*Peeked from under a rock and waved slowly*
I know, I'm awful. I hadn't updated for a few months and it sucks. I hate myself for doing it to you guys. The thing is, and I'm not just saying it to look for excuses, but life has gotten so busy right now with school. I have tons of tests coming and projects after projects since I'm graduating this year, my private life is kinda a mess and the inspiration just hadn't stuck yet. But I tried, I had planned what's gonna go down in this chapter for so long yet I just hadn't figured out how to write it. I'm pretty sure this chapter won't make it up for you guys since it's not as long as the last chapter was and the whole idea of this chapter is introducing a character that I had wanted to brought it so much, just not finding the right time yet. I have some things figured out for next chapter and am already planning stuff in it but I'm not making any promises. I have a short break, hoping I can use it to write as much as possible but I just don't want to write something for the sake of updating. I hope you all understand.
Oh yeah and the whole Klaroline hook up is super hot and I hate Julie for even thinking that's gonna be the end of them. Caroline finally admitted she has feelings for Klaus and even though Klaus promised to not go back, I'm still positive that they're gonna be end game and I hope you guys are not losing hope. Klaus is pretty occupied with the World War III of Vampires and Witches of New Orleans and I think Caroline has a few things she needs to figure out before the get together.
On a lighter note, if you guys enjoy Vampire Diaries as much as I do, I'd suggest you guys watch the Vampire Academy new movie, it's amazing I've read all the books plus the one from the Bloodlines series. And Zoey Deutch with Russian actor Danila Kozlovsky and the story is bloody brilliant, I hope you guys will take the time to watch it. Do tell me what you think when you do though.
Someone had pointed out that I haven't been responding to reviews and that's one of the things that made you guys not wanting to review. So if that's it, I do apologize. I am trying to answer some of the newer reviews but sometime I just don't want to reveal anything or give any spoilers so I don't really know what to say. I'm sorry if you ever felt like that.
This is a super duper long Author Note and I'm sorry for saying this much and you probably have skipped the whole thing. And I'm not blaming you cause I probably would have done the same thing. If anybody ever wanted to remind me or bug me to update, feel free to drop a PM or ask for my twitter account cause I basically am online all the time and I'm willing to answer any question or suggestion.
Without further or do...
Note: I did some rewriting and changed a couple of things.

A Klaroline Fanfiction
Chapter 10:
She's Coming Back
Caroline stared shocked at Katherine's approaching figure. Red stilettos clicking against the floor, her little black dress hugging every bit of her famous curve. While Elena was a sight to behold, Katherine was a pure goddess. And it showed too, from the lingering stares she got as she walked closer to Caroline.
Growing up, Caroline had been closer to Katherine than Elena. The urge to rule and be the best ran through both girls' mind, making them understand each other better. Even with the friendship they got, Caroline and Katherine still challenged each other every time they could; boy crushes, teacher favorites, most popular in class. Then Katherine grew up, leaving Caroline with her more delicate twin sister.
"Caroline!" she heard the sultry voice of the brunette in question.
"Katherine? What are you doing here? I haven't seen you since I got here," she said with a frown.
It was true; Katherine had boarded the plane just like everybody had at that morning. Then she had disappeared, leaving her twin sister and her friends wondering where Kat was. They had tried calling and texting her, but received no answers.
Katdidn't look the least bit sorry for disappearing on them. She threw her a winning smile, as if nothing was out of place. "For the party, sweetie. Why else?"
"Okay..." She paused, waiting for the other girl to elaborate. When she didn't, Caroline sighed. "No I mean what you're doing here? Where have you been this week?" she gestured to the room around her.
But Kat had walked pass her, obviously wanting Caroline to follow her lead. The brunette went to one of the fending machines, choosing a chocolate bar before inserting a dollar into the machine. "Oh god, I'm so starving you have no idea."
"I guess," Caroline said curiously. "You haven't answered my question, Kat."
Katherine stared at her with a frown, still munching on her chocolate before swallowing. "Um, like I said the party. You weren't there, I came here."
That answer didn't explain anything so Caroline pressed on. "But how did you know we were here?"
"It wasn't easy but it wasn't that hard either. Anyway, are you going to drink that?" Katherine pointed to Klaus' coffee mug.
