Reading Lessons

"…But you guys are writing stuff down right now!" Sokka yelled. They were on the Water Tribe ship and the ninjas were writing things down on scrolls using symbols that Sokka couldn't understand.

"We never said that we were completely illiterate. We just can't read your symbols," Sasuke said not looking up.

"Yagoda was teaching me the basics," Hinata said timidly.

"But what about that time with the Fire Festival, Naruto! You seemed to be able to read," Sokka said.

"Nope! I just knew what the sign was from the general shape," Naruto said scratching the back of his blonde head.

"Why didn't you say anything sooner?" Katara asked.

"I didn't want to look stupid. I get called stupid enough as it is!" Naruto said.

"I'm not even going to comment," Sauske said.

"Enough," Hinata said sick of the bickering, "Please, Katara, would you teach us?"

"Alright, here goes," Katara said sighing.

Two days later,

"Any progress?" Sokka asked Katara.

"Well Hinata was farther ahead than she thought and is trying to help the others but," Katara said before she pointed to the two ninja frozen in place, Hinata was sitting in the middle calmly reading a water bending scroll, "It seems that they only want to attack and insult each other, so I asked Hinata to help give them a time out as part of her waterbending/confidence training."

"Bastard! Why don't you use that fancy eye trick to cheat!" Naruto yelled.

"It doesn't work that way, Dead Last!" Sasuke said, "At the rate you're going, I'm surprised you can even read kanji!"

"Whatever bastard!" Naruto huffed.

'It's a sad state of affairs whenever I agree with emo boy,' Kyubbi commented.

'Stay out of this Fuzzy!'

'How can I when I'm in the middle of this juvenile exchange?' Kyubbi countered. Of course, with the demon being right again Naruto just fumed in silence by verbally and mentally.

One Week Later,

"HAH! Take that Bastard!" Naruto said after he finally managed to catch up to Hinata.

"Hn. If I had the chakra capacity to make that many shadow clones, I'd be able to cheat too," Sauske said.

"Hey! I had to actually learn the Shadow Clone technique instead of cheating and copying it with some fancy eye trick!" Naruto said.

"The only things I've copied with this 'Fancy Eye trick' are test answers, Lee's taijutsu, and Firebending forms," Sasuke said, "And it's not an instant thing, Dead Last. If you'd paid attention when we covered blood limits in class you'd know this."

"Who'd want to learn about your boring eyes! Hinata's eyes are more useful than yours!" Naruto said. Hinata blushed beat red from the compliment.

"Don't drag Hinata into this," Katara warned using water to restrain both, "Since you two can't get along for Ten Minutes, I'm not teaching you to read anymore! Go bug Sokka!"

"Katara!" Sokka yelled, "Don't leave me with them; I can't use magic to keep them in line like you can!"

It Always Goes Back to That...

"So why do you ninjas obsess over those headbands?" Sokka asked Naruto, Sasuke, and Hinata, "And why doesn't she wear hers on her forehead like you two?"

"These aren't just headbands! They show that we're ninja of the Leaf!" Naruto said proudly.

"So that arrow symbol's supposed to be a leaf?" Sokka asked.

"Arrow?" Naruto said, "Huh, I kinda see it."

"You would," Sasuke said despite the fact that he too had to admit their symbol did look similar to an arrow.

"Shut up, Bastard," Nartuo grumbled.

"So what about you?" Sokka asked, "Why not wear it as a headband?"

"I-in my clan there are t-two branches. The main and the branch, my uncovered forehead shows I am part of the main family," Hinata said.

"Oh, so for you it's a status symbol," Sokka said.

"Aang, what do your tattoos mean?" Naruto asked changing the subject.

"Oh them? They're signs of my mastery over airbending. Most monks took until they were almost fifty to get their full tattoos," Aang said, "I got mine by age 11."

"Wow," Naruto said, "So what's up with your hair?"

"Mine?" Sokka asked.

"Yeah, why's it look weird?" Naruto said.

