What I've Done

-x-

'From the truth,

Of a thousand lies.'

-Linkin Park

"Somebody once said 'I made decisions
that I regret, and
I took them as learning
experiences...
I'm human, not perfect,
like anybody
else.' This quote came from
Queen Latifah. It's telling us that every
one will one day in their life make a regret.
A mistake. But none of us will ever be
perfect. None of us will never have no
flaws
We are never perfect."

-Haley James

Brooke Davis sat in the quad, moments of the previous night replaying in her mind, that specific moment in Karen's Café. They way he told her as though they were the easiest words he'd ever have to speak.

'All he cares about is being able to sleep with Tree Hill's most beautiful girl and he's an ass for that.'

'Most beautiful girl'

'Beautiful'

"Hi Brooke!" Haley's chirpy voice came from across the quad. Brooke looked up, smiling at her best friend. Haley had put her hair in loose curls, she was wearing a loose tank top with jeans.

"Hey Tutor Girl." Brooke replied, happily, her mind was still somewhere else. They way he spoke with such confidence, with no care in the world.

"Where's your mind at, girl?" Haley asked, sitting next to Brooke. "I thought Lucas was the brooder." Brooke sighs, he was usually the brooder, but it wouldn't hurt if she could be broody for a bit.

"He called me beautiful, Haley." Brooke mumbled, "What's that supposed to mean?" He could have been lying, he disliked Chase with passion and would most likely do anything to ruin his relationship. But, maybe he was just being honest.

"That he thinks you beautiful." Haley told the girl. Haley knew that Brooke was beautiful, she'd have so many boys at her feet if she didn't hang around with Nathan and Lucas. Her dimples, her hazel eyes, the way to some people her smile and laugh lights up their world. More specifically, Lucas'.

"Do you think Chase actually said, what Lucas told me?" Brooke asked, she looked at Haley, who's eyes were telling her 'yes'. Brooke knew Chase wasn't the one, but she thought that maybe their relationship could work, they could even be close friends and she wouldn't mind.

"Sorry Brooke." Haley told her, Haley had a strong hate towards Chase. The way he would ignore everyone, just to get Brooke's attention. And that he would sometimes touch Brooke inappropriately.

"It's fine, Haley." Brooke whispered. "I'm going to go find Chase." Brooke said, standing up, she had to break things off now, before they both made a mistake. The words Lucas had spoke hit her, he just wanted to sleep with her. Nothing more. Nothing less.

"Brooke-" Haley was cut off,

"I'm going to dump him, Hales. I can't do it anymore!" She told him, before stalking off. Brooke knew where he was. He was always there. First thing in the morning. She walked along the hallways, until she came up the gym. She opened the door, poking her head into the room. No one was there. She could hear a female giggling and a male voice coming from the shower room though. She slid into the room, closing the door quietly. She quietly walked through the school's private gym, zig-zagging threw the weights and treadmills. Her black shoulder bag, sat on her band t-shirt and jeans. She walked over to the shower room, poking her head around the wall, she could see two brunette's in the shower together. Their lips were locked together, her bare back was against the wall. Brooke's eyes adjusted to the steam filled room, it was Chase and Theresa. "Chase." Brooke spoke, stunned at the brunette. Chase pulled away and turned around, their shower was still running. "I cannot believe you!" She shouted, running out of the room. Chase ran over to his towel, wrapping it around his waist, as he hurried after Brooke.

"Brooke!" He called out, stopping her, he couldn't lose the bet. He would sleep with Brooke Davis, whatever it took him.

"Let go of me!" She shouted at him. He pushed her into the door, her back was against it as he stood infront of him, his body preventing her from moving.

"Shut up." He hissed at her. Brooke looked up at him, her eyes wide. "What you walked in on, was nothing!" He exclaimed, he was lying, she knew that, he knew that. Yeah, he and Theresa had sex, Brooke wasn't giving him any, why not.

"You were making out with her!" Brooke told him, she was sure that there was more than just making out happening in that shower room, but she didn't mention it, she just hoped maybe it wasn't true. Chase gripped her wrist, his knuckles began to turn white. She began to squirm.

"You saw nothing." He hissed again, he would not lose out on five hundred dollars, the chance to take someone's virginity and be known as a stud for doing it.

"We're done, Chase." Brooke told him, she opened the door, yanking her arm from his grasp and took off running down the hallway. She knocked into a girl, as she ran down the hallway. The dirty blonde lost her balance and fell down, her papers flying everywhere. Lucas walked onto the hallway, spotting the girl and decided to help. He began to pick up some of the pieces and passed them over to her.

