It'd been over a month since the prince and princess arrived on the islands far away from Unova and other lands. Neither had seen nor heard of a sighting about the Pokémon they were looking for. Shaymin was like a ghost; nowhere to be found, but roamed freely. Cheren noticed the princess seemed more distant now, not really paying any attention to him, but the outside world. He felt terrible, promising the young princess that he would find Shaymin soon for her to give to her mother. But nothing had changed since they began their journey.

"T-Touko, we have one more island to look at. It's quite smaller than the others, so it'll be much easier to explore every inch of it. Are you ready to go or do you need to rest?" Cheren asked, sitting on the edge of the bed. Touko kept her back to him, breathing softly. She didn't move, just sank her head deeper into the pillow. She was so stubborn now, it literally pissed him off.

"I understand why you're ignoring me, but that will not solve anything right now! I'm your only hope for saving N, do you understand? Ignoring me for three damn days straight. . . . I've had it Touko; I'll be in town picking food for dinner."

Cheren stood up and walked out of the hotel room, closing the door tightly behind him as he left the building, muttering to himself. He should be happy though—Touko was eating and kept herself clean, but she just lay in bed all night, staying in the same position all day as well . . . it was totally not her personality. Maybe she lost all hope? Cheren stopped, staring at the ground. Touko hating him . . . her only trusted friend in the entire region of Unova. He didn't like that one bit. Looking up, he watched the small marketplace roaming with people, talking and laughing, surrounded by Pokémon running around. Touko knows what will happen to N if we don't get Shaymin in four weeks. She's probably regretting my suggestion of searching for the Pokémon.

"E-excuse me s-sir . . ."

Cheren turned his head to the side. A small boy was looking up at him, tears that were ready to fall glistening in the corners of his eyes. He held a small plush of a Pokémon close to his chest. He sniffed.

"H-have you s-seen my mommy?"

"Oh" was all the prince could say. He bent his knees so he was eye-level to the young child. Cheren gave a small smile, placing a hand on top of the boy's head.

"No, I haven't, but I'll help you look for her. Come get on my shoulders; it'll be easier to spot her from up top."

The boy nodded, smiling back softly as he walked behind Cheren, climbing on top of his shoulders. Standing up, holding on to the small legs, Cheren began walking around. Great, he was trying to find a little brat's mother in the middle of a market, while the islands were infested with a few hundred people. What fun he got himself into.

"What does your mom look like?" Cheren asked.

"She h-has short black h-hair and brown eyes. . . . Today she wore a p-pretty dress."

"What else?"

"Hmm, she works where w-we raise Pokémon! My m-mom is really good at l-loving them," the boy said as Cheren's eyes wandered up to stare at him. A Pokémon Breeder? Pokémon Caretaker? He knew for sure that he saw a daycare somewhere near the shore of the island. Taking a left, Cheren walked away from the town. The boy placed his arms on top of the prince's head, humming lightly.

"What's your name?" Cheren asked.

"M-my name is John . . . y-you?" John questioned shyly. Cheren smiled ever so slightly. He knew what the boy was going to say about his name.

"My name is Cheren."

"Isn't that a girl's name?" John asked, giggling. He knew it; the boy was going to ask that.

"Well, I was supposed to be a girl, but it turns out I came out a boy. My mother didn't want to change it so I've been stuck with a 'girly' name. Does that explain everything well, John?"

Giving a sound of agreement, the boy placed the plushy in front of Cheren's face.

"'Ello, my name is Shy!" the boy said in a squeaky voice. Shaking the plush side by side, as if dancing, John brought it back to his own face. He was giggling, making the Pokémon talk to Cheren. It was a Shaymin plush. Maybe his mother has seen one before? Or it could be some random toy his mother bought him. Cheren followed a dirt path, fire lighting their way as they continued on the other side of the island.

"Has your mom ever taken care of a Shaymin before?"