"It's a warrior's hair style!" Sokka yelled.

"Hn, Naruto's right, it looks like you were going for something else and then quit," Sasuke said.

"At least I don't have an unnatural hair color!" Sokka said.

"For the last time, blond hair isn't unnatural!" Naruto yelled, "Why is it you didn't look twice at white hair but you're always complaining about my blonde hair!"

"Because you're the only blonde person I've ever met! Yue's hair was explained by the moon spirit and magic. How do you explain yours?" Sokka said.

"One of my parents was blonde," Naruto said simply.

"Oh," Sokka said.

"You know this how?" Sasuke said.

"What's it matter to you?" Naruto said before he turned in for the night.

"Good Night, Naruto," Hinata said.

For those who might not know a particular half of the crossover very well

Character List:

Naruto Characters-

Konoha

Team 7

Naruto Uzumaki: The night of his birth the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox attacked his home village forcing his Village leader, the Hokage, to seal the beast within Naruto at the cost of his own life. Scorned as a pariah, Naruto became an attention seeking prankster, ignorant of why the older villagers hated him. Anyone who was not able to remember anything at the time of the attack was not to be told on pain of death.

After Naruto's third attempt at graduating from the Shinobi Academy, a traitor told Naruto the horrific truth. After being pronounced a ninja by his favorite teacher, Iruka Umino, Naruto was placed on the same team as Sauske Uchiha, and his crush Sakura Haruno. While taking the exam to advance as ninja a vortex pulled Team 7 (Naruto's team) along with another Konoha Ninja (Hinata Hyuuga) and a Suna Ninja (Gaara of the Desert) into the Avatar world, appearing as bolts of lightning out of the blue, Naruto was found shortly after arrival by Sokka and joined the Avatar and company in their journey while also searching for his friends fining Sasuke first at a deserter camp and Hinata at the Northern Water Tribe.

Skills: sporadic at best with him learning a forbidden technique, the Shadow Clone, in a few hours to struggling with the regular illusionary clone. Evasive skills are shown to be good as he can out run ANBU agents despite wearing kill-me-orange. Fighting, improving. Upon Arrival in the Avatar world, Naruto gains airbending. By use of Shadow Clones to aid in his training Naruto has progressed quickly in his airbending.

Sasuke Uchiha: When he was seven, his older brother slaughtered their whole clan and then used a technique to replay the deaths of Sasuke's parents over and over again traumatizing the child. Sasuke has since vowed vengeance upon Itachi. Revered by the village, the cold prodigy has many natural talents for the ninja arts and no time for anything but vengeance. He seems to tolerate Naruto the most even if their relationship is highly antagonistic. Being the top male ninja in his class he was placed on the same team as Sakura, the top female ninja, and Naruto, the dead last. While taking the Chuunin exam he, along with his teammates, Hinata Hyuuga, and Gaara of the Desert, are pulled into the A:TLA universe. Sasuke lands outside Zhong-Zhong's camp. After using his Sharingan to copy firebending, and being unable to control the fire that came with it, Zhong-Zhong began to train him to control it. Sasuke is 'found' by the GAang when they are brought to Zhong-Zhong by Chey. He joins the group afterwards.

Skills: Midlevel ninja skills, and higher level firebending skills from his own prodigy nature and use of his sharingan.

Sakura Haruno: Graduated top of her Academy class and is Naruto's crush but has a hopeless unrequited fan girl crush on Sasuke Uchiha. Because of how teams are assembled her scores landed her on the same team as her obsession and of her annoyance named Sasuke and Naruto respectively. During the Chuunin exam she and her teammates, along with Hinata Hyuuga and Gaara of the Desert were pulled into a vortex and spat out into the A:TLA universe via bolts of lightning. She landed in Ba Sing Se and escaped being a Joo Dee using her meager ninja skills.

Skills: Very smart but lousy at fighting with excellent chakra control.

