Lysander POV

"I. Am. DONE." King sighed and lied down in the middle of the motel hall, leaving me standing awkwardly and Amelia glaring daggers at him.

Amelia growled. "Get up."

"No."

"N-… Negro if you want to eat dinner you're getting up this moment."

King slowly tilted his head and looked up at Amelia bored. "You just call me a nigga?"

"And if I did?"

"I'll have you know my skin is just really tan. I'm tired."

"I figured when you went and sulked randomly in the corner. Now get up"

King pouted. "But-"

"Now."

King huffed heavily and slowly sat up, rubbing the back of his head lazily. King had been really weird the last couple of days. I'd wake up at odd events in the night and he'd be awake staring out the window, and his energy levels had gone down from constant to random bursts. It's not like I wasn't concerned or anything… I was just kind of nervous as to what his reaction to my questioning would be. Would he "kyaa" and glomp me as he would have when we had first met each other, tell me some dramatic sob story (I never really liked those manga moments…), or stare at me blankly as it seems he would now?

F-fuck, I'm thinking too much about him… I'm not gay, I'm not gay, I am definitely not gay, and most definitely not for King…! How dare I keep questioning myself about this!

King yawned and opened an eye at me. "Yes, Lizzy, dear?"

I blush and look away. "Nothing."

He raised an eyebrow, but then shrugged and stood up. "So, Amelia, are we leaving now? This motel is so… plain."

Amelia furrowed her eyebrows, obviously taking in his latest comments. Was he acting this way because he won't be at school with us, or has his attitude simply dramatically changed? "…Yes, we'll be leaving now."

I adjust the bag straps on my shoulders. "King, could you help me?"

"Of course." He comes over and takes a few bags. "Are we in Nevada, yet?"

"If we get a move on we will be." Amelia checks her new phone. She had gotten me one too… And King, but he kind of asked what in the world he could accomplish with flat, glass brick so she took it back. After a bit Amelia nods and mumbles to herself, then begins walking out of the motel, with King and I following behind her.

I thought Death City was already pretty bad from the constant wave of heat emitting from the sun. But it's even worse when the sun itself has shades on and is smirking at you.

"I think I'm seeing things." King put a hand up in front of his face as if to shield his face from the light.

"Actually, I've heard it's perfectly normal for the sun to look that way in this part of Death City." Amelia adjusts her glasses, a shine running across them.

"Freaking shinigamis. And sun. Looking down on me as if it's better than me. Ha! As if."

"First of all, the people here are not shinigamis. Second-... Yeah, I think the sun holds a higher position than you."

"PEASANT! Ra, whatever happened to the separation of classes!"

"Whoa, wait, hold on. Weren't pharaohs considered the son of the sun? Like, a god themselves? Aren't you kind of offending you or your... head... god?"

"How dare you mock me! As if that abomination in the sky could ever by my father or me!"

"Oh, you know..."

I. Am. So. Confused. Right. Now. "Could we just find the apartment? You rented one, right, Amelia?"

"Of course I did. Do you mistake me for an idiot?" Amelia refers to King in a pointed manner.

"No, no, not really..." I've had to deal with them arguing for the entire trip here. I don't think her an idiot, but definitely not entirely reasonable... in the least.

King stretches, his hands up in the air. "Apartment?"

This one, however, I do think an idiot.

Amelia looks at him blankly. "Apartment, noun: a suite of rooms forming one residence, typically in a building containing a number of these; a large building containing such suits, an apartment building. In short, a very small house in a building full of other such houses."

"Wow, did you read the dictionary for fun?"

"That was actually the courtesy of an app."

"That didn't make it any better."

He's right at that, but I'd rather not get involved in this. "You know what? How about you just give me the key, and you can school King all you want on modern day life. Yes? No?"

"Sounds fine to me." Amelia hands me the key and turns to King. "So, in apartments-"

"Nooooo! Lizzy, why are you so cruel!" King goes to tackle me.

Please, no, not when I just got out of this! I sprint off to the section of the city near us that looks like it's full of living quarters.

~Like a five minute break later~

Again, sun, why so pain-inflicting?

