Once back at base several moments later, Lin maneuvered Mai to the nearest seat and gently pushed her down into it before seating himself on the edge of the small, beautifully polished cherry wood coffee table across from her. Which was a feat to truly behold given the fact that the man was so damn tall.
Yet he somehow managed to make himself comfortable as he eyed Mai with a calculating expression in his dark gaze as he very calmly said in a soft tone, "I know Mai." And inwardly cringed as the normally kind of timid girl looked at him like she'd like nothing better than to rip his lungs out of his chest while he was still alive enough to really feel it.
However Lin was a courageous man, he would have to be to be in his line of work as well as act as Naru's partner, so naturally Mai's reaction didn't deter him...much.
"I don't know what your talking about." Mai said in a tone that could have sucked all of the warmth out of the air had she been trying a little bit harder.
"I think you do," Lin started to call Mai by her fake name before stopping himself and deciding to attempt to try another tactic. "Kay-chan." He said and nearly fell off of the table when Mai jumped up out of her chair and reared back her fist to take a shot at punching him so quickly that he barely had time to register any of her movements before he found himself deflecting the small fist aimed at his face and simply grabbed her and spun her and pulled her until she wound up sitting in his lap with both of her arms trapped at her sides, thrashing around trying to escape his hold.
Lin tried to calm her, tried to speak to her reasonably but she simply wouldn't listen. It was as if someone or something else's rage was fueling her own. Almost as if- she were possessed?
Could that be the problem? Lin wondered as he looked down at her and tried to access her. Did one of the spirits take possession of her while she was in the bathroom, before I got to her? If so he would need to do something about getting it out of her quickly and hopefully before Naru or any of the others returned from-
Just as he was starting to reach for some of his holy talisman's to use to restrain her so that he could exercise whatever spirit had possibly taken possession of her, the door to the room opened and Takigawa, John, Ayako and Naru were starting to enter when all of them stopped upon noting the scene before them.
Naru entered the room the exact moment that he seemed to recover from his stupor and went straight for Mai- er Kay- oh whatever. Lin thought to himself as he gritted his teeth as Naru grabbed one of Lin's talisman's and slapped one onto Mai's forehead and another on her chest over her heart as he demanded in a furious tone.
"What. Happened?"
"I-I honestly do not know." It wasn't exactly a lie, but he wasn't really sure if he should tell anyone the truth just yet.
At least not before he figured out what Mai was planning to do about the murderous spirit/spirits. After all if she was going to do something about them with her own two hands, he would have to tell Naru and the others and hope that they could stop tragedy from striking yet again.
Until then however, the man decided that he would just have to keep a close eye on Mai himself.
"Hold Mai as still as you can Lin, we need to get that evil spirit out of her." Naru said as he motioned for Tokigawa, John, and Ayako to enter the room so that each of them could help.
Lin tightened his grip on Mai and waited as everyone began to exercise the girl. The whole thing took the better part of fifteen minutes, mostly because the damned spirit began to scream in pain, and by doing so Mai began to exhibit signs of pain and began to scream as well.
Something that didn't sit well with Lin, but he knew that it was necessary. And the moment that the spirit manifested itself outside of Mai's body, Lin felt as if his blood had just turned to ice as the apparition hovered in the middle of the room, just staring at Mai through blood red hate filled eyes before saying.
"This will be your cemetery." And then began to expand like a large humanoid shaped balloon before then bursting. And pattering the room, monitors and everyone and the furniture in a crimson gooy liquid that smelled overwhelmingly like pennies.
And though Lin knew that he hadn't released Mai's slumped over figure, he and the others could see an image of her, naked, in chains, her wide eyes glazed over in a death stare from having her body torn to pieces.
Then just as suddenly- the vision, blood and everything else just disappeared.
Naru and the others looked around the room for a second to see if everything had really had returned to normal while Lin tightened his grasp on Mai. His mind awhirl.
That thing...had threatened Mai. Not just threatened her but shown them all what it was going to do to her. Absently clutching the girl to his chest, he began to run his fingers through her 'hair' in what he hoped was a comforting motion as his boss looked over at him and then looked away as the man thought to himself, This wouldn't do. This simply wouldn't do at all.
It looked more and more as if he would be becoming Mai's permanent shadow until this case was resolved.
