Ok, this is going to be BY FAR the craziest, insane chapter in history, all I would need to say is hang onto something and strap yourselves in, cause this roller coaster ride has gotten MORE intense by the minute!
warning: violence, forced marriage, language
Chapter 10: If you want to get out alive, *whoa-oh* run for your life…
Alice POV:
Kairi and I were towards the cafeteria doors when I saw Cassimere leaning back against the wall. I went up to her, very grateful for getting us all out of there. "Thank you, Evie, I owe you and everyone else in my debt." I said as Kairi had her head on my chest. "No problem, I don't think you know this, but—" she was cut off by someone calling for her. "We'll talk later." She said before running up to one of the higher ranking agents. I was confused as to what she was trying to say, but shrugged it off as I went inside, wanting to find my family within the hundreds of people in there having lunch, I saw my mom waving us all over from somewhere within the middle of the room, so I went up to them, still carrying Kairi as I sat down with one leg under the table and the other in the middle of the aisle. "Hey, mom." I said as she leaned over and hugged me tightly, being careful of Kairi. "Oh, thank god you're alright, and in one piece." She said with her voice breaking as I pat her upper back. She broke away and I leaned back, I saw my dad sitting there, with his head on his arms, I think he was crying some, I truly didn't mean to bring this pain upon him, but circumstances were very crazy. He looked up and saw me, it was as if he thought I was a hallucination. "Hi dad." I said still holding Kairi. "Hey, sweetheart. I can't believe it, you're still alive." He said before he was crying again. Harvey hugged my dad, also happy that I was still in one piece and not dead. "Did he hurt you?" Harvey asked. "No, though something was a bit weird about his behavior when he and the rest of them took us all back." I said bouncing Kairi gently. "Define weird, Alice." Mom said curiously. "Well, it was as if he was trying to woo me somehow, like we did a few pranks amongst the others, then he bought me all those things that I somehow remember watching mom use, he threatened me a few times but he was all talk and no action." I said explaining some of what had been going on back at that house. "What else?" Harvey asked. "There were these….weird dreams, like I'm 'doing it' with my kidnapper, then I have one where my arm is somehow broken during a mission and I'm breastfeeding a baby girl, who looked like him, and he was saying some nothings to me….am I getting Stockholm syndrome?!" I asked myself. "It's possible, sweetheart, or it could be the stress from what you're going through at this moment." Dad said wiping his eyes with a napkin. "Probably, hopefully this time around he'll be in that prison cell and not kidnapping me again." I said while Kairi looked up at me. I looked down at her, and she looked at me tiredly, probably wanting to sleep after yesterday. "Please don't leave again." She begged gripping onto my shirt for dear life. "I won't." I said hugging her tightly to me.
After some time, we landed somewhere in the ocean and a quinjet landed so we could be taken to a different SHIELD base, where hopefully those mermen would be kept in a prison deep inside SHIELD, while Kairi went with Harvey and my parents back home, as I still needed to see what needed to be done first before I would do anything. "I wondered what Evie wanted to talk to me about, could it have something to do with those mermen or even SHIELD?" I asked myself muddling through what she wanted to talk to me about. We landed on the base near Washington, DC and we ended up going inside the base, wondering about our next batch of orders were, I hoped there weren't too many orders to go through as I still wanted to take Kairi over to Chuck E. Cheeses as I had been planning to when I first had gotten back at the PEGASUS base from the kidnapping. I had been outside Fury's office when I heard some talking and much to my surprise, Natasha and the others were with me as I listened in to the conversation. "Do you realize what you have done, Director?" one of the councilmen asked. "I wasn't about to let those things think they got away with it, one of them put Agent Hill in a coma, a goddamn coma!" Fury yelled in frustration. "What the hell's going on?" Jane asked as my eyebrows were raised high. We kept listening to their conversations as they went back and forth. "You are keeping creatures from their mates, and that is dangerous, do you even know the concepts of mermen?" the councilwoman asked. "There are some bits and pieces we don't know about mermen, but they kidnapped our agents and we don't take too kindly to that! What if it were your own daughter or niece or even granddaughter who had been kidnapped by those mermen?" Fury asked pleading with them. "We understand why you had to do this perfectly, but you were under specific orders to not find them because they were too dangerous without them as we had discovered." Another councilman said much to our complete dismay as we were processing what they were saying: Fury had broken an order by the council in order to bring us back, it was almost kind and caring on his part, but the council had not been very happy about it as I had remembered about the whole 'inner beast coming out to reclaim its mate should she be far' thing. "If those mermen somehow find a way out of the prison, they could destroy just about everyone at SHIELD, Director." Another one of the councilmen said in a grave warning, somehow I knew this was going to be very bad, I didn't know exactly when it would happen.