"Thanks." She told him, smiling. Her pale blue eyes, locked with his cool icy ones. Cute... Were the words that first crossed her mind at the sight of Lucas Scott. Hot... Crossed her mind after, as she got a look at his body frame and generous smile.

"It's nothing." Lucas smiled back at her, "I'm Lucas, Lucas Scott." He held out his hand, she was cute. He thought, not really his type, Brooke was his type.

"Lindsay," She spoke, "Lindsay Strauss."

Brooke continued to run down the halls, tears streaming down her face. She ran up to the car park, before climbing into her car. Peyton and Nathan watched the crying girl climb into her car. They shared a look, before running over to the car and climbing in themselves. Brooke looked over to them.

"What are you two doing?" She asked, wiping her eyes, she couldn't face them right now. Especially not Nathan.

"Well, we came to check on one of our crying friends, to check if she's alright!" Peyton spoke, as she sat in the passenger side.

"I'm fine." Brooke mumbled, she was lying. They knew she was. She knew that they wouldn't buy it, but she wasn't telling them about how naive and stupid she had been about Chase Adams.

"Sure you are." Nathan spoke, sarcastically. Peyton rolled her eyes and sighed, leaning over to where he sat in the back of the car, flicking him in the head.

"What happened, Brooke?" Peyton asked, they were not as close as Brooke and Haley, but over the past few weeks, Peyton had been their for Brooke, whether or not Brooke wanted her.

"Chase...Theresa...Shower...Naked...Kiss." Brooke managed to get out, as she sobbed. Peyton pulled the brunette into a hug, mouthing to Nathan, telling him to leave.

"Calm down, Brooke." Peyton whispered, as she held the sobbing girl, she knew Theresa would try and get back at Brooke in a mean and horrible way, but she had not imagined that of all people, Chase would cheat on her.

"How could he?" She sobbed, Brooke knew why. She would sleep with him, give up her virginity. She just couldn't understand why sex was so important to guys, could they understand that she wanted it to be special.

"He's an ass, Brooke." Peyton told her, "He was never the one." She told Brooke, who nodded, she knew it would never work out, she just hoped it would have lasted longer and maybe evolved into a friendship.

"Why does this always happen to me? Am I repulsive or something? Is all they ever want is to get into my pants. I can't do it, Peyton." She sobbed, hiccuping as she did so.

"Listen, Brook you are strong and won't let anyone break you down." Peyton began. "Hold your chin up high, show him you don't give two shits whether or not he wants you back." Brooke nodded, she was now determined.

"I need to go and prove to him I don't care." Brooke spoke, nodding her head in determination, she would never let any boy put her down and make her feel as though she was not worth it.

"Are you sure?" Peyton asked, Brooke had been through alot since joining Tree Hill, she wasn't sure that this was the smartest idea.

"Positive." Brooke replied. They fixed her make up, before walking back into school. The pair walked to their normal table in the quad to see that Haley, Nathan and Lucas had been joined by someone else.

"Hi guys." Peyton smiled, her tight curls sat just below her shoulders, as she re-adjusted her black leather jacket.

"Hey." They all replied, as the pair sat down, this was the normal. They all sat together, sat, laughed, the couples would kiss why the others would groan about their public affection.

"Brooke, Peyton." Lucas began. "This is Lindsay, Lindsay this is Brooke and Peyton." Lindsay smiled at the two of them.

"Hi." Lindsay spoke, she was new. Everyone could tell. She had pale blue eyes, with long dirty blonde hair. She was slim and tall, a gentle caring look about her. They began to learn more about. Things like her hobbies, where she's from, what she thought of Tree Hill so far. They were all getting along. Accepting the girl.

"Brooke." A male voice came from behind her. "Can I talk to you?" Chase asked, his eyes frantically avoiding the tables eye contact, he was sure that Lucas and Nathan would punch his headlights out or kill him with their glares, if he even looked at them.

"No." Brooke firmly replied, not even looking at him. She ignored him. She wouldn't have it. She dumped him.

"Look, just two-" But Chase was cut off.

"She said back off." Lucas snapped, Brooke looked up at the brooding blonde, a small smile on her face as he stood up for her.

"You don't know nothing, Scott." Chase argued back, the male brunette would not stand down from Lucas if he was going to intervene.

"Lucas actually knows that I don't want to talk to you." Brooke spoke, standing up and walking away, but Chase just followed her. Lindsay was surprised at the scene, that had just occurred, in front of her.

"Tree Hill drama?" She question, looking around at the table, she was only from Georgia, nothing this big and dramatic ever happened at her old school.

"Tree Hill drama." They all replied in unison, Peyton and Haley stood up to follow Brooke, Nathan walked over to his basketball friends, leaving Lindsay with Lucas.

