Brittany woke up the next morning in a cold sweat. She sat up and ran her hands through her hair. The dreams were back, and she was worried. She had missed a few days of pills, with the busy days down at the firehouse. But she knew that wasn't a good excuse. Seeing those.. things wasn't good. She didn't want to be back there again.
Santana had felt her sit up and was awake now. She didn't wanna just turn over and look at her just in case she needed a moment. So she went into a good stretch to let Brittany know that she wasn't asleep anymore.
"Hey." Brittany was putting her hair up now. "You slept good, sleeping beauty? You like to hog blankets, don't you?"
Santana turned and towards Brittany. She was in shock. "I do no such thing!"
"Well last night you did. No wonder Dani was always in a bad mood. You like to push in your sleep too." She started laughing. "Just kidding. But you really did take most of the blanket last night."
"I apologize for that. I was cold. I always forget how damn cold it is over here."
They both got up off of the bed and walked downstairs. Quinn was already making breakfast as usual. Brittany wanted to get her attention and talk to her without letting Santana know what was going on. She didn't need her knowing about her PTSD and visions just yet, she didn't want to scare her away.
But the entire time they were at the house, Santana was attached to her. Which she didn't mind at all. But, she was at the point where she needed some space so she started getting agitated. After they were all done eating, Brittany ran back to her room to take her pills. Which left Santana and Quinn in the kitchen together.
"Fabray?" Quinn looked up from her plate to see Santana playing with her food on her plate. "Did I do something wrong? She seems irritated with me."
"I'm sure it has nothing to do with you, San. Don't worry about it okay?" Quinn got up from the table and put her dishes in the sink. "I'll be right back though, okay?"
Santana nodded, and continued eating her food.
Quinn walked towards Brittany's room and knocked on the door. She slowly opened it, to see Brittany sitting on the bed with her glass of water and two pills in her hand.
"Hey, you okay?" She sat down next to her and took a look at the bottle. "Anti's huh?"
"Yeah. A lot happened at Sill before I left. And I heard her.. I didn't mean for her to think I was irritated with her. I just, I missed a couple days and this morning I woke up in a cold sweat. The dreams are more vivid and that's when I remembered that I had forgotten to take my pills the past few days." She put the pills in her mouth and took a sip of water. "I just, I wanna tell her. But I have a hard time talking about in general and I just don't want to scare her away."
"She's a good listener you know. I had a hard time opening up to her too. But, she might be that pair of ears that help you more than you know. You can tell me anything, anytime. And you know that."
Quinn got up from the bed, and looked back at Brittany. "Just take a breath, and remember, you're home now okay?" She smiled before she walked out of the room.
Brittany hadn't felt at home somewhere for a long time. She hadn't felt so happy like she had been the past few days. Which probably contributed to the fact that she had forgotten to take her pills in the first place. But she couldn't forget. She couldn't take that risk. Not again. She didn't want to go back down that road again. Brittany got up off of the bed to put her pills back in her sock drawer. She took a couple of breaths, and went into her closet to get her clothes for work. They didn't start for another 2 hours, but she liked to have her things laid out and ready. It was something that was burned into her soul, thanks to the Army.
There was another knock on the door, and she knew it was Santana. When she walked in, she took one look at Brittany and stopped at the door.
"I'm sorry, Lopez. I didn't mean for you to think that I was irritated with you. I wasn't. Honest. I just have some things going on right now that I need to deal with." She sat on the bed next to her clothes.
"You don't have to explain yourself. Quinn was pretty much the same exact way when we first started hanging out." Santana shot her a smile. She made her way over to the bed, and sat down. "You're just a little more on edge than she is. You don't have to tell me anything, or tell me what happened. I just.. I want you to know that I'm a really understanding person. And that if there is ever a time you need someone to talk to or hang out with. I'm here. No matter what time of day. I'm always here."
Brittany looked at the brunette sitting next to her, and gently raised her hand and caressed her face. Her heartbeat had slowed, she had calmed down. She smiled, knowing that Santana had something about her. Something that helped her in ways she couldn't explain, couldn't understand.
Santana leaned in, and kissed her. "I hope, that wasn't too forward."
Brittany leaned in again, and they kissed once more. "It wasn't. I just, don't want to rush okay? I just started working with you, and started at the firehouse. I still need a little more time to get adjusted."
"I understand. Don't worry, I won't do anything without permission first."
Brittany stood up and smiled. "Good. Now, get out so I can get ready. That way we can leave a little early so we can get your stuff too."
"Get my stuff? I leave a extra uniform here just in case I sleep over on a night before we go on shift." Santana laughed. "Can you tell I spend a lot of time here? The couch basically has my body print on it."
"Well, now my bed will too." They both smiled. Santana got up and walked towards the door. But before she left, she turned around one last time. "I won't judge you, you know. Just remember that okay?" And with that she walked outside.
Brittany grabbed her phone and opened up a new message to a person under the name Sugar Motta.
Hey. I was thinking about you the other night. Call me when you can, okay? It's... Important.
She pressed send. Not even a minute later, she got a reply.
That's weird. I was doing the same. You okay? Call me whenever you can. I'm free all day.
She dialed the number, and the person on the other line immediately answered.
"I seen it again, Sug. I missed a few days. I took them this morning but, I'm just scared. Santana was with me last night, I just don't want anything to happen you know?"
"Where are you?" The girl sounded like she was opening a bag.
"I'm in Lima." Brittany paused. "I hope you don't think you're coming out here."
"I'll be there on the next flight." And she hung up.
Sugar was her roommate at Fort Sill. They both got out, but remained really close friends. The last time that something like this had happened, Brittany was still in California at the other firehouse, and she woke up holding her partner up against the wall by her neck.
And the last thing she needed, was to do that to Santana.