Loki POV:
So, this was what we were reduced to: sitting in a prison cell, clad in prison clothing, far away from our mates, we would get out of this place, take our mates back and have everything back the way it was supposed to have been: earning the trust of our mates before we would progress to wooing and eventually making love with them, now it wouldn't be very easy considering that they were still afraid of all of us, who could blame them really? I thought of a way to have us out of this place, but it wouldn't be easy at all: I would sing to the guard to let us out of this prison. As I started to sing, I put my heart in it, telling the man how I was wrongfully denied my own wife, though we're not even close to that stage yet, and even how I long to feel her in my arms again. The guard was seduced in seconds! He went up to the prison and scanned the prison door lock with his card and just like that, the door opened, allowing us outside our prison so we could find our mates and take them back, this time reminding them of the order they were given by their council and to stay as far away from us as possible. Just as we were going through the corridors, determined to find out where they were, there were a few guards who tried to stop us, but we had put them to sleep along with the other prisoners getting towards the door and Thor had kicked it open, with the door flying off the hinges exploding off and smashing into a wall before falling to the ground, creating spider web cracks in the wall where the impact was before finding out where they were, I had a feeling as to exactly where they were.
Jane POV:
As we were listening in, shocked beyond all recognition, we contemplated going inside the room and confronting the council about the order they gave Fury to not find us. "I can't believe that, they were ordered not to find us?" Darcy asked in shock. "Apparently so, just goes to show, Fury cares about us, about the agents and scientists, and the world." Natasha said still looking through the window. There was suddenly some beeping and alarms going off from one of the rooms. "Security breach in the detention cells, those bastard mermen escaped and I have a feeling that they're gunning for Agents Romanov and Donovan along with the rest of them!" one of the agents yelled out as we were now this time for real, dead meat for the mermen, if we had some sort of care for the world and SHIELD, we'd have to go with them, so no one would get hurt, but I don't want to think about that. "W-What are we going to do?" Betty asked scared out of her wits. As I was about to suggest something, Fury had opened the door, seeing us and he knew we were there the whole time as he was speaking to them. "So, you all know?" he asked in an almost hollow voice. "You disobeyed an order from the council?" Natasha asked still surprised by the events that occurred while we were outside the door. "Yes, a good agent doesn't leave one of their own behind." He said before going towards the detention area with the mermen, I hoped we weren't too late as Nat and Alice looked at each other and nodded in a silent understanding before heading towards a hallway. "Where are you two going?" I yelled out at them. "To suit up, you guys get to the computer room!" Alice ordered from a far distance. "We can't just sit there and watch!" Darcy yelled annoyed before pouting. "They're experienced agents, Darcy. The least we can try to do is help them out with blind spots and finding out where those psychos are so they'll be prepared." Pepper said before we got to the video monitoring area, dodging a few running agents, running inside and locked the door before steel walls came down in front of the glass walls, sealing all of us inside with no way out. Thank god the lights were still on as we were looking at the monitors, examining the camera angles as many agents were rushing to contain the mermen who were running amok in the base, trying to find us and bring us back to the house, I needed to make sure they weren't at the door at the same time while trying to keep track of Natasha and Alice.