She was about to tell her it was someone else's but Katherine had drained the mug. "God, that was cold. I went straight from the airport to Tao, you won't even believe how many guys kept following me. It's so disturbing!" The brunette whined as she munched on her chocolate.
"Who would want to stay away from a girl who showed too much and was too busy to care?" she mumbled under her breath, her irritation shot up in an instant.
Katturned to her, shifting her focus from the chocolate. "What was that?"
Caroline faked a smile. "You said you were in Tao before you went here?"
"Yeah, actually. I was," Kat said. "I arrived around three hours ago. Some people said the party just started yet I don't believe him since some people were already too drunk to remember their names. At first I thought Kol would do his move and arrived fashionably late–"
"He wouldn't do that, especially not to his own party."
Kat stopped short. "I didn't know that. I just assumed, you know," she bit down another piece of chocolate. "Anyway, I figured something was wrong after two hours. This guy who was dancing with me was getting annoying anyway so I had more than a reason to bail."
Caroline frowned. "So you just decided to go check out the hospital?"
Katherine shrugged and Caroline instantly knew she was avoiding the question. Why, she didn't know. She stared the brunette down but Kat was immune to Caroline's silent glare which showed how different Kat was to Elena; if she had done that to Elena, the brunette would have opened her mouth and spilled everything Caroline needed to know. It was a miracle that the two girls could be related. They were like day and night, completely different yet completed each other perfectly.
When she noticed Katherine's undivided attention was to her chocolate she sighed. "Let's start with where you were."
Kat didn't even glance at Caroline, focusing herself on the chocolate bar. "Where was I?"
"Yeah, you were supposed to be hanging out with us."
"About that, I lost my phone and had to fly back to New York to take care of some business."
Caroline glanced at the phone that she had seen Katherine's purse and looked at the other girl questioningly. "What's that then?"
"Got a new one, my assistant arranged everything. I have my number back and my business email but all of my text messages are gone."
Caroline rolled her eyes. "You couldn't even alert us?"
"I got a call two hours after we got here. Left right away for the airport," she said nonchalantly. "I found out that my phone was gone three thousand miles above ground, I was going to call you guys when I arrived."
"So why didn't you?"
Kat sent her an exasperated look. "There was too much thing going on, I forgot."
Caroline sighed. She knew Kat took her job seriously so it was normal for her to get caught up when working. She'd let it go for now. "Okay fine. But how did you find out that we're here?"
"I checked out a few place and then I don't know, I thought the only other place I haven't check out are hospitals or the police station. Figured I would be positive and check hospital first," she shrugged. "On the way here, I heard the news and saw the Mikaelsons name."
"Still don't believe you. You know I can tell when you lie to me."
Kat scoffed. "You haven't seen me in a while Care. I could have changed."
For a second, Caroline looked taken aback. That hurt her more than she would admit but it didn't look like the other girl noticed. "Yeah I guess you could have. But people who changed don't say that, they'd try to deny it."
"I forgot that you took Psychology for a year," Kat grumbled. "Alright don't freak out."
She didn't like where this was going but nodded anyway. "I may or may not have tracked Elena's cell phone."
"What?!"
Kat glanced around, sensing everyone had their eyes on them and she was proved right. She shifted uncomfortably under Caroline's scrutiny. "I told you not to freak out. It's not a big deal anyway."
"That's violating the law, Katherine! Are you crazy?"
A passing waitress approached their table with a concern smile. "Is everything okay here?"
Caroline who just noticed everyone's eyes been on them merely smiled and shrugged. "Yeah, she just gave me a few spoilers to our favorite TV series. I know, I'm a maniac." The waitress frowned but Caroline didn't care. She turned to the other customers, vaguely realizing that the cafeteria had gotten more crowded than when she'd entered. "Sorry everyone, everything's alright except for a crazy writer who wrote an awful script for my favorite TV show character."
The other customers gave her weird looks before returning to their conversations and food. She was about to question Katherine more when they both realized the waitress was still standing beside their table, a questioning look on her face.
"Um, can I get three more coffees and some bagels, please?" she asked awkwardly to the waitress who looked at her for a moment, checking her before nodded and walked away.
When the waitress walked away, Caroline turned back and glared at Katherine for a moment. "Did you really track her cell?"
"Yeah..."
