The End is just the Beginning

"She's engaged, Ron. That should be me in the picture." Harry snarled as he threw the newspaper on the floor. The front page was dedicated to Ginny and Travis and the announcement for the date of their wedding. In addition to the announcement there was a very cheesy photo of the 'happy' couple with their arms around each other smiling at the camera.

"You broke it off." Ron replied absentmindedly.

"No, she broke it off." Harry said stubbornly as he got off the sofa and grabbed his cloak.
After hearing that Ginny wasn't going to be at the family dinner at the Burrow that evening Harry had agreed to go with Ron. Ron thought this was ridiculous and had been telling him so for the last few days. The fact of the matter was that if Harry wanted to stay a part of the family he was going to have to get used to seeing Ginny and Travis together.

"But you walked out on her." Ron countered, grabbing his cloak too.

"She'd already ended it when I left to go to Swaziland and technically I didn't walk out on her at all." Snapped Harry as he watched Ron tug on his cloak.

Ron looked up at Harry, gave him a dry look and shrugged, "You could have gone back."

"And what, have her just reaffirm that our relationship was over? And besides, she ignored any attempt I made to talk to her." Harry crossed his arms over his chest, he couldn't let this go. It was killing him seeing Ginny with Travis and knowing she really wanted to be with him.

"She wanted you to come back." Ron replied, sympathy showing on his face. He knew how much it was hurting Harry and despite constantly telling Harry to move on he really wished it was Harry in that picture too.

"Yeah, well, she should have said that in all the letters she didn't send me." Harry huffed, completely missing Ron's attempt at compassion.

"You know how difficult it was for her to back off and not reply to your letters?"

"If she wanted to be with me so bad she should have done something about it. She shouldn't have ignored me. Stop making excuses for her." Harry snapped again.

Ron couldn't handle it now and yelled, "She's my sister!"

"I'm your best friend! Who do you care more about?" Harry said jokingly

Ron didn't reply straight away. How could he when Harry was as much a brother too him as Ginny was his sister?
"That's not fair." He said in a solemn voice even though he knew Harry had been joking.

"Fine!" Harry said.

"Fine. She's happy now, moved on. Be happy for her or at least accept it."

"She hasn't moved on." Harry mumbled, now fiddling with his sleeve

"What are you talking about?" questioned Ron, a slightly confused look on his face.

"She's not happy and hasn't moved on."

"I know my sister, Harry, she's happy and has a new life with someone she loves."

"It didn't seem like it when we were in bed together." Harry snorted arrogantly

"Wait! You what?" Ron yelled, now blocking Harry's way as he walked towards their front door.

"You heard me. Come, we're going to be late for dinner." And with that Harry pushed Ron aside, walked outside and apparated to the Burrow.

Over the next week Ginny went to and from practice as usual but with a more sombre look. She was still in shock over her break up with Travis but as she came to realize, wasn't sad about it. That shocked her more.
Sadness would come she thought but as the days went by, nothing changed except maybe the slight feeling of relief she felt.

"Hey." Ginny said calmly as Harry stopped in front of her.

"Hey, haven't seen you in a while." He replied, moving his satchel from one shoulder to the next.

"Of course not. I managed to avoid seeing you for a year and a half, don't think I can't do it again." Ginny replied with a slightly arrogant tone. She'd been outside Harry, Ron and Neville's apartment for a couple hours and was tired.

Harry just rolled his eyes at her, she was so infuriating at times, "Right. Well, Ron is working late so maybe just come back tomorrow or go to the shop."

Ginny cleared her throat and looked down, "I came to see you actually."

"Why?" Harry asked after some hesitation.

"I miss you." She said quietly, her eyes searching Harry's face for any emotion. He was good at hiding it sometimes.

"Okay, this needs to stop!" Harry snapped as he threw his bag on the floor in front of the door, "You're messing with my feelings and I've already been through one heart ache that you caused."

"You're not the only one who was hurt when we broke up." Ginny snapped back, trying and failing to hold back her tears.

"Fine." He sighed and slid down the wall to sit next to her, "What do you want?"

"Travis left me." She said, wiping away her tears.

"Should I be sad for you?" his patience was very thin when the topic was Ginny and Travis.

Ginny just shrugged, how should Harry feel for her?

"Sorry that you're hurting." He replied, he put his hand out to touch her but quickly draw it back.

Pretending she didn't see what Harry did, she huffs in irritation with herself, "I'm not hurting. I don't know. Maybe it just hasn't hit me yet."

"When did he leave?"

"About a week ago. I haven't told anyone." She giggled.

Harry gave her a strange look, this, to him, was not a laughing matter, "And you're telling me because?"