As we kept examining the camera footage through the monitors with headphones that had microphones on them, keeping in mind of the hallway towards where we were, I was worrying for everyone's safety, hoping they would contain the mermen before they would manage to get out of the facility and try to capture us again. "Come on, where are you guys?" Betty asked looking at the other camera angles for not only Alice and Natasha, but the mermen as well. "Anyone see them yet?" I asked looking at the monitors for the cafeteria, armory, the basement, and the lobby, trying to find out where Alice and Natasha were. "I'm not seeing them in the bunk hallways!" Betty yelled out. "Nothing with the labs on my end!" Pepper yelled. "They're not in the cafeteria either, come on, where are you guys?" I asked keeping a close eye on the footage. I kept scouring the camera view, going to different angles to find them. "Oh god, I FOUND THEM!" Pepper screamed out seeing two men, a guy with a goatee and another with sandy blonde hair, scouring the base for us. "Where are they?!" Darcy asked with fright very evident in her voice as I got to her. "They're….near where we are!" Betty yelled getting scared. "Oh god, I need to warn them!" I got to the computer with my heart nearly beating out of my chest in horror. "Alice, Natasha, two of them are getting near where we are, try to divert them from us!" I relayed to them as I was searching for them. "Got it!" Nat yelled as I could see her outside the armory running towards the location. I continued looking through the monitor and I had noticed a tall man with black hair wandering around the place, and I kept looking and realized that he was headed for the armory, where Alice more than likely was. "Alice, get out of the Armory, there's a guy headed for your location!" I called out hoping she would respond. "Who?" she asked confusedly. "A tall guy with black hair—" I was cut off by banging on the steel wall that was sealing all of us in. "That's Loki!" she yelled and I noticed that she had gotten out of there, suited up and ran towards where Nat more than likely had been.
Natasha POV:
It didn't take me long to reach where the monitoring room was and I saw Clint and another man kicking rather desperately, with their animals unleashed and trying to get us back to the house. He stopped for a moment as he looked at me, obviously surprised that I was there ready to fight him, it wasn't like any sparring we had done back at the house. He ran towards me, but I was ready for him as I threw punches and kicks at him while he kept maneuvering around them, trying to deliver me some blows. The other one kept banging at the steel, trying to get inside the computer room, where the rest of us were. "Come on Alice, I need some help here!" I yelled to pretty much no one but remembered that I had my comm. on, so Alice was more than likely going to hear me call out to her. "Hang on Nat, I'm on my—" she was cut off by someone saying "There you are, thought I would be kept there forever?" before she yelled out. I punched Clint in the nose before I could get to her location. "After all of this, we'll be back home, where you belong." The merman had said before Alice was yelling again. I had gotten to where she was and the man with the raven black hair was stalking Alice like she was prey. "Hang on, I'm—" I was restrained by a big, muscular blonde as I watched one of my closest friends scoot back from him, obviously sporting what looked like either a broken leg or sprained ankle, until I looked closer and had seen that something was impaled into her leg. "Why?! Why do you keep doing this?!" Alice asked practically screaming it at him. "Why? My dear mate, I've been keeping you safe from harm those past few days, but you keep trying to get away from me." He said almost as if he's saddened, but when Alice tried to stand up, she cried out and fell back down on the floor. "Damn it, my leg!" she screamed almost to the brink of tears. "Nat, what's going on!?" Betty demanded from the monitoring room. "It's Alice, her leg's got something in it and one of the mermen is trying to corner her." I said fighting against the guy's hold. She had taken out whatever it was from her leg, which was a large piece of glass, gritting her teeth through the pain as it was out of her and she threw it to the side, putting her hand on it to try and stop the bleeding. I noticed the man's anger subside a little when he noticed her hand on her wound. He gasped before saying anything, although she tried to scoot further away from him, it was hard with one good leg. "Oh no, you're injured." He said almost like a mom trying to tend to her child's wound, he tried to approach her carefully, but she wasn't having it. "Get away from me, STAY AWAY!" she screamed trying in vain to scoot away from him, but he was within inches of her face, willing to do something about her injury. He knelt to her level, gently lifting her bad leg over his shoulder as she gritted her teeth from the pain again, I was nervous as to what was going to happen with her as he removed her hand from where her injury was. It looked really bad from my perspective as he was examining her wound, obviously in thought. "Alice, get out of there!" Jane yelled over the banging from outside the monitoring room. He tore half of the pant leg off in order to see it further, stroking the good part of her leg, as if to somehow soothe her, she knew that it would somehow be pointless trying to get away not only because of her leg, he was stronger than she was. He suddenly put his mouth on her leg, specifically where she had been impaled, and she was thrashing big time, but he put a hand on her stomach and held her down as he continued doing this.