"Kat that's just fucked up. Even your parents, as paranoid as they were about Jeremy and his drugs, with you when you went to London, they would never do that. What do you think Elena's gonna say when she found out?"
"Who said that she had to find out?" Kat shrugged.
Caroline sighed. She knew where this was going. It was obvious that Katherine wanted her to keep quiet. The twin's relationship had gotten strained the past few years but Kat had always been protective to her twin sister. Elena, she observed, never put too much thought to her twin except when others asked how her sister was doing, even then her answers would be along the lines of 'I'm sure she's fine' or 'She's a New York girl now, she can take care of herself well'. She didn't know what really went down but this little 'stalking activity' of Katherine would put a bigger damper on their relationship for sure.
She observed her old best friend for a second. While from afar Kat looked like the pretty stuck-up brunette she'd always knew, from a closer view Kat had black circles under her eyes and her skin was a lot paler than the beautiful olive color Caroline was used to. In her confusion and slightly hurt feelings in finding Katherine here without warning, she hadn't realize the changes.
"I know. You can't tell Elena about this, Caroline. You guys have gotten closer and everything but think about it, no harms would be done. She'd never find out and I've tried calling each and everyone's phone but all went straight to voice mail, you'd have to forgive me if I was worried."
"Alright fine, Katherine. I'm not promising on not telling her but for now I can keep quiet, the situation is already so chaotic," she said.
"What do you-"
But Caroline barely heard Katherine question when Klaus came into view, his hand in his suit jacket while the other still clutching the phone. He gave her a small smile before frowning at the girl in front of her.
"Klaus," she said quietly, making Katherine turned to the man behind her.
"Sorry it took so long, the detectives caught up with me, asking where Elijah was."
"Of course," she said with a smile, not knowing how else to answer. "Um, this is-"
But Klaus had moved to Katherine, a slight grin on his face that mirrored the brunette's. "Katherine Pierce, bloody hell."
"Niklaus Mikaelson, it's been too long," Katherine said as she gave him a slight hug.
"Has it? Well I haven't been back in London for quite some time," he frowned before returning her hug. They both sat down next to each other, leaving a bewildered Caroline staring at them curiously. "What about you? Still living with Mason Lockwood?"
Katherine cleared her throat. Caroline didn't know how Klaus knew Katherine but from the way they talked, they clearly did. Caroline knew all about Mason Lockwood who drove Katherine out of London and their messy breakup. That was what led Katherine to go back to Mystic Falls a few months ago after swearing to herself to never go back there. Then she had moved to New York when small town life hadn't been enough again and the rest was history.
Klaus got the hint right away and his eyes seemed apologetic. "Touchy subject? Sorry."
"No, it's fine, I just haven't talked to or about him for a while," Katherine shrugged.
Klaus took a seat between them, dropping his phone on their table. "So was it long after that Gala?"
Katherine scoffed. "Actually the breakup went down right after that Gala."
"I'm so sorry, Katherine. For the record, I think he's in between jobs right now. The company he worked for had to file for bankruptcy."
Katherine just nodded, an evil smile on her face. "That's why I like this year, everything's so fresh and new. Actually Dana and Sarah informed me, it was big in the tabloids for a few days too."
Klaus chuckled. "Yeah I heard from Sarah's new boyfriend, Damien. Said something about fraud and embezzlement, was he involved?"
"I'm not surprise if he did."
"Wait wait, Mason Lockwood works with Tyler right? That's their family business, the company." Caroline said, causing two heads to turn to her direction.
She noticed right then they had momentarily forgot about her presence and she felt a pang on her heart as she looked at Klaus but she refused to look deeper into it. "Tyler works with his uncle? Huh, I never knew that."
"Yeah, Ty introduced me to him a couple of years ago, before you guys started dating. He came to some of the Miss Mystic Falls pageant over the years. Ty said his uncle had a big role in the company too. The reason they invited Mason was for publicity. Tyler's parents are great for the icon but the Town Hall consultant said something about young icons, they decided it's Vicky, Tyler and Mason."
"I didn't know Mason Lockwood came from a small town in Virginia. He said California, hinted something about Los Angeles if not San Francisco," Klaus said bewildered. When the two girls raised their eyebrows at him, he shrugged apologetically. "Hey, no offense but Mason was all big talk and all, I always thought the bloke came from a big city."