"Yup! We take care of them all the time when there's a bad storm! But what's even cooler is hearing a big, strong, and powerful Pokémon call out in the night! It scares me, but Mama always tells me it's Lugia protecting the Pokémon on these islands. One day, when I grow up, I wanna see him for myself!" John cheered, throwing his arms in the air. Cheren nodded his head, a small smile on his lips. Shaymin came in all the time? That was a perfect chance to catch one and show Touko. But hearing about Lugia made him even more curious. It was the Legendary Pokémon he had read about in so many books about the past. Cheren was glad he brought his pad and pencil.

"That sounds really cool! What does your mom do with the Pokémon?"

"She bathes them, feeds them, and gives them lots of love! But what I don't understand is when she places two together and tells me to leave. Do you know why, Cher?" John questioned, leaning to the side so he could look at Cheren. The prince was blushing uncontrollably and he gave a quick cough. How the hell am I going to explain this without actually telling him that his mother breeds Pokémon? But if people found out I told this young boy how Pokémon breed, and he gets it back to his mother . . .that won't slide so well.

"W-well, your mother puts two together to see if they like each other. So if they do, they get to live together and protect each other. Do you understand, John?"

The boy gave a hum before nodding his head, giggling as he made his Shaymin plush talk about the situation. Cheren gave a long, relieved sigh. Jeez, giving "the talk" to a five-year-old was scary. He was glad he would never fall in love and have a child of his own. The prince quickly took that back. He would have to marry, for the throne would be empty, and the kingdom would eventually fall under different leadership. His father's kingdom would not fall; he promised his father.

They walked for another fifteen minutes, the Pokémon around them going back to their homes as the sun lay on the horizon. Finally, Cheren had reached the daycare and walked in with the sleeping boy on his shoulders. He felt the plush slap against his face; the boy's hands lazily drooped over his head. Cheren stepped inside, walking toward the counter. A young man was sitting behind it, typing away.

"Um, excuse me, but do you know this boy's mother? He was lost and told me his mother works here," Cheren explained. The man looked up and stood quickly.

"Oh, you're in luck! She came in here asking if John came back! His mother is down that hallway, last door to the right. She isn't busy, so walk right in!" He smiled, thanking Cheren as he walked away into the hall. Small windows were placed on the sides, so he peeked in each one carefully. Different Pokémon slept inside them, some getting brushed or playing. Cheren opened the door, walking in to find the mother asleep at her desk. An egg was on the desk, held inside a container with a light shining to keep it warm. Gently placing the boy down on the chair, Cheren adjusted his white shirt. He shook the mother awake.

"I found your boy, ma'am."

She darted up instantly, her eyes wandering around before she saw the sleeping child. As she pressed her hands against her mouth, the tears began flowing. She reached out and suddenly was hugging Cheren tightly; he instantly froze.

"Oh, thank you! Thank you so much! I was worried sick when he wandered off! I searched and searched for him, but when I couldn't find him I was hoping someone was helping him back. Thank you so much sir, I don't know how to thank you!" she cried softly, gripping onto his shirt. Placing a hand on the mother's head, Cheren gently stroked her soft hair.

"I'm just glad I was able to help him back home," he said slowly, blushing for the second time that day. It was odd having a girl hug him in such a way. She looked up at him, her tears stopping.

"I must give you something! I can't just let you walk out empty-handed." She backed out of his grip. "Here, how about you take this egg. I know it doesn't look like much, but inside it is a rare Pokémon called Shaymin. A lot of people are trying to get their hands on it to sell the poor thing. All they care about here is money."

Grabbing the cylinder case, she placed it in Cheren's hand. He looked at it, slightly surprised. He and Touko had been searching for Shaymin for over a month, and now it was held in his hands. Clutching it carefully in his grip, Cheren turned to the female.

"T-thank you, um . . ."

"Just call me Suzuki. You, sir?"

Cheren gave a small chuckle, scratching the back of his head shyly. Placing his hand back on the egg, he smiled kindly.

"Simply a person who cares about others' safety. Do you mind if I use your phone?" Cheren asked. She pointed at her desk. Dialing the room's number, he waited for Touko to pick up the phone. He wanted to tell her the good news instantly, to take her out of the misery she had been garnering the last few days. The line clicked and Touko's voice came over the speaker, questioning who was calling.