"Get away from her, what are you doing!?" I kept thrashing in the big blonde guy's arms, until I bit his wrist hard enough for him to let go of me before I threw him towards a wall, he smashed into a metal object, disorienting him for a moment before I got towards where the raven haired man was holding her down, until I was clotheslined by a honey blonde haired guy who was more slender than the big blonde and flipped onto my back. "Get off, GET OFF, GET OFF!" Alice screamed on the verge of tears as I lifted my head and saw that he kept his mouth on her wound while she kept thrashing, trying to get away from him. He lifted his mouth from where he was and glared at her, as if that would stop her from getting away, but when she tried again, the hand that was on her stomach had pressed further, and I saw that there were claws where his fingernails were so he pressed his fingertips on her skin lightly as if in warning. "Have some patience, Alice. I'm almost done with healing one part of your wound." He assured her before putting his mouth back on her leg. "Cassimere, I need help, please!" I yelled through my intercom, hoping someone would be responding. "We're in the middle of battling a merman at the moment, this is crazy!" Cassimere said while other agents were screaming in the background. "Oh god, no, they broke through the steel door, no, get away from us, GET—" it was cut off by static as those other mermen had gotten to them, we failed, we ultimately failed each other. "Damn it!" I yelled slamming my fist into the floor. "What happened?" Alice asked worriedly. "The other mermen got to the others…." I said grimly. Clint then suddenly appeared and carried me in his arms, I was disgusted by that as I was a SHIELD agent, but I remembered that he was many times stronger than I was, but I thrashed in his arms anyway, prompting him to bite me on my neck again, more than likely to remind me that I was his and to put me to sleep.
Third person POV:
The battle was over, with the mermen getting their mates back successfully….again, and injured SHIELD agents being treated in medical bays. They now were facing the council along with Hill and Fury, with their mates in tow, Loki had Alice over his shoulder, making sure she stayed with him this time around. "So, you lot must be the so called council overseeing SHIELD activities." Fandral sneered holding Darcy to him as she squirmed a bit. "We are. Do you realize what damages you have all caused to us?" the councilwoman asked trying to keep her composure. "We understand, but do you also understand our nature when it comes to our mates who try to escape or are taken from us? Surely someone should have obeyed your orders to the tee, otherwise we wouldn't be doing this again." Thor explained earning surprised reactions from the council. "How did you know about the orders we gave Director Fury and Agent Hill?" the Asian councilman demanded. "I happen to know a thing or two about computers and other technology, from what keystrokes to use to hacking security cameras." Tony chimed in with a smug, causing all of the SHIELD officials to bristle. "Either way, adhere to our demands or face even deadlier consequences, even you know my companions and I are stronger than even your most brutish of SHIELD agents, as we had demonstrated earlier." Loki began shifting Alice some more, earning a groan of pain and rage from her in the process. "We….we shall hear your demands." The other councilman said earning looks of dismay from everyone, including Director Fury. Loki smirked before telling his demands. "Firstly, you will not send your agents or anyone to take our mates back ever again, unless they are needed for any missions bestowed upon them," Jane squirmed in Thor's arms, but he squeezed her tighter, "we will also allow any loved ones of theirs to visit them from time to time, but if they are there to take them back here, we will come back for all of you and kill you all, even your prisoners," Alice was on the verge of tears along with Darcy, Betty, and even poor Natasha. "And finally," he looked at her and her eyes were bloodshot, her face was red from tears, she almost looked feral, "We want marriage certificates so they could legally be wed to us, not just with the bite mark on their neck." He finished before shifting Alice so she was facing his front, turned her head to the side and pulled back the fabric of her jumpsuit so her bite mark could be seen by everyone, the other mermen did the same, showing them the bite marks. Maria turned her head away, finally realizing that they most definitely won, they couldn't put anymore SHIELD agent's lives at risk for six women any longer. "Done." The councilman said virtually emotionless, or at least trying to mask it from everyone.