"Like the Mikaelsons?" Katherine smirked.
Klaus merely shrugged.
"Well he does come from a rich family. The Lockwoods is one of the richest family in town, one of the founding families for that matter, I heard Tyler's parents came from Miami. They dealt with oil and such," Caroline added.
"Well that's disappointing," he said. Just then, a waiter came with her orders, dropping three black coffee mugs, half a dozen bagels and little creamer sachets. "Anyway I didn't know you two knew each other."
"I haven't been in Mystic Falls for a few months but Kol called and a girl could never pass out an opportunity for a free Vegas trip," Katherine smirked. "He was my partner in crime for a few short weeks so I told myself to make the time. A guy could only turn 25 once."
"Sometimes I forgot to realize he was still so young," Caroline muttered.
"When he's banging different chicks every night, get all that experience and knowledge of various poses for great release, one could assume he's in his forties," Kat said with a sadistic smile.
Klaus chuckled. "You're barely drunk and you talk like that? Wow, I'm impressed."
Katherine threw him a cheeky grin before devouring a coffee-flavored bagel. Caroline stared at them a few moments, trying to figure out the best way to get some answers. When she found none, she did the one thing she did best. She blurted it out. "Um, so how did you two know each other?"
Both Katherine and Klaus looked up to each other before they chuckled lightly. "London, love. A few years ago, a party held by one of our mutual friends."
"Yeah, Irina Marchant-Lurdox," she said the name in disdain. "That bitch was so stuck up. I always wonder how she could trap Alfred Lurdox into marriage. It was one hell of a party though and I finally got to know Tatia's new flavor of the month."
Klaus chuckled darkly while Caroline frowned. Katherine knew Tatia too? "I think I was still dating that French photographer back then. Alfred and Irina invited me personally so I couldn't say no. I heard of the name Mikaelson going around town for a few times but I never knew he was dating my cousin. I didn't even know I had ties to Bulgaria until then."
"Bulgaria?" Caroline's frown deepened.
"Oh yeah, I know bizarre." Katherine took a bite of another bagel in which Klaus followed suit, taking a similar piece of bagel he ate a few moments ago, half listening to Katherine story. "And no, Elena won't know about this since Mom only pushed me to go to family gatherings, Saint Elena get to sleep home and enjoy the comfort of her bed. But it's not all bad, I met the Petrovas on one of the first weeks I arrived in London, I think it was a tea party and then I met Tatia for the first time there. Even back then I didn't like the girl, no offense whatsoever, Klaus. But yeah, Klaus and I met atthe party."
"None taken, love," he muttered. "Tatia is a lot to handle sometimes."
"Obviously," Katherine muttered with a big grin. "Anyway, this has been fun and all but if you'd just tell me where Elena and the others are, I'll be on my way."
"Probably at Stefan's room, why?"
"Why would Stefan has a room?"
Caroline paused. "Katherine, Stefan and the others had an accident earlier."
But the brunette didn't seem to have heard her. Katherine's face instantly paled, her face drained off of any emotions. But then Katherine stood up, walking out without a single glance back. Her movement seem robotic made Caroline wondered if she realized what she was doing.
"What's wrong with her?" Klaus asked, following Caroline's sight.
"She has a soft spot for Stefan," was her only answer.
"Oh, that's got to be odd right?" he said and when she merely looked at him, he elaborated. "With him dating Elena and all."
"It's a long story," she sipped her drink, feeling slightly sorry for Katherine. "She dated Stefan first back in high school."
"Very odd indeed," he frowned. Then he suddenly stood up, finishing his coffee and grabbing the last piece of bagel she didn't feel like eating. "It is getting late; why don't we get back to the hotel?"
She looked at him while gathering her purse and throwing her curls into a messy ponytail. "What about your family?"
"My parents have already gone home with Finn and Sage when I brought the detectives to Elijah. I think Bonnie will be staying in Kol's room tonight. Not sure about Elena though."
"Is she allowed to do that? Just stay with him like that?" she asked incredulously.
"I believe so," he shrugged. "There's a lot of think you can do with money."
And with that they were off, Klaus's hand on the small of her back and for that fleeting moment, she felt safe. That her friends were okay, that she was okay.
Thank you for reading this chapter.
Xoxo, Ems.