"What was with that guy?" Lindsay asked, as she watched the male brunette stalk off after the smaller female brunette, then the two blondes walking behind them.

"Chase?" She nodded her head. "He's Brooke's boyfriend, or was." He told her, he spoke with words 'Brooke's boyfriend' with such hate, he got a look off of Lindsay of curiosity.

"What's Brooke to you?" Lindsay asked curiously, she knew that as soon as Lucas had stood up for Brooke, that something had happened between them. The way he rushed to defend her. To help her.

"Just a friend. We dated very briefly. But that was it." He told her, she nodded, Of course.. She thought, they had to have dated nothing else to explain why.

"She's seems nice." Lindsay spoke, waiting for a reaction off of Lucas.

"She is." He told her, she smiled.

"Come on, you can walk to me to my next class." She flirted as she stood up, a smile on her face. Lucas smiled, walking with the girl down the hallways.

The bell rang as Brooke ran along the corridors, sliding through the crowds as the determined male brunette followed her. The crowds became less, as she rounded a corner, she slowed down as soon as she could see no one else, but she could still hear his heavy footsteps as he followed her.

"Come on, Brooke!" Chase shouted, as he followed the brunette. He wasn't going to let her get away this easily.

"Go away!" Brooke shouted back, as she walked down the hallways. "What do you not understand!"

"You're not listening!" He shouted, as he ran and grabbed her.

"Get off!" She tried to pull away, but couldn't, his grip on her was tight and strong, a mark would definitely be left on her skin.

"Not until you listen." He snapped, pushing her against the lockers, the hallways had cleared, everyone was in class.

"Leave me alone!" Brooke hissed, trying to move, but Chase had pinned her to the locker.

"Stop struggling and this won't hurt." He told her, as soon as he heard footsteps, his grip loosened, so that it looked as though he was holding her gently.

"Brooke!" Peyton's voice came, as she and Haley jogged over. Chase pulled away, releasing his grip on her wrist.

"You alright?" Haley asked, as they stood by her.

"She's fine." Chase spoke, sternly, not letting her answer. "I better get going." He walked off and Brooke held her wrist.

"What's with him?" Haley asked, looking between the pair.

"They broke up. Jackass cheated on her." Peyton told her, Haley nodded.

"Jimmy wants me to visit him in prison." Brooke then spoke, after the silence that had engulfed them.

"Edwards." Haley breathed, looking at Brooke who nodded.

"What have you said?" Peyton asked, as Chase rounded the corner, away from them.

"Yes." Brooke whispered.

"Brooke, are you sure?" Haley asked, she nodded, Brooke was her bestfriend. She was not sure that by Brooke visiting the person who tried to kill the pair of them, it would affect.

"I need to know why." She told them, her wrist had a red mark around it, but she refused to acknowledge it. "I have to know why."

"I understand, Brooke." Haley spoke, wrapping her arm around the brunette's shoulder. "Just be careful."

"So, Lucas Scott has a secret passion for writing." Lindsay spoke, a smile on her face, as she placed the essay down. Lucas had asked her to proof read it for her, which she did so, willingly.

"It's just an essay." He told her, as they sat in the library during their free period.

"Have you ever thought of taking up writing?" She asked,

"Not really. It's always been about basketball. My heads always in this game. But, it does spend a fair amount of times in books." He admitted,

"Favourite author?" Lindsay asked, she was a book worm, her head never moved from them really. Her dream was to become a book editor.

"Steinback." He told her, feeling as though he could open up and let her know about his geeky ways. Lindsay smiled,

"Who knew a sweaty basketball player could have such good taste. I'm impressed." She giggled, placing her hair onto her shoulder. "What's your story, Lucas Scott?" She asked, he told her everything. His friendship with Haley, his hate and now understanding of his half-brother, his relationship with Peyton and his relationship with Brooke. He felt safe with confining everything in her.

"So, let me get this straight. Brooke and Peyton hated eachother, but now they understand that they have so much in common and have built a pretty strong bond together?" Lindsay spoke, in utter amazement.

"Welcome to Tree Hill." He spoke sarcastically, he looked at the blonde. Before he had realised, he spoke words he wasn't sure he had ever meant to say. "Maybe we can talk about it more over dinner?" The words flew out of his mouth. He didn't want to speak them, but there was no way to stop them.

"That sounds nice, Luke." She smiled, these butterflies flew furiously around in her stomach, as soon as she had focused her eyes on Lucas, she wanted to uncover the real him. What was his big secret? Why was he so closed off? What was really going on between him and Brooke. "Eight o'clock tonight?" She asked, writing her number and address down on a piece of scrap paper.