So after everything was finished and dealt with over at SHIELD with, they all signed the marriage certificates, much to the dismay of the surviving SHIELD agents, and Alice knew Kairi would be crushed upon finding out about this development, but the women somehow knew that if they refused to sign them, there would be a massacre worse than anything imaginable and more and more blood would be on their hands, never to be washed clean. Their new last names however…..it was as if it had been the most potent and corrosive of acid to swallow down their throats, for instance, goodbye Jane Elizabeth Foster, hello Jane Elizabeth Odinson, Darcy Lewis was now Darcy Boldison, Betty Ross was now Betty Banner, Virginia 'Pepper' Potts was now Virginia 'Pepper' Stark, Natasha Romanov was now Natasha Barton, and last, but sadly not least, Alice Valentine Donovan was now Alice Valentine….Laufeyson. They went back home after having some things taken care of in terms of storage, the women were emotionally numb, especially for poor Alice, as she kept staring at her marriage certificate as if it would change at any moment.
Loki POV:
The demands were met, and Alice, was now legally and somewhat deeply, my wife, but I wouldn't force her to make love with me until she was ready, and trusted me even, her slow but gradual trust in me was more than likely shattered by what I had her do, and how I went about it wasn't exactly something I wanted to have repeated ever again. I went to find her and she was still looking at that marriage certificate we filled out, as if it was a diagnosis paper for cancer. "Alice, I know you're not happy about filling out that certificate, but you need to understand, if I was kept there for any longer, I would have slaughtered everyone in that place trying to find you." I pleaded trying to reason with her, if my mother were around, she would be infuriated with me for my actions, but she could only watch over me. "What am I to you?" she asked angrily, surprising me in the process as she slowly put down the certificate and faced me, demanding an answer out of me, it almost reminded me of my face in battle back in my Viking days. "You're my wife," she straightened and tensed almost instantly at that, "you're the most precious gift to ever grace my eyes, more precious than jewels, coins, even more precious than stars, I feel like heaven had gifted me with someone to protect, love, and even cherish with every breath taken." I explained slowly approaching her. "If you think for a minute that I'll just use you like a child uses a toy, you are wrong, very wrong. I feel every bit of emotion radiating from you, including at this moment," she slowly was calming herself down, "And your niece, even though her….first impression of me wasn't exactly what I had pictured, she's beautiful and one day I want her to one day shout happily 'Uncle Loki!' while she would jump on me, and I would press kisses on her cheeks while holding her." I continued while wiping away any tears with tissues, seeing her shocked face when I mentioned that little girl Kairi. "You need to do some serious work if you want to fully earn my trust along with my family and even my niece." Alice said her voice breaking as she tried to hold back her tears. "I know, just….try to give me time, it's been too long since I had someone to love me, discounting people I had met over the years, far too long for my liking." I pleaded getting another tissue to wipe her eyes with, I hated seeing her like that, and what I had done, I didn't know how long it would take until she would forgive me, but I would work harder for her forgiveness. "For you, it's a blessing, for me it's karma coming back to beat the ever living shit out of me." She said with disdain, greatly surprising me. "Why?" I asked putting a hand on her cheek gently, it felt warm to the touch, almost hot. "Back in high school, a group of girls were chattering on about how their boyfriend was like this or that, they had heard me scoff and proceeded to tease me a bit about how I didn't have one, and if I could go back in time, I would cover my own mouth because I had said that the only way I would have a boyfriend is if he 'took me away somewhere', sarcastically at that. I swear that most of my dead relatives are laughing at me, simply because I have an extraordinarily bad habit of jinxing myself." She explained with a look so heartbreaking, my animal was screaming for me to comfort her, which I was doing my best with. I took her in my arms, held her tightly and started humming a tune to calm her down, occasionally pecking her head as she started relaxing. "And another thing: what if one day I came back home…..and found you dead, either shot, decapitated, throat slit open or stabbed because one of SHIELD's biggest enemies found out where I lived, and wanted to use you against me?" She asked, was that why she was trying to get away, why she didn't want to be with me, why she was even afraid of attaching herself to me….to protect me from her enemies or anyone who would do myself or anyone she cares about any harm just to cut her spirit to size and stomp on it like an insect? "I think you're forgetting something: I have abilities that greatly surpass any human, and I am nearly 1,050 years old, I'm stronger than they are and if they were to try and attack me or anyone else, they would be in for a surprise." I explained assuring her that I would protect myself, and any children we would have together while she would be on various missions.