"Touko, it's me Cheren—look, I just wanted to tell you I'll be arriving tomorrow morning. I got caught up in a little trouble and I'll be spending the night somewhere. Don't worry, and don't do anything stupid, silly girl," he said, abruptly hanging up the phone before she could speak. Touko probably wouldn't speak anyways since it was him. She was mad at him. He looked at Suzuki.

"I thank you so much for gifting me with this Pokémon, but I need to leave for the night. Here, this is my number; I would like to stay in touch with you if you don't mind." He handed her a small slip with his number on it before leaving.

He walked outside, digging into his pocket to check the time on his cell phone. Being a prince, he wasn't supposed to have a portable phone, but he just bought it to stay in touch with Touya, who also secretly bought one. It was always good calling his friend, checking up upon N's condition and what the twins' mother was doing at that time. The only one who knew his number besides Touya and now Suzuki was Touko, which was why Cheren had used the daycare's phone instead of his own; Touko, being in her funk, wouldn't have picked up if she had realized Cheren was calling. Placing the phone back in his pocket, he walked away from the building and into the wilderness of the island. Cheren held the egg close, careful to not let it tilt inside its case. Reaching a tree, he climbed on a low-bowing branch, encountering a perfect view of the small, sandy shore. The moon was nice and full, bright and absolutely beautiful in every way. He sat down, placing the egg between his legs before he relaxed.

"Well, since there is a small storm brewing, maybe I might see Lugia appear . . . just maybe," he whispered to himself. Thinking about the day, he felt his face warm up slightly. Suzuki hugged him. It was odd, because people whom he did not know usually bowed to him, but she didn't know he was a prince—a prince from the Unova Region, at that.

"Saaam!"

"Samurott, I get it, I get it . . . just five more minutes," Touko mumbled, throwing the covers over her head. The water-type Pokémon shook his head quickly, grabbing the sheets in his mouth as he pulled. The princess firmly gripped the blanket, letting a frustrated growl out. Samurott let go of the sheets, walking to the other side of the bed quietly. Nose tucked under the bed, he thrust his head up so Touko fell off the tilted bed. A loud thud was heard and Samurott gave a snort of amusement. Curious, the Pokémon walked back, seeing Touko sitting up with an irritated look.

"Since when did you care if I got up so early? I'm not even at the castle, so can I sleep in, please?"

Samurott shook his head, pointing his nose at the clock on the wall. She looked as well. 8:30. Exactly. With a sigh, Touko began cleaning herself up for the day, jumping in a hot shower, washing off slowly. Her eyes kept wandering to the doorway, watching Samurott lay between the bathroom door and the other room. Touko laughed before wrapping herself in a towel.

"Mr. Lazy, do you think you can pick me some clothes?" she asked. The Pokémon lifted his head, looking at her.

"Sam! Sam Samurott!"

Standing up, he walked toward her bag, shuffling through it with his moist snout. Touko peeked from the bathroom. Cheren still wasn't back. Maybe he was flirting with girls down by the market, saying he was simply "asking questions." Tsk, as if. He was like a pervert; he just kept it hidden away from other people. What were they called? Closet perverts? Yeah, that explained a lot about him in some ways.

"Saam."

"Thank you Samurott, now go do something useful," Touko teased, dressing into the simple clothing. Giving a snort, the water-type sat close to the bed, looking around slowly. Walking into the bathroom, the princess looked at herself. Her hair was sprawled on her back, and she wore a white shirt that's sleeves stopped just by the elbows, and jeans that barely touched her heels. It was simple, but it was still odd wearing pants. Looking at the time, she frowned. Cheren still wasn't here. What the hell was he doing? Returning Samurott to his Poké Ball, she decided to go outside to the market. Maybe it'd keep her mind off of the nerd for a while. He was seriously pissing her off, not trying with his all might to find Shaymin. If it was the last week to find a Shaymin, Touko would ride Reshiram back home—leaving Cheren behind—and take N away. She would hide with him, travel far and wide exploring unknown islands and other regions, and discover different Pokémon around the world.