"You know, I was never gonna be truly happy with him for the rest of my life. I mean, I was gonna be happy enough to spend the rest of my life with him but never enough to want to spend the rest of my life with him."
Ginny hesitated a bit before going on, "I wish I had gone back to you and worked it out. I shouldn't have given up just because I was upset and angry and hurting."

"What does this all mean then? For us?" Harry asked quietly

"There is only one person I was made for and want to be with". Ginny told him and after turning to him with a shy smile on her face she said,

"You."

Instead of replying in words, Harry leant in and kissed Ginny passionately, pulling her into his lap so she was almost straddling him. This kiss was as powerful and wonderful as the kiss in the alley way and lasted for several minutes.

"Ginny," Harry said after he caught his breath, "I want this to happen more than anything but I want to work through all the problems we had. Figure out where we went wrong and heal first."

Ginny went quiet for a few minutes and Harry seriously thought she was going to get up and leave. This was difficult for her but she did agree with him. "Friends?"

"Friends." Harry nodded before leaning in and kissing her again until they could barely breathe.

Six months later Ginny was standing in her old bedroom at The Burrow wiping invisible creases out of her dress.

"I still don't understand. Ginny, dear, just one flick of the wand..." Molly said beseechingly.

"No mum! And it's just a silly thing you're getting worked up about. I'm happy with my dress." Ginny replied irritably.

"It's green! Green!" Molly cried, flapping her arms around as she indicated to Ginny's green wedding dress.

"I know mum. I picked it out myself." Ginny replied through gritted teeth.

She turned to her side to check her dress didn't have creases on the back. It was an emerald green, almost the exactly shade of Harry's eyes. A v-neck with ruffles on the top, falling into a flowing skirt that touched the ground.

Molly was not finished and started to plead with Ginny, "But you're supposed to wear white on your wedding."

"MUM! STOP!" Ginny yelled, barely containing her anger, "I am happy with my dress, stop nagging at me."

"I'm not nagging, I'm just..." she huffed.

"HERMIONE!" Ginny screamed

"Yes?" Hermione said as she rushed into the room. She was wearing a short white dress that was a similar style as Ginny's.

"Please remove my mother from the room before I kill her!" Ginny said with forced calm.

Hermione looked horrified whilst Molly looked hurt.

"Ummm, okay." Hermione stammered in a quiet voice. She turned to Molly and said in the most controlled voice she could muster, "Will you come and just help me check everything is ready down stairs. Oh and Victoire seems to have misplaced her flowers again."

"Oh, that girl!" Molly signed as she hurried out, leaving Hermione to deal with Ginny.

"Thank you!" Ginny said, letting her shoulders slump.

Hermione now moved towards the mirror to check her makeup for what must be the eighth time in the last hour, "No problem. You okay?"

"Yeah, mum is just on my case again because I'm getting married in a green dress and not a white one." Ginny smiled, now copying Hermione and checking her own makeup.

"Has she already ranted about your bridesmaids in white?" Hermione asked after she had reapplied her lipstick.

Ginny choked on her laughter, this was just so crazy, "Yes, that was before the green dress."

"She means well." Hermione replied sympathetically.

Ginny gave Hermione a dry look and hurriedly changed the subject, "Where are Victoire's flowers?"

"Fleur has them."

They just smiled at each other. Hermione was the best maid of honour and Ginny felt blessed to have her there.

"How is Harry?"

"He is fine. Now stop asking! He's not the flight risk everyone is worrying about." Hermione teased.

"Oh very funny." Ginny said sarcastically. This has now become an ongoing joke after Harry and Ginny got engaged.

"You nervous?" Hermione inquired after sharing a giggle with Ginny.

"Not at all. This is the one thing in my life that I am 100% sure of." Ginny replied with great confidence.

"Good! Well, you look about done." Hermione smiled as she fiddled with Ginny's dress and straightens the hair clip holding her veil.

Just then Arthur popped his head in the room, "Everyone ready?"

"Yes, it seems so!" Replied Hermione with a nod.

Ginny picked up her bouquet and turned to her father.

"Oh, Ginny! You look absolutely stunning."

"Thanks daddy" She said before taking his hand.

Just as they got to the aisle Ginny stopped Hermione, "Hermione, I just wanted to say thank you. For everything
Hermione smiled as one tear trickled down her cheek. Hermione didn't need Ginny to elaborate, she knew Ginny wasn't just thanking her for all the help she did to make this wedding perfect but also for everything she did during and after all the drama that went on with Travis.

"Let's get you married." She said in a soft, gentle voice.

Ginny nodded, holding back tears of joy and followed Hermione down the aisle where Harry was waiting for her.
