Toni's P.O.V.

I was sitting at home, bored out of my mind. It was the weekend, so I didn't have work and I didn't have school. There was nothing in my house to distract me from my boredom and I had too much energy pent up inside of me to just lay around the house all day. I contemplated drawing, but I had no inspiration; there was nothing I really wanted to draw or express. After laying upside down on my bed for quite some time, I got the bright idea to call Jacob and see what he was up to.

I hadn't spoken to Jacob since my dad and his dad, Billy, went on a big fishing trip during the summer; all four of us spent the weekend up at some cabin. My dad had insisted I go because he wanted me to spend some time away from Edward and his family and spend some time with him. I guess, in truth, I did spend a lot of my time with Edward and the Cullen's, but in my defense, I wanted to try to strengthen my relationship with Edward. Besides, I didn't have many friends besides the Cullen's, at the time, so it had become a usual thing to see me around their house.

Anyway, I got up from bed and raced down the stairs to call Jacob. I slid into the kitchen, courtesy of my fuzzy socks, and plucked the phone from its receiver. I dialed his house number and waited while it rang.

"Black residence," a young, male voice said.

"Hey, Jake! It's Toni," I said.

"Oh, hey, Toni. What's up?"

"Are you doing anything today? I'm kinda bored," I told him.

"Well, I was gonna hang with Quil today."

"Oh. That's okay, then," I said dejectedly.

"You can hang with us if you want. Quil won't mind and I'm sure it'll make him feel better with three of us there again," he reassured me.

"Three of us again?" I asked confused.

"I'll explain later."

"Okay. What time were you guys planning on hanging out?"

"In a few hours, but you can come up now, if you want."

"Sure. I'll be there in about half an hour," I said, raising the end of my sentence to ask him if that was alright.

"Sounds good. See you later."

"See ya," I said before I hung up the phone. I bolted up the stairs to change my outfit into something more appropriate and made sure I had my wallet, my phone, and my car keys before I went back downstairs. I grabbed the small notepad on the kitchen table and scribbled out a note for my dad so he didn't freak out when he came home. After I was satisfied with the message, I signed my name and left the house.

Driving to La Push was always fun for me, for some reason. The scenery and the trees surrounding my car as I drove down the long, winding roads really made me feel calm and collected. Normally, there weren't many cars on the road, either, so it really was peaceful. I looked out at the foliage passing by and smiled to myself as I looked back at the road. Feeling tempted, I looked back at the greenery once more and felt a chill run through my spine. It looked like there was something running parallel to my car. I leaned forward in my seat and tried to get a better look when a deer ran out in front of my car. I immediately stomped on the brakes, causing my form to lurch forward and then back to hit the back of my seat hard.

I looked out of my front windshield, and thankfully, it seemed I didn't hit it. A sigh of relief escaped my mouth as I laid my head on my steering wheel. I stayed in that position for a few seconds as a way to collect myself before I stepped out of the car to make sure I didn't hit the deer. Nothing seemed damaged and everything looked fine.

"Okay, okay," I said as I talked to myself. "Everything is fine. No animal was hurt. No car was hurt. No human was hurt."

I was still a bit shaken up from the almost car accident I was in and I knew I needed to talk to someone to calm myself down. The only time I was allowed to call my dad's personal phone while he was working was when there was an emergency, and while this wasn't that big of a deal to some people, I classified it as such. So, I pulled out my cell phone, dialed his number, and placed the phone up to my ear. The phone rang once before it was snatched out of my hands. I looked around to see who could have taken it and was met with a pair of red eyes. The vampire was taller than me with a muscular form and dark blonde hair that was on the verge of being brown.

He ended the call to my dad and smirked as he threw my phone back to me. He tilted his head and examined me from head to toe. It made me uncomfortable and I unconsciously pulled on my shirt. His smirk grew bigger and he let out a small laugh.

"No human was hurt, you say? I think I can change that," he said threateningly. He stalked up to me and grabbed a lock of hair between his fingers.

"You don't smell good or appetizing. Tell me: why would she want you dead?" he asked me.

"W-who wants me dead?"

I was scared for my life and I didn't want to talk to him, but I felt that if I talked, I'd have a better chance staying alive. Besides, I had no idea who would want me dead and I was curious.

"Wouldn't you like to know," he told me as he stood directly in front of me. His eyes narrowed as he studied my face. I could only imagine what he saw.

"Such a pretty face, too," he said in a pitiful voice. "It's too bad I'll have to kill you."

My breathing hitched as he gripped my arm and held it up to his face. He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. He smiled with all of his teeth showing and pulled my arm up to his mouth. I closed my own eyes and silently begged for my life. When no bite came, I slowly opened my eyes and saw that he was frozen in fear, staring at the forest behind us. Curiously, I looked back, too, and was surprised to see four horse-sized wolves growling and baring their teeth in our direction. I wasn't sure what to be scared of more, the wolves or the vampire.

The vampire dropped my arm and started backing away from me, never taking his eyes off of the wolves. I've never seen a vampire so scared of anything in their life, so it was a shocking sight to see. There was no way these wolves could be Children of the Moon; Edward had already described what they looked like and these weren't them. Besides, he told me Caius destroyed all of them already.

"I guess our time is cut short," the vampire said. "I'll be seeing you soon."

With that, he sped off to escape. The front wolf, a big, black one, made a barking sound, causing the three wolves behind it to rush forward after the vampire. I stood still as the black wolf stayed back and looked at me. It walked towards me as I watched it with wide eyes. It huffed and then pushed me towards my car with its snout. I followed its command with curiosity in my eyes. I visibly jumped when it barked at me and immediately got in my car. I turned the ignition on and watched as the wolf stalked into the forest before I, myself, sped off.