N was her world. Without him, she wouldn't know what to do in life.

Touko bit her lip. She could feel tears wanting to fall. Pressing her head against the cold door of the hotel, she breathed out slowly. This was no time to be emotional. Crying wouldn't lead anywhere. Bag in hand, Touko walked out of her room, then out of the building and into the slightly busy walkway. People brushed past, talking to each other about the morning, work, and other things. The princess went to the little market in the center of the town, its stands packed full of all kinds of goods. Touko took her time looking at all of it, finally buying different foods for dinner and some little souvenirs Cheren would surely like. She stopped at one stand, looking down at the object on its surface. It was like a bracelet, but something rather large was fastened on it.

"Ah, your eye caught something extremely rare, young lady! There are only two in the entire world!" the salesman said, pointing at it.

"What is it, exactly?" Touko questioned, looking at him. He rubbed his chin for a moment.

"Hmm, well, since I never got my hands on a stone that goes along with it, I'm not sure exactly what it does, but it changes Pokémon for a few moments into a stronger and different version of itself, like a last and final evolution you could only bring out with this. It's quite fascinating, isn't it? No one has bought this for quite a while, so I'll give you half price, if you have—"

"Here—I'll take it."

The princess held a wad of money before the man. He stared, astonished. He handed her the bracelet; Touko gave him the money before walking away toward the hotel. She stared at the bracelet, ignoring the people around her. Something that brought out a Pokémon's strength . . . Cheren would definitely like this! Walking inside the hotel, Touko opened the door to find Cheren inside the room, sitting on the edge of the bed. He looked up.

"Touko . . . where were you? I came back and you were gone." His eyes traveled toward her bags. "Oh, never mind, shopping I guess. Look what I have, Touko—it'll shock you."

He stood up; Touko closed the door to walk into the small kitchen. On the table stood a cylinder vase-like protector, an egg sitting inside. Touko half-smiled, looking at Cheren.

"An egg? What's so special about it?"

Cheren stared at her, smiling before simply saying, "It's a Shaymin egg."

Touko wanted to scream out with joy. Hugging Cheren tightly, the princess simply laughed.

"We can free N! We can go home and Mom will free him! We can be together! Will we go home tonight, Cheren? Will we?" Touko questioned eagerly. Cheren ran his hand through her hair, chuckling.

"Well, sadly we cannot go home. Remember, it needs to be a Shaymin, not an egg of Shaymin. It needs to hatch before we go home. Also, Princess Touko, you surely need to go back to studying on being an actual princess; your sentences are quite dull," Cheren teased, sticking his tongue out. Touko pulled away, punching his shoulder with a huff.

"Be quiet, nerd! Like you haven't become dull yourself?" she questioned. Rolling his eyes, he sat down, placing his fresh coffee on the table. Touko began cooking, ignoring him as he continued his snide remarks. Cheren couldn't help but smile at her. Touko was herself again, talkative and simply her. Sipping his coffee, he stared at the egg. Suzuki did say it would hatch soon; all it needed was love and patience.

"Touko, what will you do when we return?"

The princess looked at him. "Obviously spend time with N; I haven't seen him in over a month, do you know how crazy that is? To not see someone you love in such a long time, thinking what he's doing without me, what he's thinking as well. I want to catch up with N when we return. Why, do you have something in mind?"

Cheren pressed the rim of the cup to his lips. "No, I was just curious is all."

Touko went back to finishing cooking, the kitchen becoming silent once more. To spend time with the one you love. Who would he see when he returned? An empty castle with only guards and maids around, taking care of his father's throne while he was gone for who knows how long again. Cheren would just be back in the library, making the day pass by slowly so night would show up. He would have his Pokémon around, take care of them, train them, and do princely things all over again. Then the day would start again, repeating over and over, the days passing by slowly.