Team 8

Hinata Hyuuga: Heiress of the Main Branch of the Hyuuga clan nearly kidnapped as a small child. Hinata lacks the cold demeanor of most Hyuuga. Because she isn't as aggressive as he would like, her father constantly undermines her confidence and trains her younger sister Hanabi instead. Hinata would rather be a healer. Placed on a team specializing in reconnaissance because of her family's blood line ability, Hinata has yet to be coaxed out of her shell. Known to EVERYONE but Naruto, Hinata has a huge crush on him. During the chuunin exam, Hinata is pulled into a vortex along with Team 7 and Gaara of the Desert. She landed in the Northern Water Tribe and was taken in by them and trained as a healer at first until Katara arrived and changed Pakku's mind about training girls. Because of Katara's coaxing and her own chakra control, Hinata was able to progress quickly as a Water Bender.

Skills: Lacking confidence and a killer instinct, Hinata's fighting skills are seemingly mediocre. However, she has her family's fighting style, the Gentle Fist, in her arsenal and it is a nearly mastered style along with the precise chakra control necessary to inflict the damage from the strikes at the pressure points on the body. Along with Gentle Fist, and her array of other ninja skills Hinata is also a proficient Water Bender, her precise chakra control aiding in her quick progression along with hard work and help from Katara. Like
Katara, Hinata can heal with water having been taught to do so by Yagoda, however it is a slightly different healing from Katara's.

Suna

Gaara of the Desert: When Gaara was born his father sacrificed his mother to seal the One-Tailed Raccoon Dog into him to make a weapon for Suna, as his father was the Kazekage. After doing a shoddy job of the sealing it appeared that the plan had backfired and the Kazekage tried to kill his son using his brother in law, the only person to show Gaara any kind of kindness before. The demon within controlled sand, as he had been lashing out and leading to this execution order, and killed the Uncle. Gaara is unstable, an insomniac, and calls Shukaku 'mother.' After his uncle tried to kill him, Gaara decided to love himself because no one else would and used sand to carve the symbol for 'love' onto his forehead. As part of the Sand-Sound Invasion orchestrated by Orouchimaru in disguise as the Kazekage, Gaara was a key piece as a weapon, only to be sucked into a vortex during the Chuunin exams along with four Konoha ninjas. He landed outside of Goaling to be found by a strange hermit. Whether or not the hermit still lives is yet to be determined.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Characters-

Air Nomads

Aang: A master Airbender at a young age, fun loving Aang finds out at age 12 he is the Avatar, something he would have normally been told at age 16 but portents led the monks to rushing this revelation. Overhearing plans to send him away from the closest thing to a father Aang he ever had, Monk Gyatso, Aang runs away with Appa, his flying bison only to get caught into a storm and frozen in an iceberg. This ultimately saves Aang from the genocide the Fire Nation commits against his people but leaves him as the last Air Nomad and Airbender. Found by Katara a hundred years later, Aang has no idea how much time has passed nor what has occurred. He conceals his true identity from Katara and Sokka at first, because he never fully accepted being the Avatar. After accidentally bringing the Fire Nation down upon them Aang surrenders and is later rescued/rescues himself from Zuko's custody. He and the others find Naruto outside Aunt Wu's village and agree to take them into their group and help him find his lost comrades. They succeeded in finding Sasuke at Zhong-Zhong's camp and Hinata at the North Pole. Aang was raised as a monk and consequently doesn't eat meat and is mostly non-violent. However Aang is also still a twelve year old boy and prone to fits of temper. Another thing to note is Aang has a crush on Katara, something she hasn't seemed to notice. Following the siege at the North Aang still hasn't mastered Waterbending.

Skills: Master Airbender and fairly good at weaving as seen in the episode 'The Fortune Teller.' Fairly skilled at Waterbending, is also an accomplished flying bison rider.