I had stopped in what seemed an alley between apartments (don't ask me how that happens, city's in the name of this place for a reason), sweat making my shirt cling to me. Ugh, I feel so filthy...

Anyway, I realized that I forgot to ask Amelia what section and number our apartment was... oops. So up until the moment I had been wandering around, trying to find people.

Okay, here's the problem: Death city, right? Like, almost a headquarters for all those people who kill those kishin and witch things, right?

Practically deserted.

I don't know how that happens! Like, is everyone on vacation or something? Or hermits, or what?

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, LOOKS LIKE WE GOT A NEWBIE!"

"Oh, dear..."

"Tsubaki, watch me beat 'em up!"

"Isn't that rash? He hasn't done anything."

"HAHAHAHAHA, ANYONE WHO THINKS THEY CAN WALTZ INTO MY TERRITORY DESERVES TO GET BEAT!"

Oh. Look. Civilization. And it wants to beat me up. That's nice. WHO THE HELL DOES THIS KID THINK HE IS!? Wait, no, he's about my age... "Um, sorry? I got lost-"

"BULL CRAP!"

Excuse me? Girl with the boobs and sad eyes- Tsubaki or whatever- do something!

"Black Star, are you bullying again?"

"Ah, just leave him be, Maka."

Great, who's this crazy couple? First, a crazy muscular guy with blue hair and the bystander woman, now a pig-tailed girl and albino? A random thought flies through my head: they're all going to assault me and leave me lying in the sun so I can burn after I die. Wow, I can't believe I seriously just thought that. I also can't believe I want Amelia's and King's company at the moment, too.

Blondie turns to me and smiles. Beware the smiles. "Hi, I'm Maka, and this is Soul, Tsubaki, and Black Star," she gestures to them when she mentions their names. "You said you were lost? Where were you trying to go?"

Oh, great, she's being nice to me- why am I being so hysterical right now!? Unfortunately, my voice obviously does not have the ability to show how freaked out I am at the moment. "Well, I actually am now renting an apartment here with some friends, we've all just come to the city. I went ahead to find the apartment, but I don't know where it is..."

Soul blinks. "Oh, Maka, you think they're the ones who the managers were saying were moving in the other day?"

"Oh, yeah!" Maka smiles again. "How great! You and your friends are actually in the same building as us!"

We are? Hallelujah, I know for certain I'm living near one of the crazy people. "Y-yeah, how great..."

"Lizzyyyy~ I've found you!"

I turn in time to see a human blur crash into me, knocking me down to the ground. My aching stomach unwillingly gives me the ability to wheeze out "K-... King..."

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, SO YOUR NAME IS LIZZY? HAHAHAHAHA YOU GOT STUCK WITH A GIRL'S NAME!"

King gets off me and glares at Black Star. "What did you just say?"

"HE HAS A GIRL NAME! THAT MAKES HIM A GIRL!"

King walks over to Black Star. "Take it back."

Black Star stares at King blankly. "Huh?"

"I said to take it back. Lizzy is not a girl."

I'm not sure what just happened, but it didn't help King's case by calling me Lizzy again. Sitting up, I groan slightly. "King, it's fine, just back up..."

"No, I refuse to let anyone make fun of the person I love."

A blush comes across my face. He just said that in front of these people we just met... and...

I actually was glad he said that.

Black Star grinned, putting his arms up behind his head. "Are you challenging me?"

"I've lived a life longer than that of a thousand. In other words, you don't intimidate me."

"Heh," Black Star stretched his back. "Finally, I get a fight. Watch me, Tsubaki, I'm gonna be awesome."

King simply continues looking at him. "Whatever."

Sometimes I marvel at how fast King can get himself in trouble.

Sorry for the long break of the update! (Wait, does that even matter? No one reads this #LOLWTFAMIDOING. I hate hashtags.)

ANYWAY, this is what happens when I'm stuck babysitting all by myself with no other family and the kids are asleep. I HAD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO. And this was the product! Actually a longer-than-average chapter... surprising.

To the people who read this: pleeeeeaaaaaaseeeeeeee review! I don't update because I feel like no one reads this, even with the few people who do! I know I'm an amateur, but please! The action part is finally starting!