Natasha POV:
"Бог черт возьми!" I screamed out as we all were facing what was necessary in order for the SHIELD personnel, though none of us wanted to go through with it, I know knew how some of those women back in the medieval times must have experienced when they learned they were to marry them for politics, land, money…I could only imagine what my friends were feeling, especially Jane and even Pepper, I already knew Alice was seriously pissed and even heartbroken, who would be able to place blame on any of us? Only those who would dare berate us for 'not being lucky to have such handsome men in our arms!' were the ones who were stupid and cowardly, I remembered us talking about our perfect types of men, I wanted loving yet brave, Alice wanted intelligent and fun, yet wanting to have a family, Jane wanted someone understanding and encouraging…..the phrase 'be careful what you wish for!' hadn't exactly been taken into consideration at the time, but it came back to haunt us in the form of creatures who took us away and proceeded to woo us whereas we tried to get away, now, even if we could should the opportunity be presented…we can't, we're their 'wives' now, and if we tried, their animals would come out again, trying to get us back…it was hard to swallow, grasp, wrap ones head around, you get the picture.
Clint had come in our room with a few tissue boxes, some bandages and even some rubbing alcohol, doctor's tapes and various other bandages, obviously wanting to clean my wounds sustained from our battle against him and those other creatures, and he had that look that he was about to scold me like I was a child, even though I was furious for in a way pulling the ultimate ultimatum on all of us: either we marry them, or the rest of the SHIELD agents, including prisoners, technicians, and even the scientists will die, leaving all of us to blame, damn them all. "Nat?" he asked as I looked from the corner of my eye and saw that he had a cloth, with rubbing alcohol on one end more than likely. "What?" I asked with almost a…hollow….bitter even tone of voice as I looked at him, and I thought the old days as a KGB agent were very haunting, indescribable, unimaginable, I wasn't exactly the marrying type of person, not Jane, not Darcy, not even Alice considered themselves to be the marriage types of women, but how do we explain what we had sacrificed to save thousands if not millions of other SHIELD officials without emotion…bitterness or anything of the sort. "I need to clean your wounds up, you took a pretty nasty beating over there, trying to get to your friend, you really care about her, don't you?" he asked wiping at a split and bleeding lip, causing me to wince at the pain. "Yes, I do. I have no siblings, so she's been like a sister to me somewhat. She's the only one who ever told me about…..how she discovered her condition, I wouldn't force even my worst enemy to go through something like that." I explained without thinking about it while he continued to tend to my more minor wounds. "Well, you're back here and not at that place again, Nat. I hope you also understand that my companions and I take you and your friends' well being seriously." He said trying to assure me that they did what they did because they all 'cared' about us, biggest bunch of bullshit I had ever heard in my life.
Alice POV:
I was very distraught and my mind was completely turned into mush by the events that occurred, I knew I would need to speak to my parents sooner or later about this predicament, but if Kairi were to find out about the rather….indignifying turn of events, she would be heartbroken and angry at Loki and possibly even me, finding out that by force and that ghastly threat, that she had an uncle, the same one she blew a raspberry at when I had gotten to the helicarrier. My leg was healed alright, but I needed to check on my parents and tell them what's going on, but how was I to tell them what happened? My thoughts had been interrupted as I heard the door open and he came in with a laptop, a power supply plug, a mouse and mouse pad, and put it on my lap, plugging in the power supply and sat next to me as I lifted the laptop cover and pressed the button to turn it on, and as I was waiting for it to finish loading itself up, Loki took my hand and put an engagement and wedding ring on my left ring finger and put another similar wedding band on his finger, and looked at him in suspicion about what he did. "Just a reminder that we are married, but the marriage won't be consummated until you feel comfortable around me." He said before kissing my forehead and sat on a chair near the window as I went to look for the Skype icon to talk with my parents about what was going on. I logged in to my account and pulled up my mom's account and it was showing our recent conversations and it went to the video call icon and it showed my mom's picture on there, I took a few deep breaths before clicking on the button and waited until she would answer the video call, she did and I didn't know what to say to her for a moment. "Hey Alice, how are you feeling?" she asked, freezing me silly, what was I to say to her. "Just….fine." I said almost robotically. "'Fine?' Alice I know you better than that, what's the matter?" she asked, and I knew the bomb was going to explode the second I would tell her something like that. "Well…..SHIELD was attacked again, by those mermen, and they caught us, though I think this time it's….rather permanent." I began, trying to sound indifferent, much to her shock as I saw that her face was starting to lose its color. "Honey, what do you mean by that?" she asked as I showed her the rings that he put on my finger, and any bit of color left on her face ran for it. "I'm so sorry mom, but…..I didn't have any other choice." I said with my eyes burning with tears that threatened to spill out. "What do you….what are you saying?" she said processing what I had now showed her as I put my hand down on the keyboard. "One of the demands was this: either we marry them, or every single person associated with SHIELD will die, scientists, technicians, prisoners, everyone will die." I said with a tear rolling down my face.