Water Tribe (South Pole)

Katara: Youngest child of Chief Hakoda, younger sister of Sokka, and granddaughter of Kana. Katara's mother was taken away from her as a small child by a Fire Nation raid on the South Pole. Katara is one of an exceptional group of her people, she can control the Water Tribe's favored element, water because she can bend the water to her will. Hence she is a waterbender. While fishing with Sokka one day she and her brother stumble across Aang's iceberg in the middle of an argument. Katara realizes that Aang is something special after she frees him from the iceberg. His release let off a large beam of light alerting the exiled Prince Zuko to the Avatar's return. After following Aang onto a beached Fire Navy ship and setting off a flare, the Prince arrives and reveals Aang as the Avatar. With luck, amateur waterbending and the Avatar state the siblings rescue Aang. After this they decided to head north for the pair to learn waterbending from a true waterbending master. After some jealousy Katara gets over Aang's immense talent. She and the others find Naruto outside Aunt Wu's village. Naruto is accepted into the group and they agree to help him find his friends. The GAang finds Sasuke, and Hinata at Zhong-Zhong's camp, and the North Pole respectively. After the siege of the North, Katara is pronounced a master Waterbender and will be Aang's Waterbending Master.

Skills: Domestic skills and Waterbending. At first she is a poor waterbender, but by the end of Book1 is a Waterbending Master.

Sokka: First born of Chief Hakoda, older brother of Katara, and grandson of Kana. The only non-bending member of the GAang, he relies on his skills as a warrior, which as improving along the way, and his keen wits. Being the one who actually found Naruto outside of Aunt Wu's village Sokka is somewhat accepting of Naruto but is annoyed whenever Naruto's friends join in. Hot-headed at times, Sokka can let his mouth get him into trouble, but usually he can get out of it. Sokka was the first to theorize the looking for other instances of strange lightning strikes would lead them to the others and when they found Sasuke at Zhong-Zhong's camp it was verified. Fell head-over-heals in love with Princess Yue and has a crush on Suki of Kyoshi Island.

Skills: Constantly improving hand-to-hand combat skills along with some fishing skills and a keen intellect. Weapon of choice is his trusty boomerang with some skill in using spears, clubs, and metal fans.

Fire Nation

Iroh: Former Crown Prince of the Fire Nation, known as the Dragon of the West, and holds the rank of 'General' in the Fire Nation army. Once a fierce and ruthless warrior for the Fire Nation, he lost his will to fight whenever his only child (a son), Lu Ten, was killed during the infamous Siege of Ba Sing Se. His younger brother Ozai usurped Iroh's birthright soon afterwards. Seemingly a harmless old man, he tries to mentor his hotheaded nephew, accompanying him in exile. Iroh shows more of an awareness of spiritual matters and sees balance is truly needed.

Skills: Master Firebender and expert warrior.

Zuko: Only son of Fire Lord Ozai and Fire Lady Ursa, older brother of Azula. Zuko was banished for refusing to fight his father after he spoke out against a general's plan of senselessly sacrificing troops during a war council. Despite the fact Zuko was right, he still spoke out of turn, and was still punished. Ozai deeming him unworthy for refusing to fight his own father and that suffering would be Zuko's teacher. In order to return to the Fire Nation Fire Lord Ozai set the (impossible) task of capturing the Avatar before Zuko. The exiled prince threw himself into the search to the brink of obsession. Zuko once freed Aang from Zhaou's custody in order to be the one to bring the Avatar in. Has an over developed honor complex.

Skills: Mid-High level Firebender, able to defeat Zhaou in an agni kai and defeated him again in the North Pole. Mastery of dual broadsword wielding and stealth, as shown as the Blue Spirit.