"Sure." He spoke, he didn't really want this. Lindsay was a very nice person and all, but there was the one person, who really had caught his attention. "I'll see you tonight."

Peyton, Haley and Brooke sat in Peyton's black Comet, the car was gliding down the road, as they drove towards the prison. Brooke was sat in the back, she was looking out of the window. The thought of seeing the boy who had nearly killed, nearly ruined her life and she doesn't even know why. Soon, the car slowed down, turning into an available car parking space.

"You ready, Brooke?" Haley asked, as she looked at her best friend who was sat in her thoughts, looking out of the window. Brooke looked at her best friend, putting a small forced smile on her face, then she sighed.

"As ready as I'll ever be." Brooke climbed out of the car, looking back at her two friends, before walking through the opening the automatic doors and walking over to the desk. She gave her details over, before being escorted down a row of cells, stopping at Jimmy Edwards. He looked up from book.

"Brooke Davis, always a pleasure." He spoke, the sarcasm dripping from his lips. Brooke took a deep breath in, this was harder than she thought. She looked at how he had been given new glasses and was wearing a bright orange jumpsuit. "So, what do I owe the pleasure?" He asked, staring at the brunette.

"Why did you do it?" She spoke up, after three minutes of silence. Her heart was racing, her palms were swearing, she was breathing deeply avoiding his eye contact.

"You still don't know who I am? Why I did this? You still don't know." He asked, pacing his cell room, his eyes wouldn't leave her body, he wouldn't give the freedom. "Jimmy Edwards. Cousin of Michael Evans. The boy who attempted to rape you." He spoke the word 'rape' with such venom, that Brooke was begin to feel uneasy. She looked up at him, their eyes connecting. Brooke began to walk up the hallway, leaving his cell behind. "Of course you would run away!" His shouting become persistent. "Run off you little, Whore." He continued, "Just keep running away from everything!" Brooke ran and ran, until she was out of the prison.

"Brooke?" Haley spoke, as the brunette leaned against the prison wall. Her heart was racing, her mind had thoughts flying through it, her hands were shake and tears stained her face. Haley got out of the car, running over to brunette. "Brooke?" She pulled the girl into a hug, Brooke's sobbing was loud and heavy. Peyton walked over slowly, giving the two girls their space. Brooke looked back at the prison, as though he would be there. Following her.

"He-" She couldn't speak, her sobbing wouldn't let her. Her sobbing wouldn't stop.

"Brooke, just breathe." Peyton spoke, helping Haley, "Let's get you back home, Brooke." Peyton said, as both she and Haley helped the sobbing girl into the car, her body was stiff and her breathing was still very heavy, causing it to be a struggle.

"He knew my ex." Brooke whispered, as she sat in the back of the car, her mind was whirling ideas and thoughts.

Lindsay stood in front of her mirror at home, her bedroom was just like you expected an average teenage girls bedroom to be. The walls were a pale, pastel pink with posters of boy bands occupying them. A white bed sat in the middle of the room, a purple bed set on top of it. Lindsay was stood in front of a floor to ceiling mirror, that was hung up on the wall next to a row of white wooden wardrobes. She wore a purple summer dress, that was halter neck on top and finished just above the knee. She had black high heels on and the top of her body was covered with a denim jacket. Her hair had, had the front part pulled back, whilst the rest of her hair trailed down her back. She smiled, as she applied some lipstick, sticking it into a black handbag.

"Lindsay, someone's at the door for you!" Her mother called up the stairs, Lindsay smiled. She quickly glanced over her dress, adjusting it to make her cleavage look more appealing, before rushing out of the room and walking down stairs.

"Hi Lucas." Lindsay smiled, Lucas gave her a kind smile. He was wearing a blue and white striped shirt, the top button was undone. He wore simple jeans to cover his legs.

"Hi Lindsay." He spoke, he had forced his smile, the offering of his hand meant nothing to him. He just wanted this night over and done with. Lindsay said goodbye to her mum and the pair of them walked down the path to Lucas' truck. They climbed, a general conversation was going the whole time they drove. They arrived at a family restaurant around ten minutes later.

"I'll have a lasagne and chips please." Lindsay ordered, as she passed her menu over to their waitress of the evening. The waitress turned towards Lucas.

"I'll have a cheese burger and chips," Lucas spoke, he looked at Lindsay who was slurping her strawberry milkshake.

"So, tell me why you and Nathan are half-brothers, differen't mom's? Different dad's?" Lindsay asked, she was curious. She wanted to know the Lucas Scott. Learn his story. His life.