"So, you're saying that one of those things is now your spouse!?" she asked in shock, sadness and anger. "Yes mom, that's exactly what I'm saying. He's now Kairi's uncle, but we need to keep this from her and Harvey until the proper time." I said and she knew that this was to never be told to either of them. "Did he….take you against your will?" she asked wiping her eyes. "No, he's waiting until I'm 'comfortable' with him so to speak." I said assuring her that I was still in one piece. "That's good, I'm so sorry that it had to be like this, as much as I feel you did a brave thing….it was at yours and everyone else's expense." She said while I could only nod at her in acknowledgement. "I know, but I would rather not have everyone else's blood on my hands because of a decision that I had made that was a difference between life and death." I said to her with a certain hollowness to it. We talked for a bit more until we disconnected and I closed the laptop and put it to the side, feeling guilty that I needed to keep this from my niece, though Loki would think that she was also his niece, I knew she didn't like him the first millisecond she had seen him. "Not telling our niece about our marriage?" he asked, I had to bite my tongue really hard to suppress a protest, because though he technically would be her uncle through marriage, she didn't trust him whatsoever. "Right now is the worst time to tell her that, including my brother, who more than likely wants to kill you." I explained to him while I was wiping away my tears from telling my own mother the heart wrenching news regarding what myself and the others had to do to save SHIELD from a major massacre. "I figured as much, but I would give them time, so they would be able to handle the news better, I know what we had all of you do was….unpleasant on your part, but we couldn't risk having you get away again, it sounds arrogant and selfish, I know, but what if you and the rest of them were in our position?" he explained almost pleadingly. "I….I don't know…" I confessed, not exactly knowing what it would be like considering that I wasn't a sea creature whatsoever.
Jane POV:
The things that I felt, it was like an implosion or a star going supernova, the demands that they had adhered to, we felt like we were cattle, and now I was married to….a monster underneath human skin. "Jane." I recognized that as Thor….I didn't want to even classify him as my 'husband', they forced us into marrying them via an ultimatum, and they claim to 'want us to be happy with them!?' what had the world possibly sunk into!? I turned to him, he looked almost sad, probably at the look on my face as nothing more than anger, rage, emptiness, sadness. "What is it?" I asked as it came out more raspy than intended. "I know that you hate me, that all of you hate us for what we did, but we need you, I'm not lying to you in any way when I say that to you, if you die, a great piece of my soul would die with you, along with my humanity." Thor said to me, I know they must have had that conversation with my friends, including me, when I had said long ago that I didn't want to be alone in life, that wish was just something that was made up in a spur of the moment…..someone listened very carefully and waited a long time to grant a wish that I nowadays didn't want, but the phrase 'be careful what you wish for' hadn't come to mind when I was young. "What do you even want from me?" I asked nearing the edge of helplessness, I hated feeling helpless, and I know Natasha hated feeling helpless for sure. He took my hand into his and squeezed it gently before he would respond to my question. "I want to learn about you, from your favorite color to what you're afraid of, that's what I want from you, the rest will come in time, I assure you." He said before he lifted it up to his lips and kissed it softly, almost chastely. "I'm just….I'm afraid that…there will be a slip up and….." I tried to say without breaking down but Thor pulled me to his chest, giving me a hug as I felt a little tear coming out of my eyes. "I would rather be killed than harm you in any way, Jane." He assured me before holding me tighter against him. Keep telling yourself that, I'm going to watch for that slip up, because if you do that, married to you or no, I'm leaving you, you can count on that…..
The reason why this twist came into play was because I want to try and focus more on developing their relationships, though this big plot twist will definitely come as a shock for those who have read this chapter!
otherwise hope you enjoyed it!