Excerpt Chapter 1 Bolt out of the Blue Book 2: Earth

Chapter 1: After Math

Naruto Universe (Henceforth will be called the Hurricane World)

Konoha,

Fifth Hokage Tsunade Senju was still miffed at how she'd been tricked into this position. Half a year ago, her former instructor, Hiruzen Sarutobi the Third Hokage died in battle taking out her former teammate. Then her final remaining perverted teammate used the money gotten from his pornography's movie deal to pay off her debts which had her in his debt, thus she was now the fifth Hokage. However, that wasn't the least of her problems. Six months ago the heirs to two Konoha clans had vanished during a strange incidence at the Chuunin Exams along with the son of the Fourth Kazekage and Naruto Uzumaki. Konoha's older citizens, much to Tsunade's disgust, threw a festival after the damage from the botched Sand-Sound invasion had been repaired. The new Kazekage, Temari of the Desert, was willing to renegotiate a treaty because Sand had been tricked into the invasion by Orouchimaru posing as the late Fourth Kazekage, whose death didn't seem to be mourned at all.

Officially, the tasteless festival was to celebrate the end of the repairs, but Tsunade knew better. Kakashi Hatake and Jiraiya had been researching the incidence without cease since the cancelation of the exams.

"Any progress?" Tsunade asked as the white haired perverted duo entered the room.

"None so far," Jiraiya reported. Despite the fact Jiraiya and Tsunade were the actually the same age, Tsunade looked far younger; the busty blonde woman looked like she was barely out of her twenties. This was all thanks to a certain purple diamond on her forehead. Jiraiya looked their shared age, though his long hair had always been white. There were signs of age in his marked face. Next to him was the young prodigy known in the bingo books as the Copy Ninja Kakashi Hatake, the only non-Uchiha with a sharingan eye and the son of Konoha's White Fang. His white hair, unlike Jiraiya's fought against gravity shooting upwards, his ninja headband covering his sharingan eye leaving only one brown eye visible. Kakashi was dressed fairly standard for your average jounin, though he was anything but average. Jiraiya on the other hand was dressed in a red sleeveless over robe with a green gi-like shirt, green ninja pants, and wooden sandals with a scroll on his back and a thick metal headband with the kanji for 'sage' on it. Tsunade wore a green robe with a gray kimono top that revealed a little bit of cleavage and blue ninja pants along with sandals. Because they were there on serious business, and a good bit of fear, the perverts were keeping their eyes on the hokage's face and away from her ample assets.

"With so little information on things like this we need to travel to the Land of Fruit and Flowers to search their library," said Jiraiya continuing on.

"Sure and the fact that they have the largest baths in the world never crossed your mind?" Tsunade said in a tone that said, I-wasn't-born-yesterday.

Ame,

Madara Uchiha in his guise as the moron Tobi sat as his unwitting subordinates discussed how to find the lost demon hosts. Though for all his knowledge stemming from his age, even Madara was stumped on what had happened. But he would find out, the Akatsuki had many resources, though he would focus on capturing the other remaining hosts before trying to reclaim the lost pair.

The Village Hidden In Sound,

Still reeling from the loss of Orouchimaru, and licking their wounds from their botched invasion of Konoha, the Oto was a shell of its former self. Only a handful of ninjas remained loyal to the de facto replacement 'Otokage' Kabuto and that was because the glasses wearing silver haired ninja was growing more like their lost leader every day, in more ways than one. And like the late Orouchimaru, Kabuto desired the Sharingan eyes, but for a different reason: Kabuto wanted to study them to benefit Oto.

But first he needed to get more men together and find out what had happened to the 'precious' Uchiha who had disappeared in the Chuunin exams six months before. That was priority for the serpentine ninja.

Four Elements World (AKA A:TLA World) Gaoling, three months previous,

The hermit observed his charge, an unstable ninja who identified himself as Gaara of the Desert. Further prodding revealed he was the youngest son of the Fourth Kazekage. He was not surprised at the Kazekage's plan to use his demon host son as a weapon, but the shoddy sealing done on the one tail made the hermit want to go back to the other world and shake the man.

'If you go back, you'll die, thus her sacrifice would have been in vain,' a little voice in his head said, which always put an end to any thoughts of that nature. His immediate problem was making it so he didn't have to fear the red headed ninja he had taken in over three months ago would try to assassinate him in his sleep or anyone else in Gaoling.
