lingered in the atmosphere with the light blue tinted sky. Demyx was preparing for a long trip. She packed enough to get her through two regions. She was going to hit two birds with one stone. She planned on heading out to Sinnoh then back to her old home Hoen.

Fergie and her finally strapped on the last bag.

"Geez you aren't leaving us are you?" Fergie teased. She wasn't going on this mission. Just back to pick up and drop off duty.

"I'll be back I promise."

Demyx slipped on a white jacket with blue stripes on the shoulders over her tight pitch black tee. Her sweat pants kept her legs warm from the wind but left her color scheme simple.

Fergie straddled Doyle and helped Demyx up. Once on the Flygon Demyx turned back to her home. Rachel and Anette were still asleep. Demyx had left two notes for them saying about how she had to have a head start out on her missions.

Doyle was riled up as usual and began charging down the lane for takeoff. When he leapt off the dock Demyx turned around to take a last glance at her home. Though something surprised her. In the window was Rachel holding Anette who was waving goodbye. Demyx waved back which received a fluid sway of Rachel's hand.

The air was frigid. Snow surrounded the trio in the sky. It was beginning to layer on top of their stuff and poor Doyle. Their breathe could be seen with each outtake. The wind barely blew but the cold left Demyx numb.

They had been flying for what seemed like forever. Demyx couldn't even see ahead of them. She held onto Fergie with her left arm and her right held her hood up over her head, shielding her from the snow and wind, which did little good. The snow just melted into her hood making it wet.

Demyx leaned forward on Fergie. "Where are we?!"

She had to raise her voice because the wind was carrying it away. Fergie leaned back a bit.

"We are almost there! We are passing over Veilstone City!" she hollered.

Demyx pouted at that. She acted like she knew where that was. But either way Demyx could not tell where they were. The snow was becoming more and more thick.

Doyle was shaking his head of the snow and panting. Fergie reassured him we were almost there.

The ride had become increasingly difficult to be in. Demyx was shivering and clattering her teeth for the friction. Fergie would even quiver every once in a while. Neither of their breathes were seen now.

Demyx clenched herself and began rubbing her arms when Doyle started whining. "It's...it's ok boy...w-w-we are almost there..."

But Doyle began spazzing. He flew in erratic patterns in the sky. Demyx had to grab Fergie's shoulders to keep balance. Fergie yanked on his reins as hard as she could, once she did though a blur quizzed by them just missing.

Demyx saw it turn up and stop. There in the sky was Corey on top of a Honchkrow.

"Corey!"

"Told you, you wouldn't escape me."

He then motioned behind them. Demyx and Fergie whirled around to see a two other members on top of a Staraptor and a Gliscor flying towards them.

Fergie commanded Doyle to drop down hard. The Flygon proceeded to sink from the sky with the Equinox members following. Then Fergie yanked on the reins and Doyle performed a J shooting straight back up to where he was dispersing Equinox.

Corey and the other members also shot up but much later than anticipated. He sent the other two members to fly around trying to cut them off.

Doyle though was a dragon. His wings were much stronger and faster.

"Honchkrow! Use Ominous Wind!" the pokemon flapped it feathery wings at wicked speeds sending dark aura spectacles at Doyle.

Demyx felt the wind and clenched tighter to Fergie. The mixture of that attack fusing with the snow was causing Doyle to take damage and blurred vision. Fergie had on goggles though and helped Doyle by directing him.

"Gliscor use Crunch!"

Fergie looked below to see a female Equinox shooting up at them. Fergie had thrusted Doyle to the side so fast that Demyx about fell off. The Gliscor missed but the Equinox was smiling. Demyx noted that and began to look around. As soon as she turned to the right her Fergie and Doyle were pounded by the Staraptor's Close Combat.

Demyx and Fergie were knocked off of Doyle descending rapidly.

"DOYLE!"

Doyle regained his composure and shot like a bullet after Fergie. He scooped her up and began to head for Demyx. Fergie stretched out her arm to reach Demyx. Demyx reached with all her might but was denied the acceptance.

"FERGIE! WATCH OU-!"

Fergie and Doyle were knocked back by Honchkrow's Shadow Ball exploding on Doyle's left side.

The Staraptor then released Whirlwind onto them all.

Doyle and Fergie were tossed within the barrage of wind.

Demyx was caught inside as well. Her body twisted and flipped in the air as she kept falling.

She finally opened her eyes to see a patch of clouds closing in. Turning around she witnessed Fergie and Doyle being brutally attacked by the wind tunnel created with Corey flying passed them. To her.

When he closed the gap between them both Demyx and Corey on his Honchkrow fell into the clouds. Now not even Demyx could see. She tried turning her body around all over to find him. But something else was here. She heard fighting. Clashing of bodies and alike.

Demyx emerged through the clouds and gasped at what was before her.

A mountainside was getting larger as she realized how close she was to the ground.

She had thoughts of her body getting crushed. At what impact would feel like. All those thoughts made her scared and lightheaded. Her heart rate quickened to an ungodly rate.

Her head drooped as she let unconsciousness engulf her being. But before she lost all feeling and sight, Demyx could feel the faintest touch around her waist.