"Well, it all happened during my Mum's senior year." Lucas began. "My mom was dating this jackass Dan Scott. This guy who owns the Scott Dealership, here in Tree Hill. She fell pregnant after graduation and he just left her. Left her for Deb Roe, Nathan's mom. My Uncle Keith, who was Dan's brother helped my mom, all throughout her pregnancy to this current day and I'm glad he did. Keith's been a father to me for my whole life. He taught me how to play basketball. He's the reason I love reading. Deb and Dan met at uni and began a relationship. He didn't help my mom out at all, just ignored her. Left her struggling. Then, three months later Deb fell pregnant. Dan did everything. He helped her, was there when Nathan was born. He helped her with her cravings during the pregnancy and everything. When Nathan was born, I was three months old at the time. Mom went to visit her friend at the hospital and bumped into Dan. She was furious with him and Deb heard everything she had to say. Dan proposed to her the same day. Deb said no, told her she'd heard everything and demanded he'd leave. Deb and my mom are still close today, Deb works at my mom's café and soon they'll be sharing the café between them. Dan was allowed to visit Nathan, he pressured him into basketball. He made him hate me. And now, Dan means nothing to all of us." Lucas finished, Lindsay looked at him and smiled.

"Him not being here seems to have made you all stronger, maybe that's a good thing." Lucas smiled at her, the rest of the meal was pleasant and Lucas felt as though a huge weight had been lifted off of his chest. Maybe this dinner wasn't as bad as he thought. They were walking along the roads, Lindsay was beaming a smile. "Thanks for tonight, Lucas." She said, as they reached his car.

"It was great." Lucas smiled, as he opened the passenger side door to let her in, she smile up at him. He closed the door, jogging round to the other side of the car to let himself in. They drove back to her house with another general conversation. Lucas had actually enjoyed himself.

-x-

Brooke, Peyton and Haley all sat upstairs at Brooke's house, waiting for Victoria to return.

"He was Michael's cousin." Brooke sobbed, "He came after me for revenge. His stupid idiotic cousin tried to rape me. He was trying to ruin my life, like I did Michael's." Haley was holding the crying girl. "He tried to kill me!" Brooke muffled into Haley's soldier.

"He didn't and he won't Brooke." Peyton reassured her as the all sat on the double bed. "He's behind bars, so is Michael, your safe. They won't be able to get you any more, you are safe." Brooke pulled away from Haley.

"Your right, I'm safe. They are both behind bars. I'm safe." She repeated the words I'm safe in her mind, multiple times. She needed to feel safe, she wanted to feel safe. "You two should go." Brooke spoke, the pair exchanged looks, before looking back at Brooke.

"We'll wait till your mom's here Brooke." Haley spoke, as she looked at the brunette. Brooke had stiffened her whole body, she wore a determined look on her face, her head tilted up slightly. "Brooke-" But Haley was cut off.

"I'll be fine on my home. My mom will be here soon." She spoke, her voice was full of determination and she put up a front with it too. But inside, she was shaking and scared. "I'll be fine, I promise. Now go." Peyton and Haley heard the sternness in her voice, Haley hugged her, they said their goodbyes and left. As soon as she heard the front door close, she let the tears roll down her cheeks. She held a cushion, squeezing it hard, as she broke down and cried. She was terrified. Confused. She doesn't know how to handle this.

-x-

Lucas walked Lindsay up to the black door,

"Thanks again for this, Lucas. It was really, really nice." She smiled at him, as they stood at her porch. He smiled back, telling her it was no problem. "We should do it again sometime." She added.

"Next time, we should class it as a date." Lucas spoke, he didn't want this but she was sweet and that didn't mean he couldn't fall for her. She smiled at him, leaning up, closer to his mouth.

"I sort of counted this as a date." She whispered, their faces were centimetres apart and Lucas did something he would regret. He closed the gap between them. He felt nothing. It was just a kiss. It didn't mean anything to him. She pulled away, a smile on her face. "Thanks Luke." She whispered breathlessly, before running into her house, a wild smile on her face. Lucas smiled slightly, before walking back to his truck. He decided to go meet his mom at the café, as he walked in to see his mom and his uncle laughing. A real grin appeared on his face. Karen was wiping down the counter, whilst Keith cleaned the tables. Lucas picked up a rag and joined in with the conversation as he cleaned tables on the opposite side of Keith. If you looked in through the shop window, you'd see a very happy. That's what they were.

'Like Walt Disney once said "We keep
moving forward, opening new
doors,
and doing new things, because
we're
curious and curiosity keeps leading
us
down new paths." We all fall back some-
times, but even though we're falling back
we then fall forward. Moving forward to embark
on something new. Whether it's bad or good.'