"All right, dinner is done. Get your own plate please; I don't want to feel like a maid," Touko said, sitting down on the other chair. Cheren looked at her, sighing with a small smile.

"My, and I'm your maid then? I've been taking care of you ever since we left—maybe I should be wearing a maid outfit and going around cleaning this hotel room."

Touko laughed, pointing at him. "You would make an ugly girl! Ew, don't give me images . . . that burns my eyes just thinking about it! Cheren, don't laugh! Are you a cross dresser now?"

"Absolutely not; I just wanted to cheer you up is all," he hummed. He grabbed his plate, sitting down as he continued. "It's nice to see the princess smile, don't you agree?"

"Well, you are a creepy moron . . . with weird fetishes," Touko muttered, stuffing some food in her mouth. Cheren pointed his fork at her.

"It's not a fetish; it was simply a joke to make you smile. You've been cranky and moody this past week! Be happy, we got a Shaymin egg that'll hatch soon; Suzuki told me so," he explained casually. Touko looked at him. He was talking about that girl again. Maybe he had a crush on her. The princess smirked.

"So, about this Suzuki, did you do something to her to cause you to talk so much about her? Talk about a perv," laughed Touko. Cheren blushed.

"I did absolutely nothing with her! I took her son home, she gave me a Shaymin egg as a gift, we exchanged a few words of goodbye, and that was it! Nothing more, Touko. She's just a commoner—not to mention she has a son already. There would be no way for her to marry in a royal family."

"So you are thinking about it!" Touko exclaimed. Cheren's eyes darted to the side, embarrassed from such commotion.

"N-no . . ."

"She could have adopted him, ya know? That's grown in popularity here on these islands. Most of the people living here are quite young."

"W-why are we talking about th-this?"

"Because you brought her up."

"I did no s-such thing!"

"Cheren, you're blushing and stuttering!"

"Be quiet, that's quite annoying, Princess Touko," Cheren hissed softly. Rolling her eyes, Touko obeyed. They finished dinner, talking about some of the Pokémon on the islands and some of the citizens. Touko never brought up Suzuki, so Cheren was glad for that. Once they cleaned the kitchen, they sat on the bed. Liepard lay beside Cheren, purring as it rubbed its head against his Trainer's stomach. Touko held the Pokémon egg, looking at it.

"It looks small."

"That's because they are."

Giving a huff, she looked up at Cheren. He looked back at her.

"What?"

"You would make a good-looking girl, I guess."

"Why are you still on that topic?!"

The electricity circled the cylinder tube, the glass showcasing the light and power. The Pokémon howled inside, lips curled back in pain. The human pressed a single button, making the electricity disappear. Falling to the bottom, the Pokémon breathed heavily, his eyes closed. Walking toward the cage-like tube, the man looked down slightly, his glasses reflecting the little light in the room. Opening an eye at him, the large fire-type pulled his lips back, growling.

"Will you obey me now, Arcanine?"

The Pokémon stood up quickly, thrusting his body against the glass. He barked with fury, blowing fire as it circled his body for a few moments. The man kicked the glass before swiftly turning back to the control panel. Pressing a different button, he looked up to watch. The top of the tube glowed an icy blue; the Arcanine looked up confusedly. A collar appeared, latching onto his neck tightly. Howling in fury, he thrust his body against the glass again.

"You will obey me, Arcanine, even by force! I got you to in the beginning, now you must fully obey me!"

The color shocked the large Pokémon, causing him to shake his head violently. Before long, his eyes glowed red. He stood still, staring at the human outside the cage. Walking back to the Pokémon, the man stared at him.

"Will you follow my orders precisely now?"

The Pokémon nodded his head, muzzle drawn back. The man laughed, throwing his hands in the air. Victory! Another Pokémon who would follow his command no matter what the case was! Snapping his fingers, several other cylinder cages glowed a pale white, Pokémon standing inside, eyes the same red hue. He stood in the middle of them all, looking at each individually.

"Perfect—now all we need is what that girl bought this morning. I need to let your power fully awaken to take over these islands, then everywhere else! Yes, it will
